Mash and Barrel in East Devon

Popped in as in area for Sunday lunch. Full roast x2 for £18. Now you may think I bet that was awful. Well it was very good. Hot and tasty. Had a lunch in South East at good restaurant last weekend which was nowhere near as good as this. Thanks. Got to give credit when due. Big portions for price as well. Sat on terrace with great view 👍👍

Came here for lunch I would highly recommend you avoid. The burger looked like someone had taken a bite out of it, the bun was far to big for the burger, as for the fries they were like plastic, if you dropped one in your car, ten years later you find it, it would still look the same as the day you dropped it.

Stayed in the park for 4 nights. Over priced but what you would expect with a captive audience. Big shame the staff were so unhappy, or at least they seemed that way! Go on give us a smile 😁

Food was terrible, spaghetti bolognaise was disgusting would have preferred a ready made meal from the shops. Chips were cold and the staff was rude. Honestly the worst restaurant I've been to. Starter also came out with the main which was nachos but didn’t eat that either as it was not nice at all. Don’t waste your money eating here.

We ordered Lasagne and Chips and a Spaghetti Bolognese. My husband's lasagne looked lovely. He tipped it out of the dish to help it cool down. My Bolognese was dry looking, nit much sauce or meat. It was mixed in with the spaghetti. It tasted horrible. It tasted like what I would imagine cardboard to taste like. Even the smell was terrible. I asked my husband to try it to compare to his tomato based lasagne, just in case it was my taste buds. He said the same. It was definitely NOT like his lasagne. I asked staff if I could exchange it for a lasagne. "Yes certainly no problem!". He even checked the price for if I needed a refund of the difference. It came out extremely quickly. My husband tipped it out to help it cool, like his. There was a serious lack of pasta sheets! It was saucy bolognese with thick melted cheese on top. My husband's lasagne was clearly layered, mines was not. It tasted exactly like the bolognese that I returned. My husband tried it and said the same. I tried his lasagne and it definitely tasted better. I didn't take any photo's of my meals as the meal was paid as a gift. I didn't want to send a photo of mine. I did take a photo of my husband's lasagne, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I don't think we will be back this week. Thank goodness there are other food services on site as this is our first night.

Burger and chips arrived really quickly but was quite cold. Ordered a CHOCOLATE fondue sharing platter and they just replaced the chocolate sauce with some kind of gross strawberry sauce without even mentioning it. So our chocolate fondue had no chocolate. When I complained at the bar the guy had no idea what to do so I just gave up.

The food was great and the service was fast although people were consistently walking past us making a ruckus and the floor had some trash scattered around, but not too much to be considered a mess, overall I’d recommend coming here.

Hate to do negative reviews but here we go. 1st visit to a mash and barrel in 10 years of haven stays. Food was mediocre at best. Chips all over cooked and cold on arrival. Burgers was palatable. Lasagne was nice. Kasui curry was OK. Both had cold chips. Kids meals appeared to be full price though kids eat for a £1 on the menu.....? For £72 for the size of us I'd of expected better food quality. Staff super friendly and helpful. Tables clean and tidy. Lovely atmosphere. But wouldn't use again. That goes for all mash and barrel establishments.

Food is not good at all. Just poor portion sizes and lack of quality. Just as an example, I ordered a chicken burger. It comprised of two lukewarm goujon's that seemed like they'd sat for hours going stale, one leaf of a gem lettuce and some sort of burger sauce... not good

We had a reasonably priced meal that’s not of amazing quality but nice enough. My Mum and myself enjoyed the Cajun chicken pasta and would say this a good choice. A nice setting for families whilst staying if you do not want to venture out. There’s much nicer places to eat though if you look around the area!

Went in for our anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make our night a success and very pleasurable will go again

Visited Mash and Barrel in Devon Cliffs. It was busy and when we ordered we were told it was 50 mins to hour wait. When the food arrived within that time, it was hot and good. Ordered lasagne and hunters chicken, lasagne was lovely but chicken was a little tough. Service was good considering how busy it was.

First of all it’s not a good start when you can see the chefs picking up your food from the trays and placing it on your plates with there bare hands but besides that the breakfast we had today was honestly the worst I’ve ever payed for and everyone on our table agreed. The bacon was barely cooked the sausage was hard and rubbery the beans and mushrooms tasted really cheap and bland and the toast was rock hard and really hard to swallow. I payed £21 nearly for a breakfast and 3 pancakes with 3 bacon which my son left all of as he said they tasted weird so really not impressed and will not be using them again this week which is a massive shame as we a will have to leave camp for a meal that doesn’t consist of junk food now.

