My wife and I are keen supporters of the high street and we always shop on the high street than shop online where possible. However, my wife was wrongly accused of shoplifting yesterday at the M&S store in midsummer boulevard, Milton Keynes, when she was in the alcohol aisle and she spilt some water on the floor. She did the decent thing to clean this up and instead of m&s security asking if she was ok, they suspected and accused her of shoplifting of alcohol (without any evidence) as we exited the store. The manager at the time, Lucy, showed lack of customer service skills and didn’t even acknowledge how we were feeling and no apologies but excuses that they do spot checks . It took 10mins to get an apology from the security guard who was at fault and nothing from Lucy. If this the way people are treated then this is why online shopping is far better and people are not being judged of looking like criminals as they walk into a shop. M&S - you can learn some customer service skills from other leading brands who do it better. You have lost a long standing customer!

Our visit to M&S Foodhall at Centre MK was a total low-grade spectacle. The staff at Customer Services desk are shocking to deal with. It was like being in an expensive version of Poundland. M&S advertise Dine-In for 2 very popularly on TV and elsewhere. What they don't advertise in a clearly understandable and readable language is that you cannot mix the Dine-in-for-2 offers from one section (e.g. Italian) with another section (e.g. Chinese). If you do that, you will be charged the full fee. For an end-customer, all of the items on red tickets are part of Dine-In-For-2 meals - only to realise at the self-checkout that you have been charged much more than the Dine-In-For-2 advertisements! We complained to the Customer Services that this information wasn't clearly advertised. Back in the day, you would get the price that the item was advertised on the shelf for. But M&S seem to have a new rule - "you're most welcome to get a refund". Other customers were also in the queue at Customer Services Desk complaining about the same thing, and there were quite some heated up scenes where the store manager simply said that the way things are advertised were not his problem! The behaviour of M&S Foodhall management was shocking, and low-grade. That's what I'd expect in places such as Poundland, and it looks like M&S benchmark their management against these low-cost shops. I refuse to go back to M&S Foodhall in Milton Keynes.

Popped in for breakfast. Was not busy. Polite and chatty service which was prompt. Eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly. Yoghurt granola fresh and tasty. Plenty of seats. Was clean and tidy. Was tempted to have the single bean coffee version. Tasted no different though? Not the most aesthetic of places but was decent food and a decent price with friendly service.

It is the first time that I had been to this restaurant. We needed something quick and easy whilst we took a break from shopping. Yes, it was a busy lunchtime. However, the queue to order food moved quickly and we readily found a table that was promptly cleaned. Some great offers are published whilst waiting to order. Once ordered, you’re given a number and the food is then brought to the table. We waited less than 10 mins. The food was packed with flavour and was totally delicious! We’ll definitely stop here again!

Popped in for lunch, it was very busy and we had difficultly finding a free table. It was incredibility slow to place the order, the 2 staff members were in no hurry, but we paid and waited for the drinks. I ordered a pot of tea, but was given a paper cup with 2 tea bags in it. When I queried this they said they are not doing pots, despite a rack of tea pots on the counter. Another customer was complaining how wasteful this was, single use containers are not very environmentally friendly. Then had to ask for milk which was poured into another paper cup. At this point they said there would be a 30 min wait for the food. Why didn't they say this when I was placing the order. The food when it arrived tasted OK but was lukewarm. All in all a very poor experience.

I was looking for the superseed crackers (the keto ones) for quite a while and then decided to ask this girl that was sorting the shelves if she could help me locate them. She looked wherever she thought they'd have them but they were unfortunately out of stock. I asked her about other M&Ss in the area and if they'd have it and she straight away went to her manager who surpringly called a different store to ask them to check if they have it in stock so that we didn't waste a trip for no reason. He was so polite and I'm sure he had other things to get done but did not once look indisposed or annoyed that he had to wait on hold until the other store picked up. Luckily, the other store had it in stock and he also went as far as explaining the directions to that sore which I thought was outstanding. It was the end of our shopping trip and to be be quite honest, it put a massive smile on my face that people like that still exist and their kindness, politeness and willingness to help warmed my heart! I wish I paid attention to their name tags bevause the list I can do is give them a little shout-out!!!!!

