Our 1st choice of Indian takeaway. In our opinion, best in the Whitstable/Herne Bay area. Plenty of choices and always very good. Delivery always on the time they say or before and good value for money.

We ordered a delivery from this place last night and we were very impressed. The vindaloo was tasty and perfect spice. The chicken tikka spicy was absolutely delicious as was the korma. The portions were a generous size too. We will definitely be ordering from here again!!

Lovely takeaway Quick collection

This is our local takeaway & we’ve tried numerous dishes but ultimately it’s just very bland food. Their breads are nice but only naans are available at busy times (no parathas, for instance). Don’t get excited about the jalfrezi, chilli chicken masala, bhunas or any mainstream, familiar dishes - all are dialled down for the local palate- lacking in spice, heat, salt and flavour in general. We found the Ceylon curry tasty but even that is now absent in flavour. They make much of their ‘awards’ but I haven’t seen any genuine evidence of them. If you’ve ever had a curry in any city Masala Bay is going to cause you extreme disappointment. It’s also pricey (£52 for two) and they are habitually late in delivering. Our food- which contained nothing tricky took almost 2 hours and was 25 minutes outside their own estimate..save your money & get one when you’re next in London!

Great food, but have recently been put off ordering by the awkward encounters with a middle aged delivery lady that begs for tips and gets quite aggressive when you don’t. Its happened to a few others in Beltinge as well from what I hear.

We have tried all the Indian Curry Houses in the area and can safely say Masala Bay have been the best in our opinion. Very good food, we always try something different. Lots of variety. And the staff are very friendly. Highly recommend.

Had a massive order in for New Year tonight and these guys were bang on time and the food did not disappoint! They were so friendly and helpful over the phone too. Will definitely be our favourite option for take out

I ordered Chef's special chicken but there was so much sugar in it i could only eat half, it was so sickly I think he must use icing sugar.

Pure laziness from the chef / quality control at this takeaway. Ordered a Pasanda, as you can see from the photo. Chef cooked a korma, realized I ordered a Pasanda. And instead of cooking me what I ordered, they just crossed Korma out and wrote Pasanda. Would never order from here again.

Excellent food delivered on time no wonder they've won the best curry for years

Our first taste of Masala Bay and definitely the best takeaway curry so far. Delivered earlier than expected, hot, fresh and colourful but there is a ‘but’. Perhaps spoiled by Southall curries and a keen homemade curry enthusiast, we were wondering why everything was so sweet? The sweetness completely disguised the subtleties of the spices. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes, but everything just tasted of sugar - the chutneys, sauces (greasy - we poured a lot off), naans, bhajis. Take this away (completely in most dishes) and it would’ve been authentic and fresh.

This is the first time I've had this from masala bay, it's usually a kebab House issue. Had a chicken tikka, and the chicken was that really weird rubbery, crunchy, silicone like texture, doesn't feel like chicken at all, I have no idea why sometimes chicken from takeaways is like this.(I've got it, I know what the textures like, it's like one of those crab sticks)

Our family ordered a range of different meals and extras to be delivered. Due to past experience with other takeaways, we expected our food to be either delivered late, cold, or to have an item missing or not as ordered. To our pleasant surprise, our order was delivered on time, was hot and with no items missing! Not only that, it was all delicious! The best Indian takeaway we’ve had in a long time (we may have takeaways ince a month). We shall DEFINITELY be using Masala Bay again and absolutely recommend this takeaway-thank you :)

I like that you can see the chefs cooking while you wait, it shows they have nothing to hide and confident in their food. The food was really tasty and packaging was really good, it comes completely air tight sealed. We do order from here often It can get really busy over the weekend

Could not fault this in anyway. Got it delivered. Ordered early on Saturday and was here within the hour. Curry was amazing rice was lovely chicken was juicy. Only thing I would say is the bombays were slightly oily but this wasn’t a problem

Waited nearly 3 hours for a takeaway, 50 mins later that time precified for delivery. Sorry but a curtesy call from the staff to put you in the picture is so easy. We had children waiting for food.

