Question “Does the baguette come with a salad garnish or crisps”? Answer “Yes”. Unsure why we paid extra for the salad that we were told was a garnish. Makes sense why the other baguette was just that, a baguette. Not even made to look pretty, just a roll 🤷🏻‍♀️ We didn’t have any cake 😊 But thanks for your reply 😂👏🏻

What a delightful café! We visited Great Missenden for the St Andrews 2024 Christian Literature Festival and Matilda’s was recommended by the event organisers. The staff who served us were lovely! Food came quickly and was delicious. Prices were affordable and fair. Totally recommend for a tasty lunch.

the food is really nice however the wait time is always very long, even for just a drink (takes around 15-20 mins) so inconvenient.

Breakfast lovely can't. Complain & omelettes with chips salad and coleslaw come fresh been back a few times and always impresses. Slightly over priced but it's the area it's in I suppose

Matilda's in Great Missenden offers a cozy ambiance for a morning meal. Opting for the English breakfast, I found it cooked nicely. Though it was missing a sausage, I felt it unnecessary to mention, as the overall experience was pleasant, with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.

Comparatively clean, that’s about all I can say that is positive Bacon baguette was stale and the bacon fatty. Person making coffee sounded as if they were banging a dustbin with a shovel, not exactly restful. Poor which is a shame as I like to support local businesses wherever possible.

I come in to Matilda's every now and then with my daughter (I'm a single dad) and it is always a lovely experience with friendly staff, nice food and prompt service.

Went in for an early lunch, and received my drink promptly. The menu has options for everyone and the food was very tasty! Staff were also very friendly so great all around :)

Without a doubt the worst French toast I’ve ever had, the person who made has obviously never seen or eaten French toast before. The service was efficient but lacking care. Feels like a bit of a con that they called it ‘Matilda’s’ to try and pick up customers in town for the Roald Dahl museum but it’s actually a completely unrelated, over priced, average cafe.

Went there for lunch with my husband. Food took ages to arrive.I had a mozzarello, pesto and sundried tomato pannini, which was poor. Only the middle third was filled, sparsely at that. The two end sections, more than a quarter at either end, were completely devoid of any filling, not even pesto. My husband had an omelette that was overcooked and flovourless. Wouldn't recommend or go back.

Nicely busy, clean toilets, prompt service but I could see the staff making the food eating from the containers then moving onto food prep without washing their hands.

Have been here for breakfast and lunch numerous times. Friends, on my own, with my dogs and family. Today I came for lunch, my granddaughter wanted cake and milkshake. Happened to mention my granddaughter doesn't like eating in front of people, the young lady who served us, without ado just placed the cake in a bag and gave it to us. No question, no problem. Thank you

Waited patiently to be served. Then a large group 20+ walkers came in for drinks and they were served before us. Breakfast came out promptly however all three were shocking. French toast was so wet and soggy and we asked for only bananas and syrup but it came with bacon. The full English came with almost raw cold mushrooms, so raw I actually laughed but the waitress disappeared before noticing my reaction. The veggie breakfast also had raw mushrooms. Overall both dry and just thrown together. Waitress didn’t comment on three almost full uneaten breakfasts when she cleared away. I definitely wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend.

Visited Matilda’s with two friends we all had the omelettes two of us had upset stomachs and felt nauseous that evening. Have been to Matilda’s on a few occasions and the food had always been good but the omelettes this time did taste a bit greasy but wasn’t expecting to feel unwell following this visit so not sure what went wrong. It was very busy as it is a popular place and the staff are friendly.

We cannot speak too highly of Matilda’s. We have now visited several times and have yet to have a bad experience in any way. There is always a friendly welcome and they seem as happy to serve a simple coffee order as they are a main meal and pudding! Coffee is great and food is freshly cooked and so, so good! The menu is a happy mix of tasty burgers, salads, wraps, specials and Middle Eastern yumminess (as well as naughty puddings). We think this is why there is always a really diverse bunch of customers… elderly couples, families, young folks, visitors and locals. Oh, and the ice cream (simple vanilla) is great to take out for a walk around the nearby recreation ground.

