I love this place the food is delicious and always piping hot when it is served to you. They cater for small and large groups and nothing is any trouble for the staff.

Family meal ruined by kids screaming and running riot. Staff allowing this onhaooen whilst people are trying to enjoy their meal. Awful expreience and will never return.

Couldn't believe how quiet this place has become but it soon became apparent. Theres a truly rude and obnoxious jobs worth at the door who is only missing a little black tash His attitude is appalling. There was once a warm and friendly atmosphere but now it has all the charm of a morgue . Definitely won't be going back again 😒

We regularly visit Martinos. And in the past have left high rating reviews. But no more. The older guy who meets and sits you at your table is , without question, the rudest and most ignorant person in this establishment. Unfortunately through this man we will no longer be visiting. We are regular customers who always bring lots of other people with us, but because of this type of customer service we will NOT be visiting again. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

Came here for a meal on a Saturday night at short notice and was able to get a table. I had a garlic bread with cheese for starter and the 4 meat pizza for mains. Both courses were excellent as well as the price !. For me and my friend both set price meals and a drink came to £35.00 - what a bargain !. This is a place worth visiting !

Popped to Martinos to check for a table whilst having a trip to the beach. We were greeted by an older gentlemen who was very unfriendly and did not put a good start to the meal. However the lady who took our drinks and food order made up for the unfriendly front of house staff. Food was great as it was prior to lockdown, portions were a good size. Would recommend the garlic bread with cheese as a side!

Booked a table for drinks 4 weeks ago. Rang today to be told we couldn't sit outside at all and if we came inside we had to order a main meal each (we have already been for food as we weren't informed of this on booking) turned up to people sitting outside. We were told that they were understaffed but upon entering there was hardly anyone inside. Atmosphere was dead. The bloke spoke to us like crap...so rude!!!! and totally ruined our day. Absolutely terrible.

Welcomed in car park by 2 staff members only to be informed not open til 12 midday.so no morning cuppa. Took our booking for 12 and allowed us to leave car parked until our return. On entering the once bustling restaurant it was remarkably empty, logged details as per Covid protocol and hands sanitised .Guided to our seats for table service drinks and food ordered. No lunchtime specials available so ordered starters and main courses. Served our orders promptly, food was ok but have had better. Restaurant got a little busier but certainly not as previous just something lacking in the ambience. I do wonder maybe new staff or new ownership during the pandemic. A little disappointed.

Been using Martino's for years but no more. We had lunch yesterday the meal was lovely but the customer service was shocking. Had our meal then sat outside in the sun shine having a drink after our meal. Tried to order another drink for my granddaughter (only 15) and got refused due to shortage of staff? To be told by a member of staff if you get me some staff I'll serve you? I then proceeded to go in and ask for the drink to be told we don't have the staff to wait on tables outside? Then to be told we can't watch people outside with the glasses (why serve drinks outside with glasses) if you're worried about this why didn't you serve in plastic glasses? Further more I offered to fetch the glasses back in and swap them to be told no. If glasses get broken outside and a car goes over it? I was with me daughter in-law and granddaughter out for lunch why would we start smashing glasses in the car park? We finished our drinks outside I tidied all the glasses up on to a tray even from another table, I also picked a bottle up from out of the car park that had been there since earlier than left. Needless to say I won't be returning very disappointed in the customer service here. So after having a lovely meal and spending over £100 to not get a drink for my granddaughter a coke by the way ☹️

Al fresco dining during the easing of lockdown. My wife and I popped in after having a stroll along the sea front at Seaburn. The venue had erected a large gazebo to sit diners outside. We found the staff to be very thorough and very pleasant. The food was fine however prices had sky rocketed, I assume to cover gazebo costs. I was underwhelmed. One last note. I ordered a chicken parmo, but was only offered flimsy wooden cutlery. It was far from suitable to cut my meal. If drinks can be served in reusable glasses, surely cutlery isn’t out of the question?

we visited today the garlic bread was like a frozen pizza you buy from the supermarket, then the potato skins came not cooked so sent back and came back just the same so i didnt eat them and asked the waiter to take them off the bill. Our main meal then came and again looked like a frozen pizza from the supermarket dripping in grease and not tasty at all so left majority of it!! looking at other customers majority of them all did sent food back aswel. We did get free drinks as an apology however martinos has went really downhill since we last visited and we wont be returning anytime soon!!

