Visited here on a Sunday afternoon. Seated quickly and handed the menus. Things went downhill from there. "Could we have the tuna salad?" "No" "Err the crab salad?" "No" "Any salad?" "No" "Fried Egg?" "I'll just check.....No" "Mushrooms?" "No" Finally settled on Cod & Chips and Calamari & Chips. The fish to be fair was OK but the chips were not. The calamari however was exceptional....ly bad, similar in appearance - and taste I would imagine - to an I'm a Celebrity eating challenge, unfortunately no stars on offer here. It was truly terrible, and expensive too, We have been here before on a few occasions and it has always been good but never again. Rye has raised its game in recent years but My Greek Kitchen Nightmare has unfortunately lowered theirs. It is affiliated with the Kettle O' Dear takeaway next door so I would avoid that as well unless you have a penchant for calamari akin to cremated animal parts.

We were sat down with a menu as soon as we arrived at this fish and chip cafe (it really isn’t Greek!) and we’re hopeful of a quick service but this was not meant to be. We had to call the waiter over to take our order, he then brought us the wrong drinks. Our meals of fish and chips took about 30 minutes to arrive and by then we were frozen as the restaurant wasn’t heated and it was a very cold New Year’s Day. The waiter carried our plates in such a bad way the food was brushing against his outdoor coat as he carried them. I would never go back here again as there was nothing redeeming about our visit.

This was the worst meal I have ever had. And I’m not kidding. Seemed like yesterday’s chips. And a burger that had been in the hot plate all day. Terrible. I paid the bill and then offered some constructive feedback. To the be shouted at by the proprietor. Certainly will vote with my feet and never return. If I could vote less than one I would.

Has this place changed owners? We have been here several times and looked forward to eating here on our visit to Rye. Waiter was fine although he and the manager were very scruffily dressed which does put me off if they cant be bothered to wear a clean shirt. Food was ok, nothing special so I doubt we will go there again.

Walked into this restaurant today and sat down at a table, was ages before anyone acknowledge us. Finally a waiter came over dumped menu, knife and folk on table and said won't be long, he then went and sat at a table on his mobile phone. Possible After about 10 mins my husband had to attract his attention as this stage I was prepared to walk out. He came over we ordered 2 teas Gammon egg chips mushrooms, and omelette and chips, he came back with 2 mugs if tea with teabags floating in them. Dinner finally arrived minus the egg then he shouted where's the egg to guy cooking, egg finally turned up looked like it was Mike Tyson's punch bag. The food was ok but if your looking for good service you won't get it here 😂

Had fish and chips for lunch here with friends As ed couldn't get a tablet at Marino's. Nice greek style decor and ambience but couldn't see anything Greek on the menu, so somewhat misleading. Staff not particularly helpful or smiley. Fish was ok, well cooked and reasonable size but not well filetted as found bones. Chips were soggy and oily. Coffee was nice, but menu over-priced for all items. Will not be going back.

Fish, chips and mushy peas should be fairly straightforward for a chippy on the coast.... Clearly Not! Fish was overcooked, batter was soft, as were the chips. Fortunately the peas were ok but the the portion was so small it doesn’t really warrant a mention. My girlfriend had Tuna Salad and it was appalling value for £11 and consisted of a plate of iceberg lettuce, one tomato, 6 olives and half a can of tuna. We visit Rye a lot through the summer months, we won’t be going back. Use the Cafe opposite, it’s far better!

My Greek Kitchen serving a menu full of fast food and NOTHING GREEK on the menu whatsoever! Apparently they had two Greek specials on the board but one had sold out (5pm) and the other was a stew. When we questioned the lack of GREEK food on the menu of The GREEK Kitchen, the owner was quite rude so we left. Would not recommend bothering but would recommend that they changed the name of the restaurant as it is highly misleading.

Fish and chips - ok, average. Chicken - do not even try, forget it's in the menu, don't eat even if they offer a free one!!! Wine - ok, from Cyprus This place looks like the restaurant but it is more a fast food bar, I got caught by the look and spacious premises. One off experience ticked and will never be back.

Never again. Been to Rye for a quick family trip and everyone was talking about having fish so been to this fish & chip place. Very rude server. Expensive dish for nothing. And the owner begins to fight when you mentioned the experience wasn't right. Don't know how they can still be open and do business with this kind of wrong attitude. The council must review indeed.

Got to the restaurant at 7.45 ( advertises being open until 10pm. Was told that the chef had gone and could not supply many of the dishes on the menu. Ended up with a really dry half a chicken & salad. Coffee machine had been turned off so none was available and the Bulmers pear cider tasted a bit odd. Will be avoiding in future.

