Marina Cafe in Rother

It’s October. It’s camber sands. Yes it was £7.50 but it was also one of the best finish finger sandwiches I’ve ever had. I don’t begrudge them a living when they serve food like this.

Frozen chips not fish shop chips. £4.50 for a very small portion. Ketchup is sour.

We visited here Sept 2024. A beautiful sunny day so we could sit outside and being midweek not so many people about. We ordered 2 medium fish and chips and 2 pints of San Miguel and I nearly fell over when asked for £42 !! However, when the food arrived, freshly cooked, it was excellent. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Other than the overpriced beer I can't complain. I suppose it's a seasonal business and so they have to make their money when they can. We had a great day out and the fish and chip lunch here was a big part of it.

Do not eat the chips here here , McCain oven chips served (not proper chip shop chip) , fish was decent at least I ended up going to fish& chip shop after eating here just around the corner to get larger cod / better battered / freshly made chips for a couple £ less with larger portions Would not advise to eat here (£5 approx for McCain oven chips& small portions ….)

£7 a pint in my opinion is to much it was cheaper last year, just cause you can take the Mick due to location doesn t mean u should. Not good

Really poor quality food. Not very affordable either. Definitely a let down. Don't do it. Wish I read reviews before walking in.

Really disappointing!!! Overpriced instant espressos and parking. £5 for two espressos and £6 for 1 hour parking. Not coming back here, sorry. 🫤

What an absolute disappointment. Food was terrible, ordered two sausage sandwiches for £6 pounds each and two coffees at £3 each, sausages are the cheapest and deepfried, bread is the one in the supermarket that you would never buy. Coffee is from a push button machine. Overpriced garbage, shameful but they probably make a fortune in the summer. Take an extra 20 minute stroll to Frankies on the beach, food is more expensive but at least it's very good. I will never set foot in this one again. Btw after the first mouthful and first sip of the coffee it went in the bin, better to waste £18 than end up with food poisoning.

I’m not sure what kind of ‘cafe’ this is. It’s very run down, very unprofessional people working in there and you have to wait for your food to be called once ordered, (which is very expensive by the way), and then you can go and find your own table. The salt and ketchup are tied to a table so you can’t ‘steal’ them and once you’re sat down, no one comes around at all to ask if you want anything else. You have to do the whole order at the till, collect your own food and sit down again. Awful. Do not go here. Plenty of other options around!

Not bad food , for reasonable prices.

Here we have an example of a potential nice restaurant café managed in the worse way possible. FOOD Avoid at all costs burger, hotdogs and ketchup... all the worse quality ever. The Maionese, stored close to the kitchen, was liquid. Inside the burger there was no salad, no tomatoes...just the beef low quality 4mm patty ad cheese slide. 11£ with no tasty chips. I don't want to talk about the hot dog that when left after one bite. CUSTOMER SERVICE The woman at the till shouldn't stay at the till. Unfriendly, cold. PLACE We can't complain about the place. Is in front of the sea so you can enjoy a lovely view.

Never have i met such Rude, Arogant women they wont ruin our day hope they slip on a banna peel. Shooting their own foot if they were nice and friendly we would have overlooked how dirty the place is and have spent more. Also their electrics are a fire hazzard. such a pity because this business has great potential.

Very indecisive writing this review as there were good and bad parts of our visit. The location is great, the ice cream is one of the best i’ve tasted, and the battered cod tasted wonderfully fresh. However, the prices were high (moderately reasonable given the location), the chips seemed like mediocre oven chips and defo wasn’t fresh ‘chippy’ chips, and the lady serving went straight from serving customers to placing a Flake into our ice cream without putting on gloves or washing her hands (ew!). We had both are warm food and ice cream as takeaway, but the restaurant seemed clean enough.

Awful food, fish and chips was at least edible, but burger was ridiculously bad. Ended up chucking it… Paid £11.50 for it (cheeseburger and chips), didn’t expect a fancy burger for this price, but was hoping it will at least be edible. (Ketchup was the worst I have ever tasted too)

Reasonable coffee, long life biscuits. A welcome put stop on a chilly day when everything else was closed.

The absolute worst, most disgusting coffees we've ever tasted. Just had to chuck them. Shame it's so bad as the seating outside is nice.

Dishonest business. Pretended that the first charge on my debit card hadn't gone through due to poor signal on the card machine (when it had) and then charged me again. My mistake for not demanding the receipt showing the failed payment. The sausage and two bottles of water were fine though.

Awesome honeslty, was so cold we never got too close to the sea as the wind was too much, and none checked before the weather.. so clothes not too warm on us, we hide by the terraced place and the guys played us trombone and we had lovely donuts, spanish donuts, 6 pounds each. And yea.. cN not wait to checkout weather and Next opportunity to to there, i need swimming as ... ASAP:))

Even in march !What better than a visit to camber sands ! And here this nice cafe with fish and chips and more and good coffee - lovely seating beside the beach with nice open views…. Good seating !

