We visited Matsuya in Pinner when it was a Indian restaurant and the food was fairly average. It has since kept its name but changed its cuisine focus to Nosh & Cheese. The menu is very confusing as it seems the restaurant hasn’t quite figured out their new identity since they moved away from Indian cuisine. We ordered the torpedo potato fries which we were told were very crispy. This was an understatement ! One could only describe the fries as soft, soggy and we immediately regretted ordering it. We also ordered the humous and zaatar. One member of staff described it as a naan with zaatar spices when in fact it was a chewy hard baked flat bread. This would not be a big deal if the bread had been served soft & hot but it was cold & hard and you could easily bounce it off the floor. I would highly highly recommend avoiding this venue even if it attempts to reinvent itself yet again !

This was by far one of the worst I have experienced in a while. I don’t really think the owners know what is it that they want from their cuisine. When asked was told it was Indian fusion. The lady owner is a very pleasant person and trying very hard. It was not busy for a Friday and the service was average. I do wish they can change things around, if not there is only one way it will head to. I only visited because I had a £15 voucher. Thank God for that.

I can honestly say that this is the worst restaurant I have ever been to! I have been wanting to try out this restaurant since it opened & so made a dinner reservation for myself & my business associates - I really wish I had not... The restaurant itself is in a lovely location & in terms of appearance is ok. We were greeted by (whom we later found out) was the owner of the restaurant. Despite having booked, he had no knowledge of our reservation (table of 7)... after standing around waiting for him to scramble around checking for our reservation he finally found our booking & showed us to our table with no apology (curiously, the restaurant was empty at this peak time, bar a couple - was it really necessary for us to be left standing for what seemed like an eternity!?). The menu deviates from your standard Indian menu which is not a bad thing however, descriptions of these unusual dishes were sparse & so we sought some clarity/recommendations from the waiting staff. After finally getting her attention (she was busy on her mobile), she finally came over with a very unfriendly & uninterested attitude. When asked about the dishes, not much was explained... she clearly did not seem to know much & couldn't be bothered to find out. (We couldn't help but notice the owner sitting in a booth canoodling with his wife? He could have taken the initiative to come over & help as he definitely would have heard us, what with the restaurant being dead - unfortunately not!) We ended up ordering a number of dishes to share (using the internet to get some idea of what the dishes were!). Having waited over 45 minutes, our food finally arrived & how disappointing it was.... the mains were sized to be more like starters, the lamb dish we ordered was horribly over cooked & chewy, other dishes were bland or overly spicy.... the dishes tasted worse than microwave meals... really disgusting! Not one single dish was enjoyed by myself or my party. (Having waited so long, we expected the food to be freshly made & worth the wait... instead we got food that was close to inedible!) When we politely complained about the food, the 'wife'?' came over & started shouting at us saying that the dishes were fine & clearly not to our taste! At this point we had enough & (reluctantly) settled the bill to leave. Drinks were over priced but otherwise ok. A couple of my associates visited the bathroom which they claimed were filthy (absolutely stunk, no tissue, skid marks in the toilet!). En-route to the bathroom, the kitchen could be seen to the left.... enough to make you want to throw up! A member of the kitchen staff seen picking their nose.... worktops etc absolutely filthy, food left all over the place (including meat!)... (we have since reported the restaurant to the foods standards agency). As we hungrily left the restaurant, we were met with cold stares from both the owner and his wife... what an experience! I felt utterly embarrassed to have brought my associates here & really wish I had not. Given how quite the restaurant is (I now understand why!), you would think that the owner/his staff would do everything to ensure the few customers they get had a good experience but they clearly do not care! I honestly believe that the few good reviews for this restaurant have been left by associates of the owner at his request.... in hindsight, this is abundantly clear given that the reviews are either terrible or really good. Save your money, time & dignity... AVOID this poor excuse of a restaurant

We are there last week and the food was delicious. We had a few smaller dishes and shared them all. Sweet potatoes bites, jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese, lamb kebabs and cottage cheese ball kebabs. These were accompanied by lovely sauces/pickles. The wine was very good value and delicious. For dessert I had a candy cocktail, which was fun and tasty. We cannot wait to go back.

