Loved our night at Julie’s a couple of weeks ago. The food was deeeelicious with wonderful flavours and great wine pairings, and the team was so welcoming with friendly, attentive service. The charming ambience made the experience even more special. Highly recommend. Thanks so much to everyone in the team - we’ll definitely be back.

Impressive and more than just it’s pretty interior. The food is delicious and skillfully prepared, with a lot of attention to detail. In terms of vibe, it is amazing. With lovely outdoor seating with heaters for winter dining. Service is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The food was wonderful but one staff member (I think the sommelier) was quite rude because I was standing at the bar ordering some shots to celebrate our birthday especially at the start of the night. He was visibly irritated by my presence. We wrote in the booking that it was our birthdays (double birthday celebration) and there wasn’t even a mention of it at all. Instead we were rushed off our table towards the end and asked to take a table outside (in storm Darragh). Honestly the experience before this one for my friend was worlds apart and amazing and the reason why we returned as a group especially to celebrate our birthdays. Would not return or personally recommend. Three stars is generous considering the price (the star was held up by the lobster soufflé).

The venue is lovely. Sadly the food and drinks were disappointing. For example, I ordered an Old Fashioned twice: the first one was pure whiskey and the second was overwhelmed with angostura and brown sugar. Both were very unpleasant. By contrast, the Chablis wine we had was very nice. As to the mains, I had a nice endive salad starter however the tortellini crab that I had as my main was doused in what felt like a soup of butter. I very much want to love Julie’s because it’s such a lovely venue. Unfortunately they simply have let themselves down with the cuisine and drinks.

Fab night, and really good food. We had a booth for a birthday downstairs which felt really special. The waitress serving us was lovely, and organised a last minute mousse and sparkler for the birthday boy. There was a bit of a mix up with our sides, and they never arrived - which was a shame! But they took off the bill and kindly gave us some wine. To be honest we were enjoying everything else so certainly didnt ruin the evening! Thanks Julie's we will be back

What a gem. Finally visited Julie’s after meaning to for too long. I enjoyed the delicious martinis (the Sauternes martini was so good I had one too many) a delicious bottle of wine, recommended by the sommelier, stunning food and a very warm and friendly team. The interiors are beautiful, but next time I will pop for brunch and sit outside under the heaters with dog (who, incidentally also received a warm welcome inside, with water provided without having to ask - but check ahead as it’s possible larger dogs might not work so well in the space). I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, it’s one of those special places that you feel instantly comfortable and “at home” and will undoubtedly want revisit again and again.

I don’t usually leave restaurant reviews, but after my experience at Julie’s, I feel like I have to. Honestly, it was a ridiculously overpriced disaster. I was excited to visit after hearing about its recent reopening, but I left totally disappointed. Almost every dish we ordered tasted like burnt oil. The duck liver schnitzel was basically just a tasteless lump of fat in more fat, the onglet à l’échalote was like chewing on rubber, and poor plaice meunière was drowning in more burnt oil. After that, we didn’t even dare try dessert. The waiters were friendly but pretty clumsy, spilling things on our table. Looking back, I can't believe I didn’t ask to have the “discretionary” service charge taken off the bill. The decor is nice, and the wine was alright, but honestly, the food quality was worse than what you'd get at your local greasy spoon. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place.

Love this new version. The staff are incredible and the food is great. Anyone who says it’s pricey hasn’t got a clue - it’s very reasonable. The decor is fantastic - much nicer than the darker drab past version. It’s very French bistro. We had a birthday party here and was fabulous. Actually ate here 3 times this week!! Nuff said. Eat your heart out. Can’t wait to go back. Try the mushroom omelette and the amazing tortelloni (if it’s on the menu!).

Lovely neighborhood spot, okay food, okay service…time for dessert and tea — all good right? Just then, we get approached by the hostess and are asked to move so they could use our table to change a four person setting to a six person table?! And to make matters more awkward, two individuals are standing and waiting there to be seated. It was like “how are you going to say no.” Ruined the evening and we were offered no apology nor compensation in return for the inconvenience. We’ve travelled all over the world, eaten in all kinds of quality restaurants and have never had this happen. Rude and uncouth.

Maleducado y tosco.