We had lunch but earlier my daughter and grandson had breakfast. they got her order wrong - but she overlooked it however a 50 minute wait for our meal - no apology just an explanation when we asked after 40 mins how much longer she she its normally 30 mins but they are busy today. When I complained later again no apology just a poor justification that they had 50 customers. The restaurant I noticed seats approx that number so I don't see the problem. would not return or recommend

Visited on a busy Friday morning. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Eggs florentine with avocado was fresh and tasty. Freshly squeezed orange juice and cappuccino were very nice. Ambience in the cafe was lovely and despite me spending time with my laptop working and checking mails, I was not rushed at all. I will be back soon!

I stopped off to grab a quick lunch and was asked if I’d like to pay now or at the end. Paid on my card and sat down, quite a long wait and then I saw my order being given to another table. Got my food from the other customer, ate it and left. The same girl who I had paid at the start followed me out to ask if I had paid! Food is ok but the service clearly needs attention.

We ate here after visiting the Ronald Dahl museum. The staff were friendly and the food was good. There was plenty of choice for different tastes.

Unfortunately my vegan sandwich (marked so on the menu and specified the same when ordering) was prepared with dairy butter. When I asked the waitress, who checked with the chef, I was told it was due to a new chef who made it with butter when it wouldn’t usually have that as an ingredient. They didn’t seem to take the matter seriously but did ask if I’d like a replacement. I was only offered an apology once I let them know that this wasn’t acceptable, late on in the conversation. I can’t recommend Matilda’s for those suffering with allergies or with dietary restrictions.

Group of us visited on a very busy Saturday lunchtime.The ambience of the cafe is good, and we were very happy with the food we ordered- hot and fresh. One query was the ladies waiting on tables- simply because they seemed to be disorganised and consequently the taking of orders was in a sequence unrelated to arrival. We had to ask to place our order, because the waitress who welcomed us then appeared uninterested in taking an order.

Great menu with lots of tempting choices. We had the vegan breakfast and scampi & chips. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty - especially the vegan breakfast. Nicky presented and good value for money

Today we sat outside, delicious breakfast, lovely coffee, very friendly staff and reasonably priced. Great to see it so busy too. No wonder it’s seen off Costa!

We've started eating lunch here at least once a week since working from home. Lovely eggs benedict, really lovely smoothies and their coffees are excellent as well, a lovely place to hang out.

had breakfast here it was nearly 16£, a bit pricy for a drink and breakfast, although i cannot fault the food. Waiting staff a bit confusing and covid safety minimal.

Amazing food and lovely restaurant. We visited here several times during lockdown to collect a takeaway and the food was always amazing. The children loved the milkshakes. After restrictions were lifted we returned to enjoy a meal seated in the restaurant and once again found the food and experience enjoyable. A great little find

We ordered a meal for 4 of us last week and I cannot recommend enough. Amazing food, delivered on time and it was fantastic.

Spot on if you want a good value English Breakfast! Plenty of other things to choose from on the menu but I generally use it for a weekend brunch with my hungry boys.

Came here with my parents and niece after visiting the Roald Dahl museum and am very impressed. They could exploit the tourism of the museum by upping their prices but it’s very reasonable.Food was good quality and the service was extremely efficient. All the staff were so happy and friendly.They also have a takeaway menu if you can’t stay for too long!

This is a lovely bistro cafe - much more than a cafe. Food is delicious and home cooked and service is always with a smile. Great atmosphere - we would highly recommend.

Hot bank holiday weekend exploring a village we didn’t know led, as it does, to a requirement for coffee. Which tends to lead to a request for the menu...fantastic find! Great food. Newbie server was very friendly, soldiering on despite having sliced her thumb just before we arrived. Seemed popular with road cyclists too so definitely one to add to the cycle route!