Tourist trap - £8.60 for a "burger" and chips - the burger was a thin patty made of some sort of meat (containing pieces of gristle which nearly broke my tooth) placed between two pieces of a floury bap. No salad of any sort, no condiments (you have to ask). Chips were ok but suspect they were oven chips as they didn't look fresh cut. Avoid this place - try some of the other establishments around the area.

Overpriced fish and chips took advantage of a sunny day greedy rude Staff members small portion £10.50 Over cooked soggy fish with hard chips. Do not ever ever eat here one minute down the road is another fish and chip shop go there by all means!!!!!!!!!!

Had a wonderful cheeseburger with thick-cut fries, ice-cold Diet Pepsi and cold sparkling mineral water. The food took a bit of time to come but well worth it and service with a smile under new management. Many congratulations and I look forward to coming back very soon.

Fish pie is OK, chips a bit rubbish

Staff weren't particularly rude but neither were they welcoming or friendly. The food was meh, not bad but the portion sizes for the price were very very small.

Male staff greeted very friendly. Food absolutely rubbish. Fish and chips - fish salty, soggy and thin. The chips were soft and had no seasoning or taste. One of the worst fish and chips I have ever tasted in my entire life - for £10 it is a awful.

I'm giving you guys a 5 star cos your system during lockdown works very well and a plus the guy at the ice cream shop was very chirpy which was a welcome change regarding our situation. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there 🍦🍦🍦

Wouldn’t even recommend to my dog!

If possible I would post a minus score. Great location but truly appalling service, without a smile and with a could not care less attitude. Very poor food as well. The owners should be appalled as it could be great.

In February the wind howls the waves are rolling and the only ones on the beach who are enjoying themselves are the dogs. Marina cafe provides a haven to those who have braved the weather to blow the cobwebs away. Good value, good service, clean and tidy and they accept euros. Easy parking in the winter.

Shocking experience here. The most miserable staff. Ordered coffee, the lady walked past the proper coffee machine to a vending machine and gave me watery brown liquid. No discount for a keep cup. £2.65!! Same with a hot chocolate. We asked for hot water to top up a flask. This was greeted by a grimace and we were charged £1 for some hot water. It’s hard to believe in today’s world you can get a cafe experience like this !!

Overpriced oven chips and sausages and very very very very rude staff. The worst experience. I hope the management will take notice and make the establishment better for visitors.

Despite all of the negative reviews, I went there with a friend and 4 dogs and it was lovely! A little bit over priced but really nice!

Not a bad place to buy a water, everything else is complete disaster, including staff.

We stopped with over 90 cadets and adults to get an ice cream. Paula couldn't have been more helpful. She stayed open to allow us to get additional refreshments whole waiting for our minibuses to pick us up. Tha is again!

Chips (sweet), and soggy. Overpriced. Staff (lady) - very rude, picked up argument after mate swiped American Express. If its not accepted, make it clear on the pos terminal. In the absence of choice, people check the reviews after they've been through.

Only ordered drinks because boy oh boy, those prices! Nearly £10 for two teas and two coffees to takeaway. Not quite motorway services prices but still.

Food tasted ok but was overpriced and the staff quite abrupt. Aggressive signs prohibiting food from anywhere but the cafe and another stating you won't get anything unless you return the laminated card they give you. Seemed a bit over the top in its wording...

We tried to order some lunch and the lady was so annoyed and rude (for no reason) that we just left before she could print the receipt. I even told her she was rude and she just rolled her eyes. I'm sorry you're having a bad day, but it's not my fault and your attitude really put off the whole vibe. It was a quiet rainy April Sunday, what are you going to do when is high season and it gets crowded? Hopefully get a job where you don't have to talk to people. Thankfully the fish&chips guy from the other side of the parking was nice and served us even if he was starting to clear out. NOT GOING BACK IF SHE'S STILL WORKING THERE.

The most overpriced cafe ive ever been. Miserable staff and cheap nasty food. Although situated on the beach it still does not warrant 7.50 for a small set breakfast and an extra 1.80 for a small mug of tea! Complete rip off. The fact we was the only people in there speaks volumes. Wont be returning in a hurry.

Greedy, nasty, unhelpful, unkind, very very rude. No matter how kindly you approach them they don't seam to care, even during winter. It's an overpriced chippie on the beach of which the only virtue is to be just opposite a beautiful beach.

This was one of the worst food we ever had. We had one bite of the hot dog and needed to spit it out right away. The soup wasn't better. We just left right away....

