Lovely food and generous portion.

Such a lovely restaurant in the heart of Colchester! We came here for the wide selection of Chinese and Sichuan food and there were so many delicious options on the menu. We ended up ordering the Dandan Noodles and Beef Noodles for a lighter dinner but will definitely be back to try the Sichuan hot pot. Service was also extremely friendly and the atmosphere was well decorated. Prices were reasonable. Can’t wait to be back!

Very nice owners, they gave a good description of the food as we pre-booked the hotpot, which isn't usually ordered by your normal Brit. Fair price, great food, and had a great time. We have on another occasion had the a la carte menu, which was also good. Thanks.

The best Chinese in town by far! Had my first hot pot here aswell as Dan dan noodles which were both amazing! The staff are so lovely and explained everything regarding the hot pot and kept checking on us too. Even the chef came out to see us a few times and was really lovely 👨‍🍳 will definitely be returning and highly recommend

We visited on the weekend and enjoyed the hotpot with Dan Dan noodles, it was an incredible experience, the food was amazing and the service was possibly the best we've ever experienced in a restaurant. We will be returning here regularly!

We have never had hotpot before, wanted to try it but were a little nervous of looking silly because we didn’t know what we were doing. We should not have worried! The staff patiently explained and gave suggestions.The food was fresh and delicious and it was a really relaxed, sociable and fun way to eat. Highly recommend it for everyone. Give yourself at least an hour and a half to eat, not something you can rush.

An authentic Chinese restaurant, food was excellent and I will definitely be going back. We were able to try various authentic Chinese foods which I'd never had before.

Hot Pot!!! My husband and I love a hot pot and couldn't believe we hadn't realised there was one in Colchester. We had the set meal for 2 with the Tomoato and Milk base. We started with the Beef Dripping and said we would like it hot but wow is this another level 😂 so they were very kind and allowed us to change this to the milk soup which was like an aromatic chicken soup. This set menu is a great option to try the different sides to cook in the soup and they also give you oils and garnishes to add different flavours to your bowls. It really is a must try. After researching foods in China its lovely to see how authentic it is and we cant wait to return and try more. Thank you to the chef who came to say hello and the waiting staff who made our experience so lovely. Overall it cost us about £80 with drinks but you can make it as cheap or expensive as you want so don't let that out you off. In our eyes it was well worth the money. Thank you again x

We had an unplanned visit to Wei’s Kitchen and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food isn’t perfect but still very good, and the price is very reasonable for how much you get. We shared spring rolls, chicken satays, crispy beef and spicy salt and pepper chicken. We also loved our bottle our bottle of wine that was only £20!

Nice and quite authentic at least compared to many other Chinese restaurants! Recommendation: ma la Xiang guo!

Wei's kitchen is the best Chinese food we ever had. Different from other restaurants. It's genuinely authentic chinese taste. Chef is friendly and will cater for your taste spice wise. We would recommend to anyone who is looking for real chinese cuisine.

WOW! It tastes like HOME! Since when I haven't had such brilliant authentic Chinese Cuisine and I have missed the tadte so much, here, I got my tastebugs treated! Absolutely fabulous meal tonight at Wei’s! We are staying 50m away in a little hotel and I walked past last night and thought it looked fun. We booked for tonight, with five of us from three generations and had an absolutely amazing meal. Wonderful crispy duck, lots of lovely mains and amazing service, all with a huge smile. Thanks so much and very highly recommended!

Below average British Chinese takeaway food. Spring rolls looked like they were from an Iceland buffet pack. Chosen because of the reviews, extremely disappointing.

Everything tasted fresh and home-made and was served with a smile. Portions were so generous that we had to take some home (we almost never do this!) to enjoy tomorrow. We ordered a good many dishes and two large drinks totalling less than £80, which we found very reasonable for a city centre restaurant. Additionally, we loved the subtle, authentic decor and the fact that there were so many Chinese guests speaking their language. This really contributed to an authentic family vibe for us. Thank you, Wei's Kitchen, for making a depressing, rainy-windy night in Colchester memorable :) - your salt and pepper Squid is heaven!!!