Popped in for a late lunch. Amazing friendly staff. Food was lovely. Will definitely be back. The waitress was amazing with my girls.

Popped in for the first time in absolutely ages with husband and grown up son on Sunday. We just fancied something light to eat and I'm on a 'no carb' diet. The very friendly waitress was unfazed when I asked for a bacon, avocado and chicken wrap without the wrap and the bacon was just fabulous and it was all perfect. Very efficient and a great menu, friendly staff and my husband had a 'Mr Whippy' style ice cream which he loves and proclaimed this to be one of the best! He then kept our son company by having another ice cream - both with flakes and both were very happy indeed. Will be back soon - great cafe!

An amazing place with very welcoming staff, followed by an excellent service, with a lot of attention to details on order to please you. I went with my boyfriend, we had a very delicious breakfast, the coffee was special. After the breakfast we had a strawberry smoothie which had an unbelievable taste.

Called into this lovely café for lunch and was impressed with the choice on the menu and the attentive staff. However, at one point a staff member lost the plot and had a full on screaming fit at her colleagues. The language was x-rated. I really felt for the other staff members and customers who were in ear shot of this very unprofessional outburst. Management need to sort this kind of behaviour pronto.

Matilda's is a gorgeous cafe that is clean and the food is fresh and always served piping hot. The staff are always friendly and very genuine. I had the chicken, bacon and avocado wrap and it was delicious. Will definitely be back.

We visited and had lunch after going to the Roald Dahl Museum. They had a lovely selection of sandwiches and sweets. The service was quick and friendly. Prices were very affordable. We loved all of the chandeliers. Very close to the train station.

I’ve had a lot of carrot cakes in my life, since it’s my favourite, and this one was very good. So was the coffee. The place just looks a bit more like a snackbar than a tea and sandwich place

It was the only cafe with tables outside on a sunny morning in Great Missenden, but great coffee, nice brownies and a lovely cheese/tomato toastie for lunch at very reasonable prices...less than £2 for an Americano & I noticed bacon sandwiches were under £3.

Matilda's has some strong competition with a Costas next door and Stamp a few doors down but consistently delivers with very friendly staff and good value food and drink. Well worth a visit for brunch an cakes.

Matildas has recently changed owners. What an improvement. Lovely atmosphere. Breakfast very tasty, reasonably priced. Staff all very friendly. The owner makes everyone very welcome.

While visiting the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, my wife an I called into Matilda’s for some scones and a cup of tea. It was at this point that we noticed how the staff were able to turn a negative into a win-win situation. No scones, but a range of fabulously presented home baked cakes were offered as an alternative. And wasn’t the blueberry and butter cream delicious. In fact the service and attention, not to mention their friendliness convinced us to return for lunch. Again the menu had a great range of very English luncheon suggestions which were more than reasonably priced. The service was again genuinely friendly. In fact I would suggest that their are a lot of wait staff that could learn a lot from the professionalism of Matilda’s crew. No wonder that this thriving little business seemed to be supported by locals as much as visitors. As two fairly well travelled Aussies, such true gems are few and far between.

A regular at this great cafe. Service is always superb. Friendly and welcoming staff that always cater to your needs (especially Isobella). Food is great and served with a smile. Would highly recommend!

A walk down to Great Missenden to buy some birthday cards warranted a coffee and cake, so the obvious choice was Matilda's. It says a lot that it can hold its own against Costa next door. Friendly service, good cake and excellent coffee!

Stopped here for a late lunch - busy little cafe. Average prices and average food - service was ok. Portions are a fair size but there was nothing that would make me want to go back there. Sure we could have eaten somewhere else and enjoyed it more

This place looks good. The interior is well laid out and can accommodate up to ,40 people. Unlike some cafés it doesn't feel cramped. The staff are bright and friendly. It's the food that's a disappointment. I've eaten there twice now. My last brunch was fries two burgers and baked beans. The baked beans weren't very nice. Probably a very cheap brand, the sauce was anaemic. Oh yes my egg was a little over cooked and rubbery. The burgers were well cooked on one side but pale on the other. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside but the texture inside felt wrong. Possibly they were using the wrong variety of potatoes. Not recommended. For a drink and cake try the Costa next door.