Today was relax and not busy. Lovely service from the sisters behind the bar! Beautiful food. £30 for 4 breakfasts and drinks cheap cheap cheap! Will be back

Didn't have high hopes for this place considering it didn't have high reviews. But after coming here 4 times at different times of the day during my time on the holiday site. It was amazing every time. During the busier visit my food did take a while to come so I can see how people will wait for ages during the busier times of the year. But my food was great everytime, and the staff were welcoming and friendly:)

Delicious food. We came here for dinner on the first night of our stay and we weren't disappointed. It was nice and quiet and the food was so tasty. I had the ultimate burger. I must say the pattys were smaller than expected and smaller than the pic but tasty regardless. Because it was quite the vibes were chill too and the kids were able to have a bit more fun as we weren't disturbing anyone. Also recommend the Atlus Ale, The Garlic Bread and the Spag Bol.

Well a family meal and the only words are terrible! Teenagers in charge and service poor. Loads of items not available and over an hour delay when not even busy. Food arrived bits missing, steak cremated beyond belief chicken breast on the ribs I think came from a sparrow. Raised issues with staff and said nothing they could do as no management on duty. Went back in the morning and yep you guessed it no management! Haven reception wouldn’t take up the issue and advised to e mail in. I did two weeks later get a reply, nothing we can do should have raised issue on the night. Replied stating I did and the next day but no one could assist. Spookily never received a response. Safe to say I would suggest never eating here and I wouldn’t even bother staying on the site. Expensive, grotty, vast amount of cannabis smells around the site police attendance two nights out of the four we stayed. Can go to centre parcs for same money and get better quality surrounds, accommodation and service. Shocking don’t touch with a barge pole!

FOOD POISONING Wish I'd have left the food on the plate like my Mrs. Ended up feeling like absolute hell for 3 days. Avoid at all costs get burger king instead.

Went in for Dinner about 7pm and unfortunately most items unavailable. Steaks overcooked and dry, cold chips and unhelpful staff - unfortunately service has not been great!

Spent over £70 on food last night and the mix grill looked nothing like the photos. Tiny bit of steak, 1/4 of a chicken breast that was cold, piece of bacon instead of gammon and the sausage looked like a cooked part sausage, the spag bowl came out cold and with no garlic bread!

Worse than hospital food!! That's the nicest thing I can say.

I was very impressed with the scope of the gluten free menu (non-gluten containing ingredient menu- not fully gluten free as the kitchen uses gluten containing ingredients) Coming to the holiday park I wasn’t expecting to be able to eat anywhere on site so I was extremely happy to see the NGCI menu and then even more impressed with the variety of dishes available. I’ve eaten there 3 times so far this week and have had a different dish each time. One member of staff was even apologetic about how slim the NGCI menu is but I personally don’t agree as I’m used to having only a couple of options to choose from. The food was good, cooked fine, tasted good generally (one lot of mash for little one wasn’t great but overall we’re all happy with it). Time for food being served can vary depending on how busy they are. Overall really happy with the food purely the variety of gluten free meals on offer. And I’m comparing this to the other offerings on site - Burger King, Papa Johns , Cooks fish and chips etc- which don’t have gluten free offerings at all.

Decided to have dinner out as a birthday treat with it being the first day of our holiday. Very disappointed in what we received though. Cold soggy food that had obviously been left a while before being delivered to us! Unfortunately we won’t be eating here again

TERRIBLE TIME : worth less than one star!!! Where to begin… The only positive was that the food came out fairly quick however it was cold.I ordered the ultimate burger and the burger. The bun was burnt dry and cold same with the chips, my partner ordered a spicy pasta dish with no spice and tasted like it was made in a microwave. We had realised once we had started eaten my partner was going to complain. However, we could not find a member of staff anywhere until he had eaten it through gritted teeth. The garlic bread, that came with it was dripping in oil could, not even finish it. No server came over and asked how our meal was and when we had finished our food; they came to take out plates away grabbing things from under my arm not saying a single word to us; they didn’t ask whether we enjoyed our meal or anything.Customer service wise this place needs to consider these are holiday guests so should be treated as if it’s their holiday. It’s standard price as you would expect for a restaurant on site but defiantly not worth it would not recommend at all

Just had a cooked breakfast, wasn't good at all, everything looked / tasted undercooked, missing items, not impressed.

