I’m not sure why I keep going to this cafe, it’s so expensive and the service generally is not good, however I have noticed they are getting their act together and it seems a bit quicker to get through the til. Today however I went with my sister for a coffee and snack, we sat down and it was blowing a gale through the aircon vents, not just a little but seriously cold. Poor lady in a wheelchair kept moving to try and escape it. I did mention it to a member of staff knowing they most probably couldn’t turn it off, she said no it’s controlled by head office 🙄 somewhere else! Granted we had just had a few hot days (our summer) but today was cool. But apart from that I don’t really think the cafe is anything wonderful, it’s probably the free drink that keeps me there. Tesco at Hampton is much better value, and nice food, sorry to say.

I've been a regular for a while now but won't be going back in a hurry if at all. Waiting for 15mins only to be informed at the till, most of the food on the menu wasn't available and, if i did want any food, expect a 30mins wait. Absolutely appalled, specially bearing in mind this was 1pm.

No trays only the ones on the dirty tables still full of dirty crockery. Floor covered in food detritus, 1300 hrs only one checkout open long waits. No teaspoons had to ask and brought two wooden ones held by the bowl in his dirty hands. One person supposed to be cleaning the tables but delivering food in between without washing his hands. Chipped milk jug. Very quiet not surprisingly we won’t be back!

Very limited food choices for lunch and overpriced food and drinks. There is always a huge queue at the Brotherhood branch, staff seem to take ages to make hot drinks when it would be more efficient to have two staff operating tills and another two completing drinks orders and taking them to tables. For the small, snack style lunches they provide I feel that £8 is unacceptable. Small portions and very few choices for children. They've also recently changed their closing times, which is frustrating. The store is open until 8pm, I often used to pop in for a coffee and cake after work, but the close at 5.30pm! Very disappointing. This retail park needs somewhere decent for people to eat! M & S have an opportunity to profit from this but the current provision is really poor.

Although we enjoy our food and drink at this outlet, we find it is often understaffed and the result is the café is often not as clean and tidy as you would expect. The few staff work hard reducing the waiting time. There is often no plates and a limited amount of cakes to chose from because they have not been replenished.

36 minutes ago NEW Dine in | Lunch | £20–30 Arriving for some lunch at The M&S Cafe in Brotherhood Peterborough with my husband and the queue once again is out the door. All Staff on slow mode again. Overhearing then a staff member the lady with the Red short hair to say to Customers in line waiting “We are running out of food”and to the young girl on the till. Errr not very professional that is it. Umm this is a Cafe is it not? Running out of food at 1.30pm? Lunch time! The mind beggars to belief. After standing in the queue for quite some time and customers now at this point are astounded to witness that the staff members, and at this point there are 3 behind the counter no one is serving. The young lady then walks off the others one with short red hair the other an older lady with a scrunchy in her hair just stand there talking totally ignoring the queue and Customers. HELLO!!! Then they too decided to walk off after the young girl returns to the counter. The customers at this point are fuming some walking out. Not being seen too or greeted on arrival WHATS GOING ON? Where is the manager in all this. No sense of Customer service. No tables were being cleared but staff everywhere to be seen. All to busy doing absolutely nothing!!! And that at lunch time. Overhearing Customers that was already seated and waiting for their food discussing the dysfunctional Cafe and Staff. My husband returned to the counter for some extra milk for our tea asking politely only, for the lady with the short red hair to make a huffing breathing sound at him like it’s to much trouble serving him again for then my husband to say to her “Have I upset you asking for extra milk”. What on Earth is up with the Staff at this Cafe. Rude no work ethics no manners and can not be bothered with Customers let alone do their job. Just want to say if the job is too much and you don’t like serving Customers then maybe you’re in the wrong job and time for a change. We can’t fault the food as always it’s tasty and pleasant to eat. So thumbs up for the Chefs but the Staff on the floor are appalling.