We'd been looking forward to our return visit to Seaburn, after having a great time at Martinos (see my last review) last month. Once again we were warmly welcomed by Steve and Sophie, the food was excellent and we had a great time overall. I can't stress enough how good the prices are: three of us had mains, sides and two rounds of drinks, and the bill was only just over £50. We were disappointed to see that the restaurant wasn't as busy as the last time we were there, places like Martinos are exactly the type of local business that we all need to support, we'll continue to do so, and I can't recommend this place and it's great staff team enough.

Having been to Martinos numerous times, they have always been great. However myself and my partner booked a table on Saturday 23rd November expecting lovely food and good service. What a disappointment the whole experience was. Firstly the restaurant was empty and for some reason we got put on a table around the corner facing the wall beside the back fire exit. We placed our food order and normally at this point in any Italian restaurant you get complimentary bread. Our starters arrived and still no complimentary bread came. I had to ask the waiter, the waiter looked at me and said " the bread is there" and pointed to the small slice of bread under my garlic mushrooms. He eventually realised what I meant and brought the bread out by which time we had finished our starters. When the mains arrived, my partners was tasteless and mine was barely warm. We ate some of the meal and then asked for the bill. We didn't ask for desserts as we feared the desserts would be the same standard as the previous 2 courses. I was very disappointed with Martinos on this occasion and It has definitely put me off going back again...very disappointed

Attended for a family birthday, the staff were very friendly, the service was fast and the food was as usual lovely. We were in a large group however the food was served all together and we all enjoyed all the food. Very family friendly which is what we were looking for. Will return

After waiting about 40 minutes for breakfast to be told it had been taken to the wrong table. Then waited another 10 to 15 minutes for them to bring it back out and they hadn't even bothered to read what we wanted taking off and how we wanted it cooked. Even the waitress was disgusted at how the bacon came out. It hadn't even touched the pan it was that raw and that's not the first time I had complained that it wasn't cooked right. So after waiting nearly an hour for our food which I woundnt of put down even for pig swill. I got a refund and walked out. Incompetence down to the waitress and the chef. Safely say I will never walk through there door again.

First visit to this lovely restaurant to celebrate our stay with family. There was four of us, whilst we did not get the table we had booked, our visit was fantastic. We come here on numerous occasions as they have an extensive menu and a specials menu too.Came last night with hubby, son and his girl friend who hadn’t been before.Somewhat of a disappointment and not at all the normal service we usually get!First it took an absolute age for 3 bar staff to do two cocktails and then one of them had to be made again!!The girls had a starter Gamberoni in garlic and pâté which was a generous portion but not much bread?Then as we eagerly anticipated our main the manager came to apologise to say my husband and sons seafood special had been given to the wrong table and theirs had to be done again, which was fine. However what was not fine was that the remaining two pasta meals which were ready, were then kept warm. The outcome was one very well done rubbery topped pasta dish and one slightly limp pasta. They should have been served when ready or remade too. I did complain and we were given one free dessert.I appreciate it was busy and there were several large parties of diners in but after praising the restaurant to our guest I’m not so sure she was in agreement with me ☹️

This is a regular lunch venue for us, the staff are always helpful and friendly. The lunch menu is fantastic value for money, and tastes wonderful, potato skins for starters, and there are plenty of options for the main course.

Reserved a table for family lunch, arrived on time, went to our table which had our name onit, obviously to reserve it, but it also had extras on the table. The last as the table and surrounding floor had food all over.Had to ask a member of staff to clean it. What a shame as food was very good.

We visit Martino's each year as we trade at the Sunderland airshow. The food has never let us down. We opted for the Steak and Seafood sharer, great choice it was delicious. Tender steaks and lobster, juicy prawns fantastic Calamari, mussels , potatoes and a beautiful garlic butter sauce which was tasty yet not oily. Bargain at £50 for two people as it was huge!Excellent sevice by the staff efficient and friendly.

I came to Martino's with my friend for tea as heard about the 2 courses for £6 deal. We had to find menu's ourselves before ordering. First they didn't bring any food out for 45 minutes so we asked a member of staff who then said they had got our starters wrong so we would have to wait a bit longer. Eventually they were brought out and were ok. My potato skins were nice but the mayonnaise was like a huge lump you couldn't even dip anything in. My friend ordered soup which again was ok but looked watery. After this we then waited another 35 minutes for our mains which they had to clarify with us again before they actually came out. The pizzas were nice but nothing special. We did express our concerns to a member of staff who I believed was the manager and she kindly offered us a free drink. However, the wait time for food was far too long and because of this we spent even more of our money on drinks. This is the second time I've been to Martino's and the service has not been up to scratch. Last time we went for a birthday and had to pre order to be then asked to re order once we arrived. It's such a shame as they are reasonably priced and in a location but the service really lets it down.

