Marco's Italian in East Devon

Fancied trying this place for a while, we had an absolutely delicious starter of Pate, best I’ve tasted for a long time. Then we had ordered lasagne of which I can only describe as worse than a supermarket ready made! There was hardly any meat in it, too much liquid which made it a sloppy mess! I couldn’t finish it so I did complain and was given a reduction on mine! The owner was acting like a child barking at one of the staff and it was totally a very unpleasant experience! No ambiance at all. This is purely based on my opinion and experience on the evening. It was a special celebration which was ruined. I would have had a better experience in a chain restaurant! The waiters were pleasant and obviously the cooking is not down to them. Won’t be returning!

Budleigh Salterton does not abound in dining options, and we ended up at Marco's by default. The meal was uneven, but, to be honest, a bit better than we expected. The upside: my cannelloni was a satisfactory traditional version of the dish. I ordered a side salad, and then noticed when I got the dish it came with a salad. I resented the server not telling me of the duplication, though the tomato and onion salad was pretty good (despite so so tomatoes). One of my dining partners ordered the antipasto which also looked appealing. However, the fried squid appetizer portion was microscopic. We had an inexpensive Sicilian syrah which was excellent for the price. The quality of the desserts was also mixed. Three people wolfed down their tiramisu happily. On the other hand, my panna cotta was glutinous and my wife's cake was very dry. It's fun that a couple of staff talk to the chef in Italian, but the high volume in which they do it is less fun. In general the loudness of the staff communications was a negative aspect of our dining experience.

We were staying at Devon Cliffs and this was only about a 10 minute drive away. We called on the way to ensure they had a table free with space for a pram, confirmed straight away this was possible. As soon as you arrive, you are greeted by lovely staff and seated. Service was great throughout, but there were a couple of things that let down the whole experience. First being, we asked for all the food to come out together, the garlic bread we ordered come out as a starter and therefore the mains took a long time to come out as the staff assumed we were just taking a while to finish, I had to mention that I was saving this to go with my main so they started the main courses. The garlic bread also came out with large clumps of garlic as though it hadn’t been spread round, I’m a garlic lover and even I had to scrape some off in order to eat it. When the mains arrived unfortunately there had been a mix up with my partners main, his pizza had been taken to the table next to us and he received theres. The waiter was extremely apologetic, we confirmed we wanted the pizza we originally ordered and not the one that we’d received and this was with us in about 15 minutes, by which time I’d already finished my main. We could also hear the chef shouting in Italian due to the mix up, which wasn’t the nicest experience. Aside from the above the staff are lovely and the food was good, maybe we just went on an off night.

Also there for several meals, pub and Marco’s Italian Restaurant. Very friendly town. Meals ok, probably Italian meal, better than pub meal. Whole area, very pleasant, and a good central place to stay for visiting other local locations. Otterton Mill which is very close to Budleigh Salterton, is really good for meals, delicious and varied.

Beautiful restaurant, spotlessly clean with characterful staff! Enjoyed our evening and would go again, most entertaining.

A lovely Italian restaurant, food was delicious, atmosphere and service great. Have booked for another night in our holiday week.

Great food, great service and the gelato is lovely. We ate here twice in the week we stayed and had a wonderful meal both times. Would highly recommend.

Went in on a Saturday night with my family and enjoyed a lovely meal. The staff were all brilliant, attentive and humorous. I had the prawn starter which had nicely big seasoned prawns. The garlic bread we shared was also great  For main I had the veal escalope. It was cooked perfectly and came on a bed of sage mashed potato. Delicious flavours! Not so much a 'red wine demiglace' and more like a gravy but that was fine with me. My sisters pollo penne was a little overcooked but the sauce was super creamy. The place isn't cheap and we only really went because we had a gift voucher but we were very happy to have been.

What an amazing birthday evening I had! The food was outstanding and the pate was the best I’ve ever had. Staff were very attentive and friendly and kept the drinks flowing. We were a group of 10 and all have said the food was delicious. We will definitely return and recommend. Thank you x

The food was excellent. Marco and his staff were efficient and lovely but the food was just wonderful . Would recommend this busy, friendly, well run restaurant to anyone. If I lived closer I would be a regular. I would like to wish Marco all the success in the world.

