All great except the tables outside are very close together and are smoking tables. We had to move inside as a couple of guys were 5cm away on the next table both smoking which was drifting over us .. The majority of their tables are now outside. If you're OK with fag smoke or sitting inside then it's a great venue.

This was literally the worst experience I’ve had in a long time. The manager was so incredibly rude I’m still in shock over it. The food is decent and the atmosphere is nice, it’s just such a shame that the customer service is so bad. There was a French manager on call that was incredibly rude to the point that my friends and I were speechless. I’d give this place a 1/10 and the 1 is literally just for the fact that they have a nice outdoor terrace.

Recently came here to celebrate our friend getting married. Atmosphere is great and such a beautiful setting. Food and service however; as we were a large group, we had a choice of fish, beef or a veggie option. Many of us had the fish, for which a few noticed it was almost translucent, even grey and seemed quite raw. We compared to another within the party’s fish and hers was white. We asked for the fish to be cooked through a bit more. We were told that that’s how the fish should look and that they were all cooked at the same time. We still asked for the fish to be cooked further. The waiter walked away and we could see that he pulled a face in the reflection of the mirror. Considering the price of the food, our treatment from this particular waiter throughout the night wasn’t great. However, shout out to Nii the bouncer outside who was lovely.

I rarely post reviews but this is just too bad I had to... First of all, we have dined and travelled from all continents and everywhere in Michelin fine dining or Michelin guide street food places and lived all over the world like nyc, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, LA, Geneva and Hong Kong. This is one experience I will try my best to erase from my memories. I walk around the neighbourhood often and always see this cute corner and this French restaurant. Should have known better when there are only non-French people there. But we decided to give it a try anyways. I don’t even know where to start wow. This left me so much bad taste in my mouth both physically and emotionally I feel the negativity lingering still whilst writing this but I just had to. So the taller and with light hair colour lead waitress who is in charge of the seatings was racist and extremely rude. We were moved many times, the young guy waiter was very nice and offered for us to sit in a better seat and as soon as the other three men came she just moved them there, sitting them down, even though we were also 3 people and came 40mins before they did(yes we were still not served after being moved 3 times). As I tried to get her attention for the 4th times in a very polite tone and she purposely ignored us while chatting up and laughing to the other men on the other tables, her gaze was deliberately ignorant as I was speaking right under her physically, continued to chatting up with the other men asking about her origin, being half Irish and French. Finally I raised the question that we were being offered to sit there, she just gazed passed me and spoke to the guy waiter that offered us the table “why did you give them the table?! I am the person who is in charge of seatings, aghhhh, that is why you should have spoken to me before this always happenes”. At that point we felt so bad for the male waiter we just let it be. She let the three men sit in that corner seat that we were offered and continued to chat to them while not replying to us at all. I switched from English to French in asking the waitresses to get their attention because we were starving at that point and we waited for ages to order another 40 min or more for the food to come. Without asking -They served everything at once on the tiny French tables when everyone else’s food arrived in order and before us (including the men that sat down after us and took our spot). Bear in mind we were a very quiet and well-dressed group that had a middle-aged lady who is our friend’s mom in our group and we did not make any scene or spoke loudly /rudely. Ironically, I lived in Paris and in Europe half of my life time so we were joking how this place is real parisian because of its waitressing attitude problem—except that the food does not match up to the French standards sadly. If the food was amazing -fine we will wallow up the attitude like how we do it in Paris and just watch the waitress being racist and flirt with the other guests and patronise her colleague, mais ouffff—Every dish was over salted with too much cream and butter and even the roasted carrot ..? Also horrid we were so tired and hungry but we also found a white string in the clams we ordered-not gross at least it was not hair at that point we were just shook and tired and starved but like why is there a long white string there??!! My friend’s mom was innocently asking if it was supposed to be there for the clams I felt so guilty for taking her there. 😭 This place just has a cute location and it’s a real shame because it could have been a real jam due to the location. I guess people still go cuz of the illusion it creates and the location itself because there are only these many places to eat in that corner so it kinda monopolised it. I just had to put this out there because damn. We ordered way too many dishes. Giving a 3 star for the atmosphere for the location but the vibe was also not giving. C’est vrm dommage :(

Food is bland compared with so many other restaurants in West London. Steak tartar (£38) was tasteless, monkfish very average. Service was either non existent or determined that we should leave in order to give the table to the next customers. For over £100 a head it really wasn’t worth it, there are so many better places

Food and service were distinctly below average, which is unacceptable given the prices being charged. One of our starters was forgotten (we only ordered three), and there was a very long wait between the starters and the main courses. I asked for my lemon sole to be off the bone when I ordered it, it arrived on the bone, and I was asked if I would like it off the bone! I then had to wait for it to be de-boned while my partner’s meal was going cold. There was no apology. There was very little meat on the fish and it was very oily. The steak was mostly fat and very tough. There were only two waitresses for the downstairs area, and they were trying their best but they were flustered and struggling. When it came to getting our coats, there was no one at reception to help, and the coat check area was a complete chaotic mess, with people helping themselves to coats. We complained and asked for the manager, but he seemed too busy on his laptop to come over and address our concerns, which was very rude and unprofessional, so we left. We will not be returning.