Let me start with the good stuff . The decor is very nice and the outside area is really lovely. The food was ok to nice , wine was nice . Now about the problems. We had to wait for our table , more than we should and our order was delayed too . Also the food didn't come in the order we asked for.The sommelier was talking very loudly and abruptly to a poor waitress who was running around in a panic. It was also very very loud , which made us feel soon like we wanted to get out of there . I believe most of the problems described would be solved if the restaurant didn't try to serve too many customers . It is better to have a bit smaller clientele which will return , rather than having a lot of unpleased guests . Maybe we will give it another go , after some time .

As we entered the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the beautiful decor—seriously, I half-expected to see a fashion show break out! One of the managers greeted us warmly and swiftly whisked us to our table, making us feel like VIPs right away. The banquette was chic and comfortable, perfect for lounging and pretending we were in a trendy magazine. However, while the table had a lovely colour, I couldn’t help but feel it might have been designed for hobbits; its size and proximity to other patrons were a bit cozy, shall we say? It was clear that the restaurant's design was executed with professionalism, although a few mirrors could use a little more attention for that shine. The service was prompt, attentive, and yet not invasive. We appreciated the little touches, such as complimentary water, bread, and other nibbles, which made us feel like royalty, minus the crown and the responsibilities. For starters, we ordered the duck liver schnitzel topped with an egg and chives, resting on confit like a celebrity on a red carpet. It was an incredible bundle of flavour, texture, and juices. The sommelier was very helpful in providing recommendations and accurately gauging what I was looking for. His wine pairing was spot on and complemented my steak beautifully. For the main course, I went for the sirloin with peppercorn sauce, which was cooked to perfection with quality ingredients and seasoning that could make even a salt shaker jealous. The peppercorn sauce had a delightful kick that we absolutely loved. Our waiter, Marc D., expertly deboned the sole, leaving no bones behind yet keeping it presentable—he deserved a round of applause for that one! The Ratte potatoes were generously buttered—some might say a bit too much, but I found it just right. They were nearly perfectly cooked, although I would have appreciated an extra minute. The carrots were well-cooked, and the sole was so tender it practically crumbled under the weight of our adoration. The strong citrus flavours complemented the dish perfectly, creating a flavour profile that could charm even the pickiest of palates. For dessert, we tried the crème brûlée, which sparked some debate about its colour—it could have used a little more love. The texture could have been creamier; it was a bit too solid for my liking, though the flavour was on point. Even for someone who typically doesn’t enjoy chocolate mousse, I found the Roche perfectly light in both texture and flavour, with just the right amount of dark chocolate—not so much that I felt like I was biting into a cocoa bean! The lovely touch of salt and drizzle on top was a nice addition. The shape of the Roche was also perfect, and the pistachio cuboid paired beautifully with the mousse, balancing the dryness and stickiness of the pistachio—it was like a match made in dessert heaven! Finally, we had the pear and almond tart. Unfortunately, it seemed to have suffered from a bit of a mid-life crisis in terms of presentation, with the tart’s point appearing to have collapsed. The cut was angled, which was a detail that did not go unnoticed. However, the flavour of the pear was delicious. The base was a bit hard, and while the almond filling was good, it was somewhat dry. I felt that incorporating roasted and blitzed almonds into the crème fraîche (instead of justin crème fraîche) could have enhanced the tart significantly, adding a complementary almond flavour without altering the texture—think of it as a makeover for the tart! Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, complete with a few minor critiques. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for its ambiance, service, and innovative dishes. Just remember to bring your stretchy pants—you’ll need them!

So excited about celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at the restaurant (under new ownership) where we had our first date and got engaged. Disappointed, despite the stern notices about not being late, to not get a table for 25/30 minutes and then upstairs when we had specifically asked for downstairs. Food OK, if a bit pricey, and service excellent and a nice atmosphere, but it just felt like the place was overbooked in order to cram as many punters in as possible. The team tried to make it up with complimentary drinks etc, but our special place was somewhat tarnished and I can't see us coming back.

