Great local bistro with professional, discrete service and good quality food

The food is always excellent, services impeccable and there’s a great range of cocktails. It’s a little bit on the quiet side, not necessarily a bad thing but maybe it would be nicer with a little more buzz.

We had a really excellent meal here this week. We all had fish this time and it was delicious! Perfectly seasoned and cooked on the point.

The food was absolutely delicious, served in a beautiful and warm space!

American here. Went to Margaux for my birthday and it was, no exaggeration, the best meal of my life. The gnocchi and duck breast were both the best items I have ever had the pleasure of having.

Lovely, relaxed French restaurant. Larger than it looks as there is a downstairs too. Quality food and a good selection of wines including non French ones.

Wonderful seasonal menu, in a lovely atmosphere. I was blown away by the foie gras, which, coming from a French person, speaks volumes. Starters are particularly good, but don't eclipse the qualities of the mains and deserts. The wine list is well thought out, and delicious to try in this cosy atmosphere. I recommend smoking at one of the outside terraces for a quasi Les Deux Magots touch.

Every dish was outstanding. I had the lavender and honey duck with a side of carrots. It was all perfect. One of the top two duck dishes I’ve ever had. Overall a memorable experience.

Lovely place, cosy and stylish at the same time. From the description of the dishes you can feel the attention to details and the creativity in combining the flavours, in fact they did not disappoint us. Very kind service. I would definitely recommend it!

We had a reservation and when we walked in they said sorry the dinning room is full and proceeded to take us downstairs where there were 4 tables. All empty and the kitchen and the restrooms (obviously empty because no one would dine in that atmosphere). We went back upstairs and asked to wait at the bar until a table frees up. To our shock multiple people guests arrived and were seated. Upon asking the hostess we were told it doesn’t look likely that we would get a table. This restaurant was recommended to us by American Express concierge services. Unfortunately the service and attitude is beyond acceptable. Very bad experience.

We had a confirmation for dinner. When we arrived there were no tables available. We were offered a table downstairs (4 tables there next to the kitchen and bathroom and they were empty). We asked to sit at the bar to wait for our table. To our shock other customers walked in and were given tables. When we enquires as to when our table would be ready we were told it was highly unlikely to get a table. Keep in mind this is with a confirmed reservation. Our night was ruined and we had to frantically search for an alternative restaurant. Our night finally ended without dinner. Very disappointed.

This is a little treasure. Really laid back but excellent food. My only piece of constructive feedback is I kept having to wait quite a long time to order an extra glass of wine. I think all restaurants need to keep an eye on customers’ glasses and when empty assume at least some of the customers might want another glass. Otherwise a terrific meal

Wonderful surprise: absolutely delicious!!! We had the king prawns and the avocado tartine: both amazing. The king prawns were so good we want the recipe for the green sauce. The staff are lovely. It was a truly enjoyable lunch.

Everything we ordered was delicious. Starting with the tuna appetizer, the duck was cooked perfectly, and my husband swordfish was delicious too, so we made a reservation to come back.

Best meal we’ve had this year, as of time of writing. I had the bourgignon and my partner had guinea fowl. In both cases, perfectly cooked with amazing sauces and sides. Dessert was similarly delightful. Nice ambience. Great wine list. Highly recommended.

Margaux has the feel of a bar or saloon, with dim warm light. The menus use a slightly hard-to-read font, and we saw multiple people using phone flashlights to read them. We had the black truffle gnocchi, black ink tortelloni, foie gras with figs, and cheesecake. The foie gras was served with normal white bread, which was rather disappointing - I'd hoped for sourdough or baguette chips. The tortelloni was okay, but I will happily say that the giant cheese-filled gnocchi was the best I'd ever had. The cheesecake was whipped very well, so it was light and fluffy, and very tasty. For us, the service was good. I managed to get a tea with ice even though it wasn't on the menu, and the food came out quickly. We had a water jug, so never had to wait for water. We did find the table a tad small for two, so perhaps keep that in mind. One thing that I feel would be remiss not to point out, though - we noticed that a woman with a cane was initially offered a downstairs table (mind that there is no elevator, and the stairs are rather steep), and only after some argument was the woman offered a ground floor seat. This did seem a bit odd to us, as there were empty tables on the ground floor when the woman showed up. The restaurant is also not wheelchair accessible - the restrooms are downstairs and, as noted, can only be accessed via stairs. In all, I think it was okay for us pair of able-bodied folk, but for anyone with less mobility, perhaps not.