The chippie at the front looked good and there was a big queue and reasonable prices. Inside was quite different...We both ordered fish and chips as we were really looking forward to this traditional dish - especially being so close to the sea!I asked for a large fish with chips and mushy peas. My wife asked if she could have a medium fish also with chips and peas. When the dishes arrived both fishes were small and nothing like what we saw in the chippie at the front. OK I thought, if it's good it won't matter: it was awful. The fish was not fresh and was chewy, in the first bite I had a bone. The batter was overcooked and flavourless. It honestly couldn't have been worse. To top it off, there were no peas.I called over the waitress and showed her. She apologised and said it must have been "a bad one". She took it away and brought over a different fish. She asked if we still wanted the peas as they forgot them, I said not to bother - another waitress immediately brings the peas over. The new fish was the same so we just ate the peas. I threw in the towel and asked for the bill. Both dishes were marked up as Fish & Chips at £9 each. We paid to avoid confrontation and went to get sandwiches. Avoid this place at all costs.

We went to this restaurant for fish & chips. The place was particularly empty. To start we ordered our drinks & three of us had cappuccinos. When they arrived all of them were diffrent! One was a latte another looked like dishwater and the other one was ok. We all ordered large cod & chips. When our meals arrived we was surprised that our fish was rather small. I asked the waitress why this was so and she said it was done on weight which didn't really answer my question. I noticed that another table was complaining about the small size of their cod. The chips we're nice but the batter on the cod was dense and soggy! We also ordered beans, curry sauce and halloumi. The curry sauce and beans we're stone cold. The halloumi was rancid and the stench resembled rotting flesh! I called the owner over and asked what it had been cooked in. He stated that it had been cooked in the best olive oil.I don't know how old this cheese was but I can quite clearly say it has put me off of ever eating it again as it was inedible and putrid. All in all it was a very bad experience and we will never set foot in that place again.

From some of the reviews you'd think this was a bad bet - it isn't! The restaurant is spacious and clean - the food simple but good. It was good value, too.We went with vegetarians who were were well served with suitable tasty things and salads from the Greek menu. The fish, with chips, was superb. There were some downsides - if you don't know or like Greek coffee, don't try it (full of cardomom?). There were no Greek desserts at all that day (!) but we were well full despite. The waitress was pleasant and efficient but is in awe of or frightened of the boss who wandered about but barely interacted with us. It took three goes to the waitress get the non-Greek naff music (which they switched on upon our arrival, presumably for our benefit - hahah), down to a level where we could think and converse. On go three she asked if I wanted to speak to the boss about it, but I said "No, You are our host". We left well satisfied and left her a good tip, which she deserved. I hope she got it, as someone else took it when returning our card (I told her - what happened next??) A good place for a family lunchtime, but take control. They are keen for feedback, and have little forms you can fill in. We didn't - this is it! Maybe the message to the boss is - back off, let them fly... Improvement is possible. The staff want to do it. All the ingredients (well most) for a good experience are there. Thanks!

We booked a meze for the evening before our daughter's wedding for 17 of us. We were warmly welcomed by George, the wonderful owner and the rest of his team. Two tables were laid for our party but when I asked if we could all sit on one table - that was not a problem. Nor was it a problem when two of our party wanted fish & chips rather than the meze. The food was gorgeous - we really felt we were in Greece rather than Rye, on a dark and cold November evening. George had prepared a wonderful selection of dishes which were all very tasty. The meal was rounded off with a choice of delicious homemade cake and a drink on the house to celebrate our evening. Let me start with a confession: we were very late. We arrived with the closed sign showing and were 1 hour late, but we entered sheepishly and the owner told us to come in. From the get-go it was clear that some of the staff were ready to go home and now needed to stay later, they were not happy about this. 5 minutes later a few bowls of greek dips arrived (a la supermarket). These were not ordered but we assumed they were complimentary (wrong) we ordered our mains and awaited. The food arrived one plate at a time with some people finishing before others had received their meal, not the end of the world but not great either. We finished and asked for the bill. We then noticed that all 17 of us had been charged £6.50 for starters!! When we complained that we had not been served £100 worth of hummus and bread we were yelled at and told that if we hadn't wanted it we shouldn't have eaten it. One of our party then gave back an untouched dip and was told he was being rude.Shocking treatment aside the food was bland and too expensive, the owner claims that these weren't London prices, £15 for a main seems to disagree with that. There are a couple of places around Rye with Michelin Recommendations, try there first.

