Nice for a glass of Prosecco & some small bites whilst shopping. The staff are very friendly but such a shame about their dark green & black uniforms, they must be awful to wear! The place could do with a splash of colour to liven it up a bit & maybe some music 🎶 too?? Apparently the Prosecco is 1/2 price after 5pm so definitely worth a visit after work maybe 😊

In a way this is not a review of the cafe/deli and hope I got the right place. We were walking to the start of The Great North Run and putting it bluntly my wife and I needed a coffee and especially a loo. Saw this cafe and went in ( sort of assuming there would be a loo ) and lo and behold they had opened the doors from cafe into the main store ( this was about 8am ) and although the store wasn` t open they had staff who knew exactly why you were there directing you upstairs to the loos which as you would expect were probably the cleanest loos in town and no queue !! Greatly relieved we then sat down in the cafe for coffee and toast. Congratulations to M & S for this great and badly needed gesture at the start of a great day.

The M&S Deli Bar attracts more customers than there are seats at times during their 5-7pm Happy Hour. I was there on Friday night and observed that ‘because of licencing regulations’ people who did not have a seat would not be served. To ensure that such customers were turned away a store security guard was taken off other duties in a store where shoplifting must be rife. In a time gone by M&S would have embraced such a challenge and had some spare folding tables and chairs which could easily have been placed alongside the bar near the bread counter, not now it seems. I went to this Deli Bar on a recent Bank Holiday to find that it closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. I then visited the Fenwicks Deli Bar in their food hall and it was thriving. Again I feel at one time M&S would have embraced the challenge but instead they’re now raising the white flag. Michael and Thomas must be turning in their graves.

Nice place to catch up with a friend or two but near the doors and chilled food compartment so you will need to keep your coat on. The best thing about the Marks and Spencers deli is its location - right in the foodhall near to the Haymarket exit of the store, so it is extremely convenient if you are looking for coffee or casual food which waiting to get on a bus or Metro. If there is a queue you will have a longish wait to be served. The soup was OK and they serve quite a range of hot dishes including breakfasts and main lunch dishes which include some unusual sandwiches, plus alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Prices are not cheap considering you are in a store with no scenery or particularly enjoyable ambiance.

There was two types of four sandwiches in the fridge which we had to pick, one was a pack of four egg and cress but preferred the selection of four diff types in one pack. Next was the scone selection of Devon, Cheese or fruit. Clotted cream was inc then choice of jam....selection of little cakes was final nibble. There was a pot of tea for each of us. £15.95 was price for two and it was very enjoyable. One of pics is of advertised tea with one big pot for two, other is actual tea

We'd always promised ourselves a visit, so called in for a late bite of lunch. Service was unenthusiastic, the two servers seeming too immersed in their own conversation to both with us at first. We settled for prawn, crab and avocado salad and 'posh' cheese on toast respectively. The salad was fine though not cheap for a lunch stop at £11.50. The cheese on toast was irritating - two very small, thin slices of white bread not very generously covered with cheese mix and accompanied by cheap pickle. Bit expensive at £4.50 but not worth that. So, overall mediocre, over priced food served by staff who didn't seem too interested.Might be worth a pit stop for a nibble and a drink otherwise best avoided I thought.

Which means you don't wait long at the till and the tables are cleaned and made ready for the next customer very quickly. Haven't got a bad word to say about them - only can't give them 5 stars as they don't quite match the quality of a place that bakes for itself on site. Some may find the concept of a bar in the Food Hall at Marks and Spencer a bit strange but it is very popular with us here in Newcastle. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty. As well as serving coffees and teas, there is a good selection of wine. If your favourite wine isn't on the list but is on sale in the shop, you can buy it and drink it at the bar for a small corkage fee.I believe it is popular with women as if they are on their own and fancy a glass of wine, they can have one without feeling a bit awkward going into a pub on their own. That said, it is popular with the men too. Well done M&S.

That is rather a shame because my own and my wife's experiences of eating and drinking at least once per week (weather permitting) at the CHAMPAGNE BAR have always scored 10 out of 10. Yesterday was pretty typical. The shop and the eatery were busy and the staff (Melanie, Dani, Connor and David) were all their usual friendly, efficient, jovial and helpful selves, They are a crack Team and a credit to M&S.The 'Smokehouse' fish selection together with a variety of breads and Marie Rose sauce that I chose this time was well presented and delicious. My wife's sirloin steak sandwich in toasted bread was 'excellent'....and she eats enough steak to be a good judge! Our meal was accompanied by a shared bottle of wine, (I always seem to get the 'smaller half' Ha ha ha) one glass of prosecco (her) and a bottle of Peroni beer (me). People reading this page should realise that there are a number of eating places within M&S Newcastle. Virtually all of the negative comments on here appear to relate to the 'quick stop' outlets. I confine my comments to the 'Champagne Bar' which is situated next to the Food Department at the rear of the store and adjacent to the Haymarket bus station.Together with my wife, we have used this venue for a leisurely and relaxing lunch at least once a week for a number of years. In all that time I can say that in all honesty I have never had cause for concern or significant complaint. We usually opt for a fish and/or shellfish dish and watch it prepared (often by a cheerful Danni) from fresh ingredients...the very same high quality foodstuffs you can buy yourself in store. All the dishes we have tried have been good but we particularly like the prawn, avocado and crab salad (easy on the avocado please) or the Madagascan king prawns. Personally I think the salad with lobster is a wee bit over-rated and over priced. A selection of desserts are all delicious though I must admit to being disappointed when they stopped offering my favourite Eaton Mess....Take note please M&S Management. The whole thing washed down with a bottle of white wine and accompanied by the delightful smiles and friendly banter of both Melanie and Megan combine to make these sessions absolute bliss.

Had breakfast at Marks and Spencer, Newcastle after getting off the DFDS ferry. The vegetarian breakfast was really nice for two committed vegetarians, however, it was not great value compared to the meat eating fraternity. For the carnivores breakfast is £6.95 and for vegetarians it is £5.95: we had two field mushrooms, two poached eggs, four small hashbrowns and a tomato with a round of toast. For the extra £1 the meat eaters enjoyed bacon, sausage and black pudding, along with our identical breakfast. We were really hungry and we didn't feel we had the same value for money: veggie sausages are readily available at supermarkets, as are baked beans, even an extra mushroom would have filled our plate and stomachs a bit more. I don't believe that reducing the cost of our breakfast by £1 to acknowledge that a substantial part of it is missing goes far enough. A bit more imagination please M & S.

Told we could not order food if we hadn’t booked, even though there was only one couple seated. the chef was sat at the bar having a pint, not a good look to be fair, but 20 minutes later someone wondered to the bar and ordered food. We then witnessed another couple try to order at the bar for them to be told they’d ran out of food so the kitchen was closed. Nice one!

Very slow service, I just wanted two hot drinks, about 12 in the queue waited 20 minutes to get served, staff very friendly though.

I've been here a few times and have really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, service was very good and fast and it's in a great spot.