Nice place with a casual dining ambiance. Our main courses were well executed plates (beef bourguignon and duck breast) and the waiter recommended a nice bottle of Grenache from Spain that paired well.

I discovered this gem in Kensington quite by accident, and have not enjoyed such a happy accident in a long time. Relaxed and comfortable ambience, professional staff who understand how to be gently attentive to your table’s needs, and remarkable food. I had the soup, a cold golden tomato preparation that I could have sworn was made from oranges and strawberries. An asparagus salad, playfully built up like a fort with sides of red endive and romaine, the asparagus hiding inside under a cooked ceiling of halved quail eggs. Five-star tarte tatin for afters, and an ample wine list. This is the kind of restaurant that makes you want to come back with a dozen friends so you can share and taste every single dish on the menu.

A common stop on the circuit, always good - the crab a real treat

It’s a French restaurant. Food was more Italian. Main course of halibut was v good but food was more creative some time back.

Excellent food we had delicious cocktails with our 3 starters to share . Beautiful presentation, finest quality ingredients and delicious!.Main courses of salmon, halibut and truffle gnocchi were everything we expected and more. Desserts were just as good.The only criticism was the waiter didn't know how to smile or chat. Would definitely come again such a lovely evening. Perhaps the waiter will be more cheerful next time!

The food is quite tasty and the atmosphere is nice enough, though the staff can be quite hands off and gave us a cold service, they didn’t seem so happy or talkative.

Nice food, but I felt the staff were a little cold... not the most welcoming and friendly place. Didn't even say good bye and have a nice day when we left.

Food was pleasant enough but required some seasoning. Our server was jovial and attentive. Could be outstanding with a few tweaks...having lamb on the menu being one of them.

The food, in my case Terrine de Foie Gras and Mousse de Chocolat was superb and outstandingly tasty. Unfortunately they wanted to charge me two extra glasses of wine. They corrected it but without an apolgy.

Lovely restaurant with beautiful interview, great service and food to die for. Had the octopus salad and tortollini to start. Very fresh and flavourful. We had the salmon and steak for mains with some lovely wine to pair. We booked on first table so our food was half price!

Beautiful local South Kensington local french bistro/restaurant located 5 minutes from our hotel. Our waitress was from south america and was more than helpful. The food was amazing. We had a prawn starter, fillet of beef and Beef Bourguignon for mains were excellent. the desserts were outstanding, a chessecake with passionfruit and the chocolate mouse with the port was to die for. Lovely meal all round. We had a red wine to wash it all down. Only little niggle is the wines are rather expensive. Our bill came to 175.00 pounds in total. In fairness, this is London, the quality of the food and presentation was very good. Would recommend for the food.

Great ambiance, great service and amazing fish! Loved it!

Lovely early evening dinner, second time around. The asparagus salad was a particular standout. The wild boar ragu pappardelle was perfectly cooked and the beef bourgignon was as good as ever. I’m not convinced about the tarte tatin, it’s just not good enough serving stewed apple on a partially caramelised pastry base. This is not how it should be presented. But I would still return

The definition of neighbourhood classic and our go to if in town. Food great and unpretentious.

Lovely quiet Monday night dinner at Margaux. The place has a NYC vibe to the decor and the food was light and tasty. Felt satisfied with the value paid at the end. Service was a bit stand-offish rather than pro-active, and had to hail the waiter over to get served and top up drinks. Overall, however, this did not take too much away from the experience and my dinner guest and I agreed we would be back - great neighbourhood find.

Always a pleasure to dine at Margeau when I'm in London. The food is delicious and the services always outstanding.

Very happy with our meal here. High quality variations on French classics. Not cheap, but for an excellent meal in an expensive part of town it's good value.

The food was for the most part absolutely gorgeous, but the service was only just above average. My only complaint with the food was my dessert and wine pairing, which was the tarte Tatin and the tokaji aszu puttonyos 6. While both amazing separately, the pairing of an incredibly sweet wine with a sweet dessert seems odd. It felt like a total lack of balance, and moreso just an excuse to sell the wine where it fit nowhere else on the menu. Otherwise, a great meal in a cosy yet industrial feeling restaurant.

A truly lovely restaurant indeed. I had strong cravings for beef Bourguignon as a man tends to have and this didn't disappoint. The good lady wife took the fish and was extremely happy. I would come back and eat totally different things because it was all great.