Came for night out meal in a group. Due to half term was possibly hit busier as lots families but waiting staff did all they could.Maybe the kitchens that delayed but 20 mins for starters a further 45mins after we finished and having to ask for main course.Steak was dry and chips not amazing friends other meals not amazing.

An extended family gathering of seven in Seaburn chanced on this restaurant mid-week. Very impressed with the service and quality of the food. We visited Martinos as a large family group to celebrate my brother's 60th birthday. As there was lots of us they asked us pre-order. This worked well as dishes were being served within ten minutes of sitting down. Between us we sampled a wide range of dishes - pasta, pizza, seafood and steak. Everybody was happy with their food. The seafood - especially the lobster and the mussels - went down particularly well. There's something for all budgets too with pizza and simple pasta dishes very reasonably priced. The only let down were the skinny fries which were a bit on the anemic side.

Booked a table for my mams 60th birthday on 170619 - for 22 people! Had to say from beginning to end the staff were amazing and so accommodating. *Requested extra table for cake and gifts - no problem *Got there early to sort this and balloons etc - no problem - staff even offered to help *Few balloons and banners up - No problem *Food orders were prompt and children accommodated for - no problem*The young male server was just amazing! What a memory for people’s food orders and so polite - no problems *Candles lit on cake - rendition of Happy Birthday - asked for plates for cake to be cut - no problems *Extra water on table for non drinkers/pregnant guests - no problem *Splitting bill - pay separate at till - just perfect meant those with children could leave and others weren’t rushed!!! All in all an fabulous night enjoyed by all. I would say to please 22 people aged from 3yrs-70yrs is no easy task. I excepted at least 1 issue due to the numbers but everything was fantastic. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return. I would always advise booking even if not a large party - Wednesday evening every table was full from 630pm onwards! Thanks to all the staff who made my mams birthday extra special could not have asked for a better night or food.... Oh yes the food - absolutely amazing all came out together all piping hot - Service was fantastic...

Had a fabulous meal for an 80th Birthday. There we 30 of us and all of our meals came out together hot and delicious. The staff were great and made sure they everyone was looked after. The portion sizes are really generators. Even though we were a large party we all chose from the main menu - I have been at restaurants before who reduce the selection for a large number of people.A really memorable evening - thank you to all the staff.

We went as a group of 9. Didn't faze them at all. We ordered a kind of ultimate surf and turf. The picture on the menu does not do it justice. If we'd known the size of it we wouldn't have ordered starters. It was absolutely fantastic. Steaks, lobster, every kind of prawn you can think of, calamari and mussels. All on top of roast potatoes . Can't fault it, I'll b back and would encourage everyone else to try this. It's nit cheap at £50 , but it a dining experience every one should try at least once in their lifetime.

Visited for fathers day, booked in advance, we advised we had a booking, she looked a bit shocked so I didn't think we were booked in however we got seated the 4 of us at a 3 seater table... We ordered and my veg was very cold, obvs forgot to warm in the microwave so they took my plate back and gave me a fresh new dinner minus the veg for a good 5 mins, however veg arrived and piping hot, food was ok, nothing special compared to others, then we order a desert, I chose apple pie with custard and what came, a cold apple pie with what looked like mozzarella cheese but even bigger surprise they had chocolate sauce all over it, choc sauce, it was vile, the taste was still in my mouth for a good hour, you shouldn't mess with apple pie n custard, how hard to microwave it and don't put choc sauce on it, we tried this place out as we were thinking of booking all 14 of us here xmas, defo not now, great location, nice staff but food was awful, we visit alot of places in Sunderland etc and this was one of the worst I am afraid, veg was just tasteless and not much meat either, tried to leave a review on fb but you can't do this, wonder why!!

Due to the size of the party we had to pre order our meals, this turned out to be a good idea as the restaurant was well prepared and the service was quick and efficient The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed what they ordered I would definitely recommend a visit

Went as a walk in on a weekday and atmosphere was very welcoming staff attentive and polite. Meal was freshly made and well cooked. Would recommend and will be returning.

Booked the pool room for my hubby's big birthday party.Beverley was our co-ordinator.Very helpful and professional.The hot buffet we chose included cheesy garlic bread, potato skins and a choice of pizzas and pastas.We brought our own desserts and cream.The food was served promptly and was very tasty and piping hot.The room was a perfect size for our party of 60.Well recommended, thanks.