Oh dear. Encouraged by a couple of favourable newspaper reviews we went for a midweek evening dinner. First, the waitress behind the bar while we waited for our table was great (although brought still water when we asked for sparkling, but these things happen). From then on… Service once seated was slow, inattentive and uninterested. White wine came when we ordered red wine - funny, in isolation. Then having ordered snacks, starters, mains and sides: one starter arrived on its own with some bread before anything else, then a couple of snacks, then the other starter. This isn’t a small plate restaurant, it’s a restaurant where the kitchen and front of house can’t bring food in the right order or at the same time. Our mains arrived without their side dishes and after a couple of minutes of waiting we flagged a waiter down (there are a lot of them but they’re not doing much serving) who then looked utterly panicked about the missing food. Some salad arrived a few minutes later, a few minutes later some frites, a few minutes after that some green beans. At this point we’d already eaten most of our mains. I say most, but the kitchen wasn’t paying care and attention to seasoning - I like salt on my food, but this was way way way overboard. I left half of my main uneaten, and the sides weren’t finished either. Like eating a salt brick. At no point did anyone check on the meal, apologise for the late arrival of 60% of it or ask at the end how it was. We skipped dessert, paid an left. In hindsight it’ll make for a funny story about a terrible restaurant with pretensions - but what makes me mad is that some people will save up to go for a birthday, or anniversary or something special because of the press reviews by identifiable critics. Don’t do it. The couple next to us were celebrating a birthday; both looked broken by the end and nobody seemed to care. If you live next to it then fine, why not, I imagine it’s more fun than microwaving a ready meal and on that basis alone the culinarily challenged of Holland Park will keep it in business. But if you enjoy eating or appreciate good service or live more than a 5 minute walk away then why bother?

Food was average at best for such a hyped up French Bistro. Wine and wine connoisseur was excellent. Our waitress was just awful and extremely rude. She was just rushing the service. Clearing table and dishes when we said we were still eating. One of the desserts was “cheese selection” and upon asking what selection of cheeses there were I was told, “something from Shropshire or some other shire” then she said Chef says “selection”. Finally upon asking again I was told exactly what cheeses I was about to get for my £20. Overall average food, terrible service. We went for Sunday Lunch and was disappointed to find a "brunch menu" only available and not a full menu choice. First impressions from outside on a beautiful sunny afternoon were WOW. But when we went inside and were offered a table we were surprised how close the tables were together. You could not get into the back seat without moving the table to one side, and you certainly could not have a private conversation. We said we were not happy with the table and after a short wait did manage to get a different table with a bit more of a gap. The food was ok wouldn't rave about it. The service was very poor to the point that we had to continually ask where our food was and could we have our wine glasses topped up from the bottle that was placed away from our table. The little area where we were seated next to the entrance and stairs was a constant runway. All the tables next to us complained about the service and we collectively mentioned it to the Manager. I even asked for the service charge to be removed from our bill, which the manager totally understood. A great shame as we had traveled a long way and were looking forward to a leisurely lunch. Not sure I would make the journey again.

We were excited to go for Sunday lunch to the newly refurbished Julie’s. They only offer brunch on Sundays with a fairly limited menu. We had 2 fettuccine, an omelette and quails eggs on sourdough. The fettuccine was very stodgy pasta, definitely not Al dente and the other dishes were underwhelming. It was very busy and the staff looked frazzled. We waited nearly an hour to be served. We were seated by the staircase where the waiting staff were constantly bringing up the food from the kitchen to the tables. A very strange set up. Disappointing.

Firstly, the restaurant is beautiful, and the decor is phenomenal. The ground floor has a strong fish smell, but fortunately, we were seated downstairs where there was no fish smell and it was quieter. With a group of eight, the downstairs area was perfect. We sampled a large portion of the menu, and overall, everything was good. Only one dish was subpar, but nothing was outstanding either. The meat was good, the fries were great, and the mashed potatoes were nice. The spider crab was decent, and sharing one between two people is a smart choice. The bacon butter is incredible. The lobster Caesar was okay, as was the beef tartare and crab tortellini. The duck à l'orange was dry and tasteless. The highlights of the meal were the lobster soufflé and the bacon butter, which essentially came with the bread basket. The staff was friendly, and the wine selection was excellent. However, the service needs improvement. We had three different bottles of wine, but our glasses were never refilled without having to call a waiter, which was difficult since we were seated in a booth. Overall, I do recommend Julie's, and I'm confident their service will improve over time.

My favourite bar/eaterie in London has returned under new management and looking completely different. But probably still my favourite eaterie in London. A triumph! Congratulations to the new owner and team. I reluctantly recommend 'Julie's' as it will only make it more popular!