Claire Lefevre the recruitment co-ordinator from Brothethood M&S seemed inexperienced. The interview questions were inappropriate for the role. The fact that I was a mom of three and a professional accountant who simply wanted a flexible position with a reputable company was dismissed in such an inappropriate manner (discrimination). The fact that I was advised by Claire she would let me know of the outcome after a few days and not to hear anything for months was deeply disturbing. Only after I rang up to enquire for closure did I eventually receive an outcome via email. The M&S store manager Patrick validated the unprofessionalism stating Claire Lefevre had gone on holiday and that there had also been staff changes. He suggested meeting to discuss further but he never followed up. In a way if that is how they operate at that particular store I am happy to showcase my skills and capabilities in a more conducive and positive organization.

We called in here for some breakfast whilst shopping in Queensgate, I felt I had to write a review as I was quite shocked, 2 visible people at the counter and one in the background possibly toasting items, the lack of organisation became quite funny, one lady was asking the line queuing if they’d all track and traced, never have I been anywhere recently where staff were talking down to customers asking to track and trace- this was being done by everyone or most who walked in, the lady next to me actually commented she didn’t have a phone that up to date. Please don’t get me wrong it was great that it’s being taken seriously but to actually harass people queuing ( grown adults) was a little too much, the service was so slow and disorganised I won’t be taking mum here for breakfast here again when shopping- too slow and Marks this is one part of your customer service that does need looking at.

The cafe was very quiet and there was only one person if front of me in the queue. However that is where it all went wrong because the member of staff making the drinks was a great friend of the customer. As a result they were cuddling each other and admiring hair styles and touching hair which cannot be good for food hygiene. The drink making staff member then took the customer's drink to the table and they had a chat. In the meantime I am still waiting to be served. Eventually she decides to return but got distracted by another customer. I did not exist, by now the queue is out the door. They have forgotten who the customer is and that the staff are there to serve them. Where is management? 15 minutes after arriving I was served. It will be a long time before I come back.

I went for afternoon tea with my mum today and the place was a disaster. Even though the queue was out the door, no extra staff were deployed to help and there was no sense of urgency. There were no sandwiches left so we had to just have cake, no one apologised for this. The young girl on the till was extremely rude and could not be bothered with anyone, tossing the saucers on the tray and grunting at us impatiently. The service was so slow and no one even apologised for the wait. Staff members were having a very noisy arguement in the kitchen about break times which could be heard guys in the queue. The tables had not been cleaned and the cutlery pots were disgusting and dirty. Will not be visiting again.

Popped in for coffee and a quick breakfast before going shopping. Ordered the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs on toast. Looked lovely in the picture. Looked nothing like it when it got to my plate. Eggs were dry and rubbery and not on the toast! (First world problem!) I asked for a couple of sausages to be on the plate as extra but the woman behind the till (who was a muppet) informed me “We don’t do that here” now that could either be because; A- she didn’t know how to put that on to the till system. B- she couldn’t figure out how to send the sausages out as an extra by adding them to the plate or C- the most likely. We had to buy a sausage bap because this makes them more money than paying for an extra to be added. The cutlery in the pots was dirty. The manager (I assume) was loud and shouting over everyone. She didn’t exactly suit the surroundings. Nice quiet little cafè, loud mouth Woman more suited to training army recruits kind of upsets the flow in the Cafè. All in all thoroughly disappointed having been to other M&S Cafè’s and been impressed. The drinks were good though so kudos for being able to pour hot water over a tea bag. Poor.

I feel it is important to pass this negative review as I don’t feel the hygiene was up to standards on 25th July 2019 lunchtime at M&S Brotherhood cafe. The serving area for ‘help yourself’ cake station was appalling. The ‘clean’ plates on offer were full of cake crumbs and food bits. Utensils for serving cake were unacceptable and full of cake debris. No clean plates were available. The cake stands were smudged with finger prints, and full of cake debris. The serving area was a mess! It was really shocking sight and decided to only have packaged lunch items from the chiller. Please pass this on to your team! I'm unsure why it took so long to get a tea, a decaf americano and a regular americano given there were three staff working. I was just about to drink my decaf when a member of staff came to tell me a mistake had been made and it wasn't decaf. Another member of staff then came to give me another coffee but wasn't sure whether it was decaf - needless to say I wasn't impressed. My parents have complained before directly to the manager but he didn't seem too bothered and clearly no changes for the better have been made regarding staffing and speed of service. Next time I'll go to the Costa on the other side of the retail park. Disappointing.

