May Sum in North Norfolk

We’ve had more than one take away from here, I’m strict vegan, the tofu was rock hard.. not impressed. Hubbys chicken S&S was really nice and the curry was fabulous I’m informed. Shame about my tofu

Have been several times before, never disappointed. Tonight was no exception. Everybody replete. Rest time now.

I have lived here for 40 years and have ordered many many meals from May Sum but at times was very disappointed with the quality. So stopped ordering from them. Heard that the take away had changed hands and have ordered two takeaways from there in the last two weeks and both times were excellent and the house special chow mein I’ve had are the best I’ve ever had in the entire time I’ve lived here! Meat so tender! Thank you May Sum, you’ll be seeing a lot more from me!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable takeaway from May Sum in Stalham. Very reasonably priced and decent portions, with enough left-overs for next day snacks. The staff were lovely, cheery and helpful.

There are three Chinese takeaways in this location within about 50 metres of each other, as I didn’t know which to choose I asked a local who directed me to this one. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and informed me my food would be about 25 minutes as they were so busy. The food I received wasn’t greasy at all and very tasty, I ordered sweat and sour prawn balls, beef with tomato, kung po chicken and egg fried rice. All very tasty and I wouldn’t hesitate to order from there again 5* Also very reasonably priced!!

We had this on our visit to Stalham. Really nice flavours, big menu, lots of vegetarian options and not too oily and greasy like a lot of Chinese can be! i recommend. Really friendly staff too :) x

First and last ...fancied CRISPY DUCK all I got was fatty meat ,,used to get crispy lamb from my old takaway all was crispy ..check photo...all meat was fat comon guys you charge enough ..poor

You will be truly disappointed. Food luke warm, tasteless, and spring rolls missing. Will never go there again

But no-one can mess up prawn crackers! The rest of the meal consisted of overcooked beef, extremely sweet sauce which I believe was to overpower the rest of the bland meal. We were the 1st ones in but still had to wait 30 minutes. We will not be waiting again!

Unfortunately it is our only Chinese fast food establishment for miles around. Even that is some what of contradiction of terms as it was nothing like fast we had to wait for over an hour for a simple set menu. When we arrived home it wasn't very warm it was extremely salty and the meat was rather tough. We shall not be returning....

Absolutely disgusting! This has so gone downhill. The meat especially the chicken was so tough and chewy in all the dishes. The chicken better balls were gross and the worst I've ever had. Dirty reception area and really grubby. I'll however go back and a waste of money ☹🤢

this used to be a very good takeaway,I don't know if it has changed hands or got new cook, but this last 6 months or more it has gone downhill. the BBQ sauce is thick and gloopy like wallpaper paste, the chicken fried rice tasted burnt, nearly everything looks brown including the free prawn crackers. think I will be giving this a miss from now on and certainly wouldn't recommend it to any body

It's not often that I can convince my wife to have a Chinese but last night she gave in. I really wish she hadn't! We ordered: Crispy chilly beef - The texture of deep fried polystyrene and the flavour burnt pork Special Fried Rice - Rice was okay but had same amount of meat a vegetarian lasagne Special Chow Mein - Loose use of the word special, this had less meat than the previous dish and the noodles slimy and overcooked, flavour was salty and sweet at the same time, yuck! However, they did manage to cook the prawn crackers well! Then I looked up the food hygiene rating - I think I might book myself in for a colonic irrigation today.

Ordered my dinner tonight from here.... Was absolutely disappointed.... I've never had such a bad Chinese... First my order wasn't complete after waiting half a hour, then I get home serve up to find I only had two little bits of chicken in my so called chicken curry, which was also sweet tasting and not at all curry like.... My bbq rice barely had any sauce on it, and as for the chicken balls, wow.... I think they should be called over cooked lumps of batter.... The chicken inside them wasn't even worth it, they were a tiny thin strip, and I mean tiny!!!!! Very disappointed, and considering its my local, its shocking.... Won't be going there or recommending it again!!

Popped in here for the first time last night as it is local to me. Never again! The food was greasy, the Chow Mein was tasteless with no seasoning or Soy sause,, the Sesame Prawn on toast was caked in grease and over cooked. the chps looked like that had been cooked and recooked in the fryer. a total waste of £20! it all went in the bin after the first taste. I shouldve looked at their food and Hygine rateing BEFORE I went it!