We went to Marcos on the last night of our holiday and I only wish we had visited earlier so we could have eaten there again! The food was absolutely delicious with fresh ingredients prepared and cooked to perfection. We pretty much tried it all - pizza, pasta and seafood - and all agreed it was one of the best Italian meals we had ever eaten. Special mention must go to the lobster ravioli which was divine. The service was also excellent. If we find ourselves in the area again we will definitely be back!

A busy restaurant full of atmosphere and happy, smiling diners; always a good sign. I was shown to a table right at the back; initially I wasn't too happy about this, but in fact I was right next to the open plan kitchen and enjoyed special service. The chefs were very chatty and seemed genuinely interested to hear about my coast path walking, despite having a frantic service. I started with the scallops, beautifully seasoned and cooked, followed by a very generous risotto. I finished with the chocolate and orange sponge, a slightly odd consistency, but not at all unpleasant. I was offered a free limoncello, not usually a favourite of mine, but this was exceptionally good. Highly recommended.

Who would have thought sleepy gentle Budleigh Salterton would offer such an Italian gem - absolutely fantastic! Excellent food, particularly the seafood offerings (scallops and bacon/seafood linguine/lobster ravioli), all of which were perfectly cooked, beautifully served and delicious! The service was spot on, the wine perfect - no wonder it’s wise to book ahead!

The food was lovely- tagliatelle/ pizza ordered. Wine expensive but good. But the service was interesting. They were busy. But left water at table then didn’t come back. Asked to order drinks. Arrived then the waiter said I will be back in two minutes. Ten mins later I had to ask to order. Noticed this with the other tables too. The waiters seem a bit distracted to be honest. But don’t be put off as there is so little open in Budleigh on a Monday eve this may be your only option. And the food was good

My husband & myself ate there 19/06 we were booked for 8.30 & we were shown to our table within 5 minutes, The food we both had was absolutely 1st class, I’m returning Wednesday the 30th with a friend & of course it’ll be many more times with my husband, Although we live in Brixham but the drive is well worth it, The staff & atmosphere was excellent & I highly recommend it, Marco your great & keep doing what your doing.

Food, drinks and staff all very good. Book in advance as always busy. Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough.

The food was good but it looks as though (like many in hospitality apparently) they're very short on experienced staff and struggling at peak/busy times. Plenty of buzz.We booked just over 2 weeks ahead but could only get 6 or 8pm. Not because they do 2 sittings but because they were busy. This was borne out when we arrived to see only one table of about 15 unoccupied.Our arrival was when the disappointment started. We waited for almost 5 minutes to be even acknowledged at the door. We did then get seated but had to wait nearly 10 minutes for our menus. Luckily there was a wine and drinks list on the mantlepiece near us. After ordering drinks they arrived and a little later our orders were taken. After a decent wait our starters arrived. The scallops were excellent, as were the garlic mushrooms. The pate looked good too.Again, after a fair wait, the mains arrived. We had canelloni, ravioli and penne. All had excellent sauces. The Pinot Grigio was nice to drink as were the G&T and Syrah. It was getting late by then so we skipped desserts. Disappointingly, we had to wait over 15 minutes after having requesting the bill and another 5 after chasing for it. After arriving at 8, we didn't get out until just before 11.Very nice food but we won't be going back until we know that they're fully staffed and providing the kind of service other reviewers have mentioned.

We went for lunch during a visit to the beach with my wife and my toddler daughter. The owner was very friendly and even was making jokes that kept my little daughter occupied and made her laugh. She normally gets bored and throws tantrums and makes our life miserable whenever we go out but not this time. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. The draught beer is very rich in flavour and one of the tastiest beers I have ever drunk.

Such an incredible meal. Absolutely delicious food, great service. Really enjoyed it! Highly recommend the Veal with Lemon!

