This gorgeous setting is well matched by the friendly and efficient service and really great food. The baked Camembert was a lovely starter, the beef and the sea bass were great mains. I can’t wait to go back in the evening to see it all lit up and to feel the evening atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lovely setting , went with a friend. We chose the 17. 99 meal deal at lunchtime at 12. The food was delicious main and dessert, except that we specifically said to the waitress that we wanted our steak well done ,with no pink. Unfortunately when it came it was a light pink on the outer part, which I tolerated as it did taste good, but towards the middle it was runny red, and meat was really pink! I couldn't stomache that. Very, , very annoying as we specifically asked for meat well done ,with no pink .!!

Exquisite! Finest food finest food finest produce! How is this not Michelin star? One of the best meals I’ve had out for some time. In fact you will see from my reviews I don’t often review restaurants and haven’t felt the need to review anywhere in some time! But this was truly an experience! I have been coming to Ipswich on business for the last ten years and can’t believe I’ve not stumbled across this place previously. I love a boat so was attracted to the amazing venue that’s steeped in history and was not only pleasantly surprised but overwhelmed by the whole experience. I was running alone and the super friendly staff made me feel right at home. As for the food wow! The chef really knows what he’s doing as you could tell each and every dish was prepared with passion and attention. Can’t wait to return!

There s an amazing story behind the ownership of this floating restaurant on the marina in Ipswich, but for me it gets a perfect score in all its aspects: ambience, service, menu, but not least of course the food on offer. The taste of all the dishes we chose was quite putstanding. The presntation was beautiful and yhe prices quite reasonable. I also support the management decision to require a guarantee of £10 per cover against possible no-show, something that is undermining our restaurant industry.

What a gem of a restaurant. We were a bit apprehensive the boat in a dock situation as we have fallen for the setting only in the past. We couldn't have been more impressed with The Mariners. We hadn't booked for lunch but were shown to our table. The waiter gave us our menu and offered water as a hot day. My husband chose roast beef and I had chicken supreme with scotch egg and mushroom sauce. Both were very very good. My husband asked for his beef medium and when the waiter brought it out he asked if it was too rare. But it was beautiful. I can't fault the service and would highly recommend this restaurant. The menu has a history of the boats ownership which is very interesting

Have previously been to Mariners and it was an amazing experience. They catered well for gluten free (Coeliac Disease). Now, much to my great sadness, I also have a dairy allergy (actually quite common in those with Coeliac Disease), and they struggled to cater for both gluten and dairy-free sadly. The set menu there was one option for starter, one for the main and none of the desserts - it had to be sourced from their Bistro across the road. Food is delicious, and amazingly presented and staff are courteous and helpful. Just not great at catering for all dietary requirements. Please do better - this isn't a choice and I'm still a foodie and like to enjoy good food!

Had been to Mariners a couple of times previous and had a good experience both times. I made the host aware of this on entry . Unfortunately today’s experience wasn’t so good . Starters were satisfactory, had rib eye steak for main, was tasty but rather tough. Price was double what I would pay in my local and have to say my local’s steaks are better cuts. The biggest issue with this place is they charge for bottled tap water. They charged us £2.50 Which in the grand scheme of things is not much when you have just spent £120 for 2 people but when I asked the waitress wearer I was being charged for tap water she refused to answer. The main host possibly the owner then came over . I asked the same question to her . Her response was well we didn’t get it out of the Orwell! All I wanted was an honest answer. So hence I won’t be coming back again.

Took my daughter out for dinner for her 21st, It was a Tuesday night so quiet but lovely atmosphere. The menu is limited with choices but I don't mind that as it was clearly all fresh, so they have to make sure of turnover. My daughter is a celiac, which they catered for extremely well. Food was fantastic and the service was spot on. The only thing to be careful of is to look out for the emails to confirm your booking, I nearly didn't see mine so I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't replied. Will defiantly go back when next visiting Ipswich.

