Had a bad experience today. We ordered the Marus bhajiya for 10.99. She bought a small plate of bhajiyas instead of the big one. She gave a big plate to both the tables next to us. We could clearly see that we were fooled. At the time of paying when asked about the plate was told that we were given the right plate. Felt cheated. Will never go again.

Went to Maru bhajiya house yesterday. Ordered bhajiya and mogo. Bhajiya’s were super salty as was the mogo. When paying, fedback to the owner, who called out to the chef. Chef would not come out of the kitchen. Nasty place with no people skills. This is definitely the last time ever I go there. Customer service and bhajiya have been nasty there for some time now, but thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and go again. Never again!!!!

Worst place I ever visited in terms of food and Customer service. We ordered their special so called Maru’s Bhajiya and we found Hair in side plates , when we pointed out their serious mistake rather then doing apology a counter girl showing an attitude and she was so arrogant . She was arguing hair was came outside the kitchen. Zero customer service. Not a hygiene place.

I recently came from Manchester to visit Maru Bhajia with my family Saturday, and while the food was passable, the service was absolutely abysmal. We were overcharged by £15, and only noticed after we left and checked the receipt. The woman serving us was incredibly slow in bringing out drinks and food, and basic tasks were neglected. To top it off, they added items to our bill that we never received. This kind of blatant overcharging and poor service is unacceptable. I’m furious with how we were treated—it's essentially robbery. Avoid this place if you value good service and honesty. We were a family of 12, and they fully took advantage of us.

I have been looking forward to going to this place but left so disappointed. Over priced for a small plate of bhajia which are not even that tasty. What's with the absolutely awful sauces! So bad and greedy and would not ever return. Shame on you.

Great food there are out there resturants serving Maru's Bhajia but this place is the original rest are copycats and not the same.Only reason nit scoring 5 star on food is because I ordered the Dahi puri. The yougurt used was not as the original I have had and the dish did not taste the same as I was told that they did not have the original yogurt hence had to serve with alternate. The yogurt on this dish is smooth tangy and sweet.Service was amazing great staff and on order my partner wanted their fresh melon juice. Was told they did not have it.Just told the waiter Raj this can't happen in any resturant. He couple of door away went to a grocery store and got fresh melon and served it .I saw him walk out and returned with a fresh melon. This is going out of their way to please us.Wow quodos to the establishment and the staffs response. And this place has a nostalgia attached to it.Been on Eailing Road for so long and have visited it over the years from it's inception.Anyone visiting this amazing resturant won't be disappointed.Bravo to team Maru.

The bhajiyas were tasty and crispy. We ordered these together with kachoris and some other type of flat bhajiyas and tea. All came to £35 but one thing that really angered me is the quality of the tamarind chutney and fake ketchup. The tamarind chutney was just brown coloured water with no flavour and the ketchup was this pink slime. When you spend this much on basic indian street food they don't even serve you decent tomato sauce and chutney. Plus no music! Totally over rated and absolutely not worth going to. But if you do go, go next door to Prasad first and buy some tamarind chutney and then go to VB and buy a small bottle of heinz ketchup. Then you'll enjoy the bhajiyas!!

The OG and still the best! Marus is an institution and deservedly so! The potato Bhajias for which they are so famous are consistently excellent - big slices, cut super thin, served piping hot, with tasty chutneys - all washed down with an ice cold Thums Up - heaven! Samosa chaat also deserves mention (even the kids enjoyed it). Staff are really lovely and restaurant is very clean - pay them a visit!