Myself and my family have been coming here for years and over the past few weeks, the service has gone down considerably. This afternoon, I visited with my mother and sister, and our experience was awful. As someone who manages a team of people, it is clear that the problem relates to poor management and lack of organisation. First of all, we ordered a jacket potato, to be told after payment that they didn't have any left. We demanded a refund for this. All 3 of us had practically finished our coffees and we were still waiting for food. By this time, 40 minutes had passed. We heard customers arguing with members of staff, complaining that their orders were either wrong or that they were still waiting for something. The staff didn't seem to know who ordered what, and we even went up to the till to ask how much longer we would be waiting for a simple jacket potato. The staff member ignored my question and went off, I assume, to check on the food. At this point, a manager called Sam came in and heard us complaining and offered to get us a free drink. He sincerely apologised and our food was delivered shortly after. Thank you to him. This cafe used to be great, well organised and the old staff were brilliant. Now, the place isn't as busy, everyone seems to be waiting for ages, the staff are giving out coffees and food to the wrong tables and half the food on the menu, they don't even have.

Having visited a number of times before and had a mixed experience I decided to try once more when wanting tea and cake in an informal setting. The cafe was fairly busy and staff were clearing the tables, however the one I chose, although cleared, was not clean! It could have done with a thorough wipe. It is always unclear how to proceed as no trays are on offer on entering the cafe. It was difficult to get the cake on to a plate. It seems that customers take their chosen food eg cake, toasted sandwich etc to the till. One is then give a tray and food to be heated is taken away. There was a queue as usual with one server taking moneys and the other preparing hot drinks. This takes a great deal of time, especially when the till server disappeared to do something while we queued. Staff are friendly but clearly more are needed. The cafe never feels fresh and the coffee and walnut cake, although ok, was not the lightest of sponges. Overall the cafe felt a bit scruffy and the service is very slow. There is considerable room for improvement.

We are used to queueing here as very often busy. Queue not too bad at first but noticed the man on our till kept wandering off while serving people. I was next in line and a young girl at the coffee machine asked what hot drinks we required. and made my latte. The man on till then went off again and was behind a different counter ,using hands he'd handled cash with and was putting two scones on plates. Another lady came to the till and I told her he'd disappeared so she said he's doing an afternoon tea! She then made me another latte and he came back, no apology or explanation just began serving. He rang up our food and drink and put my sandwich onto my tray to which I told him it needed toasting. Then didn't give me a hot food number. . . . .

Shopping in M&S Peterborough and my husband and I decided to have lunch here. I was a little concerned because he doesn't eat bread or sweet things - he is so good - and I thought of sandwiches, toasties, cakes and scones. But we found that they offer salads and jacket potatoes and other hot dishes too. We both decided on jacket potatoes with chilli and ordered at the counter. No long queue and both ladies were very pleasant and helpful - thank you Vanessa and Louise. It is always good to have a bit of a welcome and even a bit of fun and banter. The jackets were delivered to our table - hot and substantial with a fair amount of salad and dressing. The chilli was lovely, maybe a little spicy for some, but we loved it.The potato was tasty and hot and the salad was fresh.A slight niggle is that butter would be nice for the potato - I pinched a couple of pats that I think were meant for scones! And a dollop of sour cream on the chilli would have finished the dish off nicely and added a touch of class. We then had coffees and the whole lot came to around £13 - not too bad for a good lunch.I found the staff to be helpful and smiley - and that is quite contrary to some of the reviews. We will visit again to try another dish on the menu.

I used to make a beeline for the M&S cafe whenever in town with my two young daughters. It had a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, great choice that was affordable for a family (lunch bags for the girls, decent selection of healthy salads and yoghurt pots etc, as well as fresh cakes and scones etc), the queues were long but it was worth it. However, now it's moved upstairs in the same building, it is just awful. There was hardly anything fresh on offer for children, the lunch bag 'system' has ended, meaning we had to spend a small fortune on separate items, all of which were very processed and unhealthy. The only 'healthy' snack item on sale (apart from fresh fruit at 50p a pop) was pre-packed and sliced fruit in a pot the size of my fist, containing about 3 grapes and 2 slices of kiwi, on sale for £2.50. No yogurt, no granola pots, no salads. Added to that, the staff were incredible miserable, rude and unhelpful, the whole place felt very dark and 'sad', and cost a fortune for the privilege. What a shame. One last thing - the lifts were out of order, meaning a number of people in wheelchairs on the floor below were unable to get to the cafe at all. Lucky them!