We went into the cafe for a coffee and cake on July 4th...first day after lockdown restrictions were eased. The assistant on the door was polite and instructed us in a very helpful manner how the restaurant was working. We sat down and enjoyed our coffee and cake. We then noticed that a table opposite us had scrambled egg and toast. After they had finished it became apparent that some of the egg had spilled on to the floor. After they had left the assistant cleaned the table and noticed the spilled egg..We imagined that she would return to finish the cleaning process.Unfortunatly this did not happen. As the strict hygiene measures are in place at this time we were shocked and dismayed at this lack of care....it is day one....not a very good start.

Visited the upstairs café on Sunday 15th March for a cup of tea. Whilst I drank my tea I sat and watched the staff member who was serving drinks repeatedly help herself to the biscuits under the counter, constantly wiping her mouth, licking her fingers (no gloves) and grooming her hair. This lack of basic hygiene would be a worry at the best of times, but in the current Corona situation it is disgusting. Will not be returning. In my opinion the risk is not worth it!!

It's great to be able to rely on somewhere to eat, have a sit-down and relax, in a good cafe or restaurant when you go shopping. Such can be said of Marks and Spencer's café here in the shopping centre in Milton Keynes. What tends to put me off is seeing a long queue and having to wait an inexorably long time. It seems that M and S have got this covered. The staff know what they are doing and the wait isn't too bad. Slow service is enough to put off most customers, particularly those who are either in a hurry or just want to sit down and eat. I ordered my, by now, favourite, a ham and cheese toasty. Also, a salted caramel latte. I have to say I am rather fond of this and definitely one of the best I've experienced in quite a while. Marks out of ten? I would say a definite ten, so well done M and S and the young man who created it as well as great presentation. None slopped in the saucer, which is quite a feat. Then, having found a place to sit, my toasty arrived quickly and I could sit and eat and drink. Tables keep clear and uncluttered. No need for me to remove any debris from my table before I sat down. Most annoying when you are expected to sit with past customers left-overs. Also, none of that annoying, mind-numbing music which most establishments seem to think is necessary. In my case, definitely not. If it must be played, please make sure it's at a level that doesn't interfere with conversation. All in all a pleasant experience and I shall no doubt return on a later occasion.

My wife and I had a rather less than satisfactory experience at the M & S Café in the Milton Keynes Centre MK store today. We arrived at about 1.30 pm. I ordered fish and chips. My wife wanted soup, but was unable to have it as it was not gluten-free. Soup in restaurants should always be gluten-free, it only means using a gluten-free flour, such as corn flour, instead of wheat flour. We sat down to await the food, and were then approached by a member of staff who told us that the fish was out of stock, and that checkout had been told this an hour beforehand, but were still taking orders for it. This is not the first time we have encountered menu items being out of stock at lunchtime. How on earth does the café run out of a basic menu item? Surely they should have ample stocks so that this does not happen? We have in the past queried why they can’t just go down to the Foodhall and get some more, but have been told that the café’s stocks are delivered separately from those of the Foodhall, and they are not allowed to restock from the Foodhall. What a ridiculous situation. I changed my order to a fish finger sandwich. Then while we were still waiting for the food to be delivered the table tipped violently and spilled our tea and coffee everywhere. It was a 2-seat table, with a round base supported on rubber feet. One of the feet must have been missing, allowing the table to tilt. This was reported to a member of staff, and we moved to another table. The table and chairs were eventually cleaned, but nothing was done about the table’s instability. When our food arrived we picked up our cutlery and noticed that it was not clean, and we had to go and sort through the cutlery to find some that was clean. There was plenty of cutlery in the containers that was not clean. This was reported to a staff member. In general, there did not seem to be as many staff as there used to be, and the tables were not cleared very quickly. In retrospect we should have insisted on seeing a manager, but we had had enough and just wanted to get out of the store. When we got home my wife remarked that the fish finger sandwich was rather expensive, as she had only been refunded 50p for my change of order from fish and chips to a fish finger sandwich. As far as I can recall the price of the sandwich on the menu board was £5.50, so there should have been a £3 refund.