I have to say we visited today 2nd June 2019 and stood waiting to be served for about 10 minutes and witnessed 4 people getting involved in making one customer coffee. One man was drying glasses and 2 men were standing there talking doing nothing. There were 3 customers waiting to be served all bemused what they were looking at. The service is appalling and mark my words it will destroy them if they don't sort it out.

Party of 3, restaurant not very busy, 6pm booking, by 7.20pm we'd only had our starters! Not very apologetic either so we paid for what we had & left. Won't be rushing back.

Living very close I frequent this place often and usually its to a very good standard(was outstanding when first opened) Today for some reason and a 1st to me the restaurant area was closed so we had to make do with all I can call was the Creche! IE the front room..no table service and no-where screaming child free, me and my old Ma had to sit thro endless tantrums only after having to Q at the bar to order food for 15 mins(really) on paying the full restaurant prices the food was,,well ok at best leaving us feeling really let down,,cant fault the only waitress cleaning the tables at record speed but the whole experience was poor to say the least..If your paying full menu prices I would at least expect to be in the restaurant not the bar,,sadly my I have watched the demise of this once superb eatery but on observasion today it was short staffed (they did their upmost to be fair) and as a result the overall occasaion was ruined..

I contacted this restaurant prior to booking to see if the do gluten free food. They arranged for me to go in and speak to chef which I did. He told me could make me almost anything off the menu gluten free if I gave him notice. I arranged for him to make gluten free pollo Pepe There were a total of 8 people who visited and all the starters were lovely. Most of the food was lovely except for one pizza which was apparently dry, bland and tasteless Overall we had a lovely evening and a big thanks to Stacey who arranged for me to speak to the chef. A fabulous restaurant with lovely staff. The food is exceptional. Started with a wonderful prawn cocktail followed by spaghetti bolognese. To finish off I had Tiramisu which was fantastic. The second night I had a gorgeous Bosco with Penne. You won't regret a visit. Top class !

Called and booked a table for 7 people for 5pm on sunday evening. Was told no tables in the restaurant however we could sit in the bar only thing is we had to go to bar to order the food not an issue we thought. Ordered our food, starters were correct and tasty, mains again food not an issue however we were charged for an extra meal. Staff were quick to get this sorted and we were refunded. We have been many times and no doubt will go back hopefully this was just a one off

Visited today for a family lunch. We found the service to be incredibly poor, not welcoming. When the waiter brought our mains we asked if we could have some ice cream for our toddler as she had finished her meal. He told us we would have to go and order at the bar which meant leaving our meal to do so. It took a couple of minutes for the waitress behind the bar to acknowledge me, all the while my main was getting cool. When the ice cream came though she did enjoy it. My husband got the calamari to start, the batter was soggy and the calamari was tasteless. I had the garlic mushrooms which were passable. We both had a pizza for main, the meatballs on mine did not taste nice and it was not at all spicy as advertised on the menu. My husband did not enjoy his Martino's special pizza either. Overall very disappointed, will not be returning.

I visited with my family and friends, at the first 2 visits were rlly good, appart from the poor table service, then we decided to go for a late lunch, service was terrible and appaling, food was cold, and they got our order wrong twice. will NEVER BE GOING AGAIN!!!!1

Food very good and reasonably priced and fast service, unfortunately I had to mark down a few points due to the child in the next booth who continually rode up and down on the wood flooring with her wheelies. I would have thought from a health and safety point of view that staff would have politely asked her parents if she could stop doing this as there was hot food and drinks being carried around the restaurant. Even after we made staff aware she continued to do this throughout our meal. I thought it was Happy Hour not play hour ‍♀️

Where do I start? We ordered breakfast. Simple order - 2 full English and 2 teas. Although the place wasn't terribly busy we still had quite a wait for breakfast. When they arrived mine had a lump of what was apparently scrambled egg, despite having ordered fried egg. The waitress was very apologetic and immediately whisked it back to the kitchen to correct my order. To put it politely, the food was awful. It wouldn't have been quite so bad if it had been plated/presented correctly. Instead the food was dumped on the plate with a mixed pile of beans and tinned tomatoes slopped on top. Bacon - slightly undercooked but quite tasty. Black pudding - dry and rock hardMushrooms - obviously been kept warm with a lid over and had sweated. Fried egg - overcooked on the bottom and snotty on top. Sausage - anaemia lookingToast & hash browns - half were soggy from the pile of beans and tomatoes on top. The tea hadn't arrived by the time we were halfway through so my partner went back to the bar to remind them. 5 minutes later one of the waitresses came over to the table to ask again if it was tea or coffee, as someone had thrown away our order slip. The tea when it finally arrived wasn't bad.We were really hungry so my partner managed to eat most of his breakfast. I ate less than half. The waitress came to clear the plates and apologised again for the mix ups but didn't stop to ask if there was any problem with the food. All in all, pleasant enough staff but awful breakfast. Don't waste your money!

