basic place, although it's Great food at a great price, ( go to the store next-door for your alcohol, as they have no licence to sell it) that also makes it a cheaper night out! you need to book to get in. It's very popular Give it a go

Me and 4 of my friends went to May fair on 2nd August 2024 for dinner and it was a very good experience. As they dnt serve drinks, we were asked to get our own drinks from outside. The food were served within 5 minutes after ordering it. We ate > 1. Chicken fried rice. 8/10 2. Schezwan chicken 8/10 3. King prawn with veggies 10/10 4. Singapore chicken noodle 8/10. 5. Chicken cashew nut 3/10 ( lacked the zing and flavors) 6. Chicken chowmein 8/10 7. Mushroom rice 8/10 8. Banana fritters 7/10 ( the bananas were too riped) I'll recommend to have then in ball shape rather than a long string, cause then the banana separates from the batter. 9. Hot and garlic sauce mixed veggies 8/10.

This is a little gem of a place. Michael has been there for too many years to mention and they still deliver the best service and food in Nottingham, somehow at good prices. Don't forget to pick up your wine at the off-licence next door, who also deserve a mention. Great night out.

We first visited the Mayfair Restaurant over 30 years ago. This is still a very special restaurant. The food is excellent, the quality of the food is really good. There is a fabulous atmosphere in the restaurant. The price is more than reasonable. We were a party of 12, and the service was outstanding and quick. The staff are so polite, professional, and very helpful.

Best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. Been going here since I was 8 years old (I am 29 now). The food is amazing, the owner Michael is one of the nicest men you will ever meet, and the prices are amazing too! Thanks for many years of amazing food and hospitality Mayfair!

Love this place! I've been coming here for 20 years or so, it's consistently really good food and prices. Service can be a bit slow when it's busy but it's well worth the wait! Plus you can BYO booze (without a corkage fee). Takeaway is available.

Myself family and friend's have used this Chinese restaurant for over 40 years.I celebrate my 70th birthday today where would I rather be only the Mayfair 18 of us. Michael is such a lovely gentleman,humble, hard working(as is his brother the chief)nothing is too much trouble.Family run business passed down through the generation. The food always consistent,very reasonable in price plus a varied menu for dietary requirements.Cannot fault this restaurant . As other review's mention it's cash only and take your own alcohol.No corkage charge. Please take advice and book,so you're not disappointed.They also offer takeaway menu collection only no delivery.

Top notch excellent food and service

Arrived and they said they don’t accept cards, cash only; also they don’t sell alcohol. I set out leaving my partner to wait for me to get cash and zero cash machines take contactless (I did not have a card with me, just my phone) After 30 mins I had to ask my partner to leave. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.

We have lived nearby for 20 years, so, I am sorry not to have discovered Mayfair much sooner. Having had poor food and service from any number of locals in that time - including ones that should do much better - Chinese food has been off our go-to list for a long time now. Hats off then to Mayfair for a great spread of good value food. Ours was take away but, seeing the food to table, we will be happy to visit. Reception was good, food on time and gratuity refused as not necessary. I will enjoy the left-overs wokked up for lunch tomorrow.

Has no menu online. Called the restaurant to order for 20 people, and got told that we have to make a Facebook account to view the menu! 2024!!!!! How do they not know that most people do not use Facebook. It is for the older generation! The man said he could not help us! What shop does not have a website and online menu accessible to customers. We Shanghai Shanghai, who were more than happy to take our £450! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! There are much better places in Nottingham. Also, their shop looks filthy and the man was extremely rude! Too many good Chinese restaurants, unfortunately Mayfair is not one of them, lol! Imagine losing 20-25 individual customers in one go! We will be sure to spread the word on all of our social media platforms and across both unis. So glad that we did not spend our money there, Haha!!!

Only been twice for takeaway (they don't do delivery) but both times absolutely loved it, the food is amazing across the board! I also noticed the front of house using sign language to communicate with a man who came to collect takeaway, which is not a common thing in hospitality so it was really nice to see they do more for all spectrum of customers.

Cash only. Bring your own alcoholic (and even soft) drinks. I've been here two or three times with colleagues. By 6pm every table is taken, with reservations or people waiting for you to leave, and a steady stream of people collecting takeaway. There's a decent selection of vegetarian options. Prices are very reasonable. Service is excellent. Toilets are clean, although they are up a steep flight of stairs. So why 3 stars? I just don't like the food, and if I were choosing a place to eat in Nottingham, it wouldn't be here. But you might just love it!

