Fox Inn Bury St Edmunds in St Edmundsbury

I popped in here for a drink with my family. I ordered a wine spritzer and 3 non alcoholic drinks which came to about 25 pounds. Whilst the pub is beautiful and has lots of periods features the second I walked in I was told they couldn't do food til 6 before I even sat down and when I gave my basic drinks order it seemed to confuse the bar staff no end. Whilst the manager was very accommodating when my daughter spilled ice all over the floor, I felt the other staff were standoffish to the point of rudeness. A nice place, but perhaps they prefer a certain type of clientele.

The Fox Inn is my local pub and the best location for a good meal and a lovely beer after a day out. I love this pub!!!

15 years ago this place had excellent food. Now the food is overpriced and tastes like it has just been warmed up in the microwave. The food is tasteless and did not seem fresh. There was a long wait for the food. The entrance is on a blind corner and pokey little car park.

Only had drinks, but service was excellent.

Amy and Adam are absolutely awesome! I love the fox. The food is great, the staff is lovely and friendly. I go at least once a week and will continue to for the lovely atmosphere, great food and pints

We just ate their lasagne there this evening , March14th , the food was beyond exellent, it was very very tasty . The service was great with lots of smiles . We will certanly be going back there. Mac Robertson

Great little local, friendly staff, good selection of beers and wine. Excellent reasonably priced food.

Clare was very friendly and cheerful. She gave excellent service, food was served quickly and very hot. We will be back very soon.

Slightly out of the centre, but well worth the effort , the atmosphere, service and the quality and quantity of the food was very good.

i visited the pub with my partner for a drink and i got served by lewis, he was absolutely amazing! he was so welcoming and so funny! will definitely be back! thankyou lewis for such great costumer service!💕

Had lunch today x very disappointed I asked for a Jp with my gammon x it was the size of a new potato so small and peas were dark and old x not in a hurry to rush back x

Haven't been to The Fox post covid. So was like going back in time for me...I had the fishcakes which were delish! Waitress very polite and attentive. Have already made a plan with my pa to go back

We had a family meal last night and were very disappointed with the slow service and poor presentation of the dishes. The chicken katsu I ordered just looked dumped on the plate with no finesse. We asked for extras with the burgers which were missing and I had to request again. This is the second time we have visited and requested a wine on the list which was yet again unavailable. We would have stopped for a dessert but due to the time already passed we didn't want to wait any longer.

Lovely pub, good beers, unfortunately is a foodie pub as well so the staff were not particularly friendly. We had a group of ten or so from Brightlingsea Regent FC and were well behaved. A bit of contact would have been nice but understand the guys were busy.

Had a problem with our steak and the server was lovely and sorted it straight away!

We have a party of 10, all ready before are allotted time, we had to wait to order as one of us was a little later than the rest, once ordered food did take a while to arrive but there was another large party who had ordered before us so this was understandable, food was nice and they gave us a free round of drinks and a more than fair discount for our wait, would dine here again.

Good food and friendly staff, although service was a little slow. That said we did get given a discount as an apology.

Staff disinterested. In a 40 min spell, one simple drink selection dismissed:one complaint about a life ex product and a last orders application without announcement. Staff going through the motions. Staff not invested and company inefficient.

Booked a table for 4. Was able to be sat and served 30mins earlier than our original booking slot. Menu includes many dietary variations, especially vegan food which wasn't your normal "vegan burger and salad," which my partner appreciated. Abbot ale by the fire on a cold day was fab, food was very delicious and prices are not breaking the bank either. Partner mentioned I kept talking about the food most of the day how good it was so it must of been good. Order was a BBQ Chicken wrap with a salad and sea salted fries and an Abbot Ale.

Turned up very last minute for food, but were able to accommodate us. Food and service were excellent, very dog friendly, would definitely visit again.

Food was generally good but the Beef was very tough and only just edible.

Pub is great but can be hard getting a seat so book in advance

I did not stay. I use it for my book group and family history group, staying for lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food tasty.

Came for Sunday dinner. Food was… edible, but unfortunately that’s the best I can say about it. Overpriced, but quite obviously microwaved, frozen or not prepared on site. The choice of beer is very limited compared to other Greene King pubs - which I found to be quite strange too. Such a disappointment - especially in comparison to The Dog and Partridge. The staff were lovely, polite and welcoming - but I’m sad to say we will not be returning.

I was taken out for a rather late Father's day meal , The service and the meal was first-class the drinks were very good all brought to our table by an extremely pleasant young lady, An all round pleasant experience.

