I order from here regularly and as someone why cooks for a living I can’t fault the food. Freshly cooked and delicious each time. The majority of negative reviews this place gets seems to be because of delivery issues. The food itself is excellent.

Went with expectation of an authentic Indian food experience as per some advice from local friends. only those who haven't eaten real Indian food wud tell this is authentic..service also wasn't upto mark..won't come back for sure

Won’t be ordering from here again - whatever you do, don’t choose delivery. Ordered at 6.30pm, given an expected delivery time of 7.45-8pm, had a notification that it was on the way at 8.30pm but ended up with no food until 10.30pm. Called several times only to be lied to about ‘busy roads’, then they finally admitted at 10pm that my order was missing and said I would have a fresh one by 10.15. I asked to cancel and have the order refunded, they said no and offered zero compensation. Terrible customer service and a ruined evening.

Absolutely terrible, 4 hours to deliver 4 dishes. Ordered at 6pm was told it was going to be 1hr and we finally got our order at 9:20pm. Disgraceful and to top it off it was the worst Indian takeaway we have ever had. Lamb madras was just chucks of fat and rice was sweet. I can't stress enough how bad the hole experience was from start to finish. Order at your own risk....

Do not order from here. I ordered delivery and was told I'd have to wait an hour and a half. For a Wednesday too long. When it did not arrive I called a rude lady who spoke hardly any English who I've no idea what she said. I food turned up 3 hours and 20 minutes later. Missing one curry shocking!!!!!

expensive chicken bryani (overpriced) after jummah prayer.hardly any chicken tasteless, too hot and to much colour than anything else. i gave £10 for a take of £7.00 unfortunately he kept the £3.00 change and he didnot even bother to give the change hence i would like my £3.00 back from that gentle man please.

I ordered at 4.30pm, delivery stated a time close to two hours! Time passed, I called and was told 10 mins (he sounded frustrated with me for having the audacity to check if my food was coming 🤷‍♀️). I waited another hour before calling again! This time the staff were screaming at one another, obviously trying to pass blame onto one another! I was asked my address erm …6/7 times, along with the order number! The screaming continued and I hung up, accepting after four hours I’m going hungry tonight! Never again!!! Choose to pay in cash people…….least I haven’t the headache of trying to get that back!!

We have used this as our local takeaway for many years but things seem to have changed. Maybe the chef, the recipes or the ingredients but whatever it is its a huge mistake. The chicken korma was dreadful, it looked awful and tasted worse, it was watery and tasted like off milk. The sag aloo was a mixture of cooked and undercooked potatoes and very dry........ My dinner ended up in the bin. We will not be returning

The food is not the same as it was before but still overpriced, i’ve been visiting Masala Gate for almost 25 years now, never had a problem until this day which is such a shame as it was my favorite Indian. Bring it back.

We purchased butter chicken, tikka masala, korma chicken and byriani chicken. Byriani was good. Tikka and korma had too much sugar and butter chicken was made with melted cheese instead of butter. Needs getting back to basics .

The food was a great takeaway. We ordered the chicken biriyani and chicken jalfrezi and naan. It was absolutely delicious. Was warm when it arrived and was on time. Would highly recommend from a south Asian themselves!!

Extremely overpriced and the curry I had tasted absolutely awful. It was as though they’d bought a packet of powdered cheese sauce from the shop and added some mild spice to it. Will never order from here again. The first few times I ate here, the food was lovely; I have since re-ordered from here a couple of times over the last year and have been left disappointed each time.

The worst online delivery experience ever. I think they lie about calling u and u havent picked the call to charge u extra for delivery. Very rude staff. I called to verify when my arrived would arrive. They tell me, "Oh u didnt pick ur phone. Come and pick from the restaurant." If I could come, I wouldnt order online. Now, I read the review and see that many people had the same experience as me. It will be my first and last time ordering from this restaurant. I received my order after paying extra again. I dont recommend the food as well.

Masala gate was my most favourite Indian restaurant, when I moved to Canterbury I was so pleased to have found an Indian to my taste, I raved to everyone about it. But things have changed, and I have given it 3 more tries before I need to look for somewhere else. The price has gone up considerably but unfortunately the standards have dropped, not sure if they have changed their chef, but it's really not good. We had a prawn korma, which should be nice and creamy, well it was like water, and the prawns were as big as a 5p piece, or as small. So overall we are just disappointed that something that was so good is now mediocre at best. Such a shame.

