Normally my friend and I love our visits to the M&S cafe. However, today we went in the hopes of having a toastie with gravy with some gingerbread frappes. However, there was no gravy or toasties. We had already ordered our toasties and the order went through and we started waiting, only for them to tell us they had ran out. The station was also severely understaffed, and the staff there seemed clueless. They struggled to do a refund leading to us being given cash instead. We waited for the gingerbread frappes anyway and they were simply horrible. Very artificial. Just an overall waste of time and money.

Ordered the breakfast and a pot of tea. When the breakfast arrived the bacon was extremely salty and over cooked, the sausages were dry and over cooked, toast was barely warm as we're the baked beans. I was extremely disappointed at a cost of £11.45 in total, what a waste of money. Will never have breakfast again.

I ordered the big breakfast, which is a tenner plus when including a pot of tea. The breakfast was well presented with two poached eggs, bacon, two sausages, potato rosti, baked beans and sourdough toast. Unfortunately it was, at best, almost cold. I asked the server if it could be "popped in the microwave for a minute or two", though expecting in reality, to get a freshly prepared meal. My meal was returned and indeed the eggs had obviously been removed from the plate while it was reheated. The cold eggs were then returned to the plate and delivered back to me. So cold eggs and still barely tepid food. To be fair the sausages were excellent and I ate these, though most of the other ingredients were left on my plate. My almost full plate was removed by the server with no comment. A very poor show, although my partner did enjoy her seafood selection sandwich. So while she finished her brunch I popped across to Greggs and had a lovely, hot sausage roll. I should certainly have gone there first! So in summary a star each for the very good sausages - must try harder M&S.

The cashier just left the till half way through taking my order, came back 5 minutes later to start over. Sullen. Tables and floors were filthy. 30 minutes wait. Awful place

I visited the optician after a very nice woman in M&S explained about the service. However, the whole experience was horribly rushed and I felt the staff were rushing me through as fast as possible to achieve some targets.

With very limited choice, I ordered poached eggs on toast. The order arrived in a BOWL which was stone cold. The two eggs were cold. The toast looked like lace - full of holes - more holes than bread and inedible unless I wanted to break my teeth.

Has been a while since I last visited but regrettably it is going to be a long time before I return. Although the toasted tea cake was as good as ever the coffee was the worst I have had in a long time with no discernible coffee taste at all. It didn't help that the server, who was trying to train new staff at a very busy time, forgot I ordered cappuccinos. The first attempts were made in large glasses and were in fact lattes, which we don't like. Second attempts served in the same glasses were supposedly cappuccinos but seemed like hot milk with no coffee taste. Third attempts were at least in proper cups but only marginally better. Prices have gone up substantially and the product is not worth the money. I recommend Costa in Next as a much better experience in terms of professionalism, drink quality, ambience and value for money. One star awarded for the very good tea cake.

It’s taken me a while to write this review but I think it’s needed I took three children 9, 7 and 5 to the cafe for lunch. We ordered three children's meals and a toasty It was not busy I would say half the seats were full. We waited 1hour for our food when I came it was cold and there was no cutlery I asked the staff for some they said they didn’t have anymore my children had food you need a fork to eat like pasta and jacket potatoes another 30mins went past no cutlery and no sign of anyone bringing any In the end I left they didn’t eat and we went to McDonald’s over the road It’s a sad day when McDonald’s was a joy to go to over mns

Very disappointed. Not nearly as good as the store we usually visit. The avocado and halloumi roll (which I’ve had at other stores) had icy cold avocado in it and the halloumi wasn’t warm or toasted. Really not appealing for breakfast. The sourdough toast was rock hard, dry and almost inedible. It is too ‘savoury’ for with marmalade. Dreadful music too. I wish M&S would be more consistent. Thinking about the cafes more generally, we also preferred proper cups with saucers. These weird hybrid cup/ mugs just keep the coffee hot for too long. And why only offer sourdough toast-how much more effort is it to offer customers a choice? I sometimes think M&S is losing touch with customers and changing things for the sake of it.

I sat in the cafe opposite the hatch and have never seen or heard the level of unprofessionalism, as demonstrated today. Customers can sit looking out of the window about 6 feet from the hatch and can hear, see and witness all that is happening. In one word, appalling. Here’s why.., 1. Swearing. Lots of it. An elderly couple luckily smiled and laughed at hearing the F word. They could have been offended. Others would have been. 2. Chaos. No one seems to know what they are doing. Where the food should go, why they are out of avocado or who is supposed to be doing what. 3. An elderly lady walked over the hatch to give them feedback - ‘That was the worst toasted sandwich I have ever had’, she said. The reply? ‘Ok’ and she walked away. 4. The young lad is wearing a hair net on the back of his head. Probably covering 20% of his hair. Does he know the point of a hair net? 5. A woman brought her soup to the hatch and said, ‘It’s too cold to eat’. She was met with a mediocre response about sorting the problem. 6. Two colleagues exchanged a difficult conversation At the hatch. The inside the hatch person threw a screwed-up receipt at the other and then the receiver of the receipt walked away. 7. A woman said to a colleague that there was no water. The colleagues reported this to the hatch and were met with, ‘Yeah, I couldn’t be arsed’. This is supposed to be M&S. If I could recognise who was running this debacle, I would have said. I could not, so I didn't.