I have been here for a few times, every meal I was satisfied and enjoyed. The food is the best authentic mainland Chinese food. Before the pandemic, I had such food only when I went back to see my parents, so I call its taste 'the taste of home'. 👍

This is the Chinese food you have been looking for! Meticulously prepared with authentic spices. The best Sichuan food I've had in UK.

Lovely establishment and staff, and very patient as I stared at the menu not knowing what to try! We ended up getting the Sichuan Hot Pot set with a clear stock base and a spicy one. I usually cant handle spice as well as my friend but i found it easy to eat with the hot pot meal. If i find myself in Colchester again I'll definitely revisit. Thank you!

Very good, tasty, authentic Sichuan food - watch out for chillis! They also have a lunch menu with smaller dishes for diners eating alone.

The best Chinese restaurant in Colchester. Very authentic and excellent quality.

Few years ago, when we talk about go for Chinese food, I never bothered because we pretty much end up with Cantonese food. Luckily, Wei’s Kitchen totally transformed my taste bud. If I’m eating out, this would definitely make the shortlist every time. Authentic in flavour, with a range of familiar dishes, not just hot and spicy, it certainly brings a home feeling of being in China. The hot pot upstairs is another highlight, definitely packed with memories of happy catchups and laughters with friends over steaming hot dishes. Great atmosphere and customer service!

Extremely disappointed and will not be ordering again. Lady on the phone is nothing but rude. Called to ask for no veg in our noodles and the lady was extremely rude to my partner. Upon asking if we can add some sauce into our order and pay over the phone the lady was very quick to get me off the phone and say ‘no go through Deliveroo’ Can’t tell me you do not take any orders or payments over the phone? Definitely not a good first impression!

Bland Chinese thought would try being a new restaurant in town for a take away. Will be going back to my regular Chinese takeaway. Good portion sizes but also use plastic containers :(

Tried today, taste at a very average level, ingredients are not fresh, but waitress are nice. When paying the bill by card, you better be sober, the tipping button on the card machine starts from 15% to 30%. Gosh!

Poor food quality and money grabbers.

We ordered monday night, after nine o clock and the food was very quickly cooked and my partner collected it within ten minutes or so. He said they gave him the food and then turned the lights off and shut the shop so clearly it must have been the last meal of the day. The chicken was really chewy texture which put me off and made me actually look few times if it was even cooked through, kung pao was so spicy that we could barely eat it and the rest is still sitting in the fridge.. both meals had tone of spices so all you could taste was lemon grass I believe it was and then crunch on some spices one looked like star anise but tiny and then something like whole peppercorn but not pepper, so that really put me off. wouldnt order again

Absolutely superb gem of a restaurant and fantastic service too! Nothing was too much trouble as changed a starter on their set menu! Highly recommend this place to anyone!

I love spicy foods and hotpot. Wei's kitchen is prefect for me. Traditional Sichuan dishes, the food is awesome, fresh and tasty. The staffs are very friendly and the service is good. The best Chinese restaurant in Colchester. No doubt. 100% recommend👍👍👍

Excellent in every way. Everything from the service to the food was first class. We were greeted and sat comfortably in the nicely presented and authentic restaurant. The waitress explained some of the different styles of cooking to ensure we fully enjoyed our meal. The food was excellent, I just wish I had a bigger tummy! Highly recommend and definitely worth a visit if you like chinese food.

Would 100% recommend Wei's kitchen. Delicious food. Have travelled extensively throughout China (& Szechuan province) and quality here is outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Lovely dinner for 6, we were sat upstairs on the big round table. Food was delicious especially the spicy chicken, pork belly and Wei’s special noodles! Service was efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Great food not so great delivery service. Waited 1.5hrs before we called them and they noted troubles with delivery drivers, this should have been shared to us. Agreed to come and collect, on arrival they questioned why we wanted delivery!? Acknowledging that we needed our food they still served a customer in the restaurant before going to the kitchen to collect. Food needed reheating. Only stopped giving lower rating since a new business and food was good, Advise going via JustEat for delivery, probably hold them to account more.