Love the naans here as they are very soft and fluffy. They make very good curry and can make it super spicy. Yummmm

Staff are always so lovely and the chefs are so lovely especially shiraz who gave us a complimentary daal . One of the best places to eat in Canterbury . I recommend their samosas and lamb madras absolutely amazing

What a scam. We received our delivery last night which was ordered online. When we went to use a £5 voucher we received in the post the delivery guy just shook his head and chuckled mockingly. "Phone orders only." It's a shame as the curry was absolutely amazing, but their marketing leaves a lot to be desired. To ask customers to pay in cash - which is bizarre in the year 2022 - and then refuse a seemingly legitimate voucher from their business just reeks of a dodgy business. I won't be ordering again.

Worst management service by the restaurant. I just called them and asked if they are open. The person who answered the call said we are not open 24/7 we are closed such a jerk he is, he could answer sorry we are closed instead. poor service

Awful. The food came late, which I could forgive. But it has that horrible sugary taste that you sometimes get with downmarket Indian food and isnt spicy at all. Feels like im eating a desert. Really disappointing

We’ve ordered from the Masala Gate a few times now and normally order to collect. The food has always been ready on time, it’s always been fresh and hot and the food tastes amazing. This is one of the best takeaways we’ve used when it comes to food and flavour and myself and my group of friends have all said the same. Bonus is when you arrive you can see the entire kitchen and food being cooked and it’s always clean and tidy. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a decent Indian take away, we’ve tried not in Canterbury and this one wins every time we go back. This will prob our permanent go to now.

I use this takeaway quite a lot, but I have found it a bit hit and miss recently. The chicken korma is more like three pieces of chicken floating in korma soup. The garlic chilli chicken is frequently undercooked, and hard to cut as a result. This is also dangerous. The vegetable curry is so thin, and the vegetables have been shredded so tiny, that it’s more like soup. To be honest, it doesn’t touch the sides, and feels like I haven’t eaten it. When there are a good few other Indian takeaways in the area, I do think that masala gate need to try harder in order to keep custom. I feel like it might be time for me to try a different restaurant.

Ordered take away from Masala gate via Deliveroo for the first time. Their delivery was very fast, which was good. However, they forgot the basmati rice, which I had to phone to get them to deliver, to their credit they sent the rice very quickly. The chicken samosas were fantastic and the garlic naan was also good. Their Pilau Basmati rice was cooked very well and very tasty. So why only two stars. For the curry I ordered a Butter Chicken Tikka, which is one of my favorites and usually the curry of choice I make at home. Butter Chicken Tikka Masala is a mild dish, made with either cream or yogurt. While it's not suppose to be spicy hot, there should usually be the distinctive flavours of traditional Indian cumin, tumeric, garam masala, etc. Unfortunately, Masala gates curry was so overwhelming sweet, these flavours are completely lost. When I say sweet, I mean desert levels of sweet, like they've added sugar, syrup to the curry sauce. It really takes you back, when you eat what is technically suppose to be a mild, mostly savoury, curry and can't taste any spices. Sure, the cream should add a degree of sweetness, but honestly the dish is closer to a bizarre curry style dessert. Overall very disappointed, as the sweetness, or the degree of sweetness, completely ruined the dish for me. I'm sure there are people who will enjoy this, but out of all the butter chicken tika masala curries I've had at many Indian restaurants throughout the UK, this is certainly the oddest.

Just had the best takeaway curry We’ve ever had. Bought curry for the family, I had the vindaloo nice and hot but very tasty my wife had the garlic chicken it was delicious and the boys had biryani and the standard chicken curry. Couldn’t be any happier. The chap at front of shop is an absolute gentleman as well.

Was utterly disappointed with our food, had to heat it up to attempt to make it edible. Will definitely not go there again, first and last time. Don't waste your money.

Amazing place!! Their bread was most delicious bread I've ever eaten.. Like crisps bread.. Can't remember its name.. Defo, you should go.. I assume their products are halal as well.. Couldn't see the license but researched their suppliers.. Would be better having halal certificate to show the Muslim clients who came from outside..

Superb. Love the huge range for vegetarians. Try the veg rogan: fragrant and tasty. Must mention the exceptional onion bhajis (onion-packed, delicate, beautifully fried balls of deliciousness) and the fantastic naan. Our first order, and this is our new regular Indian t/a. And service brilliant too. Great Canterbury restaurant. Thank you for our lovely supper!