Don’t be put off by the dated interior which hasn’t changed since the early 90s. This small family run business consistently serves the best quality Chinese food we’ve ever tasted. Always freshly prepared (either takeaway or dine in) and always the same high quality. If you decide to dine in there no alcohol served but you can bring your own and they’re no issue or charges. Enjoy !

When arrived rolled eyes after checking if they had the order correct then gave us food different to what we ordered. Plus had to wait even though we phoned before arriving

Amazing food and great service. The man who served us was nice and kept checking up on us. Small but cosy restaurant, it’s bring your own booze which definitely saved money and we both liked this. Food was great, the salt and pepper chicken wings were amazing! Would definitely recommend as prices were not ridiculous, only came to £25 with a starter, 2 mains, a side and a soft drink which is very reasonable. We will be back soon! :)

The best Chinese in Nottingham hands down. The food has consistently been outstanding in every way. The owner is such a sweet man and the customer service is top class.

**cash only** ensure you take cash to help Michael. One band front of house so be patient with him. Nice food. Good portions. Taking your own alcohol saves many of us a lot of restaurant cost so we can eat more or take some home.

We visited last night. Our meal was delicious we got so much food. The prices are exceptional. Me and my other half had a lovely time. We got talking to another couple and had such a lovely night. Will definitely be back. Thank you!

The best little Chinese restaurant in Nottingham - it has been a favourite of mine for over 30 years

Been visiting Mayfair for about 20 years and still haven't found anywhere comparable in Nottingham when it comes to the quality of the food. Mike is a great host who is attentive to the guests needs and very friendly. Prices very reasonable and drinks can be bought from the shop next door so no £4 charges for a soft drink. Restaurant is always tidy.

I Will start with the positives. The food is very good value and with them not having a licence to serve alcohol this was actually an advantage as you can bring your own booze. This saved probably £30 at least. Most of the food we ordered was tasty and promptly served although the spare ribs were a little over cooked. I can however only give 3* as there was a beef Sezchuan dish that was disgusting. It tasted like jellied eels! Also be aware they only take cash I was unaware and got caught in heavy rain trying to find a cash machine!

Dear Michael, What a fabulous place you have got. You appreciate we come from a long way. Just remember we come because the service and food, cannot be bettered any where. What an absolute find, we decided to try this small restaurant after many people told us how good the food was. We went on a Wednesday night, the place was warm and most tables full.The guy that runs it Mike what a lovely man, helpful friendly and proud of his restaurant and so he should be.... The food is probably the best Chinese iv tasted fresh full of flavour exceptional. We ordered lots of everything to try and I will say we will be back in a hurry Michaela and Jaz

Highly recommend a visit with fiends or as a couple. Cash only and bring your own alcohol, soft drinks on offer. Sesame seed prawn toast and chicken soup starters we delicious then a beautiful range of dishes for our main. Very popular on a Saturday night so I recommend you book .

Food was absolutely shocking my advice avoid this place at ALL COST

We love it here! It never changes, you always know exactly what to expect and people keep coming back. The guy who runs it is very friendly and takes the time for a chat. Would thoroughly recommend- great food and service.

Came here on my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed, the food is fresh and tasty. The service was quick and friendly but make sure you book as it gets busy. I’ll deffo return.

We have been coming here for well over a decade because we love the food and Michael the owner is a legend. The food is great quality takeaway standard with prices to match. It's BYOB which makes it good value if you're after a lower price meal out. Great for a quiet meal for two and likewise a perfect choice for larger groups.

Excellent food in basic but clean surroundings, brilliant value. Please note, not licensed premises so you can take your own booze, there's a shop right next door. Also, cash only at this restaurant! There's a cash machine nearby but I'm not sure if it charges or not, so best to withdraw some cash in town before heading up Mansfield Road if that's where you're coming from.