When the bill came we were charged £6.50 per head for the pitta bread and dips which had been brought to us.It took 25 minutes between the first person being served their main course and the last person, admittedly we were a group of 18 but there was no-one else in the restaurant and it was Saturday night. When the last person asked if their Moussaka was on the way (by which point most of the people around him had finished eating), the waitress was extremely short with him.Certainly wouldn't go back here again, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Visited in Sept with my partner (who had never had Greek before) for dinner.Have passed this restaurant many times and discarded it as some cheesy Greek diner plonked beside fish & chip shop. (The neon modern sign does it no favours - may want to rethink the branding of this place) After seeing Tripadvisor reviews and wanting more than usual cuisine in Rye, we decided to take plunge. The Greek bit is at the furthest bit at back and has Greek decor so you don't feel like its a chip shop diner. It was a Sunday evening so wasn't too surprised it was very quiet. There was only one other group in there which meant it was a little quiet but then we got to sit on our own and the Greek music gave it a cheery feel. Another group came later. Not their fault there wasn't more diners I suppose and it didn't affect atmosphere. Food great tasty food- had olive bread and dips to start then Kleftico and meatballs both with Bourgouri (cous cous type food) and Cyprus beer and wine. All very nice and we struggled to finish. My partner was impressed and I was happy it tasted liek Greek Id had before.Prices were reasonable and service was good. Even got a 'goodbye' from the chefs on way out. Would visit again and recommend. Don't be put off the sign and the fact it shares seating with chip shop.

The large bright open restaurant is shared by in house diners of the fish and chip shop as you walk in and then diners for the the greek restaurant are based at the rear(you can sit where you wish though)The greek section really makes you feel as if you are eating out on holiday with checkered tabled clothed tables and the walls are bedecked with paintings of Mediterranean scenes.there is a lovely window in the ceiling so you can see the evening sky darken. The atmosphere is sometimes noisy but the noise is from families enjoying an evening out-kind of continental feel as families tend to dine together more than we brits. There were couples too and everyone seemed to enjoy the atmospere. There were plenty of polite staff who seemed to attend to everyone at just the right time during their meals. The menu was all homemade and simple with all greek/cypriot favorites ie kleftico, stifado etc plus some lesser known dishes.Drinks were good with traditional beers and retsina and of course ouzo. And not to forget some lovely traditional deserts.George(the owner) and his highly prized chef produce the food with fantastic enthusiasm and pride.Cost of the meal was reasonable and George really tried to say good bye to everyone once they got up to go.We heard everyone who left compliment the owner on their experience. Just one thing i would suggest.Candles please on the tables .We couples do like a candle. So if on a cold rainy day/eve in November when you yearn to be back on your Mediterranean holiday,go to My Greek Kitchen.

We have used the Fish and Chip take away, which is part of the restaurant, on previous visits to Rye and always found the food good quality.Today we decided to use the restaurant for lunch, the Greek menu looked very good but we decided to have the Fish and Chips, The staff were polite and helpful, the food was well cooked and good value for money, Will definitely use again when in Rye and recommend to others.

Just in passing on a day coach trip my wife and I found this gem. Whether you want fish or chips or Greek fare you will not be disappointed. I had a very tasty and filling moussaka with riceaccompanied by a lovely Aphrodite Cyprus wine -fruity and easy on palate-one glass at £3 good value. This was average cost food -with wife's tasty taramousalata came to all just under £20.I saw fish and chips on other customers plates and looked very crispy and appetising.Do not miss this on corner by waterfront- oh and service was very efficient though not desperately busy

Delicious Greek food, all made fresh on the premises. Very good, quick service and beautifully clean restaurant. My favourite Greek food is Moussaka and it was delicious. The Baklava is to die for and the homemade olive bread with Taramasalata was wonderful. I can;t recommend this restaurant too highly. George, the owner was great company and the staff very friendly and helpful.

We were delighted to find this restaurant while staying in Rye. The owner was friendly, the service was great and the food was absolutely excellent. I have never had such wonderful stifado - even in Cyprus! The meat was so tender and delicious. The homemade olive bread was extremely tasty. We had the meze and we can't recommend it highly enough. The fact that our favourite Othello Cypriot wine is stocked here was a bonus too. If we come back to this part of the world we will definitely be making My Greek Kitchen our first night out.

I have just had lunch here and I found the welcome very warm. The restaurant is bright and clean with a nice view of the kitchen area. A large salad bar is available. The bread is baked on site whilst all the food is freshly prepared. Whilst this is a Greek restaurant with Cypriot owners, they also offer excellent fish and chips. I went for the Meze which was most generous and oh, so tasty. The stifado had a really bright taste to it, made me think of the warm Greek countryside and it was tender, really tender.Whilst I was there a coach arrived with probably 50 people on board. I enquired and found they often cater for large numbers. Despite this sudden influx of patrons the service did not suffer as staff seemed to appear as if by magic.Whilst this was my first visit it will definitely not be my last.