The staff here are very pleasant and the food is good. I would highly recommend the Oreo milkshake, it is delicious! Great location and it makes a pleasant change from using a café that is part of a huge chain.

We visited as a table of 7, mixture of adults and children, and luckily made a reservation beforehand. The cafe was busy!! We received really attentive service from our waitress who was also really kind and considerate to our children - thank you! The food was good, reasonably priced and arrived quickly, just what we needed with hungry children!

Next to Costa on High Street - resist the temptation to go to Costa and instead pop in to sample tasty food that come soon in generous portions. Omelette and baked potatoes are yummy. Leave some space for the home made cakes! I had the Coffee cake which was my birthday treat after a long walk - nice, moist and flavoursome cake! Recommend this for any time of the day.

It’s not often that one experiences true professionalism and genuine customer care in the catering business but Matilda’s are very lucky, and indeed privileged, to employ the highly efficient and utterly charming Isabel. She made use feel like royalty from the moment we arrived until she gave us a beaming smile and a wave goodbye. My friends and I all enjoyed our breakfasts which were cooked to perfection and arrived in a timely manner.

This small family run cafe/ restaurant is ideal for brunch and lunch , my kids tell me it great for breakfast to.

I visited Matildas last week and left with a huge smile on my face, the staff are so friendly, my main waitress was the girl with curly hair and she was just the loveliest lady. The food was delicious, I had a smashed avocado. It was presented so nicely and tastes great. The prices are so reasonable aswell. This will be my new regular lunch stop!!

First visit - I liked it. At the top of Missenden High Street near the roundabout. Modern looking - big glass frontage with a few tables and chairs outside (although right next to busy road). Inside it's bright and airy - absolutely spotless. Nice friendly staff. We ordered a selection of toasted sandwiches which were all tasty - catered well for my vegan friend for food and milk alternative for Coffee. The Coffee was very good but the fresh Orange was perfect - ideal for a hot day. Have tried the other cafe's in Missenden, would say this is by far the best on all points - mabe a bit more expensive than the others but worth it. Child friendly. Will definitely go back when over that way again.

This is a lovely independent restaurant cafe in Great Missenden, close to Station and handy for Ronald Dahl museum. Great selection of food and drink. The smashed avocado with poached eggs on multi seed toast is delicious!

Had tea and coffee and walnut cake.I agree that cake here is a little dry. Price was average and service was quick.

Waiting for meeting with colleagues, decided to have ‘brunch’so Ordered a very reasonable (£2.80) bacon sarnie. Asked for it on white beead and if it could be toasted - it came up perfect! And though the menu states ’2 rashers of bacon’ it was very well stuffed with lovely well-cooked rashers! Managed to remember to take photo of the 2nd half before wolfing it down! Cannot recommend highly enough - and the friendly staff let me sit around at the table for well over an hour without a whisper of complaint - why anyone still goes to the COSTA next door is beyond me...

The usual breakfast favorites decently prepared. The cake selection was limited. Service was ok. Coffee was watery. Breakfast sandwiches untoasted.

A large group of 24 of us went to Matildas for tea and cake on Saturday after walking over 6 miles from Wendover via Coombe Hill. The staff and service were excellent, there was a good selection of cakes, which were all delicious and a good cup of tea. I would recommend this cafe to anyone visiting Great Missenden, I am sure you will be well looked after - we certainly were.

We went for breakfast here before heading to the Roald Dahl Museum and thought this sounded like the perfect place to start the day. In fairness the service was friendly and the waitress did try to rectify the problems with the food after we complained but all they did was reheat the same bad food and send it back, which quite frankly is a poor show.

