This is probably the best Chinese cuisine, every meal is well balanced and clean tasting. I never was a big fan of Chinese takeaway until I was introduced to mayflower. The crispy beef is supreme. I am shocked that they have a 3.5 rating on trip advisor, they deserve 5 star easy.

End of an era for our extended family eating here for various occasions. Looking forward to dining at new location in the Broadmead.

Couldn't find our booking so we were put upstairs in the cheap seats. The air conditioner was on and it was quite draughty. The sharing starter was very good. Our meals came and one was wrong. This took a long time to correct. By the time this dish arrived the rest of the party were almost finished eating and the rice was cold. This dish was also not very warm. Despite being reassured that is was safe to eat everyone knows that dishes should be reheated properly. It's a known fact! When we asked the waitress to deduct the service charge we were met with a look of complete indignation. Fortunately management took over and did deduct the service charge and the price of the dish. This experience ruined what should have been a lovely birthday surprise. The name Lee might mean something in China but not in the Mayflower. Terrible experience

Updated review following a new experience at Mayflower. My family have visited several times previously, and after good experiences, we visited tonight for a birthday, for the first time in a while. No one had written down our booking, so they weren't expecting us. They promised to squeeze us in and put us upstairs. It was extremely cold under the air con, but we made do. We had the mixed starter, which was very good. The mains came out slowly, and one of them was incorrect. They did take it back and replace it with what we ordered, but it was cold. Then, you get charged a service fee (this is mentioned on the menu). As we felt the service had been rushed and not very friendly, we asked for this to be removed, which it was. They also refunded us for the cold dish. We were very disappointed after having built a good rapport with some of the staff here previously. Let's hope the change of venue improves the atmosphere in the future.

We called on for a takeaway. The food was very tasty. The staff were friendly and the service quick. We had the Chicken Curry and I can highly recommend rhe Satay Chicken. Chips were lovely and crispy. The restaurant seemed busy when we arrived and the food looked delicious. I would go here again when I return to Bristol.

We went here on 12 April before Sasha and Digweed in Bristol. Amazing find, the best crispy chilli beef ever and the service from the team and overall hospitality was excellent. All the food was delicious including the Duck and a soft singapore noodles. The place looks like nothing from the outside. You wouldn't walk in. A hidden gem. Also love the rotating tables. Will be back!

As always excellent service and the best Chinese food in Bristol. Worth every penny. I do not understand some of the bad reviews this is my forth time here and the staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. Highly recommend.

The food was good, but the service?Terrible!! We ordered a whole duck but only got half, and they didn't even tell us about the switch-up . They tried to charge us for a whole one, so we had to complain. Plus, the service charge was pretty pricey.Also, when we asked for water, they first brought out some pricey bottled water without asking. We had to ask them again for tap water, and then they took back our glasses and only brought one filled glass for the four of us. Definitely not what we expected. Tbh, the service was disappointing and uncomfortable due to the staff's rude manners.

Ask for Ray. We've been here many times. Our most recent visit, when our waiter came for our order, my partner said "What would you recommend?' He asked what we liked, anything we didn't like and took our menus. We had water cooked beef, salt and pepper squid

The food is incredible. We had the set menu for 8 people and added some other dishes to accompany it. Wow! The ribs are amazing and the selection of food was so tasty and fresh. Best crispy chilli beef I think we’ve ever had. Team are lovely and we can’t wait to book again

Worst Chinese I've ever had chicken balls taste like they have been hanging around for days. Tough and inedible you should be ashamed of selling this food

Ordered food off Deliveroo and recieved the incorrect order. The woman was very unhelpful and rude. Kept saying it was Deliveroo’s fault even tho the receipt said the correct items. Chicken balls are incredibly chewy and oily.

I liked the atmosphere. On the other hand, it's not easy to find and the entrance doesn't make you want to go through it at all. Push the door and it has nothing to do with it.

