Marco's Mediterranean Kitchen in Rother

This place has lovely food, nice decor and excellent service. We felt well looked after and got a top tip about where to go next.

Fresh, beautiful food (we had shell on prawns, sea bass, tacos and roasted aubergine - all were incredibly flavourful and perfectly cooked) served in a warm, welcoming space. The other highlight was the gregarious and personable staff. And some amazing cocktails. A perfect evening.

The staff were attentive informative and knowledgeable. Food was excellent and well presented. Dog friendly and really can’t fault this place we’re not veggie but selected veggie options were superb

Wouldn’t honour a booking for window table. Quite the rudest and most unpleasant staff ever come across. Completely spoilt our evening.

We happened on Marco’s while walking round Rye on a hot July afternoon. We were welcomed in and shown to a table at the back with views over an old courtyard. The windows were open and it was delightfully cool and shady. We tried a selection of dishes - all delicious. The combination of the high quality of the food and the exceptionally good service made it a lunch to remember.

The host was really such a turn off. I came to spend a few days in Rye which have been really beautiful . I looked Marcos up and thought that would be lovely to try. Walked in, I was met with this blond Lady who said Id be at least waiting for 30 minutes to eat. The place only had 4 tables full. and the rest was empty. She said all the tables came at the same time as long as you don’t mind sitting hungry. I said even salads? maybe Ill order a salad till then. She replied yea even salads. So I said Im not sure do you want me to leave? She was like oh no and then she pointed to the ugliest table in the corner, Do u want to sit here? she said. She really was not nice. I just think you can’t be a restaurant hostess if you an unfriendly and not a nice person. Please find another job . Not coming again for sure.

Wow what a fantastic spot! Three of us went for the Marco’s burger and one of us ordered the chicken tacos - it was fantastic! You can choose your fillings so we all had different variations of the burger and all of us were very happy. The chips were delicious and well seasoned and the drinks were fantastic. The waitress was lovely and provided recommendations for places in Hastings which we were visiting the next day. We felt well looked after and loved the atmosphere. Will definitely be back again!

I went to this beautiful restaurant with my boyfriend for our anniversary. It has a conservatory that you can sit in with wonderful view over looking the old monastery. Even if you don't bag one of those seats, the interior is so beautifully decorated that you can sit anywhere in Marcos and feel like you've got the best seat in the restaurant. As for the food. It. Is. To. Die. For! Absolutely amazing and cannot fault it! Amazing staff as well, Hettie and Mary were so accommodating and were even able place a candle on our table for the anniversary as I'd requested before booking. Very easily the best place in Rye. DO NOT MISS OUT!!!!

Ordered falafel, two small ones arrived. I was so hungry I ate the first one but it was very dry...overcooked and quite tasteless......didn't eat the second one as having recently had a delicious falafel wrap for less than half the price of this one decided to not be British and tell the waitress. Charged for half and no offer of anything to compensate the slant of the evening .....dull dull dull....cam home and had a bag of nuts!

This is an absolute must if you are visiting Rye. We booked last minute although I don’t think you’d be able to in the busier months as it was busy. The staff here were so nice, helpful with the menu & just fun. The decor is lovely. The food was incredible!! Everything was amazingly tasty, beautifully presented and just so so yummy. We had lamb skewers, halloumi, mussels and charred corn & then ordered more mussels. I would literally drive to Rye just to eat here!

I stumbled across Marcos on a recent trip to Rye. Sadly, the management who run this restaurant are suffering from delusions of grandeur and mistake their sub par local eatery for an exclusive Michelin star restaurant. The bolshy 'maître de' refused to refund my table when I had to leave Rye due to a family emergency and his decision to charge me £40 (and do so rudely) has left me wondering whether Marcos management needs a reshuffle. A word of advice - listen to your customers and tone down the ego. Word travels and reputational damage is worth far more than a £40 fee!

Lovely spot in the middle of town with great views. The waitress serving us was brilliant and the cocktails were good. We had a selection of tapas dishes which varied in quality. Most disappointing were the langoustines which were very small and unfortunately over done so any meat that was there stuck to the shell. It would be nice for the bread served with dips to be warmed. Courgette fritters and calamari were good.

