Absolutely awful. I used to go in the M & S cafe all the time in the old shop before this new one opened. I have been in this one 3 times since it opened and on each occasion it has been shocking and I won’t be using it again. Hence writing a review. Firstly the ordering system is difficult and not user friendly and doesn’t allow for any customisation of the order. Most of the items are not in stock and can’t be ordered. So it’s such a limited menu. When I went to the counter to ask if I could have something extra added to my sausage balm, ( I was happy to pay extra) was just told a flat no. The dishwashers were broke so drinks were in paper cups and breakfast on paper plates. Then they brought me a bacon balm in error. It’s dark and dirty and is just the most horrid cafe now. M & S need to be ashamed of this poor excuse for a cafe it is totally impersonal and not at all like we expect of M& S. Just had to write this review as it was so awful and my 3rd visit when it’s just been horrid. I know they don’t care and won’t do anything about it as people will still use it. Such a shame as we had such high expectations of this new store when it opened. The womens shopping is a much reduced selection too and I just don’t think this store matches our expectations of M&S. it certainly doesn’t match mine and I rarely go in now.

Terrible service today, so short staffed with food and drink waiting by the counter to be brought to the table, I had been waiting for 8 minutes after watching my breakfast being put under the lights to come to me. I eventually went to the counter asking if I could take it! It's not improved from last time I was in - maybe it would be better to call the numbers and collect ourselves!

We’ve been having breakfast in this location for a number of years. all of a sudden they decided to stop serving Hot and cold drinks in ceramic cups. now serving in paper cups, it is not environmentally friendly to serve drinks in paper cups over ceramic cups, The first week we noticed they said the dishwasher wasn’t working and now they have carried on serving with paper cups. I could understand that if the dishwasher wasn’t working, but they are still serving food on ceramic plates.??????? I think the sanders are going down. Nothing nicer than having in a cup of tea from a tea pot.

Visited on a quiet Monday mid afternoon, placed order & was ment by numerous uncleared dirty tables, floor was littered with rubbish & food debris. Milk for our teas served in a cup as no clean jugs, perhaps they're all on the tables that haven been cleared? Staff went back to kitchen with empty trays, rather than clear a table. Tea had gone up by 10p from last one I had in M&S, but quantity was halved - shrinkflation going on. Miserable experience, worst cafe been in for a very long time.

Awful cafe!! First attempt, joined the queue of approx 15 people, member of staff apologised for the delay apparently the kitchen was a bit “overwhelmed”!! Well it was midday so what do they expect?! Gave up after waiting for 10 mins with no progress. Came back around 20 mins later queue had improved only a couple of people in front of me. No staff present to show you how to use the digital ordering service, had to stop a passing member to ask how I can make sure I get a table as a solo visitor? He found me a single table facing a pillar, lovely!! Sandwich arrived within 10 mins (pre-packed one which was fine as I’d had them before) so no wonder it was quick. The crisps, cake & coffee I also ordered turned up 15 mins later & only because I asked another member of staff. Food & drink quality was fine, no issue there but the whole digital vibe just doesn’t work. M&S you’ve lost your personal touch! The cafe is far too small for a major store like this one. People with wheelchairs, pushchairs, limited mobility can’t move easier between the tables. Add to this staff trying to clear the tables & load their trolley! Very disappointing M&S, I won’t be back. Crazy thing is by 1.30pm the cafe was emptying. C’mon M&S get this sorted!!

As anyone else visiting for the first time, we looked for a vacant table, only for a panting staff person to advise us to queue nearby, although there was no signage to indicate that requirement. We joined a group of people looking equally perplexed at the site of many vacant tables. We had to order what we wanted at one of the vacant screens, before being allowed to sit at one of the tables. A good idea I thought, the reduced need to order by actually speaking to someone would mean the redirected staff numbers could promptly process & deliver our Order. After a relatively long wait, most of our straightforward Order of croissant & coffees arrived. As I finished my coffee, my toasted teacake finally made an appearance. I returned later in the afternoon when it was quieter for a similar snack. Despite me standing about 4m from about 20 raisin scones, the screen interface advised ‘sold out’. As I tried to pay for my coffee, the ‘screen’ suggested I add a scone or flapjack. I opted for the flapjack as the ten on view looked so good, only for the screen to tell me ‘sold out’. I thought I felt ‘steam’ coming out of my ears as my blood pressure peaked, and I resigned myself to solely a drink.