Being a fan of “Maru’s Bhajiya House” its very hard to write this review but I had to after witnessing poor outcome from our visit. On the plus side; got a table straight away. Menu’s were handed out instantly. And the Bhajiya’s were nice. Thats all for the plus points. Now for the serious need for improvements: 1) while giving our order the waitress / host got a phone call so she went away and then came back. Not really what you would expect in a restaurant. 2) we requested if the Chai (Tea) can be mild and not strong and could be with more milk. The reason why we specifically asked for this was because we have had tea there before and it really was not to our liking. So double checked if they can make as we requested and the waitress said yes and then when the tea arrived it was nothing like what we asked for and instead it was exactly the distasteful tea we had previously experienced. So again we didnt feel like we got what we asked for. If they couldnt make it as we asked then they should have said its not possible and we would have happily not ordered tea. 3) the menu is very short and lacks options and not very children friendly. 4) They could be more respectful towards customers with allergies. I overheard a conversation where the husband asked if they have anything his children and wife could have to drink to cater for their allergies and wanted to know which options were safe. Instead of providing options or seeing what they can do, the waitress clearly said in that case don’t have anything as we cannot make anything. When the husband questioned her further she said I don’t know but we have been told to tell customers not to order anything if have allergies. I understand allergies are important and so restaurants are cautious but there is a way of addressing the situation and appropriately handling queries is something that the staff can be trained on. There is a way of talking to the customers. 5) The atmosphere in the restaurant felt more quiet than Silent Meditation Room. It was such a dull light and felt right out of place. If it wasnt for my love for Bhajiya’s I would not step in there again. 6) Ordered Mogo and they asked if we wanted Masala Mogo or Plain mogo so we asked if we could order Masala Mogo but with masala on the side. Again the waitress said its fine so we ordered and then after a long wait we got plain mogo and when queried about masala on the side she brought us a bowl with red chilli powder. Also the tamarind chutney was brought about 15minutes before the Mogo Arrived. And the Tomato Chutney for Bhajiya was brought 35mins before the Bhajiya’s arrived. Overall Bhajiya is the only thing we enjoyed and the rest was really a definite No Go for future visits or atleast until they improve their menu, their taste of food and their service.

The service was appalling, with only two staff members who were both abrupt and rude. The Maru bhajia was overpriced at £10.99 per plate and tasted like nothing more than a bunch of fried potatoes—no seasoning or flavor at all. The chutneys on the tables were so watered down they tasted like water. They boast on their website about being Kenyan-inspired, but having had authentic Maru bhajia from Diamond Plaza in Kenya, I can tell you that this was nothing like it. The kachori was also bland and lacked seasoning. Overall, a very disappointing meal and I would not recommend this place.

Just wanted to share my very unpleasant experience from last Saturday. Went there with my daughter to order take away. I was given the menu with Crispy bhajia option of £10.99 , which I ordered and paid for 2 boxes. Just after paying by cash I noticed there were two different sizes boxes were behind the till one with £10.99 and another one for £15 . I asked about the difference in the quantity the Gujarati girl said not much difference and when I asked about the weight they weren’t sure however the £15 box was nearly the double size so asked to change my order to bigger box instead of 2 boxes to the South Asian guy who was there with the girl on the counter . He not only refused to change the order but was so rude when me and the other customer inquired about this new size of boxes. He left the counter and went inside the kitchen and the girl said they can not change my order or refund the balance money even though I asked straight away after paying in cash as I didn’t see the offer and the boxes were kept behind the till. It’s not about the money but matter of principle that the way they treat the customers by raising voice, manipulating and ignoring . How pathetic was that. The guy on the till had no respect for women and no customer service whatsoever . Very cunning girl as she said we can not take the money out of the till and replace your order even though it was for the same food but different size.

Sadly i have too add to the already bad reviews since this restaurant has changed hands, the service is poor for waits of upto half hour for bhajiyas and tea, and the single/double portion of bhajiyas has changed to a single medium size at a ridiculous price of £10.99. The mogo is thinner hard and crispier rather thanthe chunkey soft pieces you used to get and the sauce chutney on it is very liberally scattered that you have to ask for extra. Thed young waitress is rude and does not distinguish between people who had ordered 1st or second and are waiting when delivering food to the tables as occording to her it's all arriving at a the same time. For two of us It cost us £40 for 1 plate bhajiyas, 1 plate mogo 1 passion juice and 1 tea and 1 take away cutlets. which is definetly extortion. We will certainly not be dining there after having attended for nearly 30 years as one of our favourite eating places.