We ate here on a Monday night and had an excellent mixed platter starter which included some top quality olives. I then had one of the best fillet steaks I have ever had. I think it was Tournedos Rossini but was also served on a pate toast. It was thick, tender and delicious. Marcos is a "real" Italian restaurant in that it has a full menu of meals other than pizza or pasta. Highly recommended

Had an early dinner with Mum tonight, partly because Mondays are quiet and we haven't been for a month. We both had Risotto con Frutti di Mare, what an awesome choice, delicious with plenty of seafood, cooked to perfection. Piping hot espresso coffee as we couldn't manage a pudding. Brilliant friendly service, can't wait to go again

We first visited 18 months or so ago and the service was dreadful. We visited tonight and were served by a very attentive Antonio and support team. Service was first class. The room was quite cold and they immediately turned the heating up. The food was very good and tasty - especially the calamari fritti and they offered some lovely fries potatoes instead of normal potatoes. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Can’t wait to return.

We thought we would try this as had good reviews. We found staff pleasant. The restaurant was very busy and felt a bit crowded by the door at times. I had lasagne which was a very small portion in a shallow dish with a few leaves on side called the salad. Not impressed and not much flavour to the dish. However the Chocolate pudding was delicious. Okay Average food with a nice atmosphere inside the restaurant.

Had such a wonderful evening at Marco’s, good social distancing between tables and sanitizer on arrival. The staff were all so lovely and attentive. The food was to die for, the best Italian meal I’ve had in a very long time. There was not a single thing I could fault throughout our evening each course was beautifully presented, piping hot and absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning!

We enjoyed a decent pizza here during our stay in the area. Reasonably priced and good service. Everything you’d expect from a small Italian. Calzone was a beast and very meaty.

We loved Italian food, we found the food ok, the service was fine but the food was just average. This restaurant is directly in Budleigh and very close to the shops.

Refused to honour a voucher alongside the Eat out scheme. This forced us to return to the restaurant a second time in order to spend the voucher. The food was ok, but nothing special and instantly forgettable. My Italian friend ordered a pizza with rocket, onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms and onions were uncooked and the pizza un crispy, soggy bottom, no seasoning and lacked flavour. We raised this with the owner who stated it was a Sardinian pizza. No great advert for Sardinia!! My Lasagne della Nonna was ok...apart from the lumps of uncooked flour in the white sauce.....and not as my nonna cooked...disbelief at a pizza called Mafia Pizza...and was told by the owner to F*** O** !! not authentic Italian...

Second meal from Marco’s this time a takeaway. Superb even though we had to drive back to Sidmouth before we ate it. Fresh, hot and big portions just as good as in the restaurant. We will definitely return and have recommended to friends.

Called to enquire about a take out as the restaurant was fully booked. The man who answered the phone was rude and abrupt, no apologies, he just said they couldn’t help us as they were too busy...then hung up. Pity as the place came highly recommended. Didn’t leave a good impression on us.

We booked to have dinner here weeks in advance as we knew all restaurants would be busy during the holidays. The restaurant had a welcoming feel and although busy it felt safe and not too clinical.We had the Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Marinara and Marco’s special fillet steak all of which were perfectly cooked and very tasty.Staff were busy but attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Marco’s has to be one of the best Italian restaurants for miles around ! Visited with family and received outstanding attentive friendly service. Food is superb / very generous helpings and great value for money. We will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later😀😀

I had a big birthday celebration with 4 of my family in July and was able to get a table and after months of home cooked lockdown, it was the best Italian food I've eaten in UK (I lived in Rome for 15 years) really delicious, very lovely atmosphere and great staff. I'd been before and will definitely go back.

Fantastic evening spent at Marco’s. The food was incredible. The male waiter (I’m so sorry I can recall his name) was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my main so much, and inquired about the dish I chose. Thoughtfully I was introduced to the kitchen who explained the ingredients after I devoured it. They were so grateful to receive a compliment. The whole experience was wonderful. Thank you. X

We ordered a takeaway online which was easy and booked a delivery. The food arrived on time and was excellent. The pizza Eddie and the calamari were particular favourites with the family. I would definitely recommend. We are now looking to book into the restaurant while we are staying locally.

