I've been in a few times now to have avocado off thr menu. Today I wanted avocado and poached eggs off the brunch menu. I was told the freezer was broken so they don't have avocado (frozen avocado....why?) Also odd as the food court is just downstairs so avocado easy to get hold of. Anyway I asked for the poached egg without the avocado...The lady in the kitchen didn't want to make it (I don't think) so they said no it was a breakfast item...but I queried this to say it is just the egg without the avocado that I can't have as they don't have any. The poor lady at the till then went to speak to the kitchen again. I got the feeling the lady in the kitchen didn't want to make this but they agreed as clearly my request wasn't unreasonable! The lady from the kitchen served us and was very very miserable. I don't think she likes working there or was having a bad day. I think the cafe needs to think it if wants to serve this dish as it never seems to be there and actually the one time I did have it, the avocado tasted pretty vile. If it is frozen that explains it. Yuk. Food was nice in the end albeit without the green stuff. 😋

To begin with there was a nice fresh Americano with soya milk. However, porridge had apparently recently been withdrawn from this stores menu, which seems strange just before winter… No ketchup was available either, to go with the omelette and beans ordered – just brown sauce. These came with some [somewhat crunchy/ dry/ hard white sour dough] toast… No brown or healthy? wholemeal bread was apparently available either…:-/ To finish off there were two more crispy, and fairly dry, white sour dough toast slices, with no [non-lactose] alternative spread to butter, to help soften them and make the marmalade more palatable…. In the end, in my opinion, poor value for money overall, particularly with the time and effort expended finding out just what obvious common breakfast items like; porridge and lactose free spread, were not available.....

Portion sizes of food in this case jacket potatoes are terrible. A tiny bit of tasteless cheese with a couple of table spoons of coldslaw was seriously disappointing and a total waste of money. If you were looking at this as a main meal, save your money and go somewhere else as you will be left starving.

When people are returning to shops and cafes, staff need to be mindful that for customers it may be the first time in a establishment since covid changes have been put in place. When you have two young children in tow it may be that you miss certain signs etc. The correct way of dealing with this is to be polite and tell the customer that they need to do. It isn't to snap rudely at them. We then found a table that hadn't been cleared away. We hovered around it hoping it was going to be cleared. My wife dared to pick up a tray of used cutlery /food and take it towards the hatch area. Again, she was rudely reprimanded by the staff member for doing this. Perhaps if they were more efficient at clearing away then this would not have happened. Another staff member then began to clear tables away. They saw us waiting for our table to be cleared. Looked at us and then began half-heartedly cleaning another table - now, no-one was waiting to sit at this table so one might have thought that clearing our table would have been the priority. It was fairly easy to see that this act of delay was done on purpose. These incidents spoiled the trip. We complained to a manager downstairs and received a satisfactory apology. M&S must do better. I have previously felt unwelcome with young children in this cafe.

Came in for lunch, lots of of empty tables but food and plates on almost all of them. Very dusty partitions between tables. No hot food being served but no sign or notice until got to till. Had some disappointing toasties which were soggy and cold in the middle. Staff seemed like they weren't happy to be there, asked for a fork as none came with food and none in the cutlery stand but staff never returned with them. A shame really as we used to like it here and come often but won't be returning.

WE moored our boat close by looking forward to M&S carrot cake. One of our crew had been drooling all morning while going on endlessly about how good M&S carrot cake is. When we arrived it was such a disaster when we found that there was no carrot cake. The alternatives we chose were very average. The scones being fairly tasteless in particular. The coffee is OK but not the best. Not the best morning we spent.

Simple coffee at 14:00 - post rush I thought mistakenly. Coffee is okay reasonably quick but the failiing was that I was not told I needed to clear my own table of other people's dirty crockery both the previous tables occupants and my delightful neighbours whom thought it is best to chuck the remains of their tables previous occupants on to the only free table.I cleared both and received thanks from the one lass trying to perform that task. Visited M&S cafe again today and - joy of joys! - they have ditched the wood. Ordered a sausage and onion toastie and had to wait only minutes for this to arrive, piping hot and with a generous filling. Delicious! Full marks to the kitchen staff; food was coming out at the rate of knots - very efficient.Still no mustard - brown/red sauce doesn't quite do it for me with a sausage sarnie. Lovely pot of tea but the toast was hard and unappetising. This was made worse by being served on wooden platters which makes it very difficult to eat, the platters being on the small side. I thought I'd have a coffee whilst waiting for my wife to do her shopping in the store. The cafe part is now upstairs reached via the escalator and is fairly open-plan. The cafe was very busy and I only saw two vacant tables, both were full of crockery from previous visitors. The queue to be served was not long but it was very slow. By the tills, I could see the price list for the food they offered, but I didn't see anything relating to the beverages, so when I asked for a cup of coffee I got the usual reply of black or white, I chose white only to be interrogated again with a list all their possibilities. I just want a cup of coffee with some milk in it like I'd make at home, I'm not sure of its technical name. So now the next question; is that small medium or large? I was beginning to feel faint from exhaustion and dehydration, so rather than asking to see the cups relating to the choices, I foolishly chose medium and paid the £2 requested. The medium cup duly appeared with coffee in it, and immediately I thought it was a good job I hadn't asked for large because I doubt I would have been able to lift it with one hand; it was enormous. I commented on this and the lady serving said, "yes, they are big aren't they, you'll perhaps need more milk so if your pour some in now, I'll top-up your milk jug". So now I couldn't get the table without spilling some as the level was now very close to the brim and my waiter-skills have long since departed. When I got to the table I had spied earlier, it was still full of crockery and empty sandwich wrappings, but I cleared it away and sat down to enjoy my break. Initially I thought that the coffee tasted a little harsh but after adding the extra jug of milk it became tolerable.Whilst drinking said beverage, I did see a lady cleaning the tables, actually that should be table because she only managed one whilst I was there. All in all, it was OK, but I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit.

I was in Blackpool recently for the weekend and the lager in most pubs we went in was well under £3 a pint. I do not expect to pay premium prices in a brewery owned pub, especially when pubs such as Wetherspoons can undercut them by a considerable amount and other non brewery owned pubs as well. The Wetherspoons pub in Stourbridge is full most days, which reflects the reasonable pricing for food and beer. The food prices in Marston's pubs are also on the high side, but the food was mostly quite good and the service was good. If pubs are to survive they need to be competitive with regards to pricing and not charge through the nose....£3.10 for half a coke is very expensive in my view and the beer is too expensive...well over £5 per pint for Guinness is crazy. It's a nice enough pub, but well overpriced.