Ordered over the telephone . for a time for me to collect. ready when i arrived . food very hot and tasty and reasonably priced.

Nothing remarkable about this take-away, but food was OK, and very hgenerous "freebie" of crackers. Prices were fair, and waiting time minimal when I went

My son visited in May and one lazy evening we decided to have a meal prepared by somebody else.

Used this for ages as locals but was a bit unsure due to hong kong closing. Not sure who runs it now but so disappointing! Noticed when we went in how much the price has gone up on average 20% but my wife's chicken in the chow menu was anemic, onions raw, the beef has a very slimy feel to. It's a shame but after 20 years we won't be using this again as feel prices up, quality down & don't want to get ill, avoid at all cost!

The chilli beef was ok, but all other dishes including rice were very brown and unappealing. We will not be bothering with Chinese take away in Stalham again, which is a shame.

Hong Kong is mediocre, but a take away from here will leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Helpful staff. Nice takeaway but small portions. Kung po and shredded chilli beef was cooked in same sauce which was sweet and sour which was also the wrong sauces for these dishes. Will stick to our favourite ones in Bacton and Mundesley in future.

I ordered a takeaway from here Monday evening as a birthday treat and I have been poorly ever since. I ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken and mushroom dish which had lumps of a jelly like texture and special fried rice i felt ok while eating it but a few hours later....say no more!won't be going back. Has put me off Chinese now.

But was worth it. Only person in at the time... Everything was freshly cooked to order and once home enjoyed the meal very much.

Just eaten our takeaway and just had to leave a review. Not sure if it has new owners, but this was the best we have had in a long long time, our dishes were fantastic, hubby had some sweet and sour pork balls and although I never eat the batter the pork inside was beautiful white and tender, in the past when we've had the pork from anywhere it's been the brown meat and very chewy. all our dishes were gorgeous. Had a Chinese from a nearby village a few weeks ago and it wasn't a scratch on this.

Sunday was a dark day when we ordered from here food was burnt, greasy overpriced and after waiting for over an hour we ended up putting it in the bin and making a bacon sandwich, save your money, taste buds and sanity, shame on may sum

ALWAYS tasty. The man who takes your order is customer friendly a few quick with the orders. Provides correct times for pick up. Wish they delivered. Food is always fresh and hot in temperature. Good value. Love it!

Me and my partner love a Chinese on a Friday night! We have tried many and none compare to May Sum! Service is always fab! Although a little pricer then the other Chineses in Stalham it's defiantly worth the money. Food is always hot, flavoursome and tasty! Best Chinese in the area! Would love caramel chicken on my menu!! :-)

Dry rice, greasy chow mein, average lemon chicken, not the best by a long chalk. Will not be rushing back.

For many years (well over 25 years), this used to be one of my very regular take-aways - for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is very local to me, being less than 5minutes drive away. Secondly, and arguably more importantly, the food was always consistently either very good or excellent.However, recently, the long-time owners sold the operating lease, and the MaySum lease was taken over by one of the existing owners of one of the other Chinese outlets in Stalham (which was always considerably worse than MaySum) - and sadly, the quality of food has gone drastically downhill.OK, so the portion sizes may well be larger than most, but the actual quality is terrible. As an example, their chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce - now disgusting - the chicken meat is very poor, usually tough, rubbery and gristly (yuk). When you cut or bite into the battered chicken balls - they literally ooze with oily grease - if you squeeze them, oil dribbles from them. The sauce is also very poor quality - very false tasting - I doubt it is made from any fresh natural ingredients, and it seems to be loaded with MSG.Both my wife and I have discussed our concerns about poor quality with them - but they either don't seem to understand the need for healthy (ie, less oily) and quality (ie fresh ingredients of high quality) food, or they simply don't care. The only folks who I see in this establishment now are those who's tastebuds (and no doubt judgement) have been considerably numbed by high quantities of alcohol, or tourists from the nearby Broads.

Wasn't sure what to expect when we read the menu as we don't usually like Cantonese style food but it was lovely and if recommend this takeaway to anyone. The BBQ ribs were my personal favourite, the meat fell off the bone.

Had lovely take away tonight , We had a House special chow mein and Roast Duck & Roast Pork really well cooked both the dishes the pancake roll was out of this world,take less than 15 minutes , service was excellent by a very nice person Will definitely going back again

My local takeaway, always good food never disappointed. The only complaint is I wish they had a restaurant attached.