We stopped at the Banbury Gateway store for breakfast en route to a short break in the area.. The store was very light and airy and well stocked. The food hall was very impressive and we had a good look around before heading to the restaurant. My husband had a full breakfast and I had toast and coffee. We were very impressed with the gadget that we were given to alert the staff where we were to deliver our food. The order was prepared promptly and my husband soon made quick work of demolishing his bacon, egg, beans and toast. Nice atmosphere and very clean and spacious. To top it all the toilets were the best we have ever seen in a Marks and Spencer store. Just wish we lived closer as we would have liked to spend more time browsing. Top marks to Marks and Spencer!! Had wait in the queue to order for 20 minutes, they were not particularly busy but the person taking the orders and payment also had to make the hot drinks therefore the queue moved very very slowly. No apologies for the long wait. Ordered toasted tea cakes but they were sold out and no alternative suggested. (dozens of tea cakes in the food hall downstairs) The drinks are expensive. Will avoid this cafe in future.

There was not one clear table. Every one was covered by used plates and cups. You need to employ people to clean especially in these Covid times. When a lady did come out of the staff room she put things very neatly on her trolley but did not seem to wipe down or sanitize and she only managed to clean three tables before disappearing again. Very poor M and S

Have previously been to the town store for lunch, which was lovely, we tried the Gateway store for breakfast. It was the worst one we have ever had. We were given coffee instead of tea, which was undrinkable, the bacon was not cooked, mushrooms slimy, sausage over cooked, my toast was hard and crispy and the "scrambled egg" was just a lump of congealed hard mess. We left without eating it. The only good point was the staff were polite and friendly, which is a shame, this should a nice place to eat. Overall, don't go, it's expensive and a total waste of money.

The coffee making staff were fine. Later was approached at our table by a female staff member who objected to us eating the salad bought in the M&S food hall at the table. Lots of other empty tables so it was unnecessary to point out in a patronising manner that we can only eat food in the cafe when we had already invested money into M&S in the cafe, food hall and homeware section. Unfortunate attitude this person who decided to put her energy into interrupting our rare, precious time together in order to make a trivial point. M&S maybe need to improve the training on interpersonal skills and reading individual situations.

I wish I had the name of the girl who served me, she was blonde (I think!!) Shoulder length hair, I was there at 3:45-4pm on the 25th November. She got through the queue quickly but didn't make anyone feel rushed. I was on the phone when I got to the counter so I quickly hung up and said "I don't want anyone to know I'm at a cafe! I'm supposed to be working!" She really kindly said "You deserve a break and a treat! What can I get for you?". No one ever tells me I deserve a break! It was the best thing I'd heard all day She was pleasant, polite and smiled the whole time. Even though she probably fancied a break too! These nice exchanges are what customers go out for, we could all have a cup of tea at home but to spoken to so kindly and made to feel valued is what makes someone's day.I hope she gets the recognition she deserves for being so good at her job and so personable and helpful. Also, the cake was AMAZING! I wish my phone hadn't rang while I was eating it... now I'll have to go back and do it again with my phone turned off!Thank you so much, I'll be back soon

This was our worst experience of this cafe which is normally quite good.. I encountered an unfriendly, bordering on bolshie, server in a red T shirt who professed not to know anything about an "extra hot" coffee which we have ordered countless times before and seemed prepared to argue the point. A request for the little biscuits to go with the drinks was met with "you should have asked for them at the till" but she did obtain them, albeit grudgingly.All this is a great shame, given that the coffee was ok, hot but not extra hot, and the toasted tea cakes as excellent as ever. What a pity that the overall cafe experience was spoiled by this server. Normally M & S prides itself on friendly and courteous service.If the management would like to take up the matter with this employee this took place at around 10: 15 am.We won't be returning at any time soon

Called in while shopping had the fish and chips which was very nice, it was fairly late in the day so pretty quiet, have been when very busy and can be fairly slow but on this occasion totally fine

Just stopped off for a quick cup of tea - what can go wrong? The tea was lukewarm and the cup had to be returned as it wasn’t clean.Worse though was the fact I was sat in an almost empty restaurant, just finished my drink when I was asked if they could clear my table! Nothing like feeling rushed when there is no need

My husband and I've been to this cafe on several occasion when we travel from Scotland to London.Every time its gets worse. We go back hoping it has improved.Staff at the check-out taking your meal order is not friendly.Like they are doing you a favour taking your order.There is never a long wait for the food.We had the spicy lentil soup and the Chicken chz rice soup.Not very good. This time I asked if the soup was out of a tin or home-made.The chef come out to our table to tell me he makes the soup himself no tins.Not sure if we'll go back to the cafe.