I don’t understand any of the positive reviews or why the Mayflower is apparently an “award winning” restaurant. Every dish we ordered was poor; lacking flavour and overpriced. The chicken balls were overly greasy, the shredded duck was like the dry sweepings from the floor, the crispy beef was dry, chewy and flavourless, the bbq pork was overcooked. Abysmal, I’ll never order from here again!

Every single time we have been eating at this restaurant, the food has been delicious. Service was quick and the staff was polite and nice.

We had a takeaway delivered, choosing Mayflower because it is open Sunday lunchtime, first plus point! All the food was tasty, the sweet and sour sauce was much better than most other restaurants we've tried lately. Kids seemed to eat more from Mayflower than they would normally, saying the prawn crackers, prawn toast, chicken balls and crispy sea weed were super yummy! Thank you Mayflower :)

food was delicious and the ambience and decoration was such a classic cantonese restaurant! the stand out dish was the ginger and green onion beef, beef was so tender and cooked perfectly. staff was also very friendly and assisted us in a birthday surprise. would definitely be back here for authentic chinese food

Zero atmosphere, service can be brusque, but food is amazing! Pork and aubergine hotpot, oysters and pork hotpot, ‘mouthwatering’ cold chicken - outstanding. I come here a lot!

The OG high quality Chinese in Bristol Dim sum is rather limited in selection but tasty. Reliable, delicious, plentiful. Definitely my go to for a sit down Chinese meal The location under the bus station always makes me smile.

I believe that the Mayflower has the reputation of being the most suthentic Chinese restaurant in Bristol and certainly there seems to be many oriental people there. The ambience though is of a large cafeteria, which lets the experience down in my opinion.

A hidden gem in Bristol. Waiter Ray made our visit more special. With his dry sense of humour, he kept us laughing and well-fed all evening. Some might be put off by his direct manner, but we loved it. He gave insights into the food culture, which improved our choice of what to order and, when we showed interest, wrote our names in Chinese. The food was superb - some unusual and tasty items we hadn't found at other similar restaurants. Definitely one to return to if you want a more authentic Chinese/Hong Kong dining experience.

Price was expensive and for the small portion of food. Food taste was average , not the best compare to other Chinese food in Bristol. Food was quick to serve Rather go to little shangai neslonstreet portion there are bigger and worth the price.

First Chinese restaurant outside of Asia that I've been to that actually serves authentic food. Totally delicious and definitely worth the price. Waiting time was reasonable given the place was full to the last table, and we ordered quite a few dishes.

Yom Yom Yom. Friendly, fun, and ridiculously tasty.

The dim sum is best I've had in a long time, the shumai was the best I've ever had and I've had a lot! The lady in the Gucci glasses who served me and my mum was very helpful and friendly, can't wait to come back again. Char sui and crispy duck were both delicious and generous portions.

Lovely Chinese restaurant in the bustling heart of Bristol. Astounding on the flavour front, great to share a meal between a group as well. It’s a good atmosphere. Part of the table rotates, always a plus. If anything a bit pricey.

Twice cooked pork absolutely amazing, Fried fish fresh and bunch of other dishes very tasty ( I would not go over every dish as I have tried so many). There are some dishes you may not like due to the preparation, spices and taste but it’s how are made that’s all. I don't like most of the sides and soups but you won't be disappointed in general. You have to try bunch and decided what you really like.

Great tasty food. But the small bowl of chips was £6.30 !! Meal for 2 was nearly £60. Far too expensive for what it was. Neighbouring diner had to ask server for some sweet chilli sauce in to go with the spring rolls server was rude to her but bought some over. If you go, one rice is enough for 2 people. And drinks are very pricy. Would have scored better if price was more in line with similar places.

Wonderful food, huge portions; there were eight of us so we went for the banquet for eight on the back of the menu; it was busy but the dishes came quickly. Ray, the head waiter is a legend; he will banter (after many visits he has got me to use chopsticks rather than suffer his raised eyebrow and disappointed look) but if he recommends something or suggests a different way to order, do listen. It's become the go-to special occasions restaurant for our group, and it's my absolute favourite place to eat in the UK. Just bring a huge appetite (Portions are large, and great value) and a sense of humour.

