We were having a wander around the delightful Swaffham market shops and fancied a cup of tea and a coffee so decided on the Market Cross Cafe Bar because it looked so fabulous from the outside, with the ivy growing around it. The building is a former pub dating back to 1789 and closed in 1903, was then a private house and Kay Wells opened it as a cafe bar in 2008. I had a lovely Camomile citrus tea and we decide to eat. Believe it or not that’s the small breakfast in the photo! Absolutely delicious. My partner had mushrooms and tomatoes on toast and she thought they were the nicest mushrooms she’d had for ages. Well worth a visit.

Lovely spot for lunch in a sunny day. It’s right in the centre of town and by the free car park. You do need to enter your number plate to park. On a sunny day it was lovely to sit outside. Food was lovely and fresh. Amazing chocolate cake.

We enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast sitting outside. Great coffee. Service was a bit slow but it was a Sunday so it wasn’t a problem for us. The food was well worth the wait - one of the tastiest breakfasts I’ve had for a long time. Would definitely return if I’m in the area again.

Visited on a Sunday morning wasn't overly busy. We sat down and the staff took around 10 minutes to come and serve us. Once we ordered our drinks came then the extortionate wait for two breakfasts of over an hour. The ingredients were good quality and tasty however because of the long wait we then needed extra drinks. Upon going to pay we were advised the bill was nearly £40 for 2 breakfast, 2 lattes and a pot of tea. When I questioned this and said about the extended wait I was advised they were very busy. I definitely will not be returning to this establishment due to the poor service and long wait.

Lovely little cafe right on the market place in the centre of Swaffham. Picturesque from the outside and quaint inside. Friendly and helpful staff. You don't fell like visitors, they make you feel like you've known them for ages. Even the locals do the same. We called in for a quick bite to eat. Teacakes and tea. Very tasty, plenty of butter and warm water to add to the teapot for a top up. We enjoyed so much, we went back two weeks later. We only had a quick lunch, but meals are available and the cakes look divine. Homemade jams are available too.

This cafe was a fabulous find, close to a carpark that lets you park free for 2 hours. The breakfast I had was excellent produce fabulously cooked to perfection. You could have a large full breakfast serving or smaller serving. I had the large one on day 1 which was really filling on day 2 I went for the smaller serving which was just right for me. The menu had other breakfast choices too. The coffee was great too. If you are in Swaffham you won’t get better looked after, the staff are friendly and polite. The service was excellent, the food amazing, I definitely recommend you go. I’m going back for day 3 I enjoyed the food so much.

I had a very pleasant breakfast here on a Sunday morning. It gets busy (not too busy) with plenty of regulars so I guess that tells you all you need to know. It might be worth booking in advance. The portions were large, food tasty, service good, atmosphere relaxing and price wasn’t too bad either (£15 for a full english and pot of tea). Parking is a bonus, being free and just outside in the town centre car park.

Popped in for a tea and cake - had to chase up order for cake and cold scone as had been waiting for at least three quarters of an hour. Tea was practically finished by the time it turned up. Scone was served warm with jam which was not ordered. I didn’t see prices of cakes on menu, however prices on their website are less than we were charged! We weren’t the only ones having to wait a long time - a family left as they were tired of waiting. Very disappointing.

Looked a bit neglected inside but the waitress was friendly. No menus anywhere to be seen so had to go and ask for one. We thought the food was expensive £12ish for a breakfast with two of everything which we can get in Wetherspoons for half that including as many hot drinks as you like. Jacket potato with beans and cheese was about £7.50 and small pork and stilton sausage rolls £4.50 each. They were nice but could have been bigger. The hot drinks were OK though. Would probably try elsewhere next time we are in Swaffham.

We all are lunch and the food was great and very reasonably priced, I thought. Coffees all fine too and staff were pleasant and accommodating. The only thing that stood out was the slowness of queueing to order, ordering, waiting for the order... Had I known just how much waiting would have been involved, I'd have driven on to my destination. Let's not blame the staff entirely here - I feel it was mixture of the time of day (1pm) and the sudden rush of wealthy looking retired customers, all sour faced and disregarding of their co-sour faced customers. And all taking an age to browse menu whilst holding up the queue. Having said that, the speed on totting up orders on calculators, processing the queue, and bringing food out was slow. Let's just say the food and drinks were great but avoid if the place is busy.

