Having never tried this cafe, I was intrigued as I had heard some good things so I thought I’d try. As I arrived I was greeted politely and shown to a table I was served relatively quickly and the food I had ordered was lovely as I was getting ready to leave and as I went to i was shown out by the lady who had served me. Overall the breakfast and service were impeccable would recommend.

Marr Grange Farm Shop is tucked away down a narrow lane but is well signposted and well worth a visit. We went and had a superb full English breakfast, the quality of the food is excellent, as are the drinks (coffee etc). I live locally (Sprotbrough) and have to say that we are lucky to have this little gem so close by and accessible, I wish we had these guys in our village it would save me a car journey every week but probably cost me an extra breakfast too. Booking in advance is highly recommended as is popping into the farm shop to treat yourself to some delicious treats such as cakes, pies and sausage rolls, all to die for ! I'll pop pictures on next time we go

I was really looking forward to our visit for afternoon tea, the Saturday before Mother’s Day. I called in advance and made the reservation for my mum, daughters and me. On calling, I specifically stated that my booking was for afternoon tea. We had planned to take my grandchildren with us but when I booked I was informed that they only had a table for four people available, so this not being possible, we decided to have a ladies afternoon out. On arrival, I was a little surprised to see that there were several tables empty, one of which was large with lots of space and set for three with a high chair. I thought that this table would have been ideal for us and we could have brought the children. The table where we were seated could have easily seated the three and a high chair. Nevertheless we were there, looking forward to our afternoon tea. It took a while for the waitress to come to our table as she put her attention on to cleaning the table next to us. Eventually she came and I said that we were booked for afternoon tea. Oh she said and walked away to tell another waitress. The second waitress came over and said that she didn’t have us booked for afternoon tea, and then started to quiz me, was o ask to pay, was I asked about allergies etc. I said no, having not been there before, I just called and said could I book for afternoon tea. So I thought I had booked for afternoon tea. She was very accusatory, unwelcoming and even unfriendly. It was clear a mistake had been made in that she hadn’t been married with the booking, I accepted that, but I absolutely would never expect such behaviour . She made absolutely no attempt to save the mistake and was very abrupt. So we drove a couple of miles down the road and had a lovely tea elsewhere. We all understood that mistakes are made, the trick is how they are dealt with. Not good here.

I booked this restaurant/cafe for breakfast as it was advised when I looked at the website and reviews. I was glad I did as it was packed, and after my husbaand & I and some friends had breakfast I can see why. The food was fantastic, and all locally sourced, the portions were a good size and the staff were really friendly. If you are going on a journey and want breakfast this is the place to go. I would totally recommend this place. The shop is fantastic to, we came away with some sauces and Sloe Gin!

Started visiting this place in 2019 when I lived nearby. I now live in Sheffield, 30 min drive away, and I still visit here. It's the best farm shop and tea rooms I've ever visited. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the food is exceptional. The amazing food is the reason why this place is so popular and why it's recommended to pre-book; although, I have been on a few occasions where they've had tables available. I look forward to visiting every Friday to buy the steak pies and to see what else is on offer at the deli as it's all freshly made. The bacon is highly recommended aswell. In the tea rooms, the full English is delectable, perfect size portions and all freshly made and the coffee is delightful. Visiting here is a real treat.

We were looking for a lunch stop close to the A1 and this fitted the bill. Best to phone ahead if you can as the Tea Room was busy and isn’t a large place. Only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday but on other days you could pick up some splendid picnic items from the adjacent Farm Shop. We were advised it was a 20 minute wait for a table so we had a look round the farm shop and it was actually only 10 minutes. It’s not a place to choose if you’re in a hurry as everything is freshly prepared but it was worth the wait. My husband’s burger with blue cheese, coleslaw and chips was excellent. I enjoyed my chicken and bacon club sandwich (choice of white or brown bread) which came with a side salad and coleslaw. Service was very friendly and efficient. We popped back into the farm shop to pick up a few items to take home.

Called in to the Farm shop today to have a look round, we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and the sight of delicious looking homemade pies & cakes! Didn't try the tea rooms but ended up spending £50.00 on home made pies, cakes, cheese and artisan butter plus some cooked meats, sausages, smoked bacon & a joint of lamb. The home made pork pie & the roasted belly pork were divine! Old fashioned Yorkshire cooking & baking at its best! The homemade coffee and walnut cake was equally delicious and lovely & light. Yet to try the bacon & the lamb etc. but going on what we have tasted so far it should be just as delicious!. Would highly recommend a visit if you love home style food and quality fresh meat.

Took a friend out on Thursday. Let's try the Marr Tea room. Sounds good. However, only a small tearoom. One table was fully set out. (Obviously booked for a party.) 2 tables were occupied but 2 were not. We headed for one but was stopped. We were asked had we booked. We didn't know we had to!!! There was a 45 minuet waiting time. It was a lunch time. There was a table outside, we asked if we could use that & got a menue. Though it was a nice day it felt chilly sat at the table. We handed the menus back & moved on. You cannot just drop in on passing as advertised. You should book if you want to give that tea room a try. We won't be doing. It wasn't the bestest of greetings really. I felt like we had intruded. Maybe the proprietors should have a sign up to worn people they are booked up to save any disappointment & embarrassment to visitors.