First time of visiting when returning to herne bay. Love the window view into the kitchen to watch preparation. All 6 staff in turn broadly smiled when spotting me watching. 2 staff on desk were so friendly , polite and welcoming. What a change that all made to normal experiences elsewhere for takeaways.

I was very lucky that i went to this place. It was reccomended by my friend and the place was more amazing than i expected. It's food, Behaviour by members of Masala bay and the vibe of atmosphere... Just amazing

Having afforded the takeaway with the courtesy of a telephone conversation to register my disappointment in our meals I feel I can objectively review my experience. We ordered 4 meals with a side of Tarka Dhal, Generally the food lacked spice and seasoning and did not reflect the heat ratings as they were bland. The Dhal was very watery without any body. Throughout the dishes there was a watery theme lacking any depth. I am familiar with the taste variants in an Indian menu and felt that none were achieved. It was sad that I registered my dissatisfaction to be met with stock phrases such as " we will inform the chefs" or "we will give 20% off your next order" (as if...). I am not prone to complaining without cause and feel I am balanced in my approach. Had they that had they been a little more proactive we could have arrived at a compromise. I have had better meals in the past. I am not expecting a positive outcome from my review judging by my telephone experience other than being left undervalued with a rather bland taste in my mouth.

£31 for some old chicken stew (butter chicken and chicken curry) what a let down and one for the bin.. Rice was ok but im not eating that on its own. threw the whole lot away. I dont know what the other reviews are eaating but this was just stew and a bad one at that. Never again.

After waiting hours for delivery I now always phone order through and collect. Was told items would be ready in 35 mins. Waited in shop and it was 55 mins until I got our food. They kept apologising and gave me some free papadums for the inconvenience. Putting the above aside the food is fantastic. Try tasty, always hot temperature wise and good size portions. You won’t find a better Indian takeaway than this place.

Very rude. Asked for delivery, indicated intended to pay by card. No problem, told order 90 mins. Phoned after 100 mins, claimed they had tried twice for payment. No record on my phone. They then got stroppy and indicated last time I get to pay by card. They were not bothered if I order again. No worries, never going back. The food was very average anyway. So, no good reason to use this place unless you want arrogance and rudeness

I was lucky enough to have my first truly amazing Indian meal at the age of 16. I’ve been hooked since then and have been searching for that incredible first taste since. I found it this evening at this takeaway. Superb stuff from starters, through mains, and sundries. Keep up the good work guys, this’ll be our family weekly treat from here 🙏

Ordered a Chicken Jalfrezi,Lamb Naga,Mushroom rice and onion Bhajee. I enjoy the endorphins a spice kick gives. Received (when I got home) a Aloo Sag instead of the Jalfrezi so things didn't start off well and I'm disappointed as well as short changed. But the food was tasty anyway,1st world problems etc

Really good quality. Has great selection, food was tasty, was all correctly delivered and good for vegetarians. Lots of flavour but not too much spice, unless you want hot. Worth a visit.

For my birthday, my family and i ordered a take away from MASALA BAY. Spent £83= for the best take away ever. Polite on the phone; repeated our order to make sure it was correct. Arrived exactly when they said it would ( to the minute ). Friendly delivery man. There was 8 of us eating and so much food, i have enough for two more days. WELL DONE MASALA BAY; how people can complain is beyond me. I'LL BE BACK. 5 STARS.

I went to this place 3 years ago and the food was bland and they got the order wrong. I thought I'd try again, give the benefit of the doubt. So I went in and explained what had happened, the guy just laughed and said I will give you a free naan...Nice I thought. Wrong, the order was incorrect again, the food was yet again BLAND, and one piece of potatoe and onions not cooked, naan bread was old just been reheated and was solid. The poppadoms were soft and the rice bland. I will never go back I've been a critic of curry houses now fir 25 years and this is not what it purports to be, BEWARE

2 1/2 hour delivery time! Again!!!!!! Ordered 6.30pm to get ahead of the rush, had friends over & still no sign of food by 9pm. All hangry, getting grumpy, starving. The food itself is nice but you'll never get what you asked for & it will NEVER arrive within 2 hours of ordering.