Just passing Swaffham and stopped and had a look around. We decided to have a bite to eat and it was exceptional, the freshest brown bread with thick cut ham on the bone with tomato and accompanied with salad, peppers, carrot and salad dressing and a BLT sandwich also with the same salad. They were the best sandwiches we have ever had, accompanied with 2 large coffees made it a very pleasant experience.

We stopped in Swaffham while on our way to the coast and spotted the Market Cross Cafe Bar which fortunately had a free table outside. It's dog friendly so we could sit with our spaniel (virtually all the customers had a dog of some sort) in the sun. We enjoyed some very generous sandwiches in good quality bread plus some perfect chips. To drink we had some cold beers (they are licensed) and good coffee. Service was quick and prices were very reasonable. Inside it looked very cosy so it would also be a good venue on a wet day.

Right in the centre of town is this very inviting cafe. I say cafe rather than restaurant as that is what it appeared to be from the outside when I called in one lunch time. The menu looked to be cafe-style too, which is fine by me as I was only after a coffee. The decor is varied, interesting and pleasant, particularly the coloured glass window facing onto the town square. The wooden bench seating I occupied wasn’t overly comfy and a bit tight to get into. In fact, all the seating is squeezed in a bit tightly, but then the space available is limited. It is certainly a popular venue, particularly with the older generation. It was noticeable that the “cheese on toast” was a popular order. The toaster must have been working flat out! While this place has its limitations, I couldn’t fault the staff. They were very polite and helpful both to me and other customers. Top marks to the both ladies. Nice latte too.

Swaffham as a town is not the most inspiring place but we enjoyed lunch at the Market Cross. My wife had chilli con carne. She enjoyed it: I tasted it and found it pleasant but not that spicy. I had the vegetarian deli slate, which came with hummus, falafel, olives, onions in balsamic vinegar and warm bread: very attractive presented. Staff were pleasant. The decor in the cafe could perhaps do with a bit of a refresh, and our tea pot was not the best pourer! But all in all a nice place for lunch.

Trying to support this local cafe, which we have done many, many times before, we went for coffee on Saturday afternoon. One of our party can not eat gluten, so we asked which of their cakes were gluten free? We were told that they did not have anything available at that time which was gluten free. We then we said we would order three coffees and two cakes from them and pop round the corner to buy a gluten free biscuit from Costa. We were told that we would not be allowed to drink our coffee, or eat cake from Market Cross Cafe if we purchased a biscuit from Costa and brought in to their outside seating area to drink with their coffees and cakes.

Unfortunately I can’t comment on the quality of food as we barely made it past the door. We were en route to our family holiday with our thirteen month old son and stopped off in Swaffham for some lunch. On arrival, our son needed a nappy change, and not knowing the town at all we headed for the place we knew we’d find change facilities - Costa. I’m not one to use a cafe toilet without buying something so bought a takeaway coffee so we could move on quickly to find somewhere for lunch with my son being hungry. We thought Market Cross looked nice so headed in there, but I was immediately barked at by an incredibly rude member of staff that I couldn’t bring ‘that’ in there, referring to my cup. No hello, no quiet ‘sorry but would you mind covering the branding’ or ‘can I give you a cup to put it in instead’, just barked at across the restaurant in front of other customers. Thankfully we found a nice cafe nearby that let us in in our bedraggled, tired traveller state. Wouldn’t go back to Market Cross out of principle; the staff need lessons in speaking politely to customers/any member of the public.

We were surprised that the teapot that was used was completely incapable of delivering tea into a cup, something of problem for a tearoom. In their defence the waitress did warn us they could be difficult!! When our food arrived it was on the most unstable cake stand which kept rolling about at different angles. While the sandwiches were ok, cheese and coleslaw? the golf ball sized scones, in size and texture were a real disappointment. I think that the MK is a lovely place but it maybe needs to take a little more care in its presentation.

