Following a lunch at Mark's and spencer torquay, I bought two cappuccinos for myself and a friend. Because the froth on top of cappuccino flattens and cools the drink, I asked for a jug of hot water to top them up. Disappointingly and surprisingly I was charged 90p for this! Come on M&S. Your coffees and food are not cheap. Paying 90p for hot water is very poor.

My friend and I both had soup which was tasty however really small portion like 1 ladle and no roll which used to come with it. Bit expensive for what you get and big queue. Come on M&S get if sorted.

Shocking as usual, always willing to give them a second chance as café handy for a break from shopping, but yesterday proved no different. Arranged to have lunch early around 12.30 to avoid the queue. Told half an hour wait for hot food from a very disgruntled member of staff, and service and payment for 2 slices of cake and Tea proved just as unpleasant. Will the Manager of the café please take notice and treat your customers with respect, as you would have us treat you. And do something about the wretched queue, it gets people agitated if they have to be herded like sheep from the children's department to the tills, which can take up to half an hour on a bad day. You have been emailing me, inviting me to have lunch with all kinds of tempting hot food, it does not say it's not available at The Willows Torquay on a Thursday when there's a staff shortage or similar excuse. So M and S no thank you, not until you improve and consider your customers worth looking after.

The cafe has really gone down hill. Only 2 tills now. Have to queue at the cake stand and not allowed to approach the till until the customer in front has left. Prices have gone up but food quality gone down. Hardly any garnish and no thought to presentation at all. No saucers with tea cups even though you get a teapot, it’d be better if you got a proper mug of tea. Items ate often out of stock, went for breakfast and no yoghurt and granola. Ordered a Christmas toastie, out of stock. Ordered a wrap, out of stock. Ordered Quiche which was in stock but the coleslaw garnish was out of stock! But no discount despite there being no coleslaw on the plate. It just feels really miserable and unloved now and expensive.

What an unpleasant experience it is just trying to get refreshments in the cafe. So bad last couple of times I gave up. The queue stretched into the childrens department even though few people were in the food area. Is it a new policy to make us wait outside this area where it blocks access to the Toilets and part of the department for other customers ? Don't even get me started on teacups without sauces, no where to put a spoon except on the tray ? Whose in charge of this madness ? Perhaps if we shop elsewhere someone may notice ? Not at Mand S, they don't care.

Can rely on this cafe for a high standard of snack food and quality coffee. Usually has a nice, buzzy atmosphere. Adds to the overall shopping experience at The Willows. At peak times, though, slow service can spoil it. Staff always pleasant.

Expensive. Busy. Tight on space. Won’t attempt with kids again. Just too long a wait in the queue and too overwhelmingly busy. Cakes were nice.

We try and go there once a week for coffee and cake. It is always busy and you do wait a while. The tables are always dirty because the staff do not clean then enough. You see people moving dirty cups and plates to other tables so they can sit down. They need more staff. I love the food but it needs to be cleaner.

M&S coffee shop....I expected better. One till not working....husband queued 40 minutes for one coffee, One tea. Appalling wait, we had not ordered food. Place very busy and popular and clean, no easy task given customer turnover. Not many smiles from staff, I thought they were supposed to have training in impeccable customer service?! Most looked fed up!

Went there today with the family. I decided to try their Christmas Dinner. Oh dear God. If this was meant to help celebrate the birth of Jesus, these people can expect a bolt of lightning any time. The portions were minute. I got three tiny sprouts, A few measly carrots, a couple of dried up roast potatoes. One equally dry Yorkshire Puddings and some tasteless turkey in watery gravy. This cost £8.95 and was truly awful. What a rip off. Be warned.I have had some nice meals in this place before. This wasn’t one of them. I feel like they have stolen my money.