Dating back well over 50 years and standing the test of time and taste, bhajias here are still some of the best you'll ever have, with decor to match. Extremely rude staff! I've never had such an unpleasant experience at a restaurant before. The food was not bad but due to the terrible customer service I will not be going there again. They messed up the order; ordered mango juice but received a falooda, which I returned and then got a mango lassi instead, specifically asked for a small portion of bhajias (which the waitress said was available) but received a large portion instead and was also overcharged. When I complained the staff were unapologetic and rather abrupt. The owner should really look into training their staff in customer service if they care about customer retention.

Used to be good quality bhajia. Frequent visitor. However, service was terrible today.. sent out burnt bhajia (kaju corn rolls - totally black - half the portion) sent back. No sorry, no acknowledgement, actually the whole time we were there no communication at all except taking the order. Dirty chairs we had brush of crumbs ourselves! Way over priced for service and quality

This place is a no go for anyone thinking it will bring back memories of their old taste buds. It's rubbish the chutney was salty , and the taste was nothing like the original i used to have .The price per plate was not worth it £10.99 PLUS SERVICE CHARGE . This is not Marus from Nairobi, but some chancer from UK of Shri Lankan origin. Go across the road to other restaurents for better bhajyas and wider nice testing varieties. Atmosphere was like a small time cafe with very high prices. Go there and get ripped off if you don't read the manu.

Service terribly slow. Food arrived one hour after order was placed. Two plates of Bhajia arrived without the tea despite the order being placed at the same time. After enquiring for the tea twice, got fed up and just left after paying for the Bhajia. They have the cheek of putting service charge on the bill!! I refused to pay this due to the poor service. Don’t think I will ever go there again.

Decided to give Marus another try, following it's hygiene rating to 5. Bhajias are nothing like what it used to be with the original owners. No taste, burnt, extremely disappointed. To top it off, price for single portion is now 10.99!!!! Definitely not worth that price!! There is no service, I have always found the guy behind the till rude. There is nothing to return for.

The quality of Maru Bhajia has deteriorated. The taste was like ordinary fries with minimum coating of gram flour.

Not the same under this management. Staff looking sad with no smiles. Not very welcoming and too offish with customers. Have to wait forever for service. The signature bhajia's are ok but lack something from the original quality of yesteryear! Bring back the Kenyan way! They could really do so much better! Most people come here because of the reputation built over decades and the link with East Africa. Plus after all the walking in and out of shops you're hungry so seems like a good deal! At £9.99 per portion of bhajia's seems quite expensive for what it actually is. Have some happy memories of many years ago at this place, but sadly not the same! At least smile at your customers and make them feel welcome! That way at least they may return!

Toastie wasn't quite as good as you'd get at the shop. Liked the Raspberry & Almond bake well enough

It was rather unfortunate for the cafe that their coffee machine broke down this morning as it took nearly half an hour to get 2 coffees (26 minutes to be precise). Two other customers in front of us also got their coffees 25 mins after their order was taken. When our 2 coffees did arrive one was incorrect. We had also purchased 2 doughnuts, which looked absolutely lovely in the display, however I agree with other reviewers - not the best we have ever had - doughnuts a bit tough ie. not fresh (?). With the 30 minute wait, we would have expected the coffees to have been refunded at the very least !! The 2 coffees were very small, 2 doughnuts for £15:40 - bit of a rip off. Have had better artisan cakes and coffees for less in London at other independent retailers. Will not be returning. 856/100 min characters

The staff were so uninviting and seemed like they hated their job, had to ask 5 times where to pay after having a look at what I want and the guy completely ignored me and left it for his colleague who also seemed very unbothered and monotone when I finally did get served. As for the doughnuts, It was my first time trying them. They look amazing but tasted so underwhelming, chocolate and salted caramel had a slightly burnt taste and the “salted caramel” was definitely not salted caramel, just tasted like burnt caramel. The vanilla was just plain and bland no real flavour so I was really hoping the blueberry cheesecake one would be good but it was also a disappointment. You get slight hints of blueberry then it’s just tastes like whipped cream. The only good thing about the doughnuts were the amount they were filled inside but it’s a shame they don’t taste as good as they look
