We didn’t enjoy our meal very much. It wasn’t awful but we heard the waitress telling someone that the Rotary Club are in on a Monday and that the wait would be about half an hour. The staff were efficient but seemed quite harassed, often running around. We didn’t particularly enjoy the meal and probably wouldn’t return. The hot turkey sandwich had gloopy gravy in, with a rubbery texture. The sauce on the chicken and BBQ melt tasted very artificial and too sweet. Think we maybe caught them on a bad day. 😅 We weren’t asked how our meal was when paying, which is quite unusual, I think they knew our thoughts.

Stayed here 2 nights in a twin room. Large updated pub/restaurant downstairs. All recently refurbished and clean with a modern feel. Room 6 was VERY hot even with 2 fans on the go. (Message to owner - clean the heat exchanger on your stand alone A/C unit!!!). Burger for dinner was fine. Breakfast Full English was excellent. (Another message to owner - good quality produce apart from sausage. Reduce bacon to 1 rasher, and spend a little more on the sausage?). All in all a nice place to stay.

This is a decent looking old coaching inn which appears to have been refurbished at some expense, and it now offers a contemporary feel with the main bar to the right and a slightly cosier room off to the left for dining. Staff were friendly and helpful, although didn’t seem to spend too much time in the dining part of the pub – on a couple of occasions we had to get up and go to the bar to find someone. The menu offered a good selection of “pub grub” dishes, and my Thai Green curry with rice and the addition of optional chicken was a decent and tasty dish with just the right amount of heat. Across the table, the Steak & Ale Pie with mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy was also well received and was a decent portion as well, and the prices were quite reasonable. Many pubs seem to want you almost £20 these days, so this was a pleasant change. Overall, pretty good, albeit nothing to get too excited about.

Recently renovated pub with 6 rooms, very comfy, good choice and standard of food, breakfast, understandably given the number of rooms, not a huge buffet, but more than adequate, and the cooked breakfast was excellent. Our room overlooked the main road, despite this no issues with noise/traffic etc. Recommended.

Went in for lunch and a couple of drinks with friends while on holiday. Firstly our waitress was so very pleasant, smiling and couldn't help us enough, even gave our dog a bowl of water and a couple of doggie treats. The food was excellent, very tasty, well presented and plentiful, even the small plate had more than enough on it to satisfy a hungry tummy. The cost of the dishes was very very reasonable too. Lastly the barmaid was jolly with a smile from ear to ear and it was a joy to be served by her. Overall I would highly recommend this establishment.

We had a fantastic time staying at the Coach and Horses, the staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was great and kept very clean with a 6ft wide bed and a large shower room with large shower, the room had good tea tray and biscuits every day, little extras in case you forgot your shaving kit or tooth brush and also ear plugs. The room was a bit hot but they provided an air cooler and a fan to cool things down. The breakfast was great and we also sampled the main menu on 2 evenings which was also good. The bar also has good beer! Timothy Taylors. We would recommend the Coach and Horses to anyone wanting a good base in this area, good for Hadrian's Wall and Roman sites, also Beamish is under an hour away for an all day trip. The town is nice and has just had a high street make over, parking by disc which is provided by the hotel, we managed to park opposite after returning from days out until 11am the next day, which suited us fine. We will be back, thanks to all the staff for making our stay so good.

I spent three nights bed and breakfast, when I arrived I was made so welcome by the owner. My room was neat and tidy, the en-suite was particularly impressive, with the fluffiest towels I have encountered for a long time. Dropped in here for a drink a few days ago after hearing some locals talking about it. We were not disappointed. Staff were friendly, place was clean and airy plusprices as expected in this area.decided to have a meal, noticed between 2-5 pm they had the deal of 2 meals from the classic pub menu for £15. As older people we opted for this option as expected the meals to be smaller as on the deal. They were hot, tasty and my husband's pie, homemade steak, was full of meat, tender and tasty. He couldn't eat it all so we took half home and had it between us for our tea the next day. Amazing. My salmon was cooked nicely and served with asparagus my favourite. We don't recommend many places from our travels but we would recommend this pub. Go and fill your boots with lovely food, atmosphere and nice staff.

I stayed here for one night as part of a business trip. The welcome was lovely. There is an issue with very limited on street parking outside and staff were so helpful in regard to this. The room was lovely, very clean and with some thoughtful little additions (bottled water and earplugs etc). We had an evening meal in the pub and the food was lovely, couldn't fault anything about it at all. Breakfast the next morning was freshly cooked to order and delicious. I would highly recommend and will certainly stay here again when in the area. The only downside is the lack of hotel parking (although there is a public car park within walking distance).

The fish very fresh and beautiful batter. My husbands meal was also delicious with fresh vegetables and loads of chicken. The beer was wonderful and finally the bathroom was so clean. We stayed for five nights B&B and were given a quiet upgraded room at the back of the hotel. Parking was a few minutes away in a large public car park. Having recently stayed in the rooms, I thought it was only a fair to review the bar as I did spend a little more time in the bar area than in the room, I was meeting a couple of mates up here for a night out, lovely Chinese just up the road where we ended up later on, I got here a little early so just managed to make the last few minutes of a Happy Hour Push the button there is a similar offer on in some of the pubs in Newcastle – so I was familiar with the game – I tried to get Free Drinks but missed out and ended up with 20% discount on my drinks instead, as I was staying there for a night I had a mini chat with the pub manager who informed me that there was new management involved and they were going to redevelop the bar, rooms, beer garden and a couple of other unused areas, he was quite proud of the investment they were making, and as the other 2 were taking their time getting there despite me trying to hurry them along for the last of the happy hour, I was told about the rooms that they had at the back of the building that were not really used and so could do with a new purpose, there was definite excitement in the air, as a couple of locals jumped in on the conversation in support of their local being brought back to life was there term, I did promise to return in a few months at which point they mentioned that it should be well underway and the rooms would have been modernised by then, I’m looking forward to that now, and might stay two night and try the Thai one night and the Chinese the second night. The beers were good my favourite drink is Jeremiah Weed, don’t see it too often and I was so happy to have several bottles of it the other night, friendly bunch of locals, when I called back around last orders as I could not remember the code to get in, I was worried about being locked out, I was updated on the pin and then offered why not come to Phoenix for a late drink as they are open later. – review of Phoenix to follow!

Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.