The food my wife and I ate here was simply superb. My wife booked us in, and I’m normally not such a fan of French cuisine - I find it normally too rich. This was just perfect. We started with salads of octopus and asparagus. They were both were simple but with surprising ingredients that you could taste separately and together. The octopus came with butter beans that were really melting and the asparagus came with a Parmesan crisp so each dish was a sensation of excellent ingredients and lovely textures. The mains we had were tortellini of crab, and swordfish. The swordfish was probably the best I have ever had (better even than the lovely memories of eating it down by the sea in Amalfi) - so tender and pink - and it came with a kind of Thai style salad with a perfect kick of chilli and freshness to complement the fish. Wonderful! The pasta my wife had was just al dente and the sauce was the perfect balance of salty and creamy without being too much of either. We will definitely be back soon! Thank you so much!

A lovely meal and friendly service. All the dishes were great but special mention for the swordfish which was melt in the mouth delicious.

Wasn’t a fan of French food, until I came to Margaux. The cherry on top was the sweet lady who seems to manage the place. High five!

After a disappointing experience at their sister restaurant Bandol, Margaux was a breath of fresh air. The quality of the dishes was superb, simple items but executed fantastically. Food arrived fresh and hot, and every component was delicious. My only gripe was that our water wasn’t refilled as frequently as I would’ve liked… but for the food, completely forgivable!

Impersonal service - unwelcome and pretty unfriendly when we arrived. Food was above average / starter v nice- pasta not that tasty. Duck was v good. The actual restaurant was gorgeous. Had the service been friendlier I would have given 4/5

An excellent meal but charging £4.5 for tap water is crazy. It’s a great restaurant with great food but as the joke goes” can great food save bad service ( and yet the service was excellent too) I cannot get around that cost

A great meal we had the gnocchi filled with ricotta and black truffles and the crab tortolloni in lobster cream. For entrees the seared sea bass with miso broth, and seared duck with jus and red cabbage. Overall a great meal, but charging for free water, sorry….

This restaurant has it all. Great ambience, classy, sophisticated and great food. Booked for a pre show meal. The food is prepared beautifully and cooked very well and is flavoursome. Service was attentive and not over fussy. I will definitely return. What a find. Tres bon!

The staff we're very accommodating from booking the dinner for 7 people to when we arrived and allocating us our seat. It was such a lovely environment for dinner and the waitress was extremely friendly and warm. The bartender served us some delicious drinks. We got there just after 6pm and it didn't get louder as more people came so I would recommend a late lunch for the serene calm lunch to dinner feel. Definitely value for money. I think the only thing that may have tainted the experience marginally was the waiter. When it came to paying, he said he didn't have time to calculate or split the bill and we didn't ask him to do this. We were going to work things out for ourselves. It just presented a bit of awkwardness to a otherwise delightful experience. We weren't rushed to leave either. The food is affordable, though was a little warm rather than piping hot when served, but we were talking so much and laughing it was a minor thing. I may try the place again, if only for the ambience, food, waitress and bartender. My friends and I agreed it was a lovely evening x

Margaux is the most underrated restaurant in London. The best culinary experience by far in ALL London, and I’ve been to many of the so called mainstream best restaurants in London. I don’t know the Chef, but everything he promisses on the menu he delivers on the plate! BRAVO!! And keep up the good job! A true hiden gem!

A very, very good restaurant. Unpretentious, uncluttered, civilized surroundings, soft, low key, efficient (our orders came swiftly and quietly) and the food was simply marvelous and sufficient. I recommend the grilled octopus, the Beef Bourguignon and the exquisite Breast of Duck.

Food was delicious! Perfect for a date night. Ambience was perfect and the service was excellent. Food arrive quickly and was cooked to perfection! I would recommend the ragu and octopus for starters and duck breast for main! Will certainly go back there :)

Delicious neighbourhood gem that never fails to impress. The Beef Bourignon is definitely the best dish of all time. Their wine selection is vast and they are super professional with their wine recommendations. Their cocktails are delicious as well if wine is not really your cup of tea.

Everything was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant really is lovely. We had the chocolate bomb as dessert and it wasn’t as good as the mains, but still very nice.

The scallop is delightful, offering a fantastic taste and harmonious flavors. Its pairing with broccoli is a delightful combination. The dessert is equally enjoyable, striking a perfect balance of sweetness, and the orange peel adds a special touch that I particularly like.