Two months ago I visited this pleasant M&S Cafe and was very happy. I chose the same food again today, with the addition of a side order of chips, and was disappointed. The friendly welcoming service was fine. Service was quick, which no doubt reflected on it being 4.00pm and very quiet. The large soya latte was excellent. The chips were hot, criso and well cooked inside. The fish finger sandwich was a huge disappointment. It even appeared visually poorer if you compare the photo with this review and that with my review in January. There appeared to be less fish finger this time. The bread was very ordinary white bloomer with neither a great taste nor texture. There was little mayo in the sandwich and just a few stems of a green leaf that looked, but did not taste, like water cress. The serving of coleslaw was smaller and the slice of pickled gherkin was missing.I doubt I will return.

It's the same old story. I've seen that in my last review of the café at M&S in the MK Shopping centre that it was virtually impossible to find anywhere to eat, mid-week. So I thought i'd try the café in this particular branch again and, hey-presto! There wasn't a long queue at the service counter or till. I ordered a cheese and ham toast, a rather delicious piece of coffee cake (how can you resist? Queing right next to the display of cakes, not too easy to resist? As someone said, possibly Oscar Wilde, 'I never could resist temptation,' or if it wasn't him, it ought to have been. I was served relatively quickly, by a staff who did at least acknowledge my existence as a customer. Take note, other eateries. Your staff can be incredibly slopping and inattentive and don't always look as if they're particularly interested in what they're doing. Fatal to a business, surely, particularly in this day and age with so many businesses on the high street going out of business. At least it appears that Marks and Spencer train their staff well and they concentrate on customer service. If I don't like using a particular business it's often down to really sloppy customer care. Keeping customers waiting, making mistakes with an order, poor attention to detail, such as tea or coffee slopped in the saucer or other little mistakes really puts me off returning to that particular business. So, take note. The tables are kept clean and plates and cups and other debris is removed promptly and there were plenty of vacant seats available.

M&S dont deserve customers in their cafes and the only reason I go there is because I receive vouchers with their account. This cafe is the same as the rest of them, a long wait of at least 15 minutes to get a hot drink, tables not cleared and miserable looking staff. I do not understand why they have only one person taking the order and making the hot drinks and handling cash, it can only make service slow.We ended up rushing our food because we were running out of expensive parking time. Finally, it was January and the cafe was very cold and did not appear to have any heating.

Just after midday Friday and I had a click and collect to pick up at M&S in CMK. Initial plan was for a coffee first. I enquired if they did soya milk and was assured they did and ordered a soya latte (£2.75). I then looked up at the menu and was tempted by the fish finger sandwich (£5.50) and ordered one. The coffee was excellent. The fish finger sandwich took a little while to prepare and was served on white bloomer bread with mayo (I would have liked more mayo) and some greenery inside and a decent serving of good coleslaw and a slice of pickle on the side. The fish fingers were lovely and the breadcrumbs crisp. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Popped in for lunch while shopping in the store as the vegetarian options looked good for my wife. Initial service was efficient and we got to a table quickly. However here are the issues in need of attention...1. All the tables were dirty 2.most empty tables had not been cleared 3. The waiting time for a hot sandwich was over 15 mins 4. The staff who eventually started clearing tables seemed miserable and were communicative. 5. A lot of staff seemed to be wandering around aimlessly and empty handed, in spite of how busy and messy the place was. 6. No one seemed to be managing the place. 7. The food was expensive (£12 + for two sandwiches and 2 cold drinks!)