First time we have used Masala Bay (take away) Well will definitely be a regular customer now. The Curry’s we ordered were hot when they arrived at our house. Sadly, a recent Sunday evening takeaway for 6 did not live up to its earlier promise. We have had good meals from Masala Bay in the somewhat distant past but this meal was most disappointing. Delivery took about one hour forty five minutes rather than the promised one hour twenty and some of the food such as the onion bhajis were dried out and nearly cold as if they had been cooked well in advance and half heartedly warmed through. Most of our mains had king prawns and without exception they were over-cooked and chewy. A dish that I had not ordered was delivered and added to the bill. Altogether sadly disappointing.

Our food arrived cold, completely bland and very watery. Disappointed, as I’d heard such good things about this restaurant. I would say this levels with one of the worst Indian meals I’ve ever had.

Hands down the best around. I always recommend people use Masala Bay. I have been going here ever since they first opened. Even after we moved to Canterbury we still drive all the way to Masala Bay to get our curry. No other restaurant or take away comes close. We were staying in Herne Bay for weekend and decided on a takeaway from Masala's based on previous reviews. The food was really good, the portions large and reasonable prices. We struggle to find good Indian takeaways so were very pkeasantly surprised.

Amazing! A truly brilliant curry. Having moved to Whitstable a year ago we have tried many local curry houses but have struggled to find an exceptional Indian, until we found this place a week ago. We have now had two this week. This will now be our usual.

A fairly bland mediocre curry - Lacked any real flavour and a fairly disappointing meal overall. The naan bread were decent, although I suspect the peshwari naan filling contained food colouring... I've never had a red naan filling before! The same could be said for the chicken curry. Bright red in color. Bland in flavour. The bright red colour is questionable? No complaints over the rice and bhaji. Portion sizes are good, but that certainly won't make up for the lack of flavour and disappointment.

All on time and food was perfectly ok but not exceptional. Would probably try somewhere else before returning.

The food was great but the delivery times awful....was told 1hour waited nearly 2! Really not on...I can understand running a little late but double the time quoted is just unacceptable

I placed a take away order in good faith for my family to enjoy in these tough times. After delivery even though the delivery guy went into the light, as I thought to make sure he gave me correct change I was then short changed it was only £1.20 but when I rang them to complain as its not normal for that to happen I was shocked at the lack of empathy and when I called him out he called me stupid and then when the guy who had made the mistake came back to deliver my outstanding money he told me never to order from them again. Charming! I hope no one else innocently checks their change as I hope no one else receives this shocking treatment to an innocent enquiry!

We used Masala Bay for first time for my birthday as we'd heard good things. When we ordered there was a problem with card payment, to cut a long short I actually ended up getting charged three times. The manager when I arrived there was very apologetic and sorted out the refund no problem and gave us a discount by way of apology. No hard feelings and I appreciate the gesture they mad. The curry was delicious; leftovers for lunch!

The best curry house around here by far. Tho Friday and Saturday nights due to the popularity, can be a long wait. I've waited two hours on several occasions. Which is a real shame. Food worth the wait. Excellent.

Always high quality food at reasonable prices. I've never had a bad experience with Marsala Bay: sometimes it's busy, sometimes very busy, l order ahead and put the oven on, to warm the plates, and in case l need to warm the food, but l never have. Best in the area!