I remember Julie's 1.0 in 1970’s so it was lovely to return to Julie's 2.0 which ticks almost every box - friendly welcome, attractive ambiance & lighting, nice booth seating upstairs, delicious food from a thoughtful menu & smooth unobtrusive service, aside spilling the wine. This is a sophisticated neighbourhood restaurant - but a 14.5% service charge is surprising when leading chefs like Jason Atherton are trying to see these reduced.

We really enjoyed our first visit to Julie’s last summer and were looking forward to going again. Sadly we came away with mixed feelings. The +s are the room which is lovely and good service. For us the ambience was marred by a couple of children who could be heard across the restaurant and the table next to us bringing a dog in which ended up sitting next to them and being fed from their meal. I do appreciate there are different views about animals in restaurants. The food was average to good - we had a lobster salad, the sole and a brunch dish of eggs. There is a good wine list though prices jump - we settled on a Valpolicella which was decent if expensive - though at the lower end of the price list. Service is 14.5%.

It was with mixed feelings that I booked a table at Julie’s having read the reviews of previous diners. Pleasantly impressed by the service we received. The recommended wine was delicious and modestly priced. Happy to report that there was no hard sell by the sommelier. The service was attentive despite being extremely busy. Dessert was slightly delayed and was taken off the bill without a quibble. The food was of a high standard. I would have given it 5* but I was disappointed with the roasted sprouts. I was expecting them to be crispy and I couldn’t taste the cheese topping. I found the rhubarb a little al dente struggled to taste the almond. However, on balance it was a very enjoyable evening and I will definitely return.

Obviamente no recibí ninguna llamada. Comportamiento grosero y repugnante.

Went very recently with a group of friends and had the rudest encounter we've ever experienced anywhere - came on to check reviews and notice this is sadly not uncommon so felt the need to add that it happened to us also and was uncalled for and shocking. We all live locally, my family have been to Julie's in the good old days on numerous occasions and I was beyond excited to try it again. Incredible shame as the waitresses we experienced were beyond lovely, and clearly they were shocked at the treatment we received also. We would have been good repeat customers but will never go again and never recommend it to anyone. London's full of amazing places with amazing management - this seriously needs improvement but sadly won't get it as they couldn't see past themselves to understand customer care.

The food was wonderful but one staff member (I think the sommelier) was quite rude because I was standing at the bar ordering some shots to celebrate our birthday especially at the start of the night. He was visibly irritated by my presence. We wrote in the booking that it was our birthdays (double birthday celebration) and there wasn’t even a mention of it at all. Instead we were rushed off our table towards the end and asked to take a table outside (in storm Darragh). Honestly the experience before this one for my friend was worlds apart and amazing and the reason why we returned as a group especially to celebrate our birthdays. Would not return or personally recommend. Three stars is generous considering the price (the star was held up by the lobster soufflé).

For example, I ordered an Old Fashioned twice: the first one was pure whiskey and the second was overwhelmed with angostura and brown sugar. Both were very unpleasant. By contrast, the Chablis wine we had was very nice. As to the mains, I had a nice endive salad starter however the tortellini crab that I had as my main was doused in what felt like a soup of butter. I very much want to love Julie’s because it’s such a lovely venue. Unfortunately they simply have let themselves down with the cuisine and drinks.

I don’t usually leave restaurant reviews, but after my experience at Julie’s, I feel like I have to. Honestly, it was a ridiculously overpriced disaster. I was excited to visit after hearing about its recent reopening, but I left totally disappointed. Almost every dish we ordered tasted like burnt oil. The duck liver schnitzel was basically just a tasteless lump of fat in more fat, the onglet à l’échalote was like chewing on rubber, and poor plaice meunière was drowning in more burnt oil. After that, we didn’t even dare try dessert. The waiters were friendly but pretty clumsy, spilling things on our table. Looking back, I can't believe I didn’t ask to have the “discretionary” service charge taken off the bill. The decor is nice, and the wine was alright, but honestly, the food quality was worse than what you'd get at your local greasy spoon. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place.

Also the food didn't come in the order we asked for.The sommelier was talking very loudly and abruptly to a poor waitress who was running around in a panic. It was also very very loud , which made us feel soon like we wanted to get out of there . I believe most of the problems described would be solved if the restaurant didn't try to serve too many customers . It is better to have a bit smaller clientele which will return , rather than having a lot of unpleased guests . Maybe we will give it another go , after some time .

