Mash and Barrel in Flintshire

Where to start… went to order food, had about 80% of the menu unavailable. When the food arrived it was stone cold, fish was as thin as paper and like rubber with a lot of grease. Both kids meals arrived WRONG & felt like we was sitting outside it was that cold inside there to be told the heating is broken. Asked for a refund and refused the food to then wait another 40 minutes while the “manager” decided to clean tables instead. So again had to go chase him up. For him to then take another 20 minutes to process a refund as he had no clue how to use the till. Also no cutlery available so had to ask for them to get it out of a dirty cutlery holder soaked in what ever crap was there to then wipe them dry with a dirty tissue. Honestly avoid this place at all costs wouldn’t even invite a homeless family for a free meal here. Total time in the restaurant about 2 hours and left without eating. If you want to spend the night on the toilet and waste your money I highly recommend this place

Over priced, small portions, and didn't have half of the things offered such as wafers for the ice cream and candy floss for the kids mocktail, but still served us the options before telling us they didn't have them.

We are here twice during our holiday. Ordered through the app both times. The first time was an evening meal and they brought the starters and mains together. The second time was breakfast and I ordered scrambled eggs with it. What arrived was not fit for human consumption. The eggs were grey, rubbery and just disgusting. The rest of the breakfast was fine but the eggs were so off putting. I did get an apology at the end !!

The service was excellent, and then food was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the place was very dog-friendly.

Tried to buy gluten-free chips at the Cook's fish and chip shop but the oil was contaminated. Went to the Mash and Barrel to ask if they did take-away, but they don't. They asked in the kitchen and we came back with 2 portions of delicious cheesy chips. How's that for amazing service?

Absolutely horrific! Came at 5:50pm and didn’t get served for another 40 minutes. Food didn’t come until 8pm. Had us waiting for about 10 years. Awful services, DONT NOT RECOMMEND! Go chopsticks or Burger King honestly.

We were booked in at 6pm for a family of Eleven, was seated in a really cramped table between two other tables with no room between chairs. Had to wait 40 minutes before order was taken, starters and children’s meals came 40 minutes later, children’s meals were cold. It took two hours for mains to arrive. Was apologised to but not impressed.

If I could give this a zero stars I would. Attended for my Dads 60th Birthday which was supposed to be a special occasion, which was completely ruined. It took nearly an hour to have our menu choices taken of which at least over 50% of the menu was unavailable, but we all managed to choose something in the end. We had 2 toddlers with our party that were also eating with us and ordered children’s meals, after an hour we had to ask where the starters were as well as the children’s meals that were being served with them. They were eventually served and were brought to the table so cold that we had to mentioned it to the waitress who had an extremely bad attitude and was so rude to us and then proceeded to ask if we expected a children’s hot meal to actually be hot?!!!! This was unacceptable in itself however things did not get better! After 2 hours of waiting we still had not received our main meals so asked to speak to a manager. He did say sorry and went to find the meals that were brought out quickly however some of these were also cold and missing some elements of them which then said was the reason for the delay?! The meals that were cold were taken back and then nuked in a microwave and reserved. The tables were not cleared throughout the evening and were dirty before we even started, drinks orders were taking 40 mins to arrive it was literally the worst ever place to have a celebration and would highly discourage anyone booking this place even for a meal. The only thing they were handy at all night was taking payment for the meal. I am so disappointed that my Dad has missed out on a special meal with family due to the incompetency and rudeness of staff. As I said first off if I could award ZERO stars I WOULD!! Avoid at all costs!

Duty manager dealt with complaints (service, staff inexperience(?), communication, lack of satisfaction with one meal) with professionalism & courtesy. Will return as staying on site but have cancelled some planned reservations. Glitches can happen & hope for better next time. Well done duty manager!

No fruit salad, no tea, and we came twice before and basically the same thing. The food looked like it was put on the plate from someone’s leftover meal, as one of the bowls of chips had curry and rice on it, and tasted like it had been warmed up. We had to wait ages to be served, and there was so much missing when it came. A huge disappointment to a good holiday