Our 3rd visit in 2 months (it's that good!) and this time we booked for a hotpot. Like all the food here, it did not disappoint! Truly authentic food made with super fresh ingredients. You won't get food like this anywhere else in town, it's fantastic!

A cosy restuarant but we had a lovely family meal, the lamb cooked with coriander was very tasty. We also enjoyed the fried Raymen noodles, but watch out for the very fiery fried chilli. If you like hot food you will love the menu. Book first to ensure you have a table.

Sichuan food, so watch out for the fried chillis and sichuan peppers but lovely. Staff are very friendly and, if like me, you are not used to the spicyness, order plenty of beer in advance.

Amazing, authentic cuisine. Hands down, the best Chinese in Colchester. The hotpot with beef dripping is a particular favourite, as are their ribs. Atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, and the staff are so friendly and always nice.

It had to be a very famous chicken or cow in our delivered meals if 3 (not fully loaded) plates cost £50. Didn't look like meals on photos, wife's sweet and sour was almost not edible (sensation of eating raw lemon), my chicken in black bean sauce tasted completely differently than the ones eaten before elsewhere and sauce contained more oily fat than flavour. Portions definitely too small for the money. Very average food. Did all other reviewers eat at the same place??? Two stars only cause we ate something and vegetarian spring rolls seemed to be ok. Don't know about eating in but strongly advise to avoid deliveries.

Checked this restaurant out after seeing an article about it in the Colchester Gazette. Excellent food and faultless service. This restaurant deserves to do well and is arguably one of the best chinese restaurants in the area. The range of dishes on offer is very good and if you like Szechuan style food, this place is a must. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. We had a set menu plus some extras. Chili beef especially good! Perfect timing between courses and freshly cooked. The owners chatted with us at the end of the meal. Will definitely return!

I would like to say Wei's Kitchen is the best restaurant in Colchester to provide authentic and traditional Chinese Cuisine. Staffs are very polite and accommodating. I give the five stars as there are only five stars to click. Simply, "try it, you will like it".

Gorgeous meal, ribs were magnificent

Fantastic. We gave up looking for decent Chinese takeaway food in Colchester about two years ago. Inconsistent, undercooked, bland, boring were typical attributes of the food on offer. Occasionally the starters would be good, but the mains invariably fell off a cliff. We spotted newly-opened Wei's Kitchen, and the pictures of the food on the menu were enough for us to think this was worth giving it a go. We are so glad we did - quite honestly this was of the best Chinese meals we have had in many years. We ordered takeaway - Salt & Pepper Chicken wings, Dry Spicy Chicken (La zi ji), Sichuan Chilli Shredded Pork (U xiang rou) and special fried rice. There were hints of spices I did not recognise, and others that many restaurants would not bother with. Flavours were complex and well integrated. This was a meal totally free of any imperfections. One word - fantastic.

I visited Weis Kitchen on Friday with a friend. We both absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived. And the food was absolutely delicious. It is properly authentic Chinese cuisine. We had the aubergine dish which was particularly delicious. Thanks for opening in Colchester!

We had a family dinner once in the first week it opened. The Authentic Chinese cuisine really make me home sick. So we arranged a friend gathering last night for 14 people to try the hot pot upstair. The food is really nice and fresh. The owner is so accommodating, setting up a separate small table for the 3 kids, gave them tasty chicken wings on the house while adult busy chatting almost forgot them. We had such wonderful night and will definitely go again.

Best Chinese food we've had for some years. Very authentic and traditional ingredients and the taste is fantastic. Staffs are very accommodating too, making you feel cosy and welcomed. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's interested in the authentic Szechuan food or Chinese cooking in general.

Really lovely food, we enjoyed homemade pork dumplings and ribs as starters followed by beef in black bean sauce, chicken noodles and egg fried rice, the best Chinese meal we have ever had. They were happy to explain some of the more authentic dishes that we will try at least one new dish each visit.

I fell in love with Sichuan food many years ago while living in China..and from the first bite into my favourite “la zi ji” dish at Wei’s Kitchen, I was back in China again. It continued through the Dan Dan mian, Shui zhu rou, yu xiang rou si and all other dishes we had. It was that good I had goose bumps! You will not find more authentic than this for Sichuan cuisine.