My experience at Julie’s was one of the worst I have ever encountered while being in a restaurant. We experienced disgusting and unforgivable misogyny from our waiter who treated us with utmost contempt. Please avoid this place at all costs.

As we entered the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the beautiful decor—seriously, I half-expected to see a fashion show break out! One of the managers greeted us warmly and swiftly whisked us to our table, making us feel like VIPs right away. The banquette was chic and comfortable, perfect for lounging and pretending we were in a trendy magazine. However, while the table had a lovely colour, I couldn’t help but feel it might have been designed for hobbits; its size and proximity to other patrons were a bit cozy, shall we say? It was clear that the restaurant's design was executed with professionalism, although a few mirrors could use a little more attention for that shine. The service was prompt, attentive, and yet not invasive. We appreciated the little touches, such as complimentary water, bread, and other nibbles, which made us feel like royalty, minus the crown and the responsibilities. For starters, we ordered the duck liver schnitzel topped with an egg and chives, resting on confit like a celebrity on a red carpet. It was an incredible bundle of flavour, texture, and juices. The sommelier was very helpful in providing recommendations and accurately gauging what I was looking for. His wine pairing was spot on and complemented my steak beautifully. For the main course, I went for the sirloin with peppercorn sauce, which was cooked to perfection with quality ingredients and seasoning that could make even a salt shaker jealous. The peppercorn sauce had a delightful kick that we absolutely loved. Our waiter, Marc D., expertly deboned the sole, leaving no bones behind yet keeping it presentable—he deserved a round of applause for that one! The Ratte potatoes were generously buttered—some might say a bit too much, but I found it just right. They were nearly perfectly cooked, although I would have appreciated an extra minute. The carrots were well-cooked, and the sole was so tender it practically crumbled under the weight of our adoration. The strong citrus flavours complemented the dish perfectly, creating a flavour profile that could charm even the pickiest of palates. For dessert, we tried the crème brûlée, which sparked some debate about its colour—it could have used a little more love. The texture could have been creamier; it was a bit too solid for my liking, though the flavour was on point. Even for someone who typically doesn’t enjoy chocolate mousse, I found the Roche perfectly light in both texture and flavour, with just the right amount of dark chocolate—not so much that I felt like I was biting into a cocoa bean! The lovely touch of salt and drizzle on top was a nice addition. The shape of the Roche was also perfect, and the pistachio cuboid paired beautifully with the mousse, balancing the dryness and stickiness of the pistachio—it was like a match made in dessert heaven! Finally, we had the pear and almond tart. Unfortunately, it seemed to have suffered from a bit of a mid-life crisis in terms of presentation, with the tart’s point appearing to have collapsed. The cut was angled, which was a detail that did not go unnoticed. However, the flavour of the pear was delicious. The base was a bit hard, and while the almond filling was good, it was somewhat dry. I felt that incorporating roasted and blitzed almonds into the crème fraîche (instead of justin crème fraîche) could have enhanced the tart significantly, adding a complementary almond flavour without altering the texture—think of it as a makeover for the tart! Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, complete with a few minor critiques. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for its ambiance, service, and innovative dishes. Just remember to bring your stretchy pants—you’ll need them!

So excited about celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at the restaurant (under new ownership) where we had our first date and got engaged. Disappointed, despite the stern notices about not being late, to not get a table for 25/30 minutes and then upstairs when we had specifically asked for downstairs. Food OK, if a bit pricey, and service excellent and a nice atmosphere, but it just felt like the place was overbooked in order to cram as many punters in as possible. The team tried to make it up with complimentary drinks etc, but our special place was somewhat tarnished and I can't see us coming back.

Gorgeous setting, quite possibly the best restaurant terrace in London. The food is very reasonably priced for the quality - I had a very memorable Onglet Steak for under £25. The service is slick and charming too. If neighbourhood restaurants are your thing, this should be at the top of your wish list.

Loved our lunch at Julie's. Everything was great, delicious "snacks", pea panisse, crab bites with lemon, moules and quiche (not sure I tasted truffle in the quiche..?). Also no bread with the moules, but we asked for some and it was delicious. They kindly brought a little baked alaska for my friend's birthday and sang happy birthday. Thank you to our server, Max. We had a beautiful bottle of wine. Thank you for the recommendation, Bourgogne aligoté. Can't wait to come back.

We recently visited with friends and sat inside . However there is a wonderful terrace which would be delightful in good weather . Service was excellent and very warm . The food was very good including the crab toast , the chilled cucumber and nettle soup , the beef tartare and for main courses the monkfish tail , (lemon) sole meunière , the onglet and the crab and scallop tortellini . We drank a wonderful Spanish white wine which was suggested by the sommelier . Great ambience and a lot of fun .