A wonderful pub. Stayed in Room 5 for the last couple of days and it was superb. Spacious, clean and really well equipped. Food was delicious. Adam and Nat are great hosts. Recommended

The perfect pub (with rooms) Superb atmosphere, great food and faultless service. Nothing too much trouble. I own my own B&B so am normally a very fussy customer. Rooms are really well considered and high spec (air conditioning, heated floor, electric velux etc etc). Parking is free and directly outside the rooms (which are in the converted barns). For a town centre location the rooms are quiet. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed. Powerful shower with thoughtful touches such as the demisting mirrors. Beautifully lit and really well appointed. Very highly recommended.

Good Service and Food and friendly staff.. Not exspensive

Very sorry to leave a poor review as we have eaten here before and enjoyed it. Today's experience, however, was poor. We were given time to look at the menu and choose. But when we started to order we were told our choices were not available. We were then given a whole list of things that were off the menu. Even after we selected our meals the waitress had to come back and say that some of those were also, in fact, unavailable. I felt sorry for the waitress who was clearly embarrassed and very apologetic. She was doing her level best to provide a service. The kitchen really needs to look at the stock levels and someone needs to plan ahead and ensure there is sufficient choice for the number of bookings you have. We were not a last minute booking. Poor show by management and we will think twice before coming again.

Good food,friendly staff and great location

Very comfortable room in a small block behind the pub. Quiet location. All staff most friendly and welcoming. Great evening meal. Breakfast was fine, with excellent coffee. Really well placed for a walk into town and nearby Abbey grounds. The station is also fairly close if one wanted to travel further afield. We would be more than happy to stay there in future.

Fantastic evening meal, exceptional service from Claire whom I spoke with on the phone prior as I didn't know what time we would arrive she assured a table for 3 would be available, lovely warm welcome and seated to a table promptly, although the pub was busy, straight away drinks order taken. Ordered the lamb shank, and the sea bass and scallops risotto amazing! Hot and delicious, my son devoured the burger! Had the small puddings with hot drinks amazing value! Fabulous experience thoroughly enjoyed thanks guys we will be back!!

We had a meal here for my Grandaughters Birthday, it was perfect, lovely friendly staff, excellent meal, quick friendly service, couldn’t faullt anything. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely first class for a family meal (2 grandsons 6 & 10 plus us and their mum), good menu, most of all the young lady at the bar made us all feel very welcome.

Lovely location and the staff couldn't be nicer, just the building itself is feeling a bit tired now and needs a bit of a spruce up. Food for the money was OK, but it was very low quality and I would have rather have paid a bit more for better.

Nice, reasonably priced food. However the outside seating area is to the side of the carpark, so not very pleasant

I brought my neighbour here for her birthday and we had the most amazing meal, the fish was so fresh and the vegetables were to perfection!! The service was on point and the food arrived in good time. And we tried some really unique gins, our waitress was the highlight of our night she had the most amount of banter and oodles of personality we will come back just to say hi to Claire

Staff are always warm and welcoming especially Amy and Clare!! Always have my Peroni ready when im arriving.

Just popped in for a lunch with my in-laws... food was at best bad .. service was at best bad .. Would not recommend or return... Best thing about it was its location

Good straight forward food, great staff, lovely room. Next,our fourth visit,after the last post,same again....excellent.

The food was OK except for the vegetables which were overcooked and not pleasing to the eyes. Took a bite of the carrots, and it had a rubbery texture. Refused to eat the remaining veggies This pub is known for good food. I just hope this is a one-off. I will return.

Great food here in this old but beautifully preserved building. And in a great spot to visit the sights of Bury St Edmunds.

Met friends for lunch,friend ongoing cancer treatment so unable to eat solid food no problem with her just having soup for main meal,staff so helpful, our meals were lovely thankyou.

We took family there today 15 June. We had not booked but as there were 9 of us we were lucky and they looked after us it was my husband 81 birthday food was brilliant even the children enjoyed it staff were brilliant nothing to much trouble we will go again worth. the ride from Norfolk

Went as part of my birthday celebrations. Lunch with ex colleagues. Really enjoyable , leisurely lunch.

Had lunch at The Fox with my colleague which was absolutely fantastic.....hot food was served by a very pleasant friendly waitress.....service by Clare from beginning to end was 100%....

Absolutely lovely pub, been here many times. Food is always top tier. Staff are lovely, nothing is ever too much for them. Natalie and Adam have created such a warming and friendly atmosphere to the place. Lovely building dating back years, hotel rooms lovely (room 6 is definitely worth a visit will be coming for many years to come

Lovely 15th century coaching inn with great food and service. We had Sunday roast dinners and were excellent. Parking on site too. Right opposite Abbey and cathedral.

Highly recommend. Well positioned for the Abbey and shops. Lovely rooms and food 👌.