Very authentic (real) Cantonese food. Portions are not cheap but big. My one dish and rice would have been enough for two people.

Visited here last week for a Chinese meal. On arrival I was shown to a table and given complimentary prawn crackers. I ordered chicken curry with boiled rice and chips, all of which tasted great and decent sized portions. I left feeling very full and would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Bristol.

As a Chinese family, we were looking for a good place to have some traditional Cantonese food. This was a great choice - everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. We especially enjoyed the roast duck so much that we ordered a whole one to take away.

Went as a group of 4 adults and 4 children, it was our first time visiting and we were not disappointed. The staff were so friendly and attentive, the Dim Sum was delicious and everyone left happy having had a nice relaxing lunch. Looking forward to going again.

There was a hair in the rice and the staff didn’t even bother to apologize. They just brought another bowl of cold rice which was obviously not fresh. I was so disgusted. The food is so so overrated especially for the price. So disappointing.

This is the second / third time ordering and once again been given boiled egg fried rice, I pacificly asked for egg fried rice with extra soya and they still seem to get my order wrong really annoyed with them. seriously thinking to change my usually take away

Picked up order of king prawn chow mien chicken curry and spare ribs. Got home had asked for crispy noodles no I got like ramen noodles, prawns were chewy and not many tasteless very disappointed. The chicken curry was slices of reconstituted chicken I guess also no taste. First and last time

Wow what a dreadful place , staff member Ray was the worst waitting staff you could possibly find , rude as hell , friends ordered a set meal for 8 , I asked could I order some separate dishes as a lot had sea food in them , no the waiter said , you get what’s on set menu,then walked away ,not wanting too up set my friends I just left it , when food came I just sat there with out eatting , was night mare , told friends was not my thing....1970s interior, rude staff , and food that looked and smelt like dog food ...

Llevo un tiempo viniendo por la excelente comida.Recomiendo el tofu de pimienta chisporroteante. Viene en un plato caliente (chisporroteando) y es muy sabroso. Otro favorito absoluto es la berenjena al ajillo.La mayoría de los platos parecen un poco caros, pero tenga en cuenta que la mayoría de ellos están destinados a ser compartidos. Para 2 personas, por lo general, obtengo las berenjenas con ajo (como arriba, realmente buenas, se derriten en la boca), un plato de tofu (chisporroteante o agridulce) y un arroz con vegetales (si eres vegano, asegúrate de que sé que te refieres al arroz gigante con grandes trozos de verduras y tofu, de lo contrario te traerán un arroz frito con verduras, que tiene huevo y, en mi opinión, no es tan bueno). Con esos 3 platos, se irá con suficientes sobras para otra comida de 2 personas.La calidad del servicio puede variar, dependiendo de quién se encargue de su pedido y porque el restaurante se llena mucho. Good Chinese food which we always enjoy although it’s nothing special. Service on our last visit was disappointing. They bought our mains out first then quickly served everything else so we had starters, mains and duck on our table at once. This stopped us being able to enjoy our meal and the food got cold. The staff were kind to me pre-school daughter.

A friend of ours who lived in Bristol for several years recommended this place when we came to visit. Looks decidedly shabby and low rent from the outside, but don’t let that put you off. Just great service (thanks sista) and excellent food. My wife loves Chinese and we’ve eaten all sorts in all countries from hawker stalls in Singapore to the awesome Min Yiang in Kensington. But for the UK, this is authentic and unpretentious. We had choi sum, twice cooked spicy pork, plain chow mein, and pork fried rice. And some starters. Needless to say we needed a doggy bag as the portions were generous. Go. Eat. Feed your face. You won’t be disappointed.