We had a table for 5 booked at 6:30. We were seated promptly and told that it was table service and a server would be with us shortly. We waited for around 20 mins and still hadn't been seen, so we used the app advertised on table to order food and drinks. 30 mins after ordering the drinks finally arrived. We waited another 30 mins and still no sign of the food, the table next to us received there food well over an hour after ordering and straight away complained it was cold, chips clearly undercooked in dirty oil as they had black bits all over, other food looked overcooked. This didn't fill us with much hope, but we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. A further 10 mins passed (70 mins since we ordered, 110 mins since we were seated) and the food still hadn't arrived. By this point we had had enough so went to the bar and asked for a refund. The shift leader was very apologetic and promptly sorted this out. I explained that firstly we were told it was table service and secondly that we weren't informed of any wait on food. If you know there's over an hour, you need to be making people aware of this before they're seated. The place was in carnage, every empty table was stacked with glasses and plates. The table next to us that left hadn't been cleared when we left almost 30 mins later. Appeared to be very few staff members, surely a caravan park of this stature should be prepared and staffed to accommodate the main pub/food outlet on site. Safe to say, we won't return next time we're on the park. Very disappointing. 3 adults and 2 kids left very hungry and fed up almost 2 hours after arriving.

The booking process was a bit harder than expected, as we were a group of 9, and you could only book up to 8 people. There was no number to call, so we had to physically visit the venue to arrange an appointment for later that evening. I was waiting 5 minutes whilst servers were just watching me - it really wasn’t busy. Thankfully two young servers came and booked us in - great! Upon arriving we were seated to a nice clean table in the corner of the restaurant. All seemed great, we ordered drinks and food and stared to wait. And wait, and wait! An hour passed, and still no food or communication from staff. We asked where our food was, and it was brought out instantly, but as it had taken so long, we had run out of drinks, so ordered drinks with the same server, which we didn’t receive until later (and some of us had finished our meals) The kids meals were fine (we had 4, which was 2 x stir fry noodles, 1 mini burgers & 1 quorn dino nuggets) the kids enjoyed them. The adult meals weren’t so good, unfortunately! We ordered hunters chicken, Cajun spicy pasta (which was cold), Bone Pile with Peppercorn Sauce - the ribs were over cooked, so had a mushy texture and the peppercorn sauce was literally black peppercorns in a sauce. It was beyond peppery and not enjoyable. We also ordered a gluten free bone pile with cheesy chips, which again the ribs were over cooked and the cheese came in a separate bowl, so wasn’t melted. This really ruined the meal because my son is coeliac and autistic, so was unable to eat the meal due to the texture and it being “wrong” as the cheese wasn’t melted on the chips. In addition to this, we also ordered a mixed grill and paid extra for a sirloin steak, dianne sauce and an egg. The steak was quite fatty, which cannot always be helped, but the meal was missing the mushrooms and the onion rings. What was already a not enjoyable meal was then made worse trying to get the bill. That was so much hard work in its self and when we eventually managed to get it and asked to pay by card the server went to get the card machine and then walked off in the other direction. I think I would only re-attend for drinks or kids meals only, if at all.

Booked a table for our last night after a week's stay at Presthaven, got there, no tables, so we were shown to one with dirty plates and cutlery and an absolutely filthy floor underneath and had to wait for it to be cleared. They didn't even clean the food off the floor. The waitress was muttering something to which we couldn't hear. We said that we were not going to sit there. They only had two other tables so we took those and sat separately as we were a party of 7. After realising that my arms were sticking to the disgusting table and the food we wanted to order not being available, we walked out and drove round trying to find something else. Being 7.30pm on a Friday evening, we were out of luck so ended up eating at a service station

Stayed for a week, used the restaurant on the first night and it was just awful. Waitress sat us down and said someone will be over shortly to take your order. 15 mins later we decide to order on the app as it seemed no one was coming over. Ordered food and drink, after another 15 mins we still had no drinks, I walked over to a waitress eating chips at a podium and asked how long our drinks would be. She walked over to the bar where the drinks were sat waiting. Coffee was now cold. Another 10 minutes go by and the food arrives, lasagne was tasteless mush, the steak and ale pie was ok but the mash and veg was cold and hard, spaghetti bolognaise was watery and flavourless, fish fingers and chips, the chips were a strange 2 tone colour like they’d been fried a different times. Needless to say none of the meals were eaten. Asked a passing waitress if we could speak to someone, a manager came over who simply said do you want fresh food or a refund. Refund taken and pizza ordered on the way home. Really disappointing as the staff some uninterested and a can’t be bothered culture seems to exist.

Need to clean your fryers out properly. Also get some staff who actually care about what's going on in the restaurant they "work" at. There are some good offers on to make up for the overpriced menu but as nobody from the kitchen staff tobthe floor staff cares about standards I'll avoid this place from now on.