We visited for dinner on a Saturday evening. We received a warm welcome and I was impressed to see the kids being offered colouring books, which is a rarity at the types of restaurants we frequent. The venue has been nicely set up and we were seated in a booth on the ground floor (there is also a basement level as well as terrace seating). Myself and my wife ordered the spider crab toast, pea panisse, prawn carpaccio, beef tartare, asparagus, scallop tortellini, lobster soufflé, the onglet, and sides of carrots and fries. For dessert we tried the chocolate pave and the creme caramel. The kids were offered a tomato linguine and they also shared some of our food, finishing with ice cream for dessert. The food was generally solid, favourites were the crab toast, beef tartare and the scallop tortellini. Both desserts were winners as well. Service was charming and there seemed to be a lot of staff around which helped things to move along efficiently. The bill for our family of 4 came to £311, of which £72 was spent on drinks. Overall, I wouldn’t say the food was outstanding but it was quite enjoyable throughout and it’s a nice buzzy venue with good service. They get extra points for their fascinating back story, their desserts, kid friendliness and not cheap but not exorbitant pricing (definitely could be worse in this neighbourhood!), which pushes them to a 5 star overall rating.

Cute place that just reopened after 2 years. Food was extremely pricey but it’s expected from the hype/fame it gets. It’s very tasty tho. Drinks are surprisingly not too expensive. Tables are so close together we literally know the couple next to us was on their first date because we can hear what they talk about. Outdoor seating seems nice but I can’t imagine the trouble that I have to go through to secure a table.

Best brunch in london. Attentive service, owner kindly greeted us, delicious food, cozy terrace with heaters and blankets, live piano on Sunday afternoon. Nice for a couple or group of 4-6 friends & family. Dog friendly Recommend the quail egg toast, cabbage, seafood tower (as a starter), & sausage. For drinks - pear pastis and bloody mary :)

I was looking forward to my visit to Julie's, I had high expectations since its re-opening as a local round the corner. The tables were crammed together and there wasn't much space. There shouldn't have been a table where I was sat, as it was right next to the till and the staff had to squeeze past behind me when they wanted to move. For most of the evening the waiters were pushing past my shoulder and chair, at one point a chair was lifted over my head to get past. They were bickering between each other too around the till and we couldn't relax. The starters were good but when the mains arrived the plates couldn't even fit on the table. We had already asked to move a couple times as there were many free tables but were told that it wasn't possible and we didn't want to sit outside either (it was cold). The staff didn't seem to care about how we were doing until we asked to move for the 3rd time as they had to move candles, condiments and other items off the table just to get the mains on, which still didn't fit as our plate were half off the table. We got moved at that point. The food was good however, I enjoyed the big Ribeye steak with the marrow on the side, but when you don't have a good experience what's the point in going out. The restaurant looks good for brunch or drinks outside maybe in summer but I did not have a good experience dining in. They didn't seem too bothered either, waiters nor managers.

Julie's has recently reopened, after closing down. This place is incredible... the food is absolutely superb. The chef that is there now is amazing... I was blown away by the quality of food. The new owner was gracious to come and introduce herself to the patrons. I understand she went to Julie's when she was younger so has taken this on as a passion project.. which is absolutely obvious in the quality of food and decor. It's a real credit to her and a love letter to the history that this institution holds. Only one slight area I would suggest needs work is the service.. it isn't bad.. it was just chaotic. It needs some fine tuning with a solid maitre'd. I will definitely be back.. have already told many contacts to go here! It's a true gem.

Celebrating our parents' 53rd wedding anniversary was truly wonderful. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting ambiance, where the soulful melodies of live piano music mingled with the tantalizing aromas of expertly crafted dishes, wetting our palates for the culinary journey ahead. The meticulous attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from head Chef Owen’s thoughtfully curated seasonal menu to the impeccable service provided by the highly attentive staff. Tara, Patria, Rachel, Daniel, and all the attentive team ensured that every moment was tailored to our needs, anticipating our desires before we even had a chance to voice them. Their vision and dedication has transformed this beloved, aging establishment into a modern culinary haven, breathing new life into its storied walls. Each dish was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with the finest ingredients and a harmonious blend of traditional techniques and modern flair. We left with hearts full of gratitude and memories that will forever be etched in our minds, a testament to the passion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to excellence of Tara MacBain.

Beautiful restaurant with incredible service. Every staff member was so nice and welcoming. I had a snack of hispi cabbage and olives which I recommend, and loved the white wine the sommelier recommended. Do consider the terrace in the summer, if you can get a spot! Highly recommend getting a reservation on weekends.

Can't recommend this place enough. From the decor, friendly service, to the food - standouts are to butter (changes daily and for us was with leek and bacon - amazing), then the oysters, beef tartar (best I've had) and lobster souffle. Also very welcoming of my three year old! Gave her colouring pencils which she loved.