This place looks lovely outside and cosy and welcoming inside. Service was good and we felt welcome. Frank had a cream cheese and smoked salmon sandwich with salad garnish which he thought was good. I had vegetable chilli with wedges and salad., The wedges were good as was the salad but the chilli had no kick at all, seemed to made with a meat substitute and was bland. Even the very generous covering of cheese was bland so for me not a success...vegie chillies I have had before have been really tasty. The most disappointing thing was the coffee. Just about every bar, café, pop up café and restaurant serves really good coffee but this was tasteless and watery...like old filter coffee. We asked for Americanos. And no we did not complain because there were other diners and in such a small space that would have been embarrassing both for us and for the staff. Really, though, good coffee is not hard to do. If you want a sandwich and a place to rest for a short while then why not try Market Cross. There is a decent range of sandwiches available too. We shared the club sandwich which at £8.95 felt a little expensive considering that it was a relatively cheap version of a meat club sandwich. A sausage & bacon sandwich is fine, but in my experience/view is not really a club sandwich. I would have been prepared to pay more for a really good classic club sandwich.

I recently met a friend for lunch and the food was great. Ordered a mature cheddar cheese and roasted vegetable sandwich and it was served on lovely, thick, fresh seeded bread. The salad garnish was good quality too, drizzled with a delicious dressing. The staff were really friendly. I like coming to this place as the food is always good quality at a competitive price and I love the decor.

A very pleasant and popular small cafe-cum-restaurant in the centre of Swaffham. Great location with both indoor and outdoor seating. A varied menu, but with food only served to late afternoon. Unfortunately not open evenings except on special occasions. Friendly proprietor and efficient staff. It has a loyal following and you cannot fault the ambience.

A cafe rather than a restaurant but none the worse for that, The food was very good and the service friendly. Not exciting but a very pleasant place for lunch nonetheless.

Had nice scones and tea here - friendly service, choice of seating inside and out - wish all smoking was banned from eating places as we had to remove the smelly ashtray from our table when we sat outside - hence only four stars

We have visited this restaurant before and enjoyed it...love the room upstairs. I travelled 45 minutes to meet up with one of my family here for lunch during the school holidays. Admittedly they were busy but there was no-one available to show us to a table. That was ok, we had been before. We were asked to take our order downstairs when we had decided because they hadn't got time to come and collect it. I ordered and paid before getting the food with no problems. My family member then tried to order for herself and her children. We were told they had run out of burgers!!!!!! I asked if they could get more and was rudely told no, they are all gone...no proper apology at all. We went to consult the menu once more and nothing else was suitable for children who were looking forward to burgers. Therefore, I asked for a refund and we had to eat elsewhere. This is disgraceful and very disappointing. The food is very expensive for what it is and although I love the way its set out it does feel as though a good clean would be nice, the carpet upstairs is extremely stained and there are holes in it on the stairs. All of this we could have overlooked if there had been excellent service and food. I am still incredulous that a restaurant could run out of burgers and only half past one in the school holidays!!!!!!!!! And furthermore, not even sorry about it...we considered visiting the butcher across the road to buy some burgers for them .lolNot happy, not sure we will ever cross the threshold again.

This was our second visit and we really enjoyed it. The main thing that had spoiled our first visit was the length of time it took to bring us our food. On this occasion the service was first rate. It is a quaint, friendly place, producing a slightly limited range of well-produced food. If you like your lasagne rich and meaty and very cheesy, then this is the place for you. In fact, we have resolved to make a third trip just for the lasagne.

Just for coffee and cake - very good indeed. Had we not been eating that evening we most definitely would have had something more substantial - everything brought to the tables looked very tempting.

Stopped here today after finding this on Tripadvisor. We were warmly welcomed and given the option of sitting in the bar or upstairs (very steep stairs) for waitress service. We chose the Ploughman's Lunch, where you have the options of choosing 2 options from: cheddar, Stilton, brie, prawns, beef or piri piri chicken. The plates were full of colourful & tasty food; the beef was plentiful and tender. It took us ages to get through and unfortunately didn't have room gir a dessert. Another customer couldn't manage her lunch, and she was offered the option of having it packaged up and taking it home. We will be back next time we are in the area to try something else off the menu!

We have had a drink here a few times but for the first time we had lunch. It was a bargain offer price and the food was delicious. The best meal I've had in a pub. The staff are always friendly and accomodating.

I live a mile from Brome hall and have never visited this place before! Why I ask myself? Took my mum for afternoon tea today. A warm friendly welcome. The tea was awesome. Couldn't fault at all. Perhaps next time and yes, there will be a next, the conservatory would have been wiser so we could have a sleep on the sofas. Sunday lunch is also on the agenda.!!
