A most terrible experience. We queued for 20 minutes. When we got to the counter at 12:50 pm , I ordered our meal which was two breakfast wraps ( a quick meal to heat) and coffee. We were only then advised that it would be half an hour wait. So accepted this despite the fact there was no warning of this during the queuing. So we got our coffee and struggled to find a seat which turned out to be fairly uncomfortable because of the sun coming through the windows. We drank our coffee and waited past the 1/2 hour. We continued to wait. 40 minutes past. As you can imagine we were now getting irritated, and especially so because people who had been behind us in the queue, were being served with such meals as fish and chips etc. We were now considered a complaint and refund, as we're other people around us. A further 20 minutes went by when I got up and complained to someone who looked like a supervisor. She said she would check. Didn't return for 10 minutes. Then she appeared with our meal and others. No apology given. The restaurant was a shambles and had no strategy to limit orders relative to its abilities. This should have been done at the counter. People couldn't even find seats to eat their meals and cleaning was rare and random. So not sure if we will be eating here again, after this really bad experience. They have completely forgotten their organisation during COVID.

Great food, quick service, fish and chips freshly cooked, hot and a decent portion, the only thing which would have improved it would have been mushy peas instead of petit pois.

I feel I must give yet another iffy review for M&S in Plymouth. There is normally a huge queue at the upstairs cafe due to people waiting for hot drinks. The queue is out past the toilets sometimes and still nothing changes. Today the queue at the time we got there was small but still a short wait for hot drinks. When we sat down the cafe was freezing. Air conditioning was on full blast, people sat eating with their coats on. This isn’t acceptable M & S! I asked a member of staff if it could be turned down/off and it was and made a huge difference to our visit. I know the staff are running around delivering food and maybe get warm but there would be no staff without customers. You really need to look after them a bit better.

Freezing cold AGAIN in the cafe. People sat with coats on. Air con blasting out cold air. I have come to the conclusion that shops/cafes/shops these days are NOT about the customers comfort but the employees. Blaring music and air con is to keep them awake. As a customer I think its unacceptable.

Very slow. Other M&S cafes are much faster. 40 minute from joining the queue to receiving my order. 15 minutes in the queue to order 25 mins waiting for my order to come to the table. This review is for the cafe outside the entrance on the ground floor of the shopping centre. We got there just as they had cleared the chiller but staff were lovely, we had just travelled over 3 hours on a train with NO buffet service so were parched and hungry. I wanted to write this review because the two staff members , one male and one female were so nice. This was about 4.35pm on 30/3/22. They really set the tone for our stay in Plymouth and are great ambassadors for M & S. Coffee and cake was good too.

I visited the M&S cafe this week after a few hours shopping. I had my 2 month old with me who woke up wanting a feed as I joined the queue. As I desperately tried to make a bottle in the queue, a lovely member of staff came over and told me to find a seat and she would get me my lunch so I could feed Baby. It really helped a new Mum to feel better about an already testing situation and meant both Mum and Baby got fed and watered in good time. Thanks so much Lesley for saving the day and your care.

This is a very popular cafe. At peak times you can queue for half an hour to get served and in some cases you can have a 20 minute wait on food. The food is simple but good. Is it worth waiting so long for. No but people need to remember you can quiet clearly see how long the queue when you choose to join it, and it doesn’t help that all these Karen’s like to join the queue and then spend 15 minutes complaining about it when they finally get there, further slowing the queue down for everyone else, when they chose to stay. Plymouth is a major city with plenty of cafes and coffee shops they don’t get anywhere near as busy as this place. So if you don’t like the look of a queue go somewhere else. I honestly feel so sorry for the staff here and they genuinely do their best. They’re working in an underpaid job, during a pandemic on little trained staff. Many of the familiar faces that have been in the cafe for years have left in the last 6 months and I do not blame them, but it means the handful of original staff are trying to train an army of newbies, who don’t have the heart for the job. So yea 5* original staff are lovely, newbies aren’t as good or as nice as some of the girls and guys that have left but hopefully they will get there and the manager seems lovely too. Food is good quality and tasty. Toasties are a highlight and even nice to share with a friend. Staff are polite and deal with constant complaints very well and are super polite. How some of them keep their cool I will never know. But in all honesty a great cafe. Way too popular for what it is. But good.