Took over 1 hour for our food to arrive from the time of ordering. I had the mixed grill it was cold missing the egg I had to pay extra for the gammon looked like a burnt slice of luncheon meat. My partner ordered the steak the whole meal was cold room temperature at best. We complained and told we'd be refunded we waited 15 minutes then they brought out fresh meals still missing an egg and pepper sauce which I told them we didn't ask for more just a refund. The manager came over after another 10 minutes tipping the money onto the table and walking away. Bad staff bad food definitely avoid and don't be fooled by the pictures on the menu the actual food you get looks nothing like it.

Microwaved spaghetti Bolognese, which was mostly water and completely tasteless. My kids who eat everything, didn’t even want it. The garlic bread looked stale. Really disappointed.

Meals didnt come out together, majority of mains were cold. Service was next to none existent outside throwing the plates onto the table in the corner. Only saving grace kids meals were warm.

We were given menus and at no time were we advised that certain foods were not available When the food we did order eventually arrived it was actually really poor boil in the bag type food. It was supposed to be a special occasion and the food let us down The noise from the bar was dreadfully loud with a drunken party who were continuously served, singing and shouting and no one spoke to them Not sure what we expected from a holiday camp restaurant but it was like a Wetherspoon’s on a bad night If we had known, we would have gone into town for a decent meal. We would have cooked in our self catering facilities but with a stove which was not fully functional and a dodgy microwave and lack if decent cooking tools, that would have been a challenge Not impressed

Do not go for breakfast here it was awful, fried egg was rubbery and dry, hash brown very greasy and grey in colour, beans and sausage were cold, toast was hard tasted like Stale bread

I recently visited The establishment lovely service, I got seated straight away and was served as I sat down. Staff were very friendly and warm and welcoming on our first day on holiday. My fruit shoot arrived in 2 minutes and then our food order was taken immediately, I had the margherita Pizza, It was warm and fresh out of the oven. Would definitely recommend if you want a cheap and easy meal for the first day of holiday. After reading the bad reviews I still wanted to give this a shot, and I am very glad I did I loved it, the kids loved it, So overall an amazing restaurant. Will be returning.

After reading the reviews we were slightly worried but thought we'd give it a go anyway. Food was nice. Expect Witherspoon's type dining. Prices are great! £49 for 3 adults meals, a kids meal and drinks all round. Service could be a bit better but not bad. Atmosphere is what you'd expect from a holiday park.

Cold mash, veg that looks a week old, and cold. Gravy cold. Second pot of gravy even colder ! They did refund. And left me hungry. Oh and burnt my mouth on the pie !

I ordered the Gluten free chicken burger. I’ve never not been able to eat something before, but this was the worst meal I’ve ever had. The chicken was so hard I couldn’t cut through it & dry beyond dry. It would have a good door stop. I should have read the reviews before ordering. Won’t be eating here again.

Gutted I had to pay £56 for that!!!! Food wasn't good...it arrived cold! We had ordered drinks but food arrived well before the drinks-think were waited about 25 mins for drinks. I ordered a cocktail but just looked like a glass of coke! No enthusiasm with any of the staff. They don't even come around and ask you if all is okay with your meal (like yous usually expect) but I guess that's because they know what the answer will be!

Went yesterday at 17.00 after being seated we waited ages for someone to come to the table to take our orders in the end my partner went to the bar to order. One of our party was a vegetarian so wanted a caeser salad without chicken, we were told this was out of stock, so my partner ran back to our table to ask what else she would like instead? She said tomato and basil soup, Nope that was out of stock too, so again he ran back to table to request another option, vegan nachos, again this was out of stock!! So my partner said what have you actually got in stock for a vegetarian? Tomato and basil pasta, was their response. So they dont have the ingredients for tomato and basil soup but they have it to make pasta. My son requested the same dish and an elderflower and lemonade drink, the bartender said that wasn't on the menu so made a swamp soda instead. It was on the kids drinks menu I checked. When we were seated i asked a few tables down if they had a kids menu as we couldnt find one in the table, the family informed me they were told they don't do kids menu's and you just order off the big menu but ask for a kids portion. I went out searching for the kids menu around the many empty tables around and did track one down. For the whole time we were ther the tables either side of us were piled up with leftover food that werent being cleared away as there isnt enough staff. My 5 year old didnt get given a colouring activity pack like others as we went to the bar to order instead of getting table service. A table opposite by us had a gourmet burger who had to send it back twice as there was nothing gourmet about his burger and it was missing ingredients, in the end he had to disect his burger in front of the waitress and show her what was missing from the burger compaired to what was advertised. She then had to take it back to the kitchen for the 3rd time. One of our tables pom pasta came and by the time he had eaten half of it the rest of the meals came. I think it was a good job we paid at the bar when we ordered as we would of potentially just walked out. We wondered why they kept turning people away and telling them they didn't have space for them when there were many, many empty tables. Its because they dont have the staff or food. Who runs out of nearly all vegetarian options at 5 on a sunday in one of the busiest holiday parks. It really does let devon cliffs down.

