Great local pub with excellent food

We had a family meal last night and were very disappointed with the slow service and poor presentation of the dishes. The chicken katsu I ordered just looked dumped on the plate with no finesse. We asked for extras with the burgers which were missing and I had to request again. This is the second time we have visited and requested a wine on the list which was yet again unavailable. We would have stopped for a dessert but due to the time already passed we didn't want to wait any longer.

We had booked months in advance for my Mum's 80th birthday at the start of December for 12 people, we even phoned up the week before to check the booking they assured us it was all OK. However when we arrived we was told we had no table in the function room where we had requested. We was told no sorry it's all Christmas parties in there and they had put us on a table in the bar area! At this point we was also told you can't specify where you want to be! Even though when we had booked in person in the restaurant saying can we be in there, was told yes no problem. I also know for a fact when booking online you can specify where you want to sit! Anyway we was shown where our table was but there was people still sitting at our table so was told we had to wait. This was only 5 minutes before our booking time so we had to stand there with the cake, balloons and everything for the table which we was hoping to sort before our guests arrived. The waitresses were lovely and couldn't apologise enough, but this was clearly not their fault. In the end all the guests had arrived and we were all still standing there. The waitresses then came up with changing some tables around in another quieter area just off the bar and this was much better so we were at least able to get sat down. Having said that the carvery was lovely, it was just the organisation that wasn't. We spent alot of money that day, mangerment wouldn't even come to see us or even offer any form of discount or apologise. We were not the only party not happy that day, we overheard another party complaining too. Great place if its just a couple of you and you want a nice roast but not for a big party. Top marks to the waitresses holding it together.