After a couple of my friends had recommendations, we went recently and it was quite disappointing. The menu is extensive but expensive dishes/sides. The decor is very basic and I was quite chilly. The chicken in my meal wasn’t very lean and the sauce was bland. Other choices made by friends were better though. Unfortunately, poor value for money and I wouldn’t return sadly.

We are really disappointed about how they managed my order. I ordered over 19£ and after, we decided order a dessert which was 2,50£ and the waiter told us we couldn’t order. Unfortunately we left our cash at home and I came there using my app to pay it. We’re really upset because we’re regular client... honestly we didn’t deserve this kind of answer! They could do better...

Found this place after a night out. It’s located in a pretty dodgy place underground. We had to wait at least 20 minutes for our food which seemed excessive for 2 rice and noodles. £27 for 2 rice dishes and noodles with curry sauce was very expensive. Food was average, I did enjoy mine but my friends didn’t like theirs.

Muy popular entre los residentes y estudiantes chinos locales. Sirven Dim Sum los domingos hasta las 4 también. Si te apetece probar algo nuevo, considera la olla caliente de pescado salado y berenjena o la olla caliente de cerdo con ostras. Las ostras estaban deliciosas. Debo decir que esta fue la mejor comida cantonesa que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. El personal es muy atento, profesional y servicial. Sin duda volveremos la próxima vez que estemos en Bristol.

Mis amigos y yo fuimos a cenar allí ya que han estado en este lugar antes y me gustó el lugar. Me 'advirtieron' cuán buena era la comida, pero no me advirtieron sobre su ubicación no tan buena. Básicamente, te sientes como si estuvieras entrando al lugar a través de un inodoro que no ha sido limpiado por un tiempo. La comida estaba bien. Nada de lo de los platos que probé. El pato aromático crujiente estaba bastante seco. No me gustó la textura del plato de pollo (no recuerdo qué era) pero el resto estaba bien. Entre los tres compartimos 3 platos principales, 2 entrantes, 1 - 2 pociones de arroz frito con huevo y 2 latas de refrescos. Me sorprendió bastante ver que la cuenta era de 82. 00 ya que todo lo que pedimos eran platos básicos como pollo agridulce. Nada de extravagante tipo. No me importa pagar precios premium por comida de calidad premium, pero como se mencionó anteriormente en su mejor momento estaban bien, así que no entendí el alboroto de este lugar.

After walking back and fore for a while, we rang the restaurant to ask for directions, we were within 50 yards of the front door but it was downstairs and no sign protruding to spot it. The food was excellent value and a good variety among the set menu we had for the two of us. We may well return here as it is open late and we look to eat after music concerts.

Quite a grotty location but close to hotels. Pleased to see predominantly Chinese guests. Broccoli al dente and other dishes acceptable but not outstanding. Service grizzly. Pricing of £40 for two with no drinks was high for the experience.

Returning for dinner to this old fave was again a delight. Discovered 12 months ago when visiting Bristol, food is still good. Soft shell crab- crisp& tasty & pork belly with pickled veg, meltingly tender.

We found this place on the internet and was not disappointed. Tucked down the right hand side of the Premier Inn we was a bit unsure as the take away situated on one level and the restaurant below looked a bit run down and my wife had doubts.

Nunca hemos encontrado comida tan buena como esta en Londres. Casi un año y decidimos ir allí de nuevo. No aprovechan para sorprenderme por la calidad de la comida, la buena relación calidad-precio y el servicio fabuloso. Dado que la zona no es tan inspiradora, ¡no nos impedirá volver a visitar este restaurante!

I used to use the mayflower regularly, both in the current location and when it was part of the Chinese community centre, it was famed for authentic food at a good price point.

All the food are cold and might be coming from microwave. They don’t even have sauce for rosted pot. Don’t waist your money there.

My husband and I visited on Friday night and were a little perturbed when we arrived to find it virtually empty and very cold in appearance. As we are unfamiliar with Bristol and it was not too far from where we were staying we went in nevertheless.