Have you ever been to a restaurant and tried to order poached eggs and avocado on toast directly from the menu to be told they’re out of avocado. Fair enough. Can I have poached eggs on toast please. “We’re out of poached eggs, but you can have fried eggs instead”. The chef can’t poach eggs or what? Anyway, we were here last night and 90% of the evening vegetarian menu was out. The waitresses are nice but run off their feet, it’s severely understaffed. Tables don’t really get cleaned either. Stupid restaurant to be honest lol

The outdoor seating area is lovely. Plenty of covered tables. We also shared a few small plates which were ok, not the best standard but nice enough to enjoy with a few drinks. Unfortunately on our visit they was missing quite a few drinks, unable to make aperol sprits etc. The staff are also very helpful and friendly. My main criticism of this place, and what would put me off dining or eating inside is the extremely bizarre smell that over powers the whole venue. From about 3 steps outside you can smell it, it is like a weird cheesy smell, hard to explain but I’ve not quite smelt anything like it in other places.

We have being in here twice on our hoilday and we are a family of 7 we will not be making returns visit has the first night we came for tea and their was a short of food and we waiting a good 20min for drinks when food came their was crispy onions on my daughter sausage and mash when i ask for them not to be. we what the share plates of dessert didnt have the stuff for it so had the ice cream but didnt clear the dirty plates off the table while we was eating our dinner the rude waitiers ask if i want my bill so thought we try breakfast the next day to say i was shocked to a gumpy man at welcome desk then was not told we had 2 order at bar i wanted 2 order my daughter a fruit salad had she not a big eater to be told their delivery order was 2 hour later so she couldn't have it so she had pancakes should have stewberry got blueberry my son want scrambler egg told their was not another egg 2 make scrambled egg when the breakfast came i was shocked it was not the best my son got one egg and on toast. my breakfast had half bacon would say your traditional breakfast was more little a little breakfast the big breakfast was not the best as i work in hospitality myself so i know how hard it can be but their was no need for food to come out like that and their no need for your severe to be rude and make people rush so i think training is need.

Had a burger with pulled pork which was okay. Chips were hit and miss. Half good half overdone. Kids sliders were terrible. The buns were drier than sand inna desert and the burger wasn't much better. The chips were mediocre at best.

Terrible service and cold food. Avoid. Go to the south beach cafe instead.

Ate at the Mash and Barrell last night. We were quickly seated at a table but took ages to order any food or drinks. Finally caught someone's attention and ordered a hunters chicken with salad, chicken tika masala with a naan bread and a blackcurrant and orange squash. Food didn't take too long to co.e (probably about 15 minutes) but we had to chase our drinks as we were still waiting when the food arrived. The tika masala was love and hot however the rice was undercooked and hard in places. The nan bread was lovely. My husband had the hunters chicken and he said it was okay. It was edible but not the best he's had. Once finished we then had a job of getting someone's attention to pay the bill. The waitress who dealt with us (took our order and payment) always had a smile but the 2 guys who bought our food and drinks looked miserable as anything. The place is seriously understaffed especially in the summer holidays. I think there were 2or 3 people taking orders/payment and probably 2 serving the food. Husband suggested they have a timer that goes off 5 minutes after each person is seated so their order could be taken to save waiting around. The food was nicer when we came down in July but I think things would improve if they had more staff as what they have just isn't enough at this time of year.

After reading all the bad reviews we was a bit unsure if we should eat here. But to our surprise the food was good and service was fine. We had the rump steak medium rare and no lie it was the best steak we have eaten it was cooked to perfection.

Very poor food, came out cold and tasted so bland, definitely just frozen food that wasn’t even warmed up properly. Ordered three drinks before the meals and one didn’t turn up until after we had finished eating as the waitress hadn’t ordered it. Prices are way over the top for what they served up to us.

Whilst waiting for our caravan we decided to pop into the mash and barrel, we were going to order food, but the look of the place put us right off. The tables were filthy with left over food, cutlery,dirty glasses left behind from other customers. Our shoes were also sticking to the floors. We decided on just ordering drinks, nearly 6 minutes we had to wait, and there was only another customer in front of us ordering food. Needs one side of the bar for food ordering and the other for drinks. The glasses were also dirty, so we ended up grabbing some straws. On the plus side, a nice roof terrace to take in the sea views.

