Have been to Mayflower for over 34+ years. It has never disappointed me. The food is the most authentic and the best Chinese food in Bristol. Possibly the best in the South West! The new shop’s location is great, the decor is lovely. Perfect in every ways!

The restaurant is huge & absolutely stunning! We went for: 🔹Three roasties 🔹Chicken chow mein 🔹Sweet & sour Chicken balls 🔹Salt & chilli ribs 🔹Sizzling canton pork chop 🔹Prawn crackers It was all incredible but the highlight for me had to be the three roasties meat and the chicken chow mein! ❤️

Had a great experience at Mayflower today. The food was very good with authentic Cantonese flavour and a wide variety on the menu. The place looks newly renovated—clean and tidy. It was really full, and we had to share a big round table with others, but I didn’t mind. Definitely worth a visit!

I will never order here again. If you are looking for authentic, don't come here. There are better options like Nice Spice or Fresh Bakery nearby, which I both recommend. If you are looking for UK-style, don't come here. I ordered chicken balls and they gave me chicken nuggets. I should have taken a picture. I ordered crispy shredded beef, and it was not crispy at all, the beef was all clumped together (so not shredded properly). Very disappointing. This place was much better before the location change. Also, the people working there are rude, and were particularly rude to my friend from mainland china.

The first time visiting since the move. The food was really good. Plenty of options as you would expect. But did not feel like the quality was compromised. It was really busy and the staff were litterally running, so hoping they will hire more people as that would help the general atmosphere. But staff were really lovely I must say

I had a fantastic time celebrating at the Mayflower for my birthday. The lovely Ray helped us select the BEST dishes and catered for a very mixed family of varied tastes and food requirements. The crackling pork and roast duck were OF COURSE fantastic but there was so much choice and everything was delicious. They even added special touches to make the evening as special as it was. Thank you to the Mayflower staff. It was a birthday I will never forget.

Overpriced mid food. Service is noticeably bad, rude waiters whom lack decency, very chaotic at times, I waited over an hour for a dish and was supremely dissatisfied when it arrived, I'm sure they missed it but claimed it was cooking time, they called me when I was sat in the restaurant at my table asking me where I was and honestly just go nice spice instead. Was excited to come to the new opening as have always been a lover of this restaurant however was a little disapointed. I wouldnt recommend going here in less that 4 people, the portions are large but quite expensive so if you want to try more than a main and a side, you'll easy spend £80 and have a lot of food. Maybe they could do small / large size options to fix this. There was also a hair in my rice which wasn't comped at the end. The food was overall delicious though, the crispy beef was great and the beef ho fun was good too. Maybe just an off day, would still go back.

The only good thing about this restaurant was probably the atmosphere. The service was just average, with almost no communication from the staff unless we specifically requested something. As for the food, I personally thought it was terrible. We ordered half a roast duck, roast pork belly, dry-fried prawn beancurd rolls, and prawn Cheung Fun. The roast duck and pork belly were served cold. The roast duck tasted okay, but the pork belly was awful—it had an unpleasant "piggy" flavor. The MVP of my four dishes would be the sweet chili sauce I requested from the staff. If you have tasted nice Hong Kong food before, I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place—you'll likely be disappointed.

It's very average. There were only 5 of us, but we were given a large table for 12 people, but there was no one to sit in the 6 seats on the side. And our table only gave tea and gave shrimp slices to foreigners. The reason for asking was that foreigners didn't drink tea, so they gave shrimp slices. So is the tea sold in the store for Chinese people to drink? The dishes are also very not fresh and sour.

Not our first time here we used to visit the old place. 8 of us eagerly visited on 20/03 and excited to see the new place. Due to one of the group being a baby we decided to pre-order our food for a specific time which they kindly did and were very accommodating through gritted teeth. The food is great but the service (like many other reviews) is poor, staff do appear rude ........when you can find one! We felt like it was a game to try and find a server to order a drink and when you did it was like an inconvenience. 3 of us were celebrating our birthday. Which they kindly celebrated with a song. However, this too ended up leaving a sour taste in the mouth. At one point they brought out 3 x custard buns which we said we didn't order. It went back and was brought back out to us (birthday treat apparently). One of our party picked up the bill which I've just reviewed and noticed they added on the custard buns....the audacity to charge us for food we did not order and sold as if it was a gesture from them. Bit shady in my opinion. It's a real shame as the old place was amazing, service, atmosphere and extremely friendly. I hope they don't just rely on the food and manage to provide the same level of service as before with the absence of the shady tactics.