Went to this restaurant in Pinner today, looked nice from outside so thought we would try. The restaurant was mostly empty on a Friday evening whilst the next door restaurant was very busy, which should have served as a warning. The menu was unusual with an eclectic mix of Indian dishes. The curries we ordered all tasted mediocre, the nan bread was too doughy like it was not cooked through and the accompanying salad was served in what was the smallest thimble sized type bowl you could imagine. I'm sure a few extra pieces of salad would not have broken the bank when customers were paying around £15-£17 for a main course supposedly with salad. The common denominator was that the food was mediocre, portions were very small and I feel the food is overpriced for what is received. In my opinion there are far better value restaurants in Pinner than this one.

I love this place. The food is excellent and a real bonus for me is that almost every dish is gluten free. They haven’t quite got service right after trying something new with their buzzer system but the staff are always friendly. These are not the largest portions but definitely some of the tastiest I’ve experienced.

Decided to try somewhere different. Matsya didn’t disappoint. It’s Indian food with a different vibe. Felt far more authentic and tasted delicious. We tried the Crispy donut’s starter with an interesting filling which were really different. Great palate cleanser. Also tried Lentil dumplings in yogurt sauce. Quite different, sweet and savoury at the same time. 2 of our party had the Thali’s. Little bowls of delight. Another 2 had lamb Bhuna with Jeera Pilau both were very tasty and very filling. My husband and I shared a teekha cocos chicken and lazeez lamb Kadai dish and also the chilli paneer with a Jeera pilau too. All were delicious. We finished with coffee and a couple of lovely whiskeys. Staff were really helpful and explained how there food was different and helped with recommendations. Will definitely be going back and will definitely recommend. Lovely evening out. Thanks Matsya.

Visited this restaurant hoping for a treat. What a let down! This place is pretentious, overpriced, rude owners and absolutely eye watering miniscule portions. Could have forgiven all the above if the food was tasty...but to top off the disappointing evening....the food was exceptionally bland oily and stale. £ 65 down the drain and a ruined evening. Please avoid at all costs

Visited Matsya today which is classed as a contemporary fine dining indian restaurant. We were shown to our table of 4 and the waitress took away plates and cutlery for 2 people. Hence we had to move the adjacent plates and cutlery to our side which is not acceptable. Starters were great. However we weren't offered any poppadoms. Main curry was okay but garlic naan bread was the worst we have ever had. The naans we get from a supermarket are probably better. Would have expected much better from a fine dining restaurant. Liked the interior decor and ambience but would have liked great food and service too. Don't think we will be visiting again

Booked the restaurant to treat someone for their retirement dinner. Phoned the restaurant twice to ensure that the food would be good ,fresh and presentable and tasty. Ordered Paneer Tikka that was bland and pale looking. Murgh Tikka was tasty but the meat was not fresh, Sheesh Kebab had no taste. Prawns dish consisted of 4-5 small prawns otherwise rest was peppers and onions in oriental sauce. For the mains we ordered Bhindi Masala, again very bland and tasteless and cooked from frozen packet. Keema Lamb was served warm and again no taste. Cocos chicken again lacked any taste or flavour. The garlic naan was flat and dry. I very much doubt if the restaurant has a tandoor oven. Sad say but give this place a miss. There are much better Indian restaurants in the area.

Had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant and went with an old friend on Sunday at lunchtime. Initially welcomed and shown to a nice table only to then be served by a young man who did not seem to know what he was doing. After some confusion he explained that it was a buffet only and I asked him to tell us what the dishes were. I am hard of hearing and I had to ask him twice to look at me as he was speaking but he kept turning away despite me explaining why, then his solution was to take us to the buffet which still didn’t make it any clearer. The first things that he pointed out to me were the baked beans and scrambled eggs!!! Funnily enough I know exactly what they are! Too much fuss was made over ordering a glass of lassi that I decided against it. He seemed to have an air of genuine bafflement about him. When our plates finally arrived (after having asked twice) we discovered that most of the buffet dishes were almost if not entirely empty. The food was ok but only lukewarm. We both took small amounts and when we saw the dishes replenished had another serving of different dishes. As has already been said, they all tasted very similar. Not awful but just ok and once again not hot enough. And on top of that the actual restaurant was absolutely freezing cold, I was shivering by the end of the meal. I asked the waitress if they had puddings and was told in a patronising tone that “we don’t have puddings but we do have desserts” . She obviously thought it is acceptable to lecture paying customers on matters of language and etiquette. It was cheap..under £30 for two but I would rather have paid double or more for decent food in a warm room. Disappointing and will definitely not be returning.