Literally just got back from Haven in Devon cliffs, I don't really understand the negative reviews. We visited on our 1st night which was Friday, didn't book...but very quickly got seated. Food ordered by the app and arrived very quickly...was hot, presented well and the waitress was very friendly and had banter with my son (didn't catch her name) Clean plates and happy tummys all round. Went back there on Saturday night just for drinks on the terrace in between activities, table service was a bit slower due to being busier but again very friendly service and apologies for the delay. Today being our final day and raining...we entered for breakfast before our 1st activity... again fast service and hot food and drinks. Will definitely dine here again on our next visit to Devon Cliffs. Being dog friendly is always a bonus!

Chips were bland and overcooked. Pigs in blankets were raw and full of fat. Egg comes snotty and the customer service was disgusting. Very rude waitress.

We had booked a table for 6:30pm we got there bang on time and were greeted by what I can only describe as the grumpiest unhappy host/waiter I have ever seen. He asked if we had booked to which we said yes. He then proceeded to walk away from us leaving us at the welcome desk. Confused we decided to follow him. It was lucky we did as it turns out he was showing us to our table. I know, we must be mind readers right? Off he went and we sat at our table and read the menu. 10 minutes went by and no one had been to take our order so one of our group got up to ask the same guy what the procedure was at this particular establishment. It's a good job she did ask because it turns out you need to order your food at the restaurant bar. I know mind readers right? We ordered and 40 minutes later our food arrives. Luckily it was nice but the long wait put us off ordering desert. Like others have said, you are better off eating at the many other places on the site. We won't be back in a hurry.

Food was basically chucked at us by a moody waitress. Peas were cold and had to ask for the tartare sauce and cutlery. Chips soggy and egg overdone. No salt or pepper on the tables. Waited ages, no-one came to offer puddings. Kept waiting, then moody waitress returned saying our table was reserved for someone else so we needed to go. So no seconds for us, then. We hadn't chosen the table, we had been placed there. Another really long wait at the bar for another drink and to pay. Server at bar left half way through serving us once we had paid and was seen serving another queue. Generally rubbish service all round. I wonder how many other people would've left without paying.

No option for zero stars. The worst place I've ever tried to eat or drink from. Day 1, kids in arcade so nipped up for a takeaway coffee. After waiting 15 mins watching staff wonder about I walked out. No coffees. Day 2 tried again. Got served after 20 mins. It seems there is no organisation amongst staff. Ordered the Costa machine coffees which were half full in the cup. Asked for a drinks holder "yes we should have some somewhere" but he just looked at me blankly so I walked off. Made a mistake of coming to 'eat' here in the evening. Loads of the tables were still filthy with staff just walking past them. One of the girls collected glasses but left the rest. Got seated on a table for 2 with 4 of us bumping elbows. Food came out very quickly. I'd bet my bottom dollar it was frozen. Kids pizza was a warmed frozen pizza. My burger had a funny taste to it. Horrible. Then had to wait a further 15 mins at the bar to pay for the meal. Never again. Burger King is nicer. Haven close this place down or sort it out!

Please dont take all the negative feedback to heart as we had our evening meal at the Mash & Barrel on a busy Friday night and it was amazing! Steak cooked to perfection, spare ribs amazing, mixed grill spot on, chicken pasta super! Spent £113 on our meals and it was spot on! Staff lovely and if you order via the QR code its so quick!! Defo recommennd!!!!!

I can only describe my dining experience in Mash and Barrel as absolute chaos. The restaurant is in a good location with lovely views. And has a terrace rooftop with excellent views of the sea. However , everything else is bad. A major staff shortage, staff running round like headless chickens and major waiting times. We waited nearly 5 minutes on the greeting counter. Then once shown to the table. Trying to get a member of staff attention was challenging. Once we finally got someone attention. We ordered. We then waited a fever 30 minutes for are meals. I ordered bangers and mash. The presentation was terrible. It was missing peas. I sent the meal back as it was cold. My partner ordered pasta and she was not happy with her meal either. We did complain at the bar. The bar staff were brilliant and understanding of our issues. They gave us 50% off are bill. From what we seen, we weren’t the only people having trouble with Mash and barrel. If eating on the Haven camp. Would recommend the Burger King, papa johns, the chippy or slim chicken.

Ordered a mixed grill and got served brown chips. The tiny little Steak, Chicken, Peas and Mushrooms were all cold and the half a cooked tomato looked like someone already chewed it. Wife ordered Medium rare steak because she wanted Chicken tika curry but had only vegetable curry version and then when she said ok can I have katsu then was told sorry we don't have any curry? Kids meals came out 15 minutes after ours. How does popcorn chicken and bean take longer than everyone's else's food? Should of looked this place up before we booked and seen it only had 2 stars. Gladly never returning.