We decided to eat in M & S cafe while shopping in the centre however when we arrived it’s was so busy but as it was Saturday lunch time this was expected. We waited to get a table, a young lad working there found us a table and pretty much as soon as we sat down we went to order food. This seemed to take forever as the guy behind the counter seemed to be making coffees and serving. When we finally ordered our food it was 1:20pm and we was told there would be a 40 minute wait and as we finally got so where to sit decided we would wait. We ordered 2 fish ginger sandwiches, a jacket potato and scrambled egg and toast. Well 40 minutes passed even the table next to us was wondering where are food was a chased the staff as they got there just before us yet had eaten their meals and we didn’t even have ours yet. I also decided to ask where our food was, when they checked they said it would soon be out. Finally after another 10 minutes wait our food was brought out in dribs and drabs, rather than altogether and were luke warm and over cooked. I struggled to eat my sandwich as it was really dry and generally not nice, my sisters fish finger sandwich was inedible and completely burnt, I thought mine was bad but hers was horrendous. We was horrified that somewhere like marks and Spencer’s would serve such awful inedible food. There was no apology when they brought our food out for the delay or anything. We was that unhappy we decided to find a manager as we was unable to get any staff members attention. He was a older guy to be honest I’m not sure if he was the manager or not but I think he was. I explained how awful the food was and that we’d waited just under an hour and when it came out it was barely luke warm, over cooked and dry and that one sandwich was black and inedible, he went on to say they had run out of fish fingers so couldn’t replace it, I tried to explain how disappointed we was but he just said I’m trying to explain why? however there was no explanation for the appalling food we’d been served or an apology. I felt not only was we giving appalling food the service was just as poor. Eventually we got our sandwiches refunded but feel for the trouble we had and the fact that none of the feed was nice the whole bill should have been refunded at the very least. Although I don’t have a picture of all the meals I do however had a picture of the disgusting fish fingers we was served. I certainly would never choose to eat here again. I don’t generally like junk food however even Mac Donald’s was more appealing by this time. I would not recommend to anyone as there is no excuse for what we was served.

Having decided to find something to eat and drink on a Monday mid-morning, and finding long queues in many of the food outlets in the Milton Keynes shopping centre, I decided to try the café upstairs in Marks and Spencers. Only a few customers waiting to be served at the till. Very focussed staff, on the till and in the coffee-making departments, very friendly and capable, with is more than can be said with staff in some other places I've visited.. An exceptional range of sandwiches and other items to be toasted/grilled. I chose a cheese and ham sandwich and a piece of Bakewell tart as well as a latte. Probably the best latte I've had in a while, with excellent presentation. I ordered a medium but the size of the latte I received was larger than expected. A really pleasant environment, with plenty of seating and clean and tidy tables. Nothing worse than sitting down to eat with the previous customer's dirty plates and cups left on the table. It's quite expensive, but it'd definitely worth it.

I have no past history with any stores and never stole from a store. As I went to look at other clothes I heard her talk to another customer saying to watch him as hes trouble. Then everywhere I went in the store I had a security guard following me around. I may not look and dress smart, but I tend to buy thousands of pound worth of clothes at a time. Will not be going to this store again. I seriously recommend if the store reads these reviews, it should review how its security works. Everyone in the store knew who the security where watching and you will find you will lose big customers and when shoplifters find out what this store does, they will have loads of goods out, when the security pick on people who buy lots of goods. I decided to go to next instead and buy clothes, where I was treated well.