I had the cauliflower pakora starter which was bland and consisted of three small floret deep fried and some very bland indiscriminate sauce . My partner had the fish cake which was far better and had plenty of flavour and a nicely poached egg on top. For main I tried the beef carbonade which was a single beef rib in a nice heavy red wine gravy with a few chunks of carrot in it and half a plate of reasonable chips… the person who wrote the review under this one clearly has never been to a really decent restaurant. To say it’s the best dinner you will probably ever eat is hilarious!… it was ok and THATS it! My partner had the fish skewer which at £29 was really not that good… a couple of pieces of white fish and the same of salmon ,a couple of pieces of red onion and pepper along with literally a handful of chips. Oh and some salad leaves. Ok so you’re sat on a moored boat built in 1900… yes it’s nice but it’s not that special.. and to top it all it’s in Ipswich which has gone massively down hill these days. So with a bottle of Pinot Grigio which was fairly decent the bill came to just over £100 with my more than 10% gratuity I kindly added .. ( we didn’t bother with desserts)

I’m sorry to say that we did not have a good dining experience. When I made the booking, I was told they would make a note on our booking that it was my fiancé’s birthday and that they would make it special. They did nothing to mark the occasion. We chose the festive menu and asian starter was bland at best and the plum jus lacked any flavour at all. With those ingredients, it should have been bursting with flavour. For our main course, we chose the beef brisket. Mine was like chewing old leather and my fiancé could not cut through his because it was sinewy, stringy and tough. It takes a lot for us to reject a plate of food but this was not edible. The waiter took it away and offered to get an alternative. We agreed to try the turkey but this was disappointing because we like to try different things when we eat out and hadn't travelled all that way for a turkey dinner. We then waited, and waited and just as we were on the point of walking out, the food arrived. Surely you should prioritise customers that are experiencing issues like this and get them their alternative food quickly, particularly given that the waitress had told us that it was nowhere near as busy that night as on the weekend, We also saw the lady on a neighbouring table sending her plate back too so we certainly weren’t the only unhappy customers. We finally had our main courses nearly an hour and a half after we arrived. Sadly, this attempt was also poor. There was a mix of slices of breast and brown meat. I am a lover of brown meat but this was tough and dry, and I could not cut it let alone eat it. Having a description of ‘all the trimmings’ obviously avoids a checklist but surely this should include the basics like roast potatoes and cranberry sauce in with the trimmings? Once again, the flavour was lacking with precious little gravy, which made the whole thing dismal and we just wanted to leave. It was the worst turkey dinner I have ever had. We explained the issues to the waiter and asked for the desserts to be packed up so we could take them with us. He didn’t seem to grasp how awful our ‘celebratory’ evening had been and duly presented us with a bill for the full amount of £111. We paid but honestly, some small gesture saying ’sorry about that so we’ve taken something off the bill in recognition of your disastrous evening’ might have helped a little.

We went to the Mariners for a 60th birthday meal where the top deck was hired out for the whole party. All staff were very attentive and the food was extremely good quality, with a great choice of beer, wines and spirits at the bar. Went today for a Christmas meal, several of us had ordered the vegan Wellington which on the menu was served with ‘all the trimmings’. However, what it came with was three small pieces of sweet potato and some green beans. When we questioned this the staff did offer some sides, but none of these were vegan. One-of-a-kind location, but that's it. We were a large group so we had pre-booked pre-ordered and pre-paid. We ordered from the set menu, and were given a time slot. The service was so slow that the starter course took over an hour to arrive, and the main course arrived after we were supposed to vacate the table! The food arrived so late that one of our party had to leave for a commitment and abandon half her meal. The waiter had the gall to be sarcastic when she tracked him down the third time to ask where our food was! Then they confused the drinks orders, and confused the dessert orders, and wanted us to hurry up and finish ASAP because another party had booked the table! Finally, the bill arrived as we were finishing the dessert, and they had forgotten that we'd pre-paid so there was a £500 bill! I think they could see we were furious so they cancelled the £500 and comped us the drinks, but I sincerely cannot dis-recommend this restaurant enough. They coast on the draw of their location, but the food was mediocre, the service was dreadful, and they're so expensive they're not even worth going to for drinks.

Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one's first evening meal in the hotel's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand). This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being "an R in the month", mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a "seafood skewer", presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not "fine dining", perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest!) weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included) was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet.

