Matlock Green Fish Bar in Derby

Ordered a regular chips for £3.20 and got a bag of scraps. The chips looked and tasted like they’d be cooked 5 times over. The woman who served us wasn’t very friendly. When we walked in she was putting some fresh chips in to fry, but we got the impression she gave us the scraps because we weren’t ordering anything with it, like a fish. She didn’t even ask if we wanted salt & vinegar - not that it would have made much difference to the flavour as they were tasteless and dry. In this day and age, you’d think small businesses would appreciate customers. I’d save your money or go somewhere else.

Absolutely brilliant,fast take away massive portions chips plus had fish cake , lovely. Been there before and was good ,must be new owners.

Ordered two yorkshire fishcakes ,hardly any fish in them and the potatoes were so thick and not cooked so didn't eat them .not be bothering again

Terrible service . Women who serves very arrogant and ignorant. No manners. Pricing boreds are a shambles .

First visit here on a recent Matlock trip. Very friendly staff, really good food. Chips were good, salad was very fresh. Just what was needed. Will certainly visit when next in the area.

Over priced tastless food Purchased our food from there and has to be the worst I've tasted in a very long time. Couldn't taste any salt any vinegar on our food and we even asked twice for it.The lady who served us was as if she didn't want to be there.

Fantastic chippy, food fresh and mint service friendly girl who served me. Will return recommended chippy by someone and wasnt left disappointed

Collected x3 large battered sausages and chips, the chips were very nice and so was the battered sausage although the sausage could do with more batter.

Called here a couple of times last few months.. lovely chips and hot and fresh kebab meat sliced to order, excellent food and service...well done!

Phoned in the order and collected 15minutws later- chips were perfect! We had a mixture of items including chicken kebab, plaice and sausages - all tasty and good value. We will return

I will never come here again - customer service very poor! I'd handed over a £5 note (had it in my hand standing to pay) then sorted the rest from change in my purse to be then asked for the £5 saying I hadn't paid it! Other staff member backed her up even though she hadn't even been looking and both were plainly wrong! Very unpleasant and upsetting.

Bit of a wait but worth it. Fish n chip peas curry or and chips n peas all for £19.40. Fish cooked fresh, friendly service cooked lovely, portions good.

My two mini fish & chips were cooked fresh and tasted quite nice. The attitude of the the two ladies serving was not nice. I was accused of not ordering my peas because she(the large lady) had not written them down however I had been charged for them! & I know I asked for them. So you would expect oh sorry I'll get them for you, no just a scowl and continued serving someone else.The other lady did get my peas but didnt have the courtesy to speak. I'm afraid I am fed up with people who don't treat the customer with respect and have no manners so I now vote with my feet & won't be back to be scowled and glared at. Manners go a long way and businesses need customers.

For undercooked chips! Third time in a row i have been here and the chips are dreadful (ive learnt my lesson now) to be fair the fish is always nice, but thats only half the picture,,,,,,,,

Called in thurs night for a quick supper after work, had a kebab open to eat in my car, lovely pitta bread, fresh salad and nice hot fresh donner meat, friendly polite man who served me, will be dropping in for my supper again, excellent !!

Everyone thinks they have a chip shop that is the best, this probably isn't it but it is very very good. It's not in Whitby or near the coast where the fish comes directly from the fishing boat, so why is a little shop in a small town so good? I have no idea but it is. A 2 man shop, one mainly cooking, mostly to order and one putting the meal together and taking the money.

The lady who served was very nice.Shame about the food.Cold greasy fish with soggy batter.Cold chips.Peas were nice and so was the tea.Possibly the worst fish and chips iv ever eaten.It was 11 .30 am.Quite a few people in there but the food had obviously been hanging around for too long.Couldn't be bothered to complain .Avoid.

Called here today, it was out of season but everything was perfect, and so friendly, the whole area is lovely and well kept

Visited today at around 2pm so not peak time..However the food was very nice.Beautifully cooked and piping hot.. Not easy at off peak time..friendly service..parking spaces close by...All in all,a great place for food.

Tenía un delicioso bacalao y patatas fritas. Recién preparado y muy sabroso. El personal es fabuloso, la señorita que me atendió fue en su día la calle y fue genial. Gran selección de artículos para todos los gustos. Ubicación concurrida tan agradable recién preparado no ha artículos para las edades de estar que es genial.

Visited at lunchtime today and as usual got some great food. Chips were fresh as we had to wait while they were cooked but worth the wait. Great chips but the staff weren't very talkative or happy.

Nunca no me falla, yendo aquí es mejor que el otro Fish n chip tiendas locales. Ten cuidado, Las porciones son generalmente bastante generoso. Tengo un kebab con ensalada y patatas fritas y terminan nunca, pero es muy sabrosa. El servicio también es muy bueno y agradable. Gracias a los chicos!

Excellent fish & chips..! Best we've had in ages. The family travelled from Bala in Wales to Matlock in our motorhome and stopped here before we settled for the night and were very impressed! Huge portions

Good quality fish and chips - not open on Sundays -clean and quick service at this out of town location located in Matlock Green area the only fish and cmip sop in a one mile radius

I have been buying fish & chips at this friendly local chippie for years now and would recommend it for the quality and freshness of its food. The portions are more generous than in some other chippies in the area, and the prices are very reasonable.

When feeling peckish, my local chippy is ideal, Malock Green chippy serve lovely tasting chips in large or small portions, you can tell the chips are good quality,cook in fresh chip oil. I myself love the chips with fishcake and mushy peas. So if you in and around Matlock nip to the Green chippy for great tasting chips at a reasonable price.

I visit the above chippy on a regular basis as i am a resident in the area and i also enjoy the food. The fish is very fresh the kebabs are extremely tasty and the staff friendly too. We visit twice a week without fail and neaver had a bad meal. was Amazed when i red a bad review about the place as always would give it top marks. Keep it up Ladies & gents.

Not more to say other than this is my local chippy, the food is of a good standard and the owners are friendly.

We absolutely love their fish and chips. After moving back to the area, we tried lots of chippys, and this is by far the best.

A group of us eat here last night. The food was very good and you could buy mini fish chips meals for kids which stop the night getting too expensive. Very busy due to the illuminations but well worth it.

Having used the fish and Chips shops in Matlock Bath previously, we decided to go just outside of Matlock because of our previous poor experiences for a number of reasons. This visit to Matlock Green only served to further disappoint. A portion of chips costs £1.70 with gravy or curry sauce. When my wife came back to the car, both of my boys asked if we had shared 1 portion between us. I counted just 23 chips on my tray. Compared to chips shops near to where I live, we would have paid around 30 pence less for a bag of chips equal to all four of our portions. We will not visit there again and would not recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, we then had to call for a pizza on the way home!