Lasagne was horrible and on the wrong plate. Stay clear! Staff are cold and uninviting. Wine was not cold. Altogether a bad experience.

We visited on a Sunday and were seated promptly even though the restaurant was busy.I checked on arrival that there would be safe options for my food intolerances.All the meals were really good; adult pizza, steak and Chips and a children’s steak and vegetables.Unfortunately I was ill immediately after eating.I did send a message to the restaurant via Facebook Messenger to advise them what I’d been served so they could check their processes for contamination, but I haven’t had a reply.I definitely wouldn’t recommend the restaurant for an allergy sufferer.However, for everyone else, it is a relaxed, family friendly restaurant with good food.

We visit martinos now and then when we are around seaburn, visited today and our 2 year old was awake for once so we got her some food aswell, we had our usual potato skins, pepperoni pizza and Arabiatta pasta and was all lovely as usual, daughter had spaghetti bolognese off the kids menu which she enjoyed. All of the staff are lovely but one of the staff in particular was really nice, he made comments to my daughter as she was eating her food praising her etc then as we left he asked if she had been a good girl and after hearing me say her name called her back offering her a lollipop which I thought was really nice. One of our favourite Italians as great value using the £5.95 for 2 courses menu and although very nice inside it’s very relaxed so we feel really comfortable with our young daughter. We paid around £20 for 2 2 course meals, a kids meal and 2 large cokes.

Came In today for a family meal. Walked in and was greeted my lovely woman straight away. We didn't book but got seated straight away.The food was all fresh and beautiful starters and mains.. not one of us was disappointed with the quality.All staff were really nice especially a Lovely woman working there was collecting dishes when we finished our meals over heard that it was my grandad birthday (85th)and came over a couple minutes later with a birthday cake for him. This for me was such a nice touch totally unexpected and he was over the moon.Thank you

Lovely food, beautifully cooked. Reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely will be going again in the future.

A great place for a value for money meal. Great service compliments the visit. The happy hour meal is a treat for a quick visit

My friend and I visit regularly while out for a coastal walk. The place is always packed, great atmosphere, friendly staff and orders are delivered in a timely fashion. Very reasonable prices and happy team.

Went on a Saturday night family of 8 meal . Now this has always been my favourite restaurant in Sunderland and i have been 100s of times and every time has been outstanding. BUT Saturday's visit was horrendous. Chaos behind the bar waited a long time for the table to be cleared and then a long time for the starters that didn't come out together . Had to ask twice for cutlery, the starters were very poor when the mains came out the pizzas were nice but all the pasta meals were terrible . When an Italian restaurant can't get the pasta right it has got problems . I hoped this was a one off but looking through reviews it doesn't look like it . Please Martinos will you let me know when you sort your problems out and i will return , but in the meantime i will be going elsewhere.

went last night on a family night out of 11 at half 4 service was poor from the outset did not take our menu till 45 minutes later, starters arrived which was ok, we waited another 45 minutes before main meal arrived, could tell straight away it didn't look right, I had penne bolognas which had no sauce on very dry the same happened with mu uncles carbonara which had no cream and only 2 pieces of ham, our shared garlic bread was hard and difficult to cut and it shattered when cut, the others had pizza which all looked overcooked and very dry, when they eventually came and took plates she asked was everything ok as we had left loads so I told the manager it was not good and explained why, she took the garlic pizza and the carbonara to show chef on her return she deducted the 3 bolognas and the carbonara and the garlic pizza off the bill, but I felt we deserved better I know it was a sat night we had booked a table they let them selves down and we all wont be back again some stayed to finish there drinks in the bar area, but me and husband left feeling very disappointed, they should just serve food in restaurant on a sat night and not in the bar/sitting area overstretched them selves.

I attended the restaurant with close friends for my god daughters baby shower we had a lovely meal the staff were friendly and quick with our orders and the food was lovely and hot and really tasty I would definitely go back.

Two previous visits were outstanding, but today it was" not going back" thereWaited 45 minutes for a tea and coffee, starters came & were consumed , main courses came , wife chicken was pink in middle & stuffing was missing, talked to manager , whom immediately went to blame new bar staff...funny they both served us last visit a month ago.I asked if he was happy to wait 45 minutes for a beverage? Refunded wife's meal and drink ,I said no I don't want a refund , you need to address raw chicken and long waiting issues....
