This cafe is part of the M&S food shop in Waterlooville. It is very basic with no attempt to provide any ambience. Simple functional tables and chairs and rather bland white walls and a high ceiling! The photos on the TA site give an accurate impression. Almost like a utilitarian warehouse canteen! That said, it works well as a simple cafe; good coffee and a limited range of cakes, paninis and toasted sandwiches. We've been a couple of times and found service to be acceptable if somewhat slow and 'remote'. It's good to see that the Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating is 5 star, the top grade, at the last inspecion in March 2023. Toilets are at the back of the food hall. Overall we're left with the impression that this doesn't support M&S brand values. It doesn't do anything to make the food shop a destination of choice which presumably is a marketing objective?

Changes due to covid have impacted things and its confusing now that the store entrance is now open as well...poor mask wearing and no one checking!

Enjoyed a high tea here on two occasions. New social distancing works ok in the cafe section although they have taken away the security guard making you wait for a table

Like all M and S coffee shops ,coffee is individually prepared so there can be a wait but the staff do their very best here.Sometimes they seem short staffed and the wait can be longer .Having worked in a M and S cafe in the past I can sympathise with them when customers grumble about the wait . Hot food is limited but usually very tasty. The staff here are always very pleasant and accommodating. The only criticism is when short staffed, the tables aren’t cleared frequently or the floors underneath swept .I feel really sorry for them at times when short staffed. Also wish serviettes were a bit larger. We do come here frequently even just for coffee.

Here for breakfast, a limited menu choice for breakfast items including prepacked baps. Service was good and when the baps were heated and delivered they tasted very fresh and good. So good quality food, satisfactory service but a limited menu.

Popped in for a quick drink of a tea and a hot choc plus a couple of millionaire shortbreads. Service was a little slow but drinks were fine. Cafe itself is basic with a unexciting decor but then it is located next to the food hall on a retail park. The only other options on the park are Costa or in Sainsbury’s. Has a variety of hot snacks plus a lunch menu too. One and half cups of tea from the small pot though.

This is a very basic cafe, no frills, just bare tables and chairs. Service is usually very slow even when there is no queue. Food varies, sometimes good, sometimes average, sometimes downright awful. We’ve given up on the jacket potatoes as they were inevitably dried up husks cooked in the morning and related to within an inch of their lives. Not recommended, especially at the price. We love their soups and enjoy the tomato soup particularly. Don't forget to ask for a little biscuit with your drink - they don’t give them to you as a matter of course, only if you request one. At least it’s handy when I go shopping. Unfortunately they do seem to have regular appliance breakdowns such as the dishwashers or the ovens or microwaves. This means they can only serve drinks and cakes. Very frustrating.

After visiting many places for afternoon tea, for the price M&S does just a good job at it. Yes ok the environment isn’t as beautiful as some high end hotel, and the generic collection of sandwiches, cakes and scones are the same but for the price and quality it’s great, £7.50 each! Defiantly worth a try if your afternoon tea fan.

Cafe is a soulless adjunct to main food hall and has the ambience and decor of an NHS hospital cafe - probably a correct observation on basis of lack of customers when we visited (as an example, camberley meadows is always full) - guess nearby competition from Costa and Sainsbury’s doesn’t help. Service was ok but unsmiling (think they’d rather be elsewhere) and prices reasonable but I didn’t notice tables being cleared/cleaned during time we were there. Food is advertised as being available in food hall and whilst it’s not bad, the ambience does not invite or tempt you (chicken/rice soup was ok). Majority of seating is inside - there is one table outside but why would you want to sit in the sun overlooking main entrance and car park?

We regularly shop at the store and sometimes pop in for lunch. They seem to have regular issues with microwaves breaking down and hot food not being available. Their jacket potatoes are both pricey and often inedible and they really should do something about this. Potatoes are obviously cooked early in the day and then reheated when ordered. This leads to them being totally dried out and tough. There is a tough crusty skin around them, which you literally can’t cut, and the potato itself is dried out and brown looking. There is very little you can actually eat. Potatoes are SO quick to cook in a commercial oven that it seems penny pinching of M and S, who offer high quality items in their shop, to serve such bad food. They are not cheap and the portions are minuscule. The potatoes are usually tiny with a minute portion of salad. Bearing in mind how cheaply they must buy the potatoes themselves it is scandalous to charge £6 and more for such a tiny meal. Customers should send them back and get a refund and maybe they will do something about it. We really enjoy their soup but the portion sizes vary enormously. Sometimes the bowl is nearly full, at other times it’s only half full. This discrepancy is not really acceptable. The tea cakes are very good, full of fruit and good value. They have a good range of cakes, and sandwiches (pricey!) too.

Dropped in for a quick lunch, as shopping in the park. OMG! 2 jacket potatoes, dried out husks, with leather for skin. It was only 12 noon but these had been kept warm for hours. Also had 2 cans of their own brand fancy soft drink. Got to the till £1.95 each! With the terrible jackets at £5 each, this was a right con. Tables dirty and not wiped and staff as engaging as statues. Avoid and go to either Sainsbury’s across the road or Costa on the other side.

This used to be, one of the best places to get your cakes and patisseries, but has gone down hill rapidly since a senior member decided to move on. Now allot of the shops are being sold off, and the prices are going up. Not the best way to do business.

My wife and I had a long weekend off work and decided on an impromptu visit to Hayling Island. Once there, and after a walk along the front we decided to look for somewhere for lunch and a quick Google search for places we could see (to check reviews) we decided to give the Olive Leaf a shot. Plenty of parking next to and behind the establishment and a welcoming entrance. Upon entering we were immediately welcomed with a friendly smile and a warm greeting. Asking for a table for two we had plant of choice and plumped for a window table. Shortly after our requested Lattes were on the table and we given plenty of time to order. After looking at the interesting menu we were both drawn to a Special on the board of Hog Roast Pie..... Sounded interesting and different. Food was served in good time and oh my word - what a well executed and delicious dish! A cold Shandy to wash it down and a lovely Cheesecake to finish. Overall a decent lunch and at a very reasonable price. The staff were great and I would definitely return and recommend. Well done Olive Leaf.

Extremely disappointed with this bar / restaurant. They are advertising on their website and on a large blackboard behind the bar that they have a daily Happy Hour for cocktail. Upon arrival and asking for a cocktail the bar manager without any sense of apology informed us that they were not doing Happy Hours or had cocktails. Strange when the bar was fully stocked with every spirit possible. Their prices were on the high side for drinks, the bar had zero atmosphere and unfriendly staff. Do not waste your time driving or walking to the ends of Hayling Island. Without doubt misrepresenting what they sell and their services.

This was my first of many Festive dinners and it did not disappoint!!! £20 for a 3 course festive dinner, with a glass of bubbly was fantastic value for money. The portions were generous, the food was very tasty, the atmosphere was friendly and the staff were attentive. If all my festive dinners go this way I will be a very happy (and full) customer. Highly recommended and I will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much Cas (Caroline)