Oh dear. Encouraged by a couple of favourable newspaper reviews we went for a midweek evening dinner. First, the waitress behind the bar while we waited for our table was great (although brought still water when we asked for sparkling, but these things happen). From then on… Service once seated was slow, inattentive and uninterested. White wine came when we ordered red wine - funny, in isolation. Then having ordered snacks, starters, mains and sides: one starter arrived on its own with some bread before anything else, then a couple of snacks, then the other starter. This isn’t a small plate restaurant, it’s a restaurant where the kitchen and front of house can’t bring food in the right order or at the same time. Our mains arrived without their side dishes and after a couple of minutes of waiting we flagged a waiter down (there are a lot of them but they’re not doing much serving) who then looked utterly panicked about the missing food. Some salad arrived a few minutes later, a few minutes later some frites, a few minutes after that some green beans. At this point we’d already eaten most of our mains. I say most, but the kitchen wasn’t paying care and attention to seasoning - I like salt on my food, but this was way way way overboard. I left half of my main uneaten, and the sides weren’t finished either. Like eating a salt brick. At no point did anyone check on the meal, apologise for the late arrival of 60% of it or ask at the end how it was. We skipped dessert, paid an left. In hindsight it’ll make for a funny story about a terrible restaurant with pretensions - but what makes me mad is that some people will save up to go for a birthday, or anniversary or something special because of the press reviews by identifiable critics. Don’t do it. The couple next to us were celebrating a birthday; both looked broken by the end and nobody seemed to care. If you live next to it then fine, why not, I imagine it’s more fun than microwaving a ready meal and on that basis alone the culinarily challenged of Holland Park will keep it in business. But if you enjoy eating or appreciate good service or live more than a 5 minute walk away then why bother?

A very nice and cozy restaurant. The wine, food, and staff are very nice, and the customer base is very good. I had lunch by myself, but I was glad that they were able to accommodate me even without the main course. When you order a dish, the sourdough that comes with it is warm and the pink spread is very delicious. I fell in love with this shop, which feels like Paris ♡ (The customer service is even better than Paris, lol)

WOW! We had a fabulous 25th Wedding Anniversary at Julie’s Restaurant tonight and we’ve never been to a restaurant so attentive! The staff were wonderful & really helpful. Our meal was great, from Quails Egg snacks to the Crab Toast - fabulous! We then had some Oysters with a Bloody Mary Shot (one of our favourite combinations) - very good. Followed by the Lobster Soufflé, with new potatoes! You only need one shared with two as the Soufflé has a sauce around it (like a thick Lobster Bisque itself! We followed on with the Cherry & Almond Tart and my husband had the chocolate Pave dessert! Wow this dessert had to have 100% Cocoa in it! We met with Tara, the owner who is committed to maintain and continue Julie’s Restaurant’s status, as one of the most iconic venues to be visited, with a relaxed bohemian atmosphere, friendly people, great attentive staff. Definitely a restaurant to be visited! Food - tick, Atmosphere - tick, Value for money - tick. 100% recommend to everyone!

Being local we have eaten at Julie’s in its various incarnations over the years - I can honestly say this is the best yet. Tables nestled on the pretty pavement among the trees, menu original and most importantly delicious, without being contrived. Staff seem to really enjoy working there and it shows in their service which is friendly without being intrusive. Pricing fine for Notting Hill. Thank you for a lovely low key meal.

Food was average at best for such a hyped up French Bistro. Wine and wine connoisseur was excellent. Our waitress was just awful and extremely rude. She was just rushing the service. Clearing table and dishes when we said we were still eating. One of the desserts was “cheese selection” and upon asking what selection of cheeses there were I was told, “something from Shropshire or some other shire” then she said Chef says “selection”. Finally upon asking again I was told exactly what cheeses I was about to get for my £20. Overall average food, terrible service. I wouldn’t read other newspaper reviews which were clearly bought for publicity.

Love this place! I came here years ago with friends and we were treated so well. I was in the area and decided to pop in for lunch. Instantly both the man and woman (I believe they are the owners) made my 2 year old feel so welcomed and made every accommodation to make us feel comfortable (offered a high chair, extra table so we had space). The woman also hung up my rain cover for me with such care as it had been pouring. They were so friendly with us and made every effort with my son, talking to him like he was family. The food itself was delicious and so well priced considering the area. I look forward to going back the next time in and around south Ken!

Small but perfectly formed! Excellent location for Cadigan Hall and has some nice bars and restaurants very close by. We stayed in a Cosy Double. It was a little small, but it had a comfy bed and an excellent shower with Moulton Brown toiletries. The AC wasn't very good, but we could open a window. The curtains didn't fit properly, so the light came through early! We'd definitely stay again if the price was right!