We visited last Friday just after 9.30am, not very busy, two Ladies behind the serving counter, took not a bit of notice of us (the customers), they just carried on having a conversation between themselves. When we did manage to give our order their conversation was still going on, we never got a smile or a word of any sort from them. While having our coffee we couldn't help but notice that they carried on were they had left off with us, it got pretty busy but we never saw any form of welcome or smile from either of them to customers. We love going into M&S Cafés normally, but never before have we seen staff so unsuitable for this type of job.

Tables are perpetually dirty and queues are always long. Good food but experience is horrible when you are always surrounded by waste which the employees seem to not see as they walk by empty handed

Been several times, it just gets worse and worse! Slowest staff, that seem so busy doing nothing! Queues are always long, last couple of visits the tills have been broken. Foods ok when you finally get it. Not what you'd expect from M&S

Lovely afternoon tea offer before Christmas! A two tier plate with sandwiches finger cut cheese and ham, beef and horseradish, salmon and cream cheese and egg mayonnaise. Freshly prepared. Two scones with jam and clotted cream although M n S scones are not my favourite too dpughy and bread like in consistency. Delightful mini mince pie, and Christmas pudding. Both very tasty. Individualot of tea. Good value though service can be slow.

Previously we gave this location 4 stars, but after today's visit we have changed our minds. The Management Team Meeting was being held in the restaurant and we had to wait almost 20 minutes to be served whilst the staff served the managers (in the smart suits and oozing attitude). In addition they were queue jumping. They missed the whole point that if it wasn't for the customer they would not have a job.If they are going to have a team meeting, have it in the canteen, not where the public are sitting. By the time our order was completed the drinks had gone cold. Several people abandoned the queue and left.

Met a friend here and seemed to queue an unacceptable length of time in a very short queue for drinks. Cakes ok but nothing special and obviously bought in. Lots of dirty tables and only a few tables in use. Not impressive but ok if you need a break from shopping.

I had a slice of uninspiring carrot cake and a gingerbread late. I could not believe that the lady cleaned around me, staring at me- it was about twenty minutes before they closed. I asked if there were newspapers and got a one word answer- no. The woman sprayed all the tables next to me, tainting my cake with the smell. How I wished I had crossed over the retail park and gone to Costa where they are friendly, have newspapers and don't assault you with spray fumes!

We were very impressed by the dishes on offer. It was nice that everything came out of the kitchen freshly prepared and was not sitting round under lights in a hot dish. Yes, there was a bit of a wait, but I'd rather that than have food that is beginning to dry up.

Why can't all M&S restaurants be as clean and efficient as this one at the Brotherhood, Peterborough?Staff can't be more obliging and helpful. Fast efficient service, tables are clean and cleared. Hot beverages and food.

This is the best jacket potato I have had and I am particular about the way it is presented. It came on an oval plate and every detail had been thought out. The good sized potato was perfectly cooked with a slightly crispy skin with two butter portions on the side of the plate, a separate bowl of cheese, a beautiful small fresh and crispy side salad with a separate small bowl of dressing. The reason I give this 5 stars is because it is one of the few places that I have ever come across that appreciates that the customer doesn't want the cheese melting whilst meal is waiting to be served or the dressing added to the salad when not everyone likes dressing. A good selection of other fillings were on offer including chilli which I was tempted by. I must add that I also had a perfect cup of decaf Cappuccino. At £6.30 for the meal and drink I would say that this is a good deal.

Four of us ate here in the restaurant. Starters wild mushrooms in cream/garlic on bread. Mains - gammon, braised beef, pork belly and fish and chips. Desserts apple and rhubarb crumble. The service was excellent and food hot and tasty. Excellent portions and well priced. Only one suggestion- the crumble top needed cooking/browning more. it was pale and tasted floury. Also be nice to have some background music as only a couple of tables occupied.