I can honestly say the service was very disappointing. Our order was placed and we waited and waited for our meals and drinks to arrive. After 35 mins and a polite request as to where they where the drinks order arrived - but it wasn't what we ordered. We asked again about the food and we were told it will be another 10. Fair enough some food arrived at the table. We were told one meal would be brought out in a minute. However we were waiting on two meals. When asked about the other meal we were told that they would have to check the order. By this time we had had enough after 50+ minutes we still weren't able to have our meal together. To add insult to injury tables were being served who had sat down after us. Needless to say we didn't wait any longer. They certainly need to get their act together. It wasn't full and the staff couldn't cope.

we was on a weekend away we visited the mash and barrel a couple of times, we have visited this place a few times over the years in my honest opinion it has gone down hill the food isnt as good as it use to be some of the staff need to learn customer service skills, i will never go back again on one occassion we went to the bar a young female member of bar staff asked what drink we wanted i told her we wont be a min. as we was still deciding she muttered im still waiting.

Went with my husband and three children for our evening meal. The food on the whole was nice but the steak my husband had was very fatty so most of it was left. I did tell the team leader when paying but no comment was made.

The food is below average, we got the mixed grill and the steak had so much fat it wasn't edible. Staff seemed like they couldn't be bothered. Twice we had to ask for cutlery to be changed as it was dirty.

I try to be fair with my reviews on all the Mash and Barrel places we visit when using Haven camps, all have been superb and to be fair the food here once again looked superb BUT, there is, as with the others lovely outdoor seating areas for people with dogs, with a small picket fence around it which we could easily have stepped over as people were indeed doing but no, doing it by the book we asked, as directed on the gates for the door staff of the main complex to open the gate to let us in for a meal so we could later return to our caravan to chill, lol, REFUSED entry as we had not paid 30 POUNDS EACH for an entertainment band, despite explaining we do not use the main ents complex and just the mash for food, which is OUTSIDE the complex, we were still denied access, what a stupid rule, penalising holidaymakers who do not want the full ents package. Even the staff in the mash next morning stated they were disgusted. Ah well,it was thier loss we ate at a fabulous pub just outside the camp, The Beachcomber, separate review lol greatr food

We have visited here on previous trips and never had cause to complain but not so good this visit. When we arrived there was a sign to wait to be seated and no one came to seat us. Eventually we just sat ourselves down and watched the waiter and waitress take a couple of orders around us. We had to ask for menus which the waitress fetched for us and a few minutes went by and we saw her tell the young waiter we had menus so we assumed he would take our order. Wrong, he helped seat 3 large groups and fussed around them like they were royalty, probably private owners. Eventually we caught the attention of the waitress who was surprised our order hadn't been taken and she called Stephen over to tell him , to which he rudely told her "you gave them menus , you serve them" , we now felt very welcome . Food arrived fairly promptly and was ok . Staying for two weeks but won't be going back of rather travel out than experience that again.

Visited here for dinner, service at bar was slow although once ordered the food came relatively quickly. The food was ok but nothing special. There are lots of tables but many of them weren’t cleared although it wasn’t that busy.

Food was disgusting and overpriced. All the highchairs were extremely dirty and none of the waiting staff offered to clean one, had to have my toddler eat a whole meal from my lap! Staff were miserable! Wouldn’t be in a hurry to return here!

Eat here instead of the Pizza place and burger bar, much nicer meals and more affordable too, nice atmosphere and lovely staff, especially Tim and his wife on the bar, such a good laugh.

Went in here at the weekend with our disabled brother. He has a wheel chair and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate his needs. They made a real fuss in the nicest possible way. One lady her name was Becky is worth her weight in gold, I think she was a manageress and I must say a true credit to the company. Thank you again to all the staff we will definitely be back.

So me and my boyfriend came here for our first visit for a break the first time we went was a Saturday very busy and 40 mins waiting time.. about an hour went by and we got told there was no chicken tikka which is what I ordered and then couple minutes later it turned up after being told by what looked like the manager then she walked off and let the other waitress deal with it.... we went in there for a second time sign said that take a seat and we do the rest so we did, half an hour went by and no one came up and asked us what we wanted to order or even drinks... so we decided to leave and my boyfriend went to complain to the manager and he said because we were seated at the top by the bar that we would have to go and order at the bar... but we were never told this.... 3 waiters kept walking by and ignoring us would have been nice for one of them to tell us this is what we had to do.... discusted and glad to be home

I suppose they get away with it because there on a site and can charge what they want but £55 for the meals and 2 pints and be disappointed isn't acceptable

This restuarant is open all day on Presthaven Sands.

We visited whilst staying at the Haven caravan site. We visited on a Sunday at lunch time and expected it to be very busy but we found a table and service was great.