Don’t be fooled by 5 star reviews, ordered toast and jam, ordered, got burned cold stale toast no jam no butter. “Go and help yourself” after waiting 10 minutes wait after I flagged it up to the server on food arrival, well done to haven for food ruined for the Haven Everyman everywhere

We had to queue for a drink and food they are under staffed such a shame its a nice place just needs sorting !

Family of three. June 8th for evening meal (our last night) We arrived and waited to be seated. We were taken to our table. We then waited 20 minutes for someone to come over to take our drinks order. In the end we decided to order through the app instead. (In hindsight we should have just walked out at that pont, as the warning signs were there). But through the app we ordered drinks, a sharing starters, and 3 main meals. Our drinks came within 5 minutes. But after another 40 minutes of waiting and asking our starter finally arrived, along with our mains on the same tray. We sent the mains back as didn't want to eat all at the same time. Plus they would have got cold, and there wasn't enough room on the table. After they cleared the starter away we waited another 30 minutes. We called over the waitress and asked if our meals were being cooked again as if they were just being kept warm they'd probably be inedible now. She said they were be cooked again. After waiting another 10 minutes she came back over and told us the chef is refusing to cook our meals again. At this point we should have asked for a refund and walked out. A manager then came over she apologised for the absolutely appalling service we'd received. She said our meals would be ready in 15 minutes, and we were offered some free drinks in way of compensation. Our food arrived and it was average at best. But to add insult to injury, they got our daughters order wrong. We ordered chips and got mash potatoes. And corn on the cob, but received baked beans. This was the perfect end to my worst ever restaurant experience I've ever had. If we visit Devon Cliffs again I would never eat in this poor excuse for a restaurant. Poorly ran, extremely bad communication, and average food. After reading some of the other comments I'm shocked this place is still open. One star is too generous.

Had the pleasure of dining in here twice on my holiday, the food is appalling… just had a breakfast and the bacon was so undercooked a good bet could have got him back it on its feet. When we walked in for breakfast there was still some pizza on the table from the dinner the night before. The service by the staff is shocking and for some reason that do not know where the tables are located so they shout at the top of their voice. A simple table plan would solve this small issue. Won’t be eating here again.

Had a table for 5 booked for 6.45pm, on arrival there wasn’t even a table clean for us to sit at. We waited 5 minutes to be seated which is fine but we weren’t given any menus so had to get them off of another table! We looked at the menu and decided what we would like, went on the app to order it and half of the food wasn’t even available which we weren’t told about! As a result of all of the above we didn’t even order and walked out… complete shambles in there!

If you’re staying on site, don’t bother. Waste of money, poor service, rubbish food. Go to Slim Chickens or even just the supermarket and get a ready meal. Our food was dry, hot and cold at the same time. Avoid avoid avoid!

Staff were very polite but I have never seen a sadder excuse of a breakfast in the 22 years I've been alive on this planet. The sausage and bacon aren't fresh but rather they are frozen and tasted exactly that with how cold the bacon was and how rubbery the sausage was. The breakfast got here suspiciously fast, almost as if we had been served leftovers from the freezer. The coffee was average but I left with a sour taste in my mouth and I honestly left feeling hungrier than I did when I came in. Would not recommend unless you like eating leftovers.

SHUT IT DOWN!!!! I want to know the hygiene rating in this place??? Read the comment from Claire further down! That’s EXACTLY what we have just experienced! Like a 10% version of Weatherspoon! Shocking that Haven are allowing this to continue to be honest! Shame on them! To add there was no soap, card machines didn't work at bar and there is NO STAFF! Go to South Beach Café guys! Literally same prices, cleaner, fresher and all round better experience.

I guess this serves me right for ignoring the shocking reviews and trying to give this place a chance. We arrived five mins early to the 19:30 booking and was sat straight away. We were told a server would be with us to take our order, after half an hour of waiting and seeing the servers go to the same few tables, over and over again, we ended up ordering drinks through the QR code on the table in hopes to get someone to take our food order however that never happened. We couldn’t order the food through the QR code due to allergies, items needing to be removed from dishes and that ordering system not allowing you to remove anything but only add. When I complained at the bar, I was told that “Katie would come take my order right now”, after 15 minutes of watching Katie walk from table to table checking on the same tables they were checking on earlier, we gave up. We left, not that the staff even cared to realise, and got served and handed our food within 4 minutes at Burger King. Food which most likely would’ve been better and a lot cheaper than at this place!