2nd time trying here, 1st bad experience with Crispy Duck. The duck had multiple bones chopped into it. It tasted old. This time, ordering the veg chow mein and BBQ honey pork. Both tasted bad. Very limited on the veg and it was bland. The pork was such low quality it was inedible. Bits of fat like rubber bands, I couldn't chew through it lol. We visited the restaurant recently after it’s reopened and relocated, and the experience was UNPLEASANT. We did not book a table and understood that we might not get one. We got in at 5:35pm and asked for a table, they asked if we had booked and we said no. Then without saying anything to us, they just left us waiting. 10 minutes later we were told we could get a table only if we could finish by 7pm, we were fine with that, so we sat down and started looking at the menu. We were trying to look through the menu as quickly as we could, as there were quite a lot to choose from. While we were still looking, a man who worked there came over to our table and asked if we were ready to order, but we weren’t quite ready. Then this man said to us “you need to be quick we need the table back”, the way he said it was RUDE, no please or thank yous. We finished our food very quickly and was out of the door by 6:35pm. We had visited the restaurant when it was at King Square and then relocated by the coach station and now at its new location. It does not matter whether a restaurant is still in its “soft opening” period, some of the staff are not friendly when the customers have done nothing wrong. This seems like a regular thing at May Flower reading other reviews! After this experience, we will not be going back again. At least there was one helpful waitress who helped us cancel the BURNT plate of vegetables.

Firstly the food was good but this was let down by the extremely poor unfriendly service. The table we booked wasn't ready on arrival, no apologies just told 'not ready' after waiting a while we asked again and were then led to a table. There was a long wait before anyone came over to take a drink and food order. Food took a while to arrive, we do understand it was a busy Friday night. When food arrived it came out one dish at a time meaning that some people had food others didn't or we were waiting for accompanying dishes to come out. Very frustrating when you've already waited. Staff looked like they didn't want to be there, the atmosphere was loud. But the restaurant itself was clean

The food is okay, not bad at all, just a stable and average Cantonese food level. 10 people ordered 11 or 12 dishes. The most impressive ones are the barbecued pork (salty) duck (fatty) and boiled beef. There is nothing special to praise about the others. However, considering the waiting time and the overall service atmosphere (not everyone is unreasonable, some ladies have good attitudes), I do not recommend us to eat there. For example, why do only foreigners have shrimp crackers? Why do we come first and order first, but foreigners are served faster? It was this kind of differential treatment that made the 10 of us very unhappy. We had to wait for about 35-40 minutes, and finally we were so hungry that we started eating our own snacks. Really funny. In the end we didn't want to pay the service charge and said we were required to pay it. So I can only give 2 points sincerely and objectively. Of course, the boss definitely doesn't care about such comments. Looking at the different evaluations of service in Chinese and English, you should also get a feel for the different services here. The summary is that the food is average but not worth it, and the money can be spent on places that are equal or friendly to people. The food was edible, nothing too unpalatable—just decent but standard Cantonese cuisine. Our group of 10 ordered 11-12 dishes. The memorable ones were the char siu (a bit too salty), fatty duck, and Sichuan-style boiled beef. The rest were unremarkable. But considering the wait time and the overall service atmosphere (not all staff were rude—some female servers were polite), I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. For instance, why were only non-Chinese given shrimp crackers? Why did their food arrive faster even though we ordered first? This blatant favoritism made our entire group uncomfortable. We waited 35-40 minutes and ended up snacking on our own food out of hunger—it was almost comical. To top it off, we tried to decline the service charge but were told it was mandatory. Hence, a brutally honest 2/10 rating. The owner probably doesn’t care about reviews like this anyway, but the stark contrast between Chinese and English reviews on service says it all. In short: mediocre food but not worth the price. Save your money for places that treat everyone with equality or basic respect.

We had been eagerly waiting for Mayflower to reopen its doors, and we were so excited to finally visit again! We booked a table for five on a Sunday night, and while there was a short wait of about 12 minutes before we were seated, it was understandable given how busy the restaurant was. Not only was the dining area full, but there was also a steady stream of takeaway customers. It was great to see such a bustling atmosphere, especially after the restaurant had been closed for so long. Despite the high demand, our food arrived surprisingly quickly, and as always, it was absolutely delicious! We left feeling completely satisfied and full. A few small touches could elevate the experience to a perfect 10/10: A bit more sauce with the duck would be great. It would be helpful if the rice or sides were served alongside the mains, as at one point, we had a couple of main dishes but no rice to pair them with. For dessert, the fried bananas would be even better with a scoop of ice cream. Given that our bill totaled £180 for five people, a complimentary dessert would have been a lovely gesture. Many restaurants offer this for larger bills, and it always leaves a great impression. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and are so happy to see Mayflower thriving again. We’ll definitely be back soon!

