Absolutely disgusting; if you want a MARGARINE sandwich with cheap brown bread, frozen fries, salad with wilted leaves, a pile of watercress and a slimey sauce that does match a "dressed crab sandwich" - this is the place to go - horrible and expensive. Also, a service with a slammed down glass, here we go. Plus, obscure objects in your panhagerty. Sadly, I have to ask the question, where have the traditional pubs gone?

We called in here for lunch whilst on a day trip to Amble. The pub is quite traditional, we sat in the bar as this is doggy friendly (can even order a doggy sausage). The food far outweighed our expectations, my husband had the burger, I had the steak baguette. But meals were perfect, my steak was tender and I didn't find one bit of fat. My hubby said his was the best pub burger he had ever had, it was home made and excellent quality. Definitely recommend. The staff were extremely helpful.

A proper pub. The staff smile - well one doesn't even when you try to cheer her up. Her grizzling points up the others positivity. The place is clean. One barmaid re-polished all the bar taps when they were already clean. Beer perfect, toilets immaculate. Next door to the busiest chippy in town. What's not to like? I will get a smile out of that barmaid if it kills me. I will. ... Right I'm off to have another go tonight. SWMBO appears not to mind, so that's all good.

Edit. June 2022 This pub has been revamped and is now no longer an old school boozer, it's now an up market pub and very nice it is too. After a few beers on an evening we booked for Sunday lunch. The sunday lunch was absolutely lovely, beautiful pink sirloin with fresh veg etc. The two girls serving were utterly charming and more importantly very good at their job and finally the atmosphere in the room was very chilled. Thanks 3rd visit. Oct 2022 Again no complaints moules frites was 1st class and the wife loved her steak. Again staff were a credit, friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit. 4th and 5th visit. Jan 2023. Another Sunday lunch, roast sirloin, again absolutely lovely and an evening meal once again top notch. 6th and 7th visit June 2023 Sunday lunch, the sirloin was if anything better than the previous visits, an excellent lunch yet again. Friday evening meal also first class and the staff, who all seemed to be different, were once again superb. Looking forward to returning in January. Another edit Sept 2024. Roast sirloin Sunday lunch x2. Lovely, tasty and hot. All staff are different from last time (except the boss). They might be different but yet again are all excellent at their job and lovely. Booked for Thursday.

We decided to eat here so i could try some local fish and my daughter could still choose something she would eat like a burger as she is a fussy eater. We sat and waited an hour until 5pm and i ordered the crab sandwich and daughter the half chicken. The crab sandwhich was made with cheap medium sliced shop bought bread, a big pile of salted tortilla chips and a side salad with a strange leafy topping. Ive had crab in the past and loved it its usually sweet. This had a sea water taste and thats it. I couldn’t finish it and scraped the crab out of part of it. I knew i could share some of my daughters chicken but wow was it dry. Even the darker meat was dry not just the breast. Never mind at least we aren’t hungry for the drive home. The chips were ok skin on but a bit sloppy.

What a fabulous place. We enjoyed our first meal so much we booked again. Food was freshly prepared and so good. The staff made us so welcomer and service was excellent. A great bonus for us was being so dog friendly. Had a meal here on a Wednesday night, two adults and one child. Pub was full, very busy, Staff were very polite and friendly, one staff member in particular was absolutely brilliant. Food was good, not brilliant, but certainly not bad and reasonable for the price. Fish and chips was good, fish was certainly fresh and well cooked. We asked for a child's portion of sausage and mash, which is not on the menu, but it didn't cause a problem and we were charged the same as any other kids meal. Solid place to go for a decent pub meal, friendly for children, easily not the worst around. £45 for main course for two adults and 1 child plus one round of soft drinks. Good value for money.

Great food and pub (although ales are a bit pricey) but trying to get in during the summer holiday season seems impossible. More than happy to get you through the door out of season and in winter. This evening, me and the wife took our two kids for a meal and was very much looking forward to it. After a long wait for our food to arrive, I was completely gutted that my 32oz tomahawk steak was completely overcooked, dry, and inedible! How the chef managed to mess up on a £60 dish is beyond me! I had to send it back it was that bad! Not only this, but the blue cheese sauce was like water. My wife's monkfish curry had that much butter in it. The butter was puddled in the bottom! My 6 year old son was joking, saying his steak was tough. My daughters steak was meant to be med-well done. It was more rare! I didn't pay for the £60 tomahawk steak, but I did still pay over £80 for everything else. After leaving, I was kicking myself as I knew that I shouldn't have paid for any of this utterly rubbish food! Your staff and especially your so-called chefs need to have a really think about if they are in the right industry! Shocking is an understatement!

