We had dinner here when we stayed in Alnwick. I had the brisket and my husband had steak. The brisket was vey salty and I only ate a little of it My husband steak was nice but the sauce was very Strong which spoilt it. I did tell the waitress when she asked how Everything was but nothing happened. It was expensive for what we had. Was disappointing after reading the reviews.

Booked this resturant for my 50th Birthday after reading the reviews. The main course we had was lovely we could not fault it but the service let it down. We had a drinks order taken when we arrived but was not asked if we wanted anymore. As no one came to the table after they had brought our food we couldn't get another drink. We were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu which we said we did, after about 15 minutes we were still waiting and again no staff around to ask. Finally decided just to get the bill and leave as we felt like we were invisible. This spoilt what had been a lovely day for my 50th

Found this restaurant on Tripadvisor whilst looking for somewhere to eat whilst in Alnwick on holiday. The reviews for the Sunday roast were excellent so we booked in for a table of seven. We were not disappointed, one of the best roasts we’ve had at a restaurant. Everything was superb, including the local ale from the town. Unfortunately we aren’t local so can’t make it a regular occasion!

Excellent Sunday roast which, to our surprise, was served not just at lunchtime but into the evening. Beautifully cooked food and generous portions. Delicious desserts too. Friendly & attentive staff. Restaurant easy to find in the centre of Alnwick. Highly recommend.

What a great find when on holiday in Alnwick. The menu was appetizing and varied - then the food was amazing. The staff were superb, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Clearly a popular venue judging by the numbers of people getting turned away on both evenings we visited. Remember to book!

Great meal. We don’t eat meat but still enjoyed great fish and appetizer at the Market Tavern. One of the best meals we’ve had in England so far this week. Highly recommend it.

I was in the Market Tavern today 20/01/24 with my family for lunch the service was excellent and the food was good,a little bit pricey but I do realise it is a Punch Pub who rip the Tennents off with the rents,thank you for a nice meal an ex Punch Tennent (thank god)

Went for tea, warm welcome, had booked a table as heard how popular this pub is, food was superb, good choice on menu, large portions excellent value for money, good friendly service, would definitely recommend but make sure you book to avoid disappointment 😊

My wife has Coeliac disease so needs gluten free food, one son has extreme allergic response to eggs, shell-fish and peanuts (he carries and epi-pen) and the other son is vegeterian. Eating out can be difficult. Not here however! The lady who came to see us was completely unfazed and said choose what you want and I'll explain what we can do for you. She then proceeded to sort out what we could (and couldn't) eat. We had 4 different meals and all were perfect. We have had so many bad experiences in other restaurants that this was an absolute joy. We could have filmed this and used it as a training film on how allergies can and should be handled. We will return.

We were greeted promptly and shown to our table. There is an extensive range of drinks and we chose a nice bottle of white and some sparkling water. My wife had the Cod Loin and I had the slow cooked Belly Pork with creamy mash and Savoy Cabbage. After a moderate wait, the food arrived and was nicely presented and very tasty. The staff were very attentive throughout and regularly checked that everything was alright and that we didn't need anything else. My wife loved her ice cream sundae for dessert and I equally enjoyed my melt in the mouth, sticky ginger pudding with fresh cream. A thoroughly enjoyable evening in a busy pub with a pleasant atmosphere.

We were delighted with our evening at the Tavern Steakhouse. It was busy, but we were greeted promptly and shown to our table. The pub is old but is divided into rooms, each with a pleasant busy atmosphere. The waitress helped us choose our beers and took our order, which arrived in good time. I had the braised brisket which was heavenly, and my wife had the sirloin steak which was also excellent. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable which helped make it a special occasion for us both.

Wow. Spectacular 12oz steak. Large portion and the onion rings are the best I have ever had also the steakhouse sauce is very tasty. The place is lovely with friendly staff. Wonderful find whilst on holiday

What a fantastic find. The menu sounded great, the reviews were good so we decided to try this place. We weren’t disappointed. The food was amazing and great value too. The quality and flavour were ten out of ten. The service was excellent too. A lovely, cosy independent pub vibe.

Visited here last night with family and our two dogs and it was fabulous. Traditional style pub with a lovely atmosphere . Very friendly staff who were attentive without being overpowering. Great food and good portion sizes. The starter portion of chilli chips was almost a meal in itself. We had venison ,two Geordie chops and scampi which were all excellent. Child’s chicken and chips also decent portion. Good selection of draft beers, wines and spirits with a couple of cask ales. Definitely worth a visit .

Glad we went in sharp for lunch on a miserable morning got busy very quickly. My husband tried the house ale which he said was good I had Alnwick gin which was also very good. We had been looking forward all week to fish and chips so didn't even bother with menu. Great portion size loved everything in our plates definitely worth the wait.

Visited alnwick for a 2 nite break, got insider info from locals about this place, we ate the first day, just light snacks which were great, some so we returned the same days for dinner, we has the chateaubriand for 2 which was great, couldn't fault it, this place is well worth a visit whenever in alnwick, we'll done to the staff.

It’s our favourite place to visit for food on our visits to Alnwick . We’d definitely recommend the surf and turf . Always friendly staff. Looking forward to returning on our next Alnwick visit.

Ate here on Sunday evening, as not much else available. Booked table - wasn't ready at time booked Fish and chips - long black hair cooked into batter on fish. Replaced, more batter than fish. Sirloin and veg. Sirloin was tough and couldn't have had a thinner slice. Don't pay £1 more for this. Front of house staff were OK, and did remove the cost of fish and chips from bill.

Just had a lovely meal here. We hadn't booked but were welcomed in. The menu was extensive & we both found something we wanted. Allergies are respected & catered for. We were served by really friendly staff who went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Food was hot, fresh & delicious. Will definitely return next time we're in the area.

We picked this because it was near Alnwick castle and it was easy to get to, had a good ambience and vibe, and the food was excellent. I got the chorizo macaroni cheese and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. Chips were more like potato wedges but still good. A great place for food or just relaxing with drinks

Nice meal but the tavern itself was a bit grotty with sticky tables. The food was very good and the staff pleasant Can recommend the shepherds pie. I thought the prices were a bit steep considering the overall state of tired decor and ambiance

The place to eat in Alnwick 😊. Nice establishment, staff are so friendly, the ensure you have everything you need during your meal. The meals were fresh made and a descent size, you won't leave wanting more and don't leave before you try the sticky toffee pudding, it was the best 😋

Had a long wait as we had deliberately passed on starters in anticipation of Northumbrian portions, however all forgiven when it arrived. Generous portion of pink venison and a dish best described as ‘whale and chips’. Still no idea what pan haggerty is, but would definitely have it again. So impressed, decided on a second visit, which is when disappointment struck- no specials on Sunday, and if you are not a fan of Sunday roast your choice is limited. Suggest that should be made clear when booking.

Went here after our first choice was fully booked and was so glad we did! This was the nicest Sunday lunch all of us could remember having. Great selection of veg, home made yorkshires and the meat was amazing. We sat in the back restaurant but you could sit in the bar too.