We had a spur of the moment need for some Chinese food. Found the Mayfair on trip advisor and was lucky to get a booking on a Monday night. It is a small restaurant and it was packed when we arrived, and no wonder! The food was excellent the service friendly and the value excellent. They don’t have a licence so it BYOB. But there is an excellent off-licence next door. It’s also cash only - but there is an atm next door as well. We had the crispy duck followed by Singapore noodles, sweet and sour chicken and duck in oyster sauce. All perfectly cooked and persuaded my daughter that Singapore noodles are worthwhile ordering. Please go - you will be pleased and the value was excellent

Been coming here for years, the owner greeted us by name and told food would be a little wait as he had a couple of unbooked small parties just come in. I'm fine when I know, ironically one of the groups was friends of ours who have also been coming here many years. Excellent food, atmosphere and a very fair price

went to this little gem, mayfair Chinese restaurant, wasn't a very big restaurant and very basic, the food was absolutely fantastic, cooked from fresh and very well presented all at a reasonable price, we booked our table for 6.30, by 7pm it was full probably about a dozen tables. The waiter probably the owner was the only one taking peoples orders and to say it was full he did a fantastic job of looking after evey body and you didn't have to wait long in between your courses. They don't serve alcohol only soft drinks, you can just take your own alcoholic drinks which is fantastic. If your ever in the area give them a try you won't be disappointed, I will certainly be going again

last time I came to Mayfair was over 20 years ago and the food was always fantastic.so we decided we would book a table to see if it was still fantastic.well I have to say the food was absolutely fantastic and the waiter still remembered me from over 20 years ago. we will definitely be visiting again would highly recommend.

I’ve been coming here since I was 16, I am now 60 years young. I never get tired of coming here. Food great, no rushing. I love it here and recommend it to anybody. Very clean venue, food was well nice. Service was ok.

Without question, the best Chinese ever. Been going here for 25 years. Hope I live long enough to go for another 25. Normally, when we go for Chinese everyone orders something and then we eat a bit of everyone's meal. Even just a taster. At the Mayfair... Don't touch my food. It's mine. Not for sharing. Recommend... Crispy ribs followed by Kung Po chicken and egg fried rice. Never fails. And as a BYO.... It's a cheap night out. Book in advance. And expect service to be when ready... Might take 20 mins... Might take 45. Don't fret. They are cooking stuff fresh. So relax. You'll get glad you did.

It is a little while since I visited here but it has been my favourite restaurant in Nottingham for many years and is excellent in every respect. I do want to mention the list of services shown on Google Maps. There are two features that can not be properly edited. 1. The restaurant occupies two floors, ground and first. 2. Neither beer nor wine or any other alcoholic beverage is offered here, but you can bring your own bottle, beer, or wine, and the restaurant provides glasses free of charge, i.e., no corkage charge.

Eaten here a number of times and always enjoyed great food and service, it is such good value. The food is freshly cooked to order and full of flavour, that along with it being BYO makes it a hidden Gem.

We chose here from the reviews on tripadvisor...peculiar little place! Stood at the door for ages then 1 man came shiwed us to our table... very small restaurant and it was full. We didn't realise it cash only so had to pop over to the cash machine and also you can bring your own drinks. Food was nice enough and came in good time which was astounding when there was only the 1 man sering us all night!! Peculiar little place but it was good.

Two couples Saturday night had a selection of dishes all good and tasty. Not licensed but supply glasses and you can buy cold beer wine ect from off-licence next door. Food and service was excellent .

we travelled from lancashire for a weekend away, this restaurant is fantastic.Thefood was wonderful and the guy michael was so lovely and friendly,everyone was shaking his hand and hugging him, that's how special this man is and the restaurant,we have been to a lot of chinese restaurants and this is up there in our top 3.Fantastic and thankyou xx

Best Chinese food at great prices and amazing service

A classic Chinese place in Nottingham's Mansfield road. It's been going since I've been in Nottingham and for good reason. The foods tasty, having all your Chinese favourites, it's cheap and you can bring your own booze (there's an off license next door).

Visited today for the first time, food was absolutely fantastic. Very friendly host, only thing to note is that the restaurant isn’t licensed but you can take your own and there is an off license very close by. Thankyou Michael, look forward to visiting again...

This Bring Your Own restaurant was a breath of fresh air is eating out. We googled for a nearby Chinese restaurant and made a good choice by going to the Mayfair. The food was extra tasty and reasonably priced.

Always a lovely dinner and excellent service from Mike and the team at Mayfair. We visit a few times a year for birthdays and celebrations, and it's always a great night out. BYOB is pretty unusual these days and it's really appreciated, as gives our big group of friends the flexibility to bring what they like to drink. The hot & sour soup, the vegetable lettuce wraps and the salt & pepper tofu are all excellent. The ribs are always popular too. Mayfair is a Nottingham institution. Go, you won't be disappointed!

What a great surprise. In an old terraced house but great food with a friendly atmosphere. Full of locals when we visited, always a good sign.