The Harbour Inn is one of the best places to eat in Amble without any doubt. The food is second to none and the staff are superb. BUT they do have a very perplexing and cavalier approach to when they are open and when they aren’t despite what their advertised opening hours say. We went in for dinner this evening at 19:55 to be told they were closed. We don’t live in Amble, we’re visiting and we go where we fancy for dinner so to be turned away over an hour before the advertised closing time is quite frankly a pain because we then have to find where else to eat from the very limited selection of places that don’t involve driving.

Went on a busy saturday lunchtime. The fish platter was excellent, Craster kipper pate, prawns, smoked salmon, fried fish, crab pate with chunky bread and salad. A good example of the local food and does Northumberland proud. My fish and chips however was disappointing, over cooked fish, chips were overdone and not very good. Staff were very busy with some large groups and didn't come to check if everything was ok which was understandable given the circumstances. So a tale of 2 halves.

We were recommended to visit this pub whilst staying in the Amble area on holiday. We booked a table because we wanted to be sure of getting one. The pub is dog friendly and they were made to feel very welcome. The restaurant isn’t particularly large but there was adequate room for us all to sit comfortably. The food when it came was absolutely lovely. My husband had the brisket which was ‘melt in the mouth’ and I had the lamb chop which was delicious. The accompanying potatoes were gorgeous! Enjoyed a meal here with friends. A little pricier than some places but a good choice of food and the restaurant was so cosy with every table having a candle alight. I had scampi and it was lovely but the chips were very off-putting to look at. They weren't crispy and were dark brown in colour. They tasted ok. The salad was very nice & fresh. My hubby had a burger and his chips were the same. Shame really. The food was piping hot though, which I like. The only other point is that last orders was at 2130. Avoid at all costs. we went here on 2 occasions the first time I had chicken in a basket the chicken was very nice however the chips that came with it were both burnt and sloppy when I mentioned this to 1 of the waiting staffing was told that's how they come are not all customers like them as they are a matter of taste .however the other waitress apologised and replaced with nicely cooked French fries. However I ordered dessert of Harbour mess with ice-cream and chocolate sauce after a 10min wait was told the chef had made a mistake and it would be another 10 mins wait .no apology ..... 2 days later thought it may have been a 1 off so tried again on this occasions I ordered chicken and mushroom linguine simple enough to make you'd think when it came out it was missing the chicken brought this to the attention of waiting staff who apologised and took it away when she returned and I quote chef say she forgot to put chicken in no apologies from chef no can we get you a drink on the house just told it would be another 15 mins before it would be ready by this time my wife had finished her meal . All this took place with only my wife and myself in restaurant god help them if ever they have a full house maybe time to get a qualified chef or stop serving food .totally disgusted hence would recommend you all avoid

One of the best meals have had in a long time and we're very large baguettes with loads of roast potatoes each.... I would describe the small beef dinner as a very large portion anywhere else.. Went for a Stargazing weekend. Positives: excellent food and accommodation. Location is ideal for walking Hadrian's wall/ visiting Sycamore Gap. Brilliant little microbrewery and tap room. Bar staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Negatives: very awkward interaction with one restaurant waitress on the first evening. Seen to the table but only 3 menus for 4 of us. She said she would get one but didn't. My wife went up to get it after some time only for the waitress to say " I can get that for you"! A bit late. Followed by no-one coming to take a drink or food order for over 20 minutes so we had to attract her attention. She did not apologise for the delay butclaimed to have been busy. We had watched her setting up tables for breakfast instead yet this was around 7.40 pm. When challenged on this she became aggressive rather than apologetic. She took the order but when asked for a jug of water, she ignored the request and stormed off. (the water did arrive, she just failed to acknowledge the request. This put our group at unease as we had 2 more breakfast and 1 dinner service to go! This may seem petty but it reaput a dampener on the weekend. Her customer service skills were non existent. All the other servers were polite, frank attentive. The bar seems to discourage later evening drinks as all the chairs/stools get put up on the tables as people leave, well before last orders. After coming in from the stargazing event around 10pm on a Sunday night, we weren't even sure that the bar was open. It was and the team were friendly but it just wasn't a welcoming environment to see the place ready for hoovering! Finally, the stargazing event was badly organised. There was no information at check in. We got most info from one of the waitresses and even then the directions weren't clear. We have been to an event down south before which had better presented information. The actual set up is very good with a great guest speaker. Unfortunately for us, rain and cloud stopped us from using the telescopes outside. The planetarium was an excellent facility. It is a shame that these issues affected what promised to be a great visit to a lovely pub.