Dark and dingy. Horrible . Coffee weak, even though paid extra for large cup and upgrade. Couldn't hold cup it was extremely difficult to hold with the clumsy handle and kept slipping, had to use both hands. (There is nothing wrong with my grip). Food stale and expensive. Only two tables occupied , hardly surprising. Will not go again. Just looked at other reviews, so not an isolated case. Marks and Spencer, do you respond or even read these reviews???

Terrible experience, what a horrible place. Dirty looking and dark dingy atmosphere. Staff disorganised, tables not cleared, yet there seemed to be lots of them getting in each others way. Worst of all there is no proper service. You have to use a screen to order which makes the place feel like a McDonald’s not a cosy cafe. This creates long queues as there are no menus. We only had coffee (thank goodness) as we could not be bothered messing about with the screen trying to find what we wanted while people stood behind us. When the coffee arrived the waitress brought with it a pot of sugars which I thought she would leave on the table. Instead she asked us how many sachets we wanted and looked reluctant to even part with them! She the picked up the pot and scurried away with it as if it were a pot of gold. What on earth is going on! Penny pinching self service, no menus, standards seem to have dropped through the floor. Very cheap and tacky cafe, will definitely not go in there again, not unless things improve vastly. There were also enough staff in there to serve people properly.

I usually love M&S but the cafe in the new Trafford centre store has poor organisation. Tech used in a poor way causing long waits and poor food quality. 1 hour wait a breakfast and a toastie. Everyone around had similar waiting times. When questioned with the staff, she stated I don’t work in the kitchen so I can’t do anything. When the food arrived the breakfast had been sat waiting and was not of the normal M&S quality.

My wife and I called for a light bite and coffee. The first, and possibly most important, experience, was of grubby, uncleared tables. There was a distinct lack of enthusiasm from staff to address the situation, regularly walking past tables that had been used as dumping grounds (by patrons in an effort to clear space for themselves) consequently increasing the feeling of a grubby, cluttered establishment; not what you expect from a retailer that promotes itself as providing quality products and service.

Arrived at 12.45 on Tuesday 25th. Self ordering screens slightly chaotic with people unsure of what to do hence confusion causes delay. There should be an option to order at a pay point or to use the self ordering system. Tables are not being cleaned hence customers are sitting down feeling they are seated in an unhygienic environment. The table clearing while it must be done is not managed quietly. All in all it is disappointing and does not reflect the brand I understood Marks and Spencer to be. To be fair the staff are working hard but I believe M&S have missed the mark with this cafe.

I spend less when I come here now! As I refuse to pay 17 pounds for a pre made bacon bun heated in the microwave and a coffee x 2… however I still spend good money on food here… so the least I expect is a good service and courtesy.. today I went to a table which had the plates etc from someone else still on it.. I stood and waited whilst 2 staff walked past me and ignored me as I tried to speak to them… so I went to the till (not used as everything is touch screen).. and the manager, Alina was there. I politely asked if anyone could clean a table(I moved plates myself).. she said “yea there’s people cleaning…” I said mine wasn’t clean I cleared the plates myself and she just looked at me and said sorry. I said it was filthy and I asked if someone could clean it and she just pointed to staff walking around and said “there’s people there”… I said”thanks I’ll ask them to clean it if you can’t be bothered” and she just continued doing something with a till…Don’t expect anything better, but they do, do good tv adverts!! As a manager I would have cleaned the table myself and shown some respect to my staff who were working hard at a busy time! The lad who cleaned it was very pleasant.

Had lovely service from a helpful colleague on the till firstly and I thought she did her best - however I requested a healthier spread alternative to butter as only full butter was “in the bowl” in the self service fridge and I was buying a cheese scone. She asked in the kitchen for me. I would have understood if they had run out - but she told me M&S have deleted anything like Flora type equivalents and now only serve proper butter which was “news to her”. I find this very outdated approach if correct; old fashioned at a time when I am sure you want younger people to come in to branches for the future.