We were served relatively quickly and it took some time to find a seat as it was busy. The staff were efficient and the drinks were plentiful, tasty and more than provided us with the necessary refreshment. It seems the restaurant has been revamped since we last visited some while ago. Tables are cleared and cleaned quickly meaning you don't have to sit with discarded crockery and sandwich packaging as you have to do in other eating establishments we've visited, which can be rather off-putting. Having read other reviews on here, I can see no problems as regards staff not knowing their job. Leaving the cakes and food for self serve so the staff at the till is only making drinks and taking cash yet it took forever! The floor was full of food and crumbs everywhere, tables were dirty and food quality was dire. The cakes and all the foods were overpriced yet dry partly due to customers leaving the cakes uncovered after helping themselves, meaning hygiene is questionable. we paid £5 for two smoothies and they came in short glasses, making it poor value for money. I visited here with my Husband on a Thursday after a busy day. We didn't want anything fancy but liked the look of the carvery section. It was 4.45pm. Before we ordered we were told, we finish at 6pm, the carvery's not on and we only have 1 chunky chips left. Oh ok! So we were there, so we decided to order something different. We both had the barbeque pulled pork and coleslaw on a roll and my Husband had the last chunky chips and I had sweet potato chips it cost around £12 . But it was disgusting, it was served as takeaway food in a bag, after trying to find a clean table, we opened our food only to discover that the rolls were tiny and the contents were so spicy that you couldn't taste anything. My Husbands chips were stale and tasted like cardboard and my sweet potato chips were mostly black and inedible. We wanted to take it back but the staff looked like they were preparing for finishing and there was no one about and frankly I don't think we'd have got any better. We went to empty till just as server walked off to sort a complaint. Considering the backlog of waiting customers it would have been sensible to have one of the other staff members do that so the till was manned. Tables were dirty & not being cleared. I visited M&S; café for a quick coffee during a shopping trip. I saw the menu which looked interesting and saw a food order come out. This tempted me to go back to the counter and order a meal. I chose Fish and Chips which was very tasty and well presented. The member of staff that cooked the meal also brought it out to me as I commented to him on how well it was presented and he thanked me with a smile. A great place to eat and have a coffee and if 'Nick; is cooking and serving very well worth the while..

I've visited the cafe in M&S; once and once only, when I went it looked like a school bus full of children had rampaged through the seating area and left seats scattered everywhere! I'm in a wheelchair and thankfully with the help of my friend was able to make a path through the chaos to the counter area. Nice coffee and snacks but wouldn't visit again unless I went at a quieter time. In my opinion there are far nicer and more accessible places to have a cuppa whilst shopping in CMK.

Popped into M&S; for a coffee whilst I wait for someone to finish work. Was greeted with a smile and nothing seemed to difficult for the staff to undertake.

I wanted to take my mum for afternoon tea in this restaurant. Staff were helpful, we had sandwiches, a choice of tea or coffee, scone with jam and cream. The staff then asked if we would like it all serviced on a tea stand which I thought was great. Enjoyable afternoon tea.

I have been a few times as I work in the centre and although the food is always good the service is simply awful. It's always so slow which is frustrating but worse is the reason why it's slow. The staff are always chatting to each other and not serving. One girl saw a friend in the shop and started shouting out to her half way through talking to me and then continued with her conversation while I was stood there. Inexcusable. Avoid.

M&S;, as far as I've always believed, prided themselves on providing a high standard of customer service. Well - they always used to and generally I've become accustomed to finding helpful and friendly members of staff.

Thought we'd pop into the M&S; cafe in Milton Keynes for a bite to eat, I wish we hadn't. During a previous trip there we'd queued up for a long time (asking staff for trays as there weren't any) only to be told what I'd wanted to eat wasn't available once we arrived at the counter. As I have a food allergy, my choices are very limited. I did ask that surely if they'd run out of soup (1pm) that they'd be able to restock from the Food Hall, but no was the answer. Anyway this time I was prepared, and asked at the counter first to see if soup was available, and it was. So we queued again and again had to ask for trays! When we got to the counter I was told that the soup was available, but no gluten free rolls!! I again asked that surely they could get some from the Food Hall, but again no was the answer! I asked if I would have to pay the full price, but 50p (the exact price of the rolls) was taken off. We then proceeded to find a table, yes I know it was lunchtime and Xmas shoppers were plentiful, but we eventually found a table and I went to ask if it could be cleared. There was only one lady in the cafe to clear tables and one gentleman serving food. The lady cleared and wiped it with a serviette, but I had to re-wipe it. It took ages for a bowl of soup and a jacket potato and I wish we hadn't bothered! There was also 2 normal rolls on my plate even though we'd ordered the soup without them! Sort it out M&S;, look at your staffing levels, and make a presence in the cafe with tables being cleared and trays re-stocked promptly, it would make all the difference. I will not be venturing in again.