Firstly if I could give them a bigger score I would, the deserve it. We used to shop hear years ago, but we moved out of area, it as always been a good farm shop. These days I need to use a power chair to get around, so wasent shure when we decided to go the place would be accessible. I looked it up on line and noticed the ramps in the photograph, so we decided to chance it that the inside would be accessible. I wasent disappointed, a young girl held the door open for me till I got through the door way. Then I noticed the whole place had been altered, plenty of space to manover my chair, making the shopping experience totally enjoyable. The staff couldn't be more helpful. As for the meat and other produce, all first class stuff, yes it's a bit more expensive than a supermarket but you only get what you pay for, quality comes at a premium. Would recommend Mar Grange Farm shop to anyone.

It's not oftenI award five stars, but here we are !My wife and i were driving South on the A.1 and were looking for a lunch stop. By the power of the internet I picked Marr Grange at random as it was going to match our time/distance to go requirements. What a lucky choice ! Pleasant surroundings, polite staff and good quality food. My wife had quiche with new potatoes and veg. I had the ploughmans platter. Great quality locally sourced ingredients, good portion sizes and nice relaxed atmosphere. I read that the 'poor' ratiings seem to relate to the reservations system. We did not phone ahead, and there was a note on the door saying bookings only.I assume this was to help them with their COVID screening, but they were more than happy to seat the two of us on spec.My wife and I were so pleased with our choice I think it may be a regular stop when we are using the A.1. There are aslo plans apparently to enlarge the restaurant area and the car park for what is obviously a popular place.

We both had prawn cocktail to start with which was really nice and then turkey and all the trimmings - plenty of meat which was cooked to perfection and the vegetables weren't over cooked, it was lovely. My partner had xmas pudding with rum sauce which was nice and rich and I had sherry trifle - it could have done with just a drop more sherry in it, but was very nice. Beautiful farm shop well stocked with quality goods great value. We have also visit the cafe several times for breakfast. This morning however we were turned away at 9.15 due to reservatiions yet there were tables empty. We sat outside and had a pot of tea then shopped in the farm shop. When we left the tables in question were still empty. This is the third time this has happened to us and we always arrive early in time to have our breakfast before the shop opens. Other customers WWE also complaining. I don't mind waiting if there are no tables but in such a small cafe this reservation policy seems ridiculous. Because of your location like most people we have to drive. We are not going to keep coming if this is going to happen every week . Staff however were very polite

Was served by such a lovely lady, tall with blonde hair - she was perfect in her role, wonderful simple service. The cups & teapots were beautiful, as was the Americano coffee. We had option of fresh or tinned tomatoes, brown or white toast. The eggs were really nice, as was everything really. Nice thick bacon. Breakfast was great. Then we went into the farm shop next door (where we entered by mistake at the start, thinking it was the cafe) the caramel slice was for sure homemade it was beautiful - the best I've tasted in years - & so cheap at 90p. The counters were full of all sorts of goodies & the shelves stocked with fresh breads, veg, wines, curry sauces, pie's, unique gifts - everything! What a find!! Asked the butcher if the bacon was nitrate-free. He didn't know so asked another butcher who told me No, we do it the old- fashioned way. Unfortunately my husband can't eat chemically-preserved foods so that was a no-go. A big shame as the Farm Shop promotes it's home-reared and home-smoked pork. Worth the stop because it's not just a farm shop... In fact if we had been nearer to home we could have gone nuts in the shop! But, we were just stopping off for lunch on the way through. It's NOT a dog friendly restaurant... so we (and Rudy) ate lunch (he got some scraps) Outside on a very chilly October day... But this is a great place! Friendly staff, good menu and I had a steak and ale pie and Micki had Lasagne (now she cooks a great lasagne... so her saying it's good praise indeed)...Folks were turning up placing their lunch order and then picking up all their meat and veg from the shop before nipping back to the restaurant to tuck in... Plety of them were passing by our table outside and stopping for a chat (they're very friendly folk up there)

Really like this place. Only had a coffee and a cake, they were both lovely, staff were very friendly and the place was really clean, Would definitely call again. The farm shop is brilliant, a bit pricey but the quality is fantastic so i dont mind paying for good produce. The pies are brilliant and the butchers part sells quality fresh meat.