If I could give a lesser rating, I would to these heartless, greedy people. I went with my family to camber sands and it was a busy sunny bank holiday weekend. I went into the cafe to ask if I could get some hot water for my crying baby to make his milk. Firstly I was ignored. And when I gestured to a staff member I was told abruptly to queue with everyone else. I tried to explain that I didn’t want to place an order but just wanted somebody to fill my baby’s bottle with hot water. This fell on deaf ears and eventually, I queued in with everyone else. When my turn came, I was served but asked to pay for the hot water!!! I tried to explain that it was less than 100ml to fill up an infant milk bottle but I couldn’t have been ignored more! Eventually I paid for it but walked away disgusted. This is absolutely the worst place in the country for customer service and if you ever want to visit camber sands with your family, I suggest you get a picnic basket from home and pack everything, including a thermas for hot water if you’re with a baby. Wouldn’t recommend this place even to my enemy.

Very rude staff for no reason...

A great view of course and it's nice at the outside tables. Nice chips too. However the staff aren't the friendliest and, a couple of times now, we've ordered several things but only received some of them. Then we were told they weren't on the order and only afterwards did we realise we'd paid for them too...

DEMEANING AND DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR BY THE STAFF. DISGUSTING PEOPLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Staff were horrible to customers, the attitude of the staff ruined the whole beach experience for my whole family. My aunty was feeding her baby and the staff told her she was not allowed to and she should buy the food from them even though they do not sell baby food.

The chicken burger had almost no chicken in it for £7, what a rip off!

DO NOT GO THERE!!! UNLESS YOU WANNA RISK Your HEALTH!! So we ordered 2 hot dogs and chips. We waited for order more than 20min. However it didn't show up. So I went to the counter to ask about it. Serving ladies was confused about ir. One said that somebody already took the order. I ask them where is my food then if I still have my ticket. After that they figure out that it was a mistake, and they just messed up order. However when I received order it was dreadful. Plus it's turn out that they can handle the till and cook food in same time without using gloves. Another thing they put ingredients which is without any labels of date. It could be really nice and cool place ,but hygiene there is dreadful and atitude to service really poor.

I wouldn’t recommend coming here, as the food tasted of plastic and the service was not very friendly. It’s a shame because this could be a lovely little cafe.

Overcooked chips and they put the milk in first for the tea, which to me is a cardinal sin. Staff were okay, one was curt and rude, the other few were nice and polite.

I have no idea what kind of Slush syrup those cheapskates use but it tasted like plastic! One drink had no sugar and the other was most likely dangerous to drink! Waste of money

Caught in the tide with a baby, needed to change her out of her clothes. The staff came over and told us we were stupid to change a babies wet, cold clothes in a cafe rather than the freezing public bathrooms and stood by us to make us feel uncomfortable. So much to make sure that we left. She shouted at my step-mum, telling her that my “mum needed to get some common sense”, then making her fish a sea nappy out of a nearby bin, and when we did go to leave and said we were sorry, she and her fellow team-member glared at us from behind the till. Shocking behaviour.

Doesn't even deserve a star... Poor poor poor service, the attitude of the staff is disgusting very very rude... A staff member chose to get in a full blown argument with me over getting a baby (1 years old) out of wet clothes, when trying to apologize and explain that if she just advised us of where changing facilities are instead of shouting in front of children, she seemed to get more angry, never ever ever have I ever experienced this in a cafe... If you are situated on a beach you should expect people going in with wet shoes and clothes not say we should have left shoes at the door, do not go near this place, needs to change staff or shut down!

Absolutely horrendous service. 2 out of the 3 staff were decent. The third one, a big tall lady with an abvious skin condition, had a disgusting attitude. We were a big family with lots of little kids, we came in and placed our orders for fish and chips. The children were very tired, hungry and thirsty, so as we waited for food we gave them some juice that we already had with us (not bought at the store). As well as some cut fruit to hydrate them and settle them as we waited for the main meal. This horrible woman made such a racket that the children were drinking juice not bought from the shop. apparently we can ONLY eat things bought from their store. She even refused us giving water belonging to us. Thought this was supposed to be a family friendly place. Never going there again and giving these clowns my money. As PAYING customers, with an order of around £70+, how dare she be so intolerable towards little children half of whom were not the age to be able to talk yet.

Food was average but service was really poor, we were not allowed to bring out any on our own snacks including fruits. My children have food allergies and we were told that we could not feed them anything other than from their shop even though we order almost £100 worth of food from the shop for our families!

Terrible customer service. The ONLY reason they must still be in business is because there are no other cafes on this very popular beach. They are rude, miserable and the food is poor for the price. Must be friends + family who get the nice service??

Nice cafe for a drink next to the sandy beach

Great staff, location and outside area. This is a convenient place to grab a light lunch as there is nothing else nearby. As a result, although the food is basic, it isn't particularly cheap.

Fantastic food and staff! Also has Stella on tap. £10 card minimum spend.