I am a regular visitor to the cafe, but I really think that there should be a refurbishment for the cafe and toilets here. There's always a large queue and if I did not have the Premiere Club vouchers I would probably go elsewhere. I have started to avoid this place now, because I cannot stand for too long. There's sometime's a shortage of choice as the day goes on. The choice of sandwiches could be better as they do not really do a vegetarian choice. The only choice they seem to have is egg and that's it. I do eat fish, so if there's a fish choice it's my lucky day. I sometimes think that the cafe where the staff are working can look messy and could do with a clean up. Not a good look for the customer waiting to be served. I have waited 20 minutes for a coffee and that can be a long time if someone has walking difficulties or if you have someone that's perhaps disabled. I will not be coming here in too much of a hurry, as it does get over crowded.

I don't normally like places like this, but this is well worth a visit if you're shopping in MK. Good range of different, interesting items on the menu as well as basics.

Lovely coffee but no atmosphere. Uncomfortable seating & toilets need upgrading badly. If I didn't have Premium Club vouchers would probably go elsewhere.

The Best pie I've had in God knows how long has to be the beef & ale pie which comes with tasty mash & sumptuous gravy. In the cafe is also an amazing tea for two for just £10.

Went this morning for breakfast. Literally got our food straight away, you might think this is good, but how long had it been siting there? It was barely warm, so the hot store is obviously not doing it’s job. Food would be better served on a hot plate too. I’d nearly finished my breakfast before my toast arrived. I like to eat it with my my breakfast. If I’d waited though my food would have been stone cold. I did let Morrisons staff know the food was not hot enough. Let’s hope they can improve this.

I couldn't believe how tiny the cup of coffee was. Went to nearby Bella Italia a couple of hours later where the coffee was considerably larger for a lower price. Won't be going to M & S for coffee again.

When Debenhams changed the style of it's cafe offering, they seemed to have really taken it up market. Standards, particularly those of the staff, had rocketed and although I reckon a lot of folks wouldn't have liked the improvements (old habits die hard), I and many others did.Unfortunately the honeymoon period has clearly passed and this visit was less that satisfactory.Tables littered when we arrived, checkout system slow and food no longer quite as classy as it previously has been.Ordering soup and a jacket potato, we took our seats and waited on it's arrival. After about 10 minutes, the buzzer flashed (they use an electronic table ID system) and we waited expectently for the food to arrive. Nothing! Thinking that perhaps they had changed the system and we should go back to collect it, I headed to the till point. Could see both items sitting under the heat lights but was advised that it would be brought over.Returning, we seemed to wait for ages before the Baked Potato arrived. Putting it down, the waitress advised me that my wife's soup would be following. I was about halfway through my meal as she passed us with two more baked potatoes for another table. Almost finished my meal, the soup finally arrived - along with appologies for the delay. The baked potato was packed with filling but frankly, was mildly warm rather than hot whereas my wife did say her soup was very hot (maybe it was thanks to the time under the heat lights). The salad accompanying it was poor and really only represented compliance with a menu description, certainly not adding to the value of the meal.A real disappointment which left me feeling that Debenhams have allowed their cafe to begin to sink to the depths of the old one which would be a real shame.

1600 hrs 8th Nov 24. The staff were excellent when my wife fell and hurt her knee. They were very concerned and gave us very caring service. Two young members of staff deserve praise.