The system for getting food and drinks is odd, Costa coffee can get it to work but here no one seems sure what they should be doing. The lady serving us just stopped to 'help' someone else - not necessary, chaos and drinks going cold - manager ignoring this lack of direction - they were filling the biscuit container nearby. We used to enjoy the cheese scones, then they weren't available because of stockists problem, now they are back but not cheesy and thinner.Come on m and s get someone in who knows how to run a cafe. It's not just at this cafe - similar experience elsewhere.

(ok, everyone has their own taste) the breakfast was luke warm, bacon had no taste, the sausage was ok, toast was ok (cold) toms were edible but omg! the scrambled egg was offensive! It was a bright yellow, rubbery, tasteless mess which took up nearly half of the plate, nearly £20! will definitely NOT be visiting there again

After eventually finding seating we were faced with a pile of dirty plates and left overs, which we had to clear ourselves. We joined the queue at the till, and were told waiting time was 25 minutes, fair enough as it was a busy Saturday lunchtime. Lady in front wanted a Toastie and was told it too would be 25 minutes, but orders were dealt with in strictly chronological order so as to be fair to everybody. We placed our order and took our drinks to the table. After 45 minutes waiting we finally caught the attention of a waitress, who said she would look into the delay. After further waiting we caught the attention of another waiter and explained we would like a refund as we were fed up with the wait. He said he would investigate the delay and went away. Meanwhile we noticed a number of people that had come way after us in the queue were served and eating, despite the earlier assurances of fair waiting. The first waitress then arrived and plonked the food on our table, she offered no apology initially, but on our insistence on an explanation she said they were short staffed, and they have nothing to do with what comes out and when, they just bring it to the table. The standard of food was poor, Bread was dry, Fish Fingers were cheap variety and Chips were burnt and also dry,not what you would expect from a so called quality establishment. Only two pieces of advice, go somewhere else if you can, and if you go here make sure you complain loudly and clearly as it seems the only way to get served.

Female member of staff was very rude when asked if they had clotted cream. She waved her hand towards the fridge and said “it’s back there”! She didn’t even attempt to look otherwise she would have simply seen an empty space! She just walked off behind the counter. I made a point then of going to the staff on the opposite side of the counter - two male staff members. They were completely different, the younger one informed me they didn’t have any clotted cream in the kitchen and he would go onto the shop floor for some. The other member of staff took payment for my order and told me to take a seat and that he would come and find me when the cream arrived. True to his word, he came straight over, apologised for the wait (which was only a short one) and delivered the cream. So, terrible customer service from the woman but excellent from the men.

As one might have expected at M&S; the food quality is good, and the choice more than reasonable both for hot and cold dishes - all at competitive prices. The quality is consistent whenever you go. The one irritant is that they never seem ‘geared up’ for the early morning rush with one member of staff on the till and a second making the teas and coffee’s. Invariably, the second work station is not staffed until a little later. So....if you are visiting the cafe when the store opens be prepared to wait.

We used to love this cafe but it has definitely gone downhill. The cake slices are small and unappetising. We ordered a large 'luxury' hot chocolate and chose a slice of lemon and elderflower cake. We received regular sized hot chocolate which was far from luxury with a couple of stale dry marshmallows and a pathetic squirt of cream, also not even mixed so most of the flavour was left stuck to the bottom of the cup. I love cake but this was the first time I have not been able to eat a slice, the flavour was disgusting. Disappointed M &S;.

After visiting nearby Gawthorpe Hall (National Trust), we decided to try this pub for a late lunch. We found it to be an excellent choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful from beginning to end. The place had a nice ambience - the music was just right and the interior decor was tastefully done and pleasing to the eye. There was a good choice on the menu - we had beef chilli and chicken curry - home cooking at its best. Drinks included an excellent JW Lees pint, half a Guinness and a Rosé wine. There's plenty of parking within the pub grounds. We would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.