We had the character breakfast here and had booked in advance. We ordered via the Haven serve site which was easy to use and pay. There were 2 families across 2 tables but were sat on adjacent tables. If you ordered at the bar you get your drinks straight away whereas if you order on the app then you wait for them. There was about a 10 min wait until they came which was fine for us. The food came out fairly quickly. I was happy with all the food we had sausage baps, a kids breakfast and toast and it was all good quality, hot and tasty. The character breakfast part was good we met George and he went to each table and had a good interaction with everyone. The kids loved it!!!! The next day we popped back and had another breakfast and coffee so I think that says it all!

Went to the mash and barrel for breakfast whilst visiting for the weekend. It was a fairly quiet weekend, but they weren’t serving poached eggs because ‘the chef didn’t want to slow down service’ we ordered pancakes with fruit and a small breakfast. It took 35 minutes to arrive at the table I dread to think how long poached eggs would have taken! There were a few slices of strawberry served as the fruit with the pancakes and 3 of them were bad. The kids got to meet George the gorilla but if we ever go again to see the kids entertainment we’ll only be having a drink.

Had to go up to bar to order food and drink after getting table, long que, took 25 mins to get past long que. Food was average. Boys had there in bigger group and ended up having refund as food was ruined

Shocking experience - doesn’t have half the items on the menu, 50 minute wait for desserts, food over cooked and bland and service very slow.

Breakfast was so disappointing, would think such a big place like Devon cliffs would have a good onsite restaurant with decent food and friendly staff, took 25 minutes for them to even take our order from our table (we arrived as it opened and the second people seated) tried to order at the bar, but got refused by the rude gentleman in a shirt who was too busy on his phone and got told to sit down as it was table service (must be a manager or supervisor) Would have got a better tastier appealing breakfast from the hot counter in the on-site shops.

I don't often leave negative comments, I would rather just not leave a review, but this place is something else. Firstly let me say the staff are friendly and polite, but that's where it ends. We as a family of 6 ordered dinner and the food was terrible. Burgers overcooked, chicken hard as stone, chips bland and over cooked. Drinks, watered down coke and stale beer, we sent back a total of 12 drinks. Deserts came out different to the menu with no forward explanation. When we confronted the manager, he didn't seem to see anything wrong. He did however agree we should have been told about the lack of ingredients and the replacements prior to ordering ,so agreed to take some drinks off the bill. For a restaurant that has such bad reviews, you would think they would be actively trying to make things right, but they don't seem to care, after all once your on the park, your limited for choices. Come to pay and there is only 1 person at the bar taking payments...so waited 15minutes while a guy behind the other till just watched My opinion, go to burger king....

Stayed march 2023, went for breakfast for when restaurant opened we were the 3rd people to order and the food took over 40mins to arrive. Food was very low quality. Not a nice meal at all

Freezing cold carvery, paid for 9 people. Dry chicken wings 3 people behind the bar was ignored for 10 minutes while they were talking and cleaning. Mash and barrel have let down haven

Worse place we have ever had food. It would of been quicker to drive home for 3 hrs get our food. 1hr and 30 mins and still waiting

26/06/2022- 3 of us went 2 of us got chicken bacon burger then one got a carvery my burger bun was falling apart and I ate it then The last 5 days of the holiday I was really ill then the carvery we ask for beef but they gave gammon they gave 1 potatoes a few peas 1 small Yorkshire pudding and a few carrots and I was 17 so I’m aloud a pint with my meal but they said that they don’t do that but when we went Weymouth they let me when I was 16 and having a meal

Went for breakfast on our last day at Devon cliffs before our sons had to get the train home. Waited over an hour for food, no explanation or apology for the wait. After waiting an hour i asked a member of staff how much longer our food would be, she said it was just coming now. 15 minutes later it arrived and it certainly wasn't worth waiting for. The scrambled egg was like rubber and cold, my sons large breakfast was nearly cold and because we waited so long he only had 10 minutes to eat it before he had to leave to get the train. If we had had time to complain we certainly would have. Was a complete waste of money and spoilt our last couple of hours of our holiday. Certainly wouldn't come to mash and barrel again!!!!