Was really looking forward to having dinner here as my partner and I have always said that when we are next in Ipswich this is a must as it was his 70th birthday we decided to have a few days in Ipswich and of course made a reservation, however, it turned out to be a big disappointment although my starter was lovely it was the best part of the entire meal for me, my partner said his starter of sesame and soy glazed scallops was bland with no real taste, for my main course I chose the Jackfruit with bao bun the bao bun was inedible but the rest of the meal was ok, my partner had the Beef Wellington which he asked for medium rare came to the table rare and he said the dinner was very salty, we both had the Cognac ice cream for dessert which was ok. The restaurant was very busy and no one came to check if we were happy with our meal so we had to wait until the waitress came to collect the plates and when she asked if we had enjoyed the meal we told her of our disappointment with the food which she was very apologetic about, all in all it was a very disappointing birthday celebration meal

My word this was poor. We have been there several times and it was great. We booked for this evening and really built it up to our friend. Ordered 2 starters and only got one. Waiter made a mistake - it happens. After 1 hour and 15 minutes we asked where our mains were. 15 minutes later I was ready to walk out but was persuaded to stay. Suspect any dessert would have come around breakfast time. I have no problem paying top dollar for a good experience but this was rubbish. Food was ok but the service destroyed the evening. A picturesque setting, with harbour views from a former Belgian customs gunboat blessed with great food and friendly service, was just the start of a memorable visit to Ipswich. My spring chicken was delicious, and my companion enjoyed a sumptuous seafood skewer, all washed down with a couple of pints of the local ale. Neither of us are fans of dessert, so we finished our meal with a malt whisky - the Bruichladdich 27-year old, which was magnificent!

Not a great experience. A beef wellington was presented as a lamb dish, overall choice was limited for GF. The service was very poor, a bottle of wine was corked (it was replaced however) and despite the owner telling my mother on her 81st birthday that she could have a Creme Brûlée desert, staff had no idea and told her she couldn’t. Then at the end, I requested some water and the waitress, sometime later, brought a bottle to the table behind us and not to us. The food itself was OK but really not deserving of the price tag. A Gordon Ramsey approach tonight would have been brutal.

Not regular diners here however, have been many times over the years. Turned up without booking today & was well accommodated. Great food & drink at fair prices! Thank you, see you again soon 😃

A treat for my wife's birthday, pleasant atmosphere, efficient service, my wife had the cod steak which she enjoyed, I ordered the spicy lamb, I wasn't very impressed, the three small pieces of lamb we're full of sinew and gristle and a lot of fat, mostly ended up on the side of my plate, certainly not worth the money, a shame really, it spoilt the evening for me, I kept quiet and didn't complain as to not spoil my wife's birthday meal. Otherwise a pleasant evening if not a little expensive.

Enjoyed a meal here with friends. Food seems a bit steep for the money and the service could and should be better for the price. Nice evening though and atmosphere is nice.

Had an amazing birthday meal here. The food choice was great, lots of flexibility in the choices. The food was divine. The staff were friendly and attentive. No free parking, but plenty of car parks to choose from.

Loved the whole experience, the only thing I would say is £11 for a glass of mediocre valpolicelle wine is rather alot. But guess we could have said no!!

Thank you for a lovely 20th wedding anniversary celebration dinner. The food was superb but the service, welcome and atmosphere absolutely made it. We appreciated the double view table too. It was our first visit but I think that we’ll be finding lots of special occasions/excuses to return!

We had a wonderful lunch sitting up on the upper deck at The Mariners what better way to spend a hot sunny Saturday afternoon looking at lots of stunning boats in the Marina Enjoying a gorgeous glass of wine whilst waiting for our lunch to arrive we were served by the lovely Caitlin who coincidentally reminded us of our lovely granddaughter We chose the 2 course set menu which was amazing value we had Lamb Rump which we agreed was amazing I choose chocolate fondant which was well worth the extra 10 minute wait my husband choose White Russian Crème Brûlée which looked amazing & apparently tasted just as good

I’ve been meaning to visit here for a while now, as always hear good things & it’s always busy when I walk past. I wasn’t disappointed! Mu friend and I visited on a Sunday morning in November, around 11.30. Luckily we got the last available table! Which was outside, with a lovely view. It was a warm morning, but there were blankets just incase. I went for Smoked salmon Pan De Cristal & added a poached egg. Really generous portion size and a generous amount of tasty salmon, fresh rocket etc. I really liked the dill oil on my bread, absolutely lovely! 😋 To drink I had a tea ☕️ (Pictured) My friend had Chicken Pan De Cristal and a smoothie. I’ve added a photo. Really nice atmosphere, you’re not rushed at all. Friendly staff, especially the owner, who has a great sense of humour. He made me laugh when he told my Spanish friend how to order 😊 An absolute Gem! I can see why it’s always packed! See you again soon 😊
