First time shopping at Marina Hartlepool food hall but wanted to say how great ALL the staff here are. We ate in the cafe (me and my disabled mum) and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful to us both with various requests. At the till, the cashier was also friendly and helpful. Don't always leave an ad hoc review but today staff were all so lovely felt it was more than justified. Thank you Hartlepool staff, spot on.

I'm absolutely shocked by how bad this store was! The first time I've shopped here and it was off the back of my own recommendation to the family after my previous experiences of M&S up and down the country but I was left far from pleased. I walked my family out half way through the shop and vowed never to give my business again! I'm all about customer satisfaction so if M&S want a hands on business development manager then I'd be happy to HELP

Pop in here quite regularly for coffee, Clean place, friendly staff, with normal high quality M & S cafe. They don’t serve the full menu like the larger store cafes, but still good quality.

Went for coffee last Sunday afternoon after shopping. My sister decided on the advertised hot cross bun and tea only to be told by the rather unpleasant server that it wasn't available because the ovens had been turned off as the cafe closed at 3:30pm (it was only 3:10pm and the shop was open until 4pm) so we ordered coffees. The server then had to call someone over to open the till because it had been locked. It gave the impression that they wanted to get home quickly and never mind the customers. We then sat down at the only table which had comfortable chairs near the window but it was freezing. Our coffees were barely warm and we left the cafe after less than 10 minutes. 3 coffees cost nearly £9 - total rip off

Popped in here on many occasions, mainly for a bowl of soup for lunch, you get 3 little buns and butter with it. Not cheap meal out once you add a coffee on but very nice. All heated up and premade toasties to be warmed up etc but same as all m&s cafes. Wouldn’t buy a full meal here just soup or scone as seen other peoples meals and they seem quite average for cost. Staff usually friendly and not a massive wait for food even when busy. Only problem is where the cafes situated right near the front doors it can be freezing with the Baltic draught even if you get a sheltered table away from the doors. Layout of stores not staffs fault and doesn’t affect food so not knocking a point off though it does put me off going in on windy cold days.

Sorry but have to agree with other reviewers, coffee and tea not up tea is good, food hit and miss. Not the usual quality of other M & S stores, also sad they do not do the Afternoon Tea !

This small cafe is very good for coffee lovers. However, the food is very hit and miss. Often there are basic products which should be available every day, all day, (eg scones) sold out by lunchtime. The decor is poor with uncomfortable chairs. One to miss.

Nipped in here for a cuppa before shopping, you get a lovely cup of tea probley the best I've had in a cafe on the marina, there isn't much choice in the way of hot food or sandwiches and they are on the expensive side,, we had a scone which are beautiful as are the cakes, it does seem a bit on the noisy side but think the building is echoey so you don't feel like you can relax

I've called into M&S a few times over recent weeks and enjoyed a consistently good flat white and a bacon bap. Café is bright, airy and clean, and the service has varied from dour to friendly (but never unfriendly). Much of the food served is available from the M&S shelves - so you know what you're getting in the way of quality. And, if you overlook the intervening car park, you get a nice view of the historic quay and HMS Trincomalee.

Called in for lunch usual good choice of food but the problem lay with the person who served us. Not the usual standard she was very brusque and ignored the problem I have when trying to handover the money I use two elbow crutches and therefore cannot reach across - disappointing service and attitude.

Myself and wife just popped in to the cafe, based at the Hartlepool Marina the Cafe does not cater for as much as larger city stores. However? staff are very polite, cafe was clean and tidy, prices a tad high, but all in all a nice place for a quick tea and coffee.

I visit the cafe quite regularly and have finally found a cafe that can make hot coffee. I have been reading the reviews and I don't agree about the staff they have always been pleasant and willing to help. I think what a lot of people maybe font realise is that the staff have never worked in this area before they moved and they are doing a good job and have adapted very well. I do however agree about the air conditioning being noisy but it's a small price to pay for hot coffee.

Food is excellent but not a great deal of choice. Also they offer food for children but no suitable cutlery for them.

The food may be OK but at the price I would expect the comfortable anime titis of a proper cafe. It has the atmosphere and comfort of a staff canteen with tasteless adverts to speed you on your way. Better is easily available locally You are paying for the name.

Toasties were tasty. Drinks very expensive. But the staff were the worst thing about the place! Snobby is the only word I can comment.

Although I was disappointed when they closed their store in Middleton Grange I was pleased when I heard that M and S could still have a presence in the town with their move near to the Marina.Whilst the store is now food only and does not sell clothing it does now have a restaurant. We have visited the restaurant on three occasions and overall have found it disappointing particularly in contrast to their restaurant in Thornaby's Teesside Park.It took a few minutes to find a table that was clean and did not have the cups/plates etc of the previous customers and even then the table we chose had only been given a half hearted wipe down. I got the impression that some of the staff would rather be somewhere else. Not particularly customer focussed, again unlike Thornaby/Bishop Auckland branches. That aside my main gripe was the general surroundings of the whole shop. It was not far off like being in the interior of and Industrial building that you would see on a trading estate.I was expecting to see a group of welders working away in the corner. When you look upwards, which cannot be avoided as you are trying to identify the source from where all the noise is coming from. Instead of seeing ceiling tiles the view that greets you is large pipes/extraction units/wires etc all of which to my mind should be hidden away from view. I would image over time this pipework would gather a fair bit of dust and could become a hygiene issue. The walls are breeze block and some additional lighting would not be amiss. The whole thing looks as if it has been done on the cheap. On our first visit here I mentioned how cold it was in the store to one of the staff who was wearing a fleece jacket with her back against a radiator and she said she told me that she was on her break trying to keep warm! The store itself is okay to nip in and out for food shopping but unless I hear it improves greatly I will give the restaurant a skip

Have visited this cafe on several occasions. The problem is always the same - great food and coffee, but slow unfriendly service. The staff give one the feeling they are doing you a favour by offering to serve you! A change in attitude, or a change in staff, is required at this establishment - and soon!!!!

The cafe is quite cold. The last time i visited was on a morning and i fancied a nice bacon, egg and mushroom sandwich, which i asked for, the person who was serving me said they had no mushrooms and the egg they had was scrambled, she was about to microwave the bacon and egg when i asked do you not cook fresh, they did notthis was my Que to exit never to return.

This store and cafe has very recently opened. In I went today for the first time. Had a very enjoyable coffee and cheese scone. Only problem ( and I mentioned it to a staff member ) is the noise of the air conditioning. Much too loud.

Disgusting slop.. cold and tasteless food … toilets are filthy & and stink. The manageress is a sour faced woman who has literally ran the place to the ground. It used to be packed now its empty .. that speaks volumes.

After visiting The Black Olive numerous times for lunch and being overly impressed each time with the menu, we thought we would choose it as a venue for our Annual Family Christmas Meal- and we were not disappointed! Absolutely gorgeous food full of flavour and portion sizes were spot on. The beef was cooked beautifully and we couldn't get enough of the cookies and cream cheesecake! We were a large party of 21 and each one of us walked out satisfied (and stuffed!). Staff were all so friendly and kept the evening running smoothly by checking to see if everything was okay- Even the Head Chef stopped by to check in on us! Thank you all. Can't wait for our next visit, we'll definitely be back!