We waited the best part of two hours for our order from masala gate placed through Deliveroo. Phoned for an update, left on hold and then they hung up. As we’d waited so long my husband went to collect it. The food tasted good but was lukewarm. A very frustrating experience.

Probably the worst curry we've ever ordered. The vegan korma, more expensive as it was in the 'special' menu, was basically coconut milk and potatoes. The saag aloo was bland and the aubergine bhaji just tasted of salt, and to top it off we received chicken samosas instead of vegetable samosas. When we phoned to complain they offered free samosas with our next order. Needless to say we won't be ordering again.

Ordered chicken tikka masala and quite disappointed. I've had many before elsewhere so I know what it should be. I hope it was one off but it will take me a while to go there again...

I ordered takeaways a couple of times, each time trying something different, and I was absolutely satisfied each time. Delicious food and reasonable price.

Ordered food via JustEat, half of the food showed up and of the half that showed up, it was all stone cold. I contacted JustEat for a refund however they said they can’t process it due to Masala Gate not cooperating with them. I called Masala Gate and was met by a very unpleasant worker who was shouting at me down the phone saying they haven't done anything wrong and exclaiming I’m in the wrong. Don’t order from this terrible “restaurant” and look elsewhere around Canterbury

Ordered take away last night. Got to be one of the best curries we’ve had. Really tasty and well cooked.

We had 3 different meals one of which they altered to suit. I have to say hand on heart they were the best takeaways we have had in a long time.. The place is spotless and the service first class

DO NOT USE Ordered once and very happy so decided to reorder and had the following experience - Food ordered at approx. 7:15PM, food was estimated to arrive at approx 20:20, it eventually arrived, cold, at 9:14 after having being told it would be ‘10 minutes’ on 2 occasions when we called for an update. To make matters worse one of the curries had a clump of hair in it, which, frankly, given the current circumstances considering the pandemic is concerning to say the least. I have added a picture of the hair (which isn’t the clearest,) but note the black circle to the left of the crown design on the cup, that is a clump joining two strands of hair together.) We called for a refund, and were advised that although they would not issue a refund we should call back in future for a replacement meal to be delivered. Against my better judgment I agreed to this (considering the previous order had arrived cold with a hair in it,) but we did agree as the time prior to this was very good. We then called for the replacement meal, were advised that no record was kept of this and that they were therefore unable to honour it until the manager who has sanctioned the replacement meal was in the restaurant (which he wasn’t.) The eventual solution was to contact Just Eat for a refund who have now asked for the below picture to be provided to them so that they can investigate this directly with the restaurant. Considering that the meal cost £26.15, arrived cold after almost 2 hours with hair in it, I was then promised a replacement meal of which no record was kept and I was then refused as the person that answered the phone accused me of asking for ‘free food’ I would strongly urge anyone against using this restaurant - ever.

We have had food from here before but not for a few years. Didn’t fancy cooking tonight (Thursday) so ordered from their leaflet which was dropped in the letter box that morning. Took an instant fancy to the new chicken and veg biryani, chana masala, Bombay aloo, and of course the poppadums. Was told it’d be an hour but turned up after only 25 mins. The food was delicious, not greasy, delicately tasty and good value for two people, less than £20. Much recommended.

Just ordered takeaway from Masala Gate for the first time and I was so pleased! Their chicken tikka masala rivals any I've had in London or New York. The pilau rice was fluffy. The chicken was tender and the sauce was perfect. It was a generous portion and it was delivered fast and still piping hot. Now I can't wait to try the rest of Masala Gate's menu!

Third time I’ve had food from masala gate now and every time it’s been spectacular. Always arrives piping hot, amazing flavours and they cater for vegan and gluten free! Definitely a must try if you haven’t already.

Only gave them one star because zero wasn’t an option! Ordered a delivery which had missing items, when questioning them over the phone, he became loud and aggressive and I felt intimidated. When adding up the price of all our items we were outraged to find out we were charged more than what was delivered. Avoid this like the coronavirus.

There are Indian takeaways and then there are real Indian takeaways but this by far is the Indian of Indian takeaways, staff are just great, and if its not on the menu and they can do it they just do it no questions asked, food always hot and cooked to perfection with large portions and great value for money

Foods good but a few gripes 1) the websites advertises 15% discount if you use them direct but its the same price on aps like "Just eat" 2) I ordered a large bottle of Coke, the driver didn't have it, I asked where it was and the response I got was "The restaurant didn't give me it, i'll go to the shop and get you one" He lied, he never came back.