We decided to pop into Marks and Spencers cafe instead of going to Costa for lunch. I was surprised at the cost of all food, the toasties were over £4 each and sandwiches were £3.65. I ordered a bowl of chips as did not fancy any of the sandwiches. My partner had a sandwich of egg and mayo which was very salty. My bowl of chips was just pathetic, an extremely small bowl with very chunky chips, there were 9 chips in total. In future we will go elsewhere for lunch.

What do you expect? It’s the same in every M&S. A drink and a snack. Fine for us. The staff were friendly, there are tables for people with disabilities.

My husband and I popped in earlier with our daughter and decided to have breakfast- what a mistake, we spent £20 and it was just terrible.

If shopping over at the gateway business park general call in for a coffee and occasionally a toastie on this occasion picked the crispy chicken burger and found it adequate and okay value I just feel it lacks the staff

Yuck! I ordered a full English breakfast. The lady on the till said it would be scrambled egg as they didn’t have poached, not a huge problem.....

We have visited here several times, from brand new until now and it is always awful! “Why go back?” I hear you ask, well first off we put it down to teething problems with it being new and getting into the swing of it but now a couple of years on you can see that it just complete lack of organization and customer service from the top down.

Coffee was fine but when we went to find a table we realised the cafe was like a graveyard for used cups, saucers and plates. Every table was loaded up with dirty cups etc it looked disgusting. Come on Marks you can do better than this

A surly senior member of staff (management we suspect) ended up wandering around the cafe asking people what they were waiting on! Not a pleasant experience, nothing like we expect from M&S;.

Dirty, cluttered and unmotivated staff that ask for you to give them 5 stars on their review! You need to clear a table, make sure your chair isn't covered it crumbs before you get to enjoy your drink out of a glass that you have to request or paper cup (not good for the environment - got to say Waitrose are not using disposable cups). That's if you have made it to a table without slipping on something unrecognisable on the floor!

It’s Mand S the food and drinks are always good . The time in queues at the till could be quicker . Staff are always friendly and always offer my assistance dog water .

During a visit by my wife and I, early on Wednesday 21st February. Harley was on duty and provided exceptional service in very difficult circumstances on her own until a Senior Manager came to help her.

25 minutes for a bowl of soup which never came, when complained the manager was rude explaining we only have one microwave! YUK! He was argumentative and completely useless You would expect a certain standard but all expectations were lost

Two staff stood at the till talking for our entire visit, one lady with blonde curly hair ran around trying to do everything. We were sat on the table closest to the kitchen so we could see meals going cold on the side while no one came to collect them. Two of them turned out to be ours, as a result the toastie had gone soggy.

Unfortunately this isn't the best experience. The tables are seldom cleared/cleaned and more often than not I've had to do this myself before I can sit down. The food is average. Several times I've ordered soup and the wrong soup has been brought out. The baked potato fillings are a bit on the stingy side. The side salads have usually seen better days.

The cafe was quiet so, unsurprisingly, service was prompt. It was also acceptably friendly - but no more. There were quite a few uncleared tables when we arrived but these were soon dealt with. The place was clean and tidy. The food was exactly what you'd expect form an M&S; cafe - OK but unexciting. we thought the bill was a bit steep: £19 for two medium coffees, a sandwich, a toasted sandwich, one bag of crisps and two small fruit pots. Overall this is a useful place for a snack if you're shopping in Marks and you're peckish but otherwise don't go out of your way!

Quality throughout the store including clothing, which is stylish for all ages, food lots of fresh produce and other produce to choose from, and household items. The store is laid out very well, and is light and roomy to move around in. Very good restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Popped in for drink (two smoothies) and they gave us a high tech waiting device for their queue. Waited 20 minutes before a member of staff stumbled on us and took away the waiting device. They returned shortly with something which might have been a smoothie 20 minutes ago, but is just juice now. Disappointing as it wasn't that busy

Two staff on tills/coffee serving in excess of 20 people, those that are here just walk off with no explanation and moan that they are only one person. No apology for those that have waited ages. Tables in a mess, you expect better from M&S;.