We went there with friends on Friday night, since we really enjoy Greek/Cyprus cousins we looked forward to traditional food. Every single one from our group of friends weren't disappointed with food or in fact service. The restaurant is twin with fish restaurant and that's the only downside perhaps a partition wall could improve the ambience. The food was plentiful and very tasty, wine (Greek) was to die for! Complimentary cake after the meal (freshly made in the restaurant) was delicious homemade bread was finger licking goooood! Starter (complimentary) was enough to fill us up (5 of us at the table), and the portions were-well huge! Food wasn't missing anything and we left with not only full bellies but also massive smile and good mood! Keep up good work guys, for me (harsh critic), the place and food is a winner!

We decided to try My Greek Kitchen as we love Greek food and have often struggled to find decent places for lunch when we visit Rye. This is a large, very bright room and as another reviewer has written it shares the space with the fish and chip restaurant. The Greek partis at the back and has checked tablecloths and Greek inspired paintings on the wall with a very elaborately decorated bar to the side. The menu is not overly long and has all the dishes you would expect to see, on the day we visited there were no specials on (it was lunchtime) but there were plenty of things to tempt us with. We started with some olives, taramasalata and home made olive bread and a complimentary portion of tzatziki. To follow my husband had a chicken souflaki and rice and I had the cypriot meatballs which were delicious and both dishes came with a greek style salad. The prices are good value, the portions are generous, the food is well cooked and very tasty. The wine list is quite limited - either a Retsina or a Cypriot Red or White - we chose the Cypriot White and it was good. We finished off with a greek coffee - this was outstanding and just as good as we enjoy in Greece and shared a portion of very decent baklava. I agree with the other reviewer who wrote that the room would benefit from some sort of partition to separate the Greek part from the Fish and Chip restaurant but otherwise we could not fault it.

I visited My Greek Kitchen with a friend in the summer and my goodness, the food was good If you like chips with moussaka (reminiscent of Greek holidays) this is definitely the place to go. The home made dips and olive bread are lovely to start with and I shall certainly go back.

Myself, my friend and granddaughter visited My Greek Kitchen for my birthday. The welcoming we received from the staff was extremely friendly and the decor set the scene for a wonderful evening. The amazing chef Andonis cooked the authentic dishes to perfection and we were presented with generous portions of mouth watering food. After such great success with the adjoining fish and chip shop, delightful owners George and Illyana have taken their business one step further to provide us all with a much needed Greek restaurant in the heart of Rye, East Sussex. A must to visit!!!

Properly cooked Greek food, with the right herbs and spices and a chef that genuinely knows what he is doing. Very welcoming, generous portions so make sure you have a big appetite. Clean and beautifully decorated. A big bonus is that it shares the restaurant with the famous fish and chip shop next door so if any of your family prefer to eat fish and chips you can order both at the same time and eat them at the same table!

8 of us went here for a family meal to celebrate a birthday and had a tasty and enjoyable meal. The food, service and value couldn't be faulted but there is no avoiding the fact that this is a fish and chip restaurant too. The tables at the front of the restaurant are for fish and chip shop customers (the chip shop itself is accessed through a separate door to that for the restaurant) and the tables at the rear, with the table cloths, are for the Greek restaurant which takes the edge off the ambience unfortunately. A simple screen / partition between the two would go a long way to rectify this as the Greek restaurant area is already distinctly decorated with paintings of Greek fishing villages etc, has a large bar and uniformed staff. The food was very good and very traditional, everything except the olives being made on site we were proudly informed. Portions were very generous and the waitress helpfully pointed out we would only need 4 mezes to feed 5 of us. Value was excellent. We will come back, but not for a special occassion.

Three of us visited this restaurant on a very cold evening in late November. The restaurant is open plan, but properly heated, with kitchen style tables and wooden chairs. The decor is typically greek with seascapes and paintings of villages on the walls, and porcelain floor tiles. We were greeted in very friendly fashion by the proprietor and his chef and were provided with complimentary dips and olive bread so we needed to order only one more starter. All the food was authentic, freshly cooked and very tasty. Bearing in mind there is no other greek restaurant within many miles of Rye I would thoroughly recommend this establishment for its friendly staff and authentic cuisine at a reasonable price.

My Greek kitchen is a newly opened restaurant in Rye East Sussex, we went with friends and the atmosphere was very buzzy the restaurant was spotless, but the food really was the best, I understand that the owner has brought a chef over from Cyprus who has worked in many parts of the world, there is no other Greek restaurant near it or like it, everything was home made and authentic, they even make there own olive bread on the premises, if you enjoy quality Greek food at an excellent price and we had a compliamentry drink as well try this venue.

Is it really so difficult to buy veggie friendly chips in this country? Fry the chips separately from the meat and fish. You might get more customers coming to the shop. Just a thought.