After this long wait we were informed as we went to order that one of the soups was no longer available....a shame that this couldn't have been communicated on the menu, it may have saved us hanging around! We decided to order anyway then waited more than 15 minutes for the food to arrive. The cafe was busy and was obviously pitifully understaffed. The one lady serving was run off her feet and doing her best and the man clearing and cleaning tables was also up against it. Poor service still abounds, chaos at the serving points, one customer whilst queuing asked one of the staff about today`s soup offering was told ask them on the till and when he eventually got there, the person who served him ask her colleague who customer had spoken too about today`s soup choice, could the lady not just be helpful in the first instance and informed the customer what soup was offer? Dirty crockery filled all tables not occupied, we purchased hot food handed it to the assistant only for him to hand back to us, told him, you need to take this to be heated, only his second day on the operation, but was operating with no supervision and we feel sorry for the staff member who allowed him to sign on with her number, any mistakes genuine or otherwise will fall in her lap. Those staff responsible for drinks preparation were entirely out of their depths, continued to make mistakes and further hold up the queue. The hot food did arrive promptly, now any sauces come in a small dish as opposed to a sachet, well yes the sauce was red, as for it being quality tomato sauce that was a different matter, very watery. Whilst eating very poor attempts were made to clear the tables of dirty crockery and discarded food, indeed here was no sense of urgency about any service aspects throughout the whole operation. The fixtures and fittings are now well passed their best and the time is long overdue for a complete makeover of this Café, the service is provide has now reached rock bottom, maybe better just to close the operation altogether, many different Managers have tried running it, the only thing they appeared to have achieved is to run in to the ground. One of worst we have been in.

We have visited Marks and Spencer's cafe many times over the years and it just doesn't seem to get it together at the busy times. We always have to queue at lunch times - as long as 10-15 minutes just to buy a sandwich and pot of tea. The hold up seems to be at the 2 tills where you also order and receive your hot drinks and order your food. The staff were also struggling to clear the tables quickly enough. The toasted sandwich is usually quite nice, but this time we had the assorted sandwich pack which was very average - half the sandwiches were quite nice and the other half totally boring and tasteless. With a price of just under £12 for 2 packs of sandwiches and 2 pots of tea it was not the cheapest option.

I don't know why they got rid of one of the tills, surely the length the queue can get to has shown it would be worth bringing the till back. I have been twice when they have to have a member of staff going up and down the queue apologising for the wait. The restaurant is a little out the way, and not really big enough, on one side of the third floor-OK if you are already in the store. Seating can be difficult at peak times so bag a table first if possible as the queue may take a few minutes. There is a outside area for a good day but you don't get a view unless you like concrete. Main complaint is the small toilet adjacent which leaves much to be desired. Usually the girls have to queue and even the gents can be busy.

We were spending the day in Plymouth and finding ourselves in M&S around lunchtime decided to head for the cafe. It was busy but service was good. I chose a baked potato with chilli and salad and it was very good. My husband went for a sandwich selection and we had tea. It is what it is. An instore self service cafe and on the day we visited it was good.

Almost like it was added into a side annexe without much thought or care as to practicalities or ambience. A stark narrow long room with a view over some grey concrete roof tops. Nothing to lift the spirits.

We do a lot of our shopping in Marks and Spencer and , when we are loaded up with our purchases (Hubby carries the heavy bags). we make our way to the cafe on the third floor to relax with a scone or a cake with a cup of tea or coffee. The cakes and scones are yummy and the food selection is good. The staff are always friendly and helpful, everything is very clean and we enjoy sitting out on the balcony in warm weather to escape from the crowds in the shopping areas.Toilet facilities are close by .The only problem is that the eating areas get very crowded and (although there is also a cafe on the ground floor in the Armada Centre run by Marks and Spencer that is also very good) there is need for a larger cafe upstairs.

Thought we were off to a good start when the hot food orders were being taken at the start of the queue, but witnessing the chaotic working methods deploy by the staff organizing the hot food heating it was clear things were set to go downhill fast. The queue for the drinks and to pay was very slow, again staff preparing the hot drinks were getting in each others way, and due to very noisy equipment they had trouble hearing customer orders likewise many customers could not grasp what the staff were saying. Having found a table, noted like others such as Hazel D, it had not been wiped and was sticky. Eventually the hot food order arrived and found to be cold, at this point we noted the arrival of both the Commercial Manager(foods) and the section Manager in panic mode, the former cleared a few tables, the latter when behind the counter and started preparing hot drinks, her actions made it very clear to us, the lady had little grasp of correct procedures, little wonder the staff lack clear direction in basic Health & Hygiene standards.Do take your till receipt if you order any hot food, so you can query the order should it get forgotten as was the case on the day we visited with some other customers. There a great deal of room for improvement in this operation, certainly we will not be returning anytime soon and like many others have heard all the excuses from M&S about it takes time to prepare a good coffee.