Dined 3 times at this restaurant while on a week's stay at the park. First meal was decent, we chose from the two for £15 evening meals. 10oz rump steak, with the trimmings, meat cooked as ordered and arrived within 30 minutes even though the restaurant was busy. Second meal again was an evening meal, waited near enough an hour after ordering the ultimate burger and a cajun chicken pasta dish. From where we were seated we could see the kitchen preparing meals. Our meals were placed under the "hot" lamps waiting delivery and sat there for 20 minutes before being brought to the table. The meals were cold, so headed straight to the kitchen and returned. Fresh dishes arrived withing 5 minutes of the complaint. The third meal was a full 3nglish breakfast with a tea. No saucer or side plate with the drink to dispose of the teabag. Food again on the cold side and pieces of toast that were also cold and hard..maybe these dishes were prepared and left to cool for too long also. Waiting staff are hit and miss, some friendly, helpful and chatty with the children. Some aren't interested at all. Even showing you to a seat seems too much for them, twice we asked for a window seat for the view while we eat, ignored both times. Overall the 1 star is for the 2 for £15 meal offer. Staff, food prep and service times definitely need to improve

Poor service, waiting time was abysmal, waiting 50 minutes for food to turn up, and disappointed by how cold the food was. Waited 15 minutes to even be thought about, and drinks took 30 minutes to come to our table. Avoid. Would mark score lower if could.

We stayed for 10 days and visited Mash&Barrel 5 times haha! We absolutely loved our time here. The first time was so enjoyable we just kept returning. Staff remembered us each time and had a lovely chat with us. Food was phenomenal (the steak pie is to die for!) Breakfast was good also. Huge mugs of tea! Great work by all the team! Will see you next year!

Everything in Devon Cliffs was great except food at this place. Just not worth the money or time. Time to step up and start cooking from scratch, fresh and tasty food. Not the frozen stuff.

Staff were nice and friendly. But they can’t cook. Took them 3 attempts at doing a pepperoni pizza. First 2 times the base was still doughy/uncooked. Then the pasta meatball’s we had send it back 3 times and on the 4th wasn’t to bad. First one came out cold the second one again was cold and the third had a hair in. The kids slider we got we cold and then they re done them but were under cooked (pink inside )

Food is tasty, although customer service is poor. Easier to go up to the bar and order food there, rather than table service, as you'll most likely get ignored for 40 minutes. They have good deals on at various times throughout the week.

It's very over priced for what is at best distinctly average food. Staff were friendly though

Wasn't even slightly busy but still took ages to get served. Took 40 minutes for our food to arrive, for 20 of those minutes I watched my burger just sat on the pass while the rest of my family's food was being prepared. When it eventually arrived it was obviously dryed out and no longer hot, also not what I ordered in the first place. Ate it anyway as we'd waited so long.

Went out of season, so eating area was not very busy, drinks ordered and arrived sharpish, food also arrived fast, however the food was underwhelming to say the least, the wife ordered a ceaser salad, that when arrived consisted of lettuce and crotons, with a ceaser dressing. I ordered a chicken tikka masala, which contained two small pieces of chicken. The waitress that served us was pleasent enough.

The restaurant was only half full. We booked a table for 4 for our last night. The starters arrived quickly . We had breaded mushrooms which were nice but the ribs were dry and tough. but then the wait for the main meal was 40 mins. 3 meals arrived together but the 4th didn't come for another 8 minutes .which spoiled the meal for us all to be honest. We had to ask about it twice. The next table had waited over half an hour for their meal and were equally unimpressed. The food seemed to be too slow coming out of the kitchen. They definitely need another chef in there.We paid £128 for 4 of us with drinks and it wasn't an enjoyable experience.

Horrible customer service. We pop in there in our 1st day, after 3 hours driving, we're looking forward fir something nice to eat. My partner's burger was overcooked. I must say was burn. We tried to have a go again on lunch time even worse. Rude staff. We end up leaving the place. Mash and Barrel at Haven Devon Cliffs, if I could give 0 star I would.

Possibly the worst holiday bar/restaurant this side of the Arctic. Went with my 6 year old to get some lunch. There was a 50 minute wait for food. Despite the restaurant being half empty. I asked front of house where all the staff were and why it was such a wait and she just shrugged her shoulders. I don't think they realise that people pay good money to holiday with Haven. I'm also pretty sure they aren't that disinterested when it comes to collecting their site fees. Anyway, we opted to head off site and walk down to the village for lunch, but booked in for breakfast the following day thinking there wouldn't be an issue. How silly of me to think so. The restaurant was half-empty but we had to wait 40 minutes for our food by which time our daughter was fed up and hungry. It also - if you'll excuse the pun - ate into our morning plans. No explanation or apology given. Also, No gluten free bread (though they sell it on the site shop, so go figure). If you read through the review you'll see a consistent picture quickly emerges. The good news is Littleham village is just off site. There's a decent family friendly pub there called The Clinton Arms which I'd recommend. Good food, good selection of drinks, clean and spacious and good service.