Came here today and cannot believe that for a business as big as M&S there was no Gluten Free Sandwiches on offer. Having Celiac disease its not sonething i can risk having a normal samdwich. I ask at the checkout point to be told "ill look in the fridge out the back" .. i told her not to bother surely they should be on display and i dont hold much hope as there was no space on the shelves for it. Absoulty appauling ...

my wife and i went to M&S yesterday. i had looked at previous reviews as we were going to have something to eat before we started to shop. most reviews were spot on. i have never eaten in an M&S store before, but had heard over decades that their food was good. to be honest it was Ok. The price of tea for two and a couple of bacon baps was what i expected to pay. We arrived around 10am and the cafe was already very busy with long ques. i went to find a seat while my wife Que to get the tea and baps. 15 mins later she got to the table. tea tray in hand but no food, that was delivered to the table 5 mins later. the downside to this store is that it attracts the elderly on mass. so there were goodness knows how many people all shouting over each other to be heard. we had the misfortune of only getting a seat by the crockery return area where the staff were more than happy to sling cups and plates into racks. this added to the noise. so, will i go to M&S cafe again. Probably not.

Me and my grandma popped in for lunch. We had crisps, bakewell tart, cheese jacket potato, chicken burger and ice cream sundae. Food was delicious, one of the best chicken burgers I've ever had! So delicious. Very reasonable pricing, £5 for a burger, £5 for a jacket, £2.50 for a 3 scoop ice cream. Such good value. Employees were friendly and helpful. Will go back very soon.

As usual an incredibly long and slow queue to order and pay for a coffee. Next the decision of which of the dirty and cluttered tables to sit at!I cleared a table and sat for about 15 - 20 minutes reading the paper. When I left the tables around me had still not been cleared. This has to be one of the worst M&S cafes in the country. If anyone from M&S reads any of these reviews PLEASE employ enough staff to run the cafe properly. You are really letting the M&S brand down.

Always a queue. Always difficult to get a table. I've nopticved disappearanc e of little biscuits that used to come on saucer with coffee etc, cards to collect points to get hot drink for free when card was full, no tea & cake with my M&S; bank account. Apart from a very few bits like scone & butter, apple turnover, the price of pieces of cake are astronomical.Rainbow cake was less half the size of the piece than others.

Great for a coffee if you have lots of time to kill. The number of times only one till is working with queues outside the door is ridiculous. The staff are friendly under difficult circumstances but the management really need to get a grip. Perhaps they are just happy to rake in the money as it is always busy.

I thought we’d turned a corner having visited on a Saturday a few weeks back to find different staff, but midweek is back to the same abysmal service. They have an automated system, and if you don’t use it, the staff will quite cheerfully ignore you standing at the counter for 10 minutes, even an elderly gentleman on crutches. After finally being served, we sat for a further 20 odd minutes waiting for the food, which was stone cold when it arrived. I say arrived, but it was practically thrown at us. I can’t even describe how awful the service is in this place during the week. Rude, incompetent staff.

Food was good and reasonably priced, typical cafe menu and food. What’s sets this apart is the wonderful view from the terrace, we could have spent ages up there watching boats and jet skis in the sunshine

I have to say, this was the most interesting coffee stop I’ve experienced. Excusing the 80’s decor, which is quite comical and endearing in a Victorian seaside town, the set-up of this establishment is somewhat unique. On arrival there was no covid secure guidelines in place, no masks being work by staff, no sanitiser on arrival and no one way system. We ordered two cream teas, now, given we are in Devon, famous for fresh produce, pastry and good food, the last thing I expected was a microwaved scone as you watched. The score was supermarket bough, and yes microwaved (in case you didn’t read right first time) and the clotted cream, cheap thaw and serve. Equally the cheap Jam (from Brakes) was not what I expected. Come on, it’s a decent venue, put some effort into what your serve. For £5 tea and scone you could locally buy scones (sold at the bakery down the road) and buy some local cream or jam with provenance from one of the local food markets. Really could make more of an effort. On the plus side the cakes did look like effort had been made but didn’t try.

Mostly a locals bar as that's their mainstay, but catering for tourists also as it's next to the car park and bus terminal. Nice atmosphere, decor and a decent pint.