Always go to have a coffee and cake every weekend ,service is always a problem, but lately although the tables are being cleared the tables are left in a terrible state, it seems wiping the tables clean is a thing of the past.Had to ask someone to do it today but they never came, so had to do it ourselves with a few paper napkins, not what I would expect from M&S,So a bit more training would not go amiss,I think. As an ex M&S assistant I find this very hard ti take,

liked the coffee and cakes, the coffee actually tastes of coffee not dark water served up in other places, the bright atmosphere and decor are very pleasant. When forced out to the shops by she who must be obeyed, I insist on M&S cafe.

very central was out wit the family and this included children so we needed something to cater for children and adults and somewhere fairly close to the centre- this is slap bang in the mall and there was a good lunchtime choice- good old M&S!

Maybe M & S are going through a lean time but I would have hoped they could do better than this. A very plain soulless room with a modest selection of food. I went in with my ageing mother who said it reminded her of the functional feel of the BHS cafeteria of the 1960s.

After queuing up at the service counter, staff were very apologetic over the wait. Only had sandwiches, as did my daughters and 2 young grandchildren. The selection was good, and the Christmas variety pack was excellent. Tables were always emptying so no wait for a table. Everywhere was clean, and tables were being cleared as they emptied. A good experience, as children can soon get bored, but the maps on the wall were an interesting talking point, showing where the fair trade foods/drinks came from.

Pot of tea and a big piece of Victoria sponge for under £4 in clean light easygoing surroundings. Not too busy on midweek late afternoon.

I have seen some bad reviews having just returned from Plymouth and as I cannot agree with them I decided to say a few words myself. We had been in Plymouth for a short stay and allocated one day to go shopping and M&S is one of the places we always like to visit as we often end up buying some clothes. It was lunchtime and as we were going out for an evening meal wanted something light and the M&S staff said we could try their cafe. We had noted they had a small bistro style place just outside the store but went upstairs. This is something flash and it is a large space with lots of tables and in the summer they have a lot of outside seating. This looks quite clever as they have wire caged the whole area so birds cannot fly in and join you. You do get a roof top view over some of the town.Anyway they had a reasonable choice of bites and salads. My wife had a good salad and I opted for a jacket potato and was offered a choice of fillings. We paid for our drinks and sat down placing the order card on display and very soon one of the staff delivered our food. This was up to M&S standards and did the job. If you want a better experience and choice of food then this is not the place for you.

Marks and Spencers must employ some awful management and staff for both their cafeterias ie the one in the store and the one downstairs in the mall. They are very very slow, rude and unable to take the slightest bit of criticism but yet do not mind keeping long lines of middle aged women waiting for some very bitter coffee. The tables are not cleared promptly and they happily watch customers clearing their own tables or sitting down to filthy tables because they cannot be bothered to wipe and clear them. The service as I stated is slow and yet they charge top dollar for their snacks. I do not come here often but only if Costa is full. Avoid this place expensive and poor service without a smile - PULL UP YOUR SOCKS MARKS AND SPENCERS. Your staff need to be reminded that there are lots of unemployed people in Plymouth who would value a job.

As the title states, unhygienic serving staff. As I waited an inordinate amount of time clasping a tray I watched a (middle-aged) woman put her finger in her ears at least three times, presumably to clean out ear wax!!!! She was also repeatedly scratching her head. I did not see her wash her hands before serving. I felt sick and went to the older lady who was serving by herself to get my pot of tea! Not a particularly enjoyable experience!

Accessible across the bridge from the upper floor of the Drake Circus shopping precinct or up through the inside of M&S just beside the furniture, household goods and nick nacks this light airy cafe is clean simple efficient and friendly but with a good mix of M&s style food and prices. Nothing flash or smart but not a bad place for a quick lunch or afternoon snack. Better than the top floor cafes at the far end of the precinct and other cafes in big shops elsewhere in the retail area.

Baked sea bass, little dry from the baking and probably more cream in the sauce than really needed.

Last year we discovered the unattended converted horse box near Devonport Park but in January we found the established shop/cafe in Albert Road. Very friendly and good selection of food all home baked. We think round the back of this cafe.

It’s gone! I’ve been buying my kids stocking fillers from here for the last 10 years or so and was mortified to visit today to see that the stall no longer existed. It always had a fantastic selection, both new and some of our old favourites. Very sad to see it go but the owner told me last year, that it had been a struggle since Covid lockdowns. It obviously took its toll. Farewell, but don’t know where I’m going to get my stocking fillers now!? Edible bank notes, bars of nougat, bubble gum, giant laces, jaw breaker gob stoppers…….😭