This took a long time to correct. By the time this dish arrived the rest of the party were almost finished eating and the rice was cold. This dish was also not very warm. Despite being reassured that is was safe to eat everyone knows that dishes should be reheated properly. It's a known fact! When we asked the waitress to deduct the service charge we were met with a look of complete indignation. Fortunately management took over and did deduct the service charge and the price of the dish. Updated review following a new experience at Mayflower. My family have visited several times previously, and after good experiences, we visited tonight for a birthday, for the first time in a while. No one had written down our booking, so they weren't expecting us. They promised to squeeze us in and put us upstairs. It was extremely cold under the air con, but we made do. We had the mixed starter, which was very good. The mains came out slowly, and one of them was incorrect. They did take it back and replace it with what we ordered, but it was cold. Then, you get charged a service fee (this is mentioned on the menu). As we felt the service had been rushed and not very friendly, we asked for this to be removed, which it was. They also refunded us for the cold dish. We were very disappointed after having built a good rapport with some of the staff here previously. Let's hope the change of venue improves the atmosphere in the future.

We called on for a takeaway. The food was very tasty. The staff were friendly and the service quick. We had the Chicken Curry and I can highly recommend rhe Satay Chicken. Chips were lovely and crispy. The restaurant seemed busy when we arrived and the food looked delicious. I would go here again when I return to Bristol.

We went here on 12 April before Sasha and Digweed in Bristol. Amazing find, the best crispy chilli beef ever and the service from the team and overall hospitality was excellent. All the food was delicious including the Duck and a soft singapore noodles. The place looks like nothing from the outside. You wouldn't walk in. A hidden gem. Also love the rotating tables. Will be back!

As always excellent service and the best Chinese food in Bristol. Worth every penny. I do not understand some of the bad reviews this is my forth time here and the staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. Highly recommend.

The food was good, but the service?Terrible!! We ordered a whole duck but only got half, and they didn't even tell us about the switch-up . They tried to charge us for a whole one, so we had to complain. Plus, the service charge was pretty pricey. Also, when we asked for water, they first brought out some pricey bottled water without asking. We had to ask them again for tap water, and then they took back our glasses and only brought one filled glass for the four of us. Definitely not what we expected. Tbh, the service was disappointing and uncomfortable due to the staff's rude manners.

Ask for Ray. We've been here many times. Our most recent visit, when our waiter came for our order, my partner said "What would you recommend?' He asked what we liked, anything we didn't like and took our menus. We had water cooked beef, salt and pepper squid

The food is incredible. We had the set menu for 8 people and added some other dishes to accompany it. Wow! The ribs are amazing and the selection of food was so tasty and fresh. Best crispy chilli beef I think we’ve ever had. Team are lovely and we can’t wait to book again

Food was ok but there was an Edna Mode(but in purple)looking waiter who who was annoyingly rude last night. I would say there are much better options for chinese food than mayflower with its rude staff

Ordered food off Deliveroo and recieved the incorrect order. The woman was very unhelpful and rude. Kept saying it was Deliveroo’s fault even tho the receipt said the correct items. Chicken balls are incredibly chewy and oily.

Worst Chinese I've ever had chicken balls taste like they have been hanging around for days. Tough and inedible you should be ashamed of selling this food

I liked the atmosphere. On the other hand, it's not easy to find and the entrance doesn't make you want to go through it at all. Push the door and it has nothing to do with it.

I don’t understand any of the positive reviews or why the Mayflower is apparently an “award winning” restaurant. Every dish we ordered was poor; lacking flavour and overpriced. The chicken balls were overly greasy, the shredded duck was like the dry sweepings from the floor, the crispy beef was dry, chewy and flavourless, the bbq pork was overcooked. Abysmal, I’ll never order from here again!

We had a takeaway delivered, choosing Mayflower because it is open Sunday lunchtime, first plus point! All the food was tasty, the sweet and sour sauce was much better than most other restaurants we've tried lately. Kids seemed to eat more from Mayflower than they would normally, saying the prawn crackers, prawn toast, chicken balls and crispy sea weed were super yummy! Thank you Mayflower :)

Nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes to get one subway foot long. I called the shop after about an hour and i was told they are just waiting on driver. Had to wait another 90 minutes after this call. Really disappointed with the service. Food wasn’t that great when it arrived which I assume the sandwich was made and just sat waiting to be collected.