We stopped off twice while cycling in the Chilterns. The staff are friendly and pleased to serve. It was nice to be able to sit outside. The soft ice cream was perfect on a hot day.

I visit here regularly on my own and with friends and family. There is always a friendly welcome from the staff who care about the service they offer and the food and drink they provide which is always of excellent quality, variety and price.

I've been using his café/restaurant for a few weeks - you have to wait for your order to be cooked for you and for me its always been a worthwhile wait

Service was rather poor; kept forgetting our drink orders and food arrived one meal at a time, with first breakfast finished by the time the last arrived. Food was tasty when it arrived, just a shame it wasn’t together.

We stopped here to refuel on a cold, rainy day. The service here was quick, the food was as expected and the cafe was warm and relatively comfortable. I'm sure it must be popular with the locals.

I visit Matilda's on a regular basis. I always find the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food is very well presented and of course to a very high standard. The waiting time nominal. Matildas provides a great menu with plenty of choice. I would highly recommend this lovely local cafe. Vanessa White

Great restaurant/ cafe. Attentive staff, delicious food and superb value for money. Only a shame it doesn't open in the evenings. Can't recommend Matilda's enough

Matilda's is just up the road from the Roald Dahl Museum and as we were looking for food we thought we would try it. The food was excellent. Served in good time and without any issues. Tasty too. Kids menu was good and the variety meant something for everyone in the group. The only reason this review is not a 5 is because whilst the waitress was excellent friendly and good throughout the waiter who also served us was sullen and grumpy and appeared to really not be enjoying his job at all. It took the edge off the happiness of the visit for us.

Called here for Sunday brunch. The food and service were great, huge portions, and requested variations were no problem. It is very reasonably priced.

Popped in here with friends after a dog walk in the nearby woodlands. Nice friendly atmosphere. Feel a bit sorry for them having the franchise costa next door but we supported independent businesses and went in here. Had a vanilla milkshake and orange passion fruit smoothie both fairly good. Will have to try for breakfast some time.

Had a late night out the night before,lots to drink etc so a proper english brekkie was needed sunday morning! This i found at Matilda's. Two eggs on toast with back bacon two sausages and halloumi.....ok, almost English! Anyway it was good although the sausages were just typical catering sausages which was fine (cumberland or local would've been better) and the eggs were served over easy. Next time i'll ask for them sunny side up! Tea was good. Place was clean.Staff were friendly and i liked the fact they have an open kitchen........

I stopped here for lunch with 2 young children before visiting the Roald Dahl museum rather than going to the chain coffee shop next door and am really glad I did. It was a busy cafe which meant service was a bit hectic but very friendly. Portions were big, both children (4 and 1) shared a chicken nuggets and chips and I had a halloumi and hummus salad. Food was quick, good quality and inexpensive.

We stopped here to break up a long drive. Matilda's was an unexpected find. Very family friendly, but would also be good for adults without children. Service and drinks both excellent.

This is a lovely family establishment which makes you feel very welcomed. Lovely food, at very reasonable price! My kids love coming here as the staff spoil them and give them lollipops! We are regulars here!

I popped in for a bacon sandwich and asked for it to be lightly cooked and not crispy. When it arrived it was lightly cooked, not crispy and delicious"!

The kids and their mum eat here from time to time, they always say it is very tasty and the staff are great. I was brought home some chicken kebab meal, lots of volume and very scrumptious too.

We've been to Matilda's a few times and service and food is consistently good! It's so refreshing to go somewhere independent in this world of chains and when it's as enjoyable an experience as this is, it's easy to make the decision to go again (and again). Have gone for brunch or just coffee - makes no difference to the level of service (although they may try and persuade you to try some of their cake...!)

Lovely independent local cafe, such a refreshing change from the usual chains! Great value, freshly prepared food, served with a smile! Good selection of cafe food and good-sized portions. Plus good wifi access, very helpful for business users! Will definitely be going back...