My son and daughter in law bought me and my husband a gift voucher for afternoon tea at Marr grange tearooms. We booked which is essential for 3pm Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by two members of staff who took us to our reserved table and after letting us get comfortable asked us what we would like to drink. We had a pot of tea for two and then they brought out our food. Absolutely fantastic display of sandwiches, crisps, mini cakes , beautiful scones with separate pots of jam and clotted cream and two beautiful fresh fruit, jelly and cream deserts. The food was second to nine, nicely presented and freshly made out of the best quality of foods

We have visited twice now and on both occasions had fantastic freshly cooked breakfasts. The staff are friendly and pleasant the place is clean and well managed. Prices are not on the cheap side but the quality of the food endorses the value. The bacon is thickly cut and the sausages are substantially meaty. They serve a variety of teas by tea pig. They warn you that you may have to wait as all food is freshly cooked. But the delay isn't overly long we have waited longer st fast food restaurants. Overall this place gets a big thumbs up. When you tie it in to the Farm Shop it's a great find. The butchery department is outstanding with helpful friendly knowledgeable staff a must visit place.

The first thing I have to say is that the staff here are never short on a smile, with a warm welcome both in the cafe and shop. Always tasty food and served quickly, although it would be nice to have drinks with the meal not 10 minutes before. That said it is reasonably priced so you can always order a second. They use the products that are sold in the shop so you know what you buy to take home will be good quality. My husbands only complaint is they always run out of the curd tarts quickly!

Well presented quality food, superbly cooked and came to the table nice and hot. A little overpriced in my view as tea or coffee came at an extra price. Two breakfasts and two pots of tea cost just under £20.

We visited as a group of six including two children. All tried something different and all enjoyed both the food and the experience. The children were well catered for with pencils and a children's quiz and drawing sheet. The breakfasts were individually cooked and prepared. From a simple toasted teacake to full cooked breakfast. Very well presented and a joy to look at and above all eat. We will be back.

Today I visited this restaurant for the first time for afternoon tea with six other friends. We have been to many other places but could not fault this in any way. The variety of sandwiches and delicate cakes was very good. The staff really made sure we had all we needed including refills of drinks which are often charged as extras at other places.

Called in for breakfast as we have visited the shop on numerous occasions and really like the quality produce. The staff were exceptional from start to finish. The food was well cooked, quality meats and presented very well. A pleasant surprise was the offer of free prosecco due to the owners anniversary which I declined due to driving (and it was 10.30am). Congrats for supplying a truly lovely breakfast experience and happy anniversary

This farm shop and café is a must visit destination situated in a delightful setting. The food in the shop has maintained a consistently high standard over the years and the staff are friendly and helpful. The addition of the new café on the premises has the same high standards. The décor is of a high standard and stylish, the staff are friendly and efficient and the food is absolutely delicious, freshly prepared homemade food using the freshest ingredients. It is obvious a lot of effort goes into making this farm shop and café a delightful place to visit. We would highly recommend it.

The best steak pie, chips and mushy peas made even better by the real gravy served with them. Lovely staff, excellent service and a clean, relaxing environment. We have shopped at the Farm Shop many times but this was our first visit to the Tea Rooms, it won't be our last!

I normally enjoy farm shops even though they can be a bit expensive but it is worth paying for locally sourced meat, fruit and vegetables. However, this farm shop is expensive for the food on offer. We found the bacon average and certainly not superior to a good supermarket one. Same for the pies. Local butchers do much better for far less! The tea room was painfully slow for service and staff did not look very happy to work there. Overall very disappointed.

Although expensive...quality counts. Just a suggestion. Could cooking instructions be printed on the labels please. Never sure how long or at what temperature pies and such like should be cooked for. Thanks

We had prebooked afternoon tea for 5 people as a birthday treat. The table was attractively set prior to our arrival and the staff were attentive and friendly. The food was dainty and beautifully served. We were enjoying our the experience very much when to our horror a member of staff started vigorously sweeping up. We had to ask for her to stop as she reached the table next to ours and dust could be seen rising. I admit we were the only customers in the tearoom at the time but we felt that our presence was stopping them from clearing up for the day. It was 2pm !

We had been here once before under a previous management, when we thought the food was A. a bit pricey and B. a bit pretentious. Yesterday's experience was very different. The outside area when we walked up from the car park needed a bit of a clean, especial as the compound for litter is in full view and was full to the top of cartons and other rubbish. It wasn't a good first impression but we forgot all about it when greeted by a lovely member of staff, (Maisie?) who was very welcoming. Our table was in one of the small dining areas off the main bar area. We had a little wander around after we had eaten and the whole downstairs is very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Every member of staff we met was friendly, helpful and able to deal with our requests. We ordered two starters and mentioned that the third member of our party might be allowed to share. As a result, the waitress brought a third plate. The starters - fish cakes and ham terrine - were very nice indeed, although, in retrospect, I should have just had a main course, as the portions were quite generous. All three of us had the Barnsley Chops for a main and they did not disappoint. However, they were served in a shallow bowl and I would have preferred a proper dinner plate. It made cutting the meat from the bone quite difficult. We also had a side order of cauliflower cheese and it was enough for all three of us to share. Everything was very nicely cooked and presented. Dessert was the hazelnut cheesecake, which was pleasant, if a little bland. Very good coffee the end the meal. All in all, a very nice experience and I would recommend 1903 for a special lunch out.