Even at the last knockings, the staff were able to get us seated, helped us celebrate our engagement that night, and provided us with a memorable and special night. The Aubergine dishes were very flavourable as was the Honey Glazed Cauliflower Steak. Would high recommend if you are visiting Rye.

What a hidden gem! My partner and I are on a trip to rye and very gratefully found Marcos. It’s very unique and nothing like the rest of the town (in a good way). The food was delicious, there were so many options for all diets and for once we found an affordable negroni which didn’t break my bank account. The place was so cool and had great music which made us very happy. It was sadly a little empty, but it’s a new year and the town was very quiet so that’s no shock, even without many other tables the place was still a great place to eat in. The staff were lovely and very hospitable. Will defiantly be coming back and could not recommend it more to anyone. 10/10!!!!!!

This is the second time we have been. The food is healthy and tasty and different from anything else close by. The staff are friendly and our dogs were made very welcome. The slight drawback was the music which we found a bit intrusive

Beautiful looking restaurant with a fab view of the old monastery wall to the back. However both my wife and I felt a little confused as the wall art was more likely from South America (we liked, but incongruous). Everything else was pleasant including the bar and waiting staff. But it’s having a great eating experience that matters and we, quite simply, did not get even an average experience. I had the notion, and I expect this wrong, that the food was out of the packet. My calamari was like chewing rubber bands and the plate was a little ‘minimalist’. The Porcini Spaghetti with pulled beef, I couldn’t (but did taste) find a mushroom, and the pulled beef was dry. My wife’s Halloumi was sweet in honey and raisins and not Greek/Turkish but more Moroccan or Algerian. I can’t recall main course but it was unsatisfactory. Being local we did not find the menu that inspiring and secondly, usually the first thing we are served at our Turkish restaurant is bread and olives. I’d love the restaurant to reconsider its menu and use local fish caught locally.

We were unable to attend our booking due to personal circumstances, we called to cancel but no answer, so left a voicemail apologising and said to ring if there’s any issues, we could also see bookings still available online. A few days later we saw that Marcos had marked our booking as a ‘no show’ and charged £20 per head (£40 total). I emailed to apologise and explain further and ask if there’s any room for movement on the charge due to the circumstances. We received a very blunt reply with no understanding at all. Me and my boyfriend had made the booking for his birthday, as we had been wanting to try this restaurant for ages, unfortunately we will not be giving Marcos another try, as we have already paid £40 without stepping foot in the restaurant.

We changed the booking from 7.45 to 7.15 told the restaurant would be very busy, there was 6 of us, we arrived at 7.15 to a practically empty restaurant. Have to say the service was quite good. The food we ordered was bland, lukewarm, and very small potions, we were not impressed, during our 1.5 hours there, the restaurant remained empty, no atmosphere or buzz about the place. Sad, we spent 2 nights in beautiful Rye, and 2 overpriced bad meals.. best to stay away from the high street. I wouldn’t go back to Marco or the Union, both poor..

I took a friend of mine for her birthday to Rye. She loves old towns. We decided on Marc's and were not disappointed. The service is great, very friendly, and, the food was heavenly. If you can, sit in the back by the windows as you can admire the old wall of what used to be a monastery (that's what we were told it to be).

Went to Marco’s in the summer and enjoyed our meal. Went on 1st December and totally different. Friendly service each time. Thank you. Food ok but over priced. Main meal was brought out when we were not yet half way through our starter and we really had to protest to get them to take it back to the kitchen rather than leave it on the table! Then had to wait quite a long time for mains and when it came it was cold. when asked how our food was, we tactfully said it was tasty but cold, the waiter said, well as long as it’s tasty….. we heard the table next door say the exact same thing about half an hour later and they got the same response… as long as it’s tasty…,, it won’t do guys. I can only assume you’d had a bad day but the place wasn’t busy enough for that and I see you had the same review feedback about cold food a week or two before. Disappointing.

Such a shame - the food here is lovely but portion sizes are really small. The recommended 3 dishes for tapas works out around £30 per person. Either very expensive for a family or you leave still feeling hungry!

Do not go! Expensive undersized portions. Service was average and 10% automatically added to the bill. Thoroughly disappointing, especially as the reviews earlier seemed to rate this place so highly. This was definitely not my impression or experience or that of my family’s.