I’ve lived in Whitstable for many years and as such have ordered many takeaways from the local vicinity. Masala Bay is my usual and I haven’t actually taken the time to give them the credit. Professional and attentive staff, but more importantly flavoursome, delicious and superb quality food which is arguably very competitively priced. Understandably they have changed some of their services in an ever changing and adapting world, as such it is delivery only (do miss the collection discount but understandable), however food has more often than not been delivered piping, within the time frame provided. On the odd occasion that something has gone wrong, staff have quickly rectified it. Very difficult to find authentic food these days in what is a saturated market, but as long as you keep your levels of quality, you will forever have me as a customer!RegardsMary

First time ordering here as recently moved into the local area, I must say I am very impressed. Food arrived hot, within the time provided and reasonably priced. It was the quality and flavour that has won me over. Very generous portion sizes. I tried the Meat Biryani, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Daal and Aloo Ghobi. Definitely my Friday nights sorted! Thanks Guys!

Ordered for the first time last week for delivery and both myself and my husband couldn’t fault it bloody delicious plenty of spice and flavour I was told about an hour and it was actually with us within half an hour top notch will definitely be ordering again

The food here is great but the overall service is really poor. They are too interested in taking orders than meeting a reasonable delivery time. Tonight they said 1 1/2 hours eventually arrived 2 1/4 hours after time of order. 45 minutes is simply unacceptable. No apology no discount no extras. I’d have settled for food on time. This is the third time I’ve had the same experience so no excuses now

Went past the masala and asked someone what is the best Indian takeaway in Herne bay and they suggested the masala. What a touch. Best Indian takeaway I have ever had I have eaten all over the world from deptford south London to Sydney Australia and most of Europe and never have I enjoyed a takeaway as much. Food was cooked perfectly service was spot on and the guy who took our order was really cheerful which makes a change. Really recommend this place

This is the first time I have ordered from this restaurant which was recommended to me by several others. It was excellent and delicious. My friend and I have eaten Indian foods in the past from many restaurants over many years and we both greed that this was the best. Really recommend it to others

Whenever we order an Indian we always like to order from yourselves as the food does taste amazing and we believe it is the best in Herne bay! However recently when we have ordered a delivery we have had items missing or the wrong item. For example yesterday we ordered a chutney tray from yourselves and got 4 pots of the exact same, instead of the chutney tray. Another time we ordered x2 Keema Naan, but we only received x1 Keema Naan and x1 Plain Naan. We understand that mistakes can happen sometimes but for it to happen on the regular when we order is not good. The service here is amazing though, friends staff and always helpful!

We ordered a variety of dishes and were disappointed that so many of them have so much food colouring. This doesn’t affect the taste but may be bad for our health and certainly isn’t necessary. Also, the chicken was that super spongey cheap chicken - it doesn’t resemble meat from a real animal and tastes horrible. On the plus side, service and speed of delivery were great and friendly.

1st Indian of lockdown. .been recommended to us by several friends...my husband says that it was the best takeaway he's ever had...and I agree. Piping hot...huge portions...delicious flavours..no grease at all which is unusual. So worth the drive from Whitstable. Will definitely return.

Well cooked and delicious Indian food. Even on a busy Friday evening the guys listened to food preferences and advised someone new to their menu. I am a wheelchair user and there is a medium step and a heavy entrance door to the Victorian property - they made time to help us get me out and on our way with our meal.

Masala Bay is the Indian takeaway that we ALWAYS use. Although sometimes the food does take longer to arrive, this is understandable considering how they must be terribly busy- It is well worth the wait, food is hot and the taste is outstanding! NEW REVIEW- Stars changed to ONE! We actually thought Masala Bay had changed management! The vegetable curry had leaked in the bag- it was everywhere. The food was cold- even putting onto warm plates I still had to reheat it. The spicy popadoms were soggy! What happened??? Never again will we eat from this place- there is too many Indian take aways, good service has to be given every time.

Cant believe how bad masala bay has got never had a bad takeaway from them before..recommended to all our friends over the years but today's experience is a disgrace, stale popadoms cold curry plus an hour and a half delivery. Rang them to complain and got told to f#$k off. Absolutely disgusting scumbags never using again