Very nice pizzas we ordered as take away...super quick and convenient The tomatoe sauce had a bolognese taste and the quatro fromagie was brilliant !! With the sea view nearby..what else 🤩👌

We had a great meal at Marco’s Italian this week. Delicious food, amazing Ice cream and lovely wine. Service was good and the tables were well spaced out to ensure social distancing. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area.No specific children’s menu but they will happily make a smaller portion of anything on the menu - the best way to do kids meals!

I booked a table at Marco's Italian after seeing it on Trip Advisor. I contacted them via Facebook to check they were open for dinning in, as I wasn't sure. We were staying locally and looking to eat out and I knew with the current situation that we needed to book somewhere in advance. The restaurant was very easy to fine and we parked right outside. The service was perfect, the food was amazing! We had a mixture of starters that we all shared. The main course was great, the best carbonara I have ever had! The drinks were lovely too. We were WAY too full to have desert unfortunately.With regards to COVID, the waiting staff either wore a mask or a visor and we were kept at a suitable distance from other users, but there was still a good atmosphere.

I lived in Italy for 6 years and the taste wasn't anywhere near italian and the quality of the ingredients was very poor even if they was claiming "fresh, local and some imported from italy". It's all a lie

We thought we had booked this restaurant but had accidentally booked somewhere else online however the staff fitted us in and we had delicious meal. Lovely modern decor and prompt friendly service. I would highly recommend!

Seeing that the majority of reviews are positive and recognising that any restaurant offering a service during lock down is helpful to the community i regret needing to put a mainly negative review at this time.I will just concentrate on the main courses.My wife had the lobster dish which was chewy and greasy. I had a simple spaghetti dish which was well cooked but the meat sauce was in hard lumps, was greasy and seemed to have come from a freezer.Had we been eating in the restaurant both dishes would have been returned but when you take a meal away to your own home it is harder to express your disappointment particularly during lock down.

We Rang Marcos for a take away Italian to celebrate or wedding anniversary. The food was very tasty, arrived hot and tasted very fresh. Would definitely visit again. Looking forward to dining in and trying more of the menu.

Delicious veggie pizzas from Marco's and home made vegan ice cream too. Looking forward to enjoying a sit down when the current situation improves.

In these difficult times Marcos are staying positive and providing a take out service. The food was great - even after staying warm in our oven for 30 mins to allow for a quick G&T. Had the mushroom starter (lovely), Pollo Alla Naomi (our favourite) and a mix of puddings(the honeycombe cheesecake is fab). We decided to add a bottle of their Pecorino - which I can totally recommend. I really hope they can weather this current situation ok. The quality of food and friendliness of the owner totally deserve a positive outcome. The best takeaway we have had for a very long time. Thank you.

Marco’s is a brilliant Italian restaurant which offers in house dining and takeaway options. Reasonably priced and very tasty. Generously sized pizza which tasted amazing! Will definitely be going back soon!

Booked for 17 people for a 40th party. Despite our large number the event went really smoothly and we had a memorable lunch. Food fantastic. Suited all ages from 11 months to 86 years of age! Beautifully prepared table including balloons.Presented our fairy cakes for us with candles and good humour. Excellent service, friendly host/manager engaging with us over his accordion.Thankyou Marco’s.

Birthday celebration, had a very pleasant evening, it was fairly quiet but that wasn't a problem for us, just meant perfect service. Had a warm welcome ordered wine, starters and mains. Pate dish and scallops great, followed by Ossobucco and Halibut both delicious.Really enjoyed our food and will return on our next celebration. Thank you.

On arrival the guy who runs front of house greeted us fairly abruptly and then disappeared leaving us holding our coats.Drink we requested (from the drink menu) was not available.One of the main courses we asked for was also not available. We were offered an alternative but when we asked about the dish the front of house guy had to go back and ask what was in it - he should have known!Overall the food was good but the front of house guy runs around frantically and doesn't seem to achieve a lot - he is the weak link at this restaurant. We have been several times but each time they are let down by the maitre d.

A good place to meet with friends although when full it can be quite noisy when full. Portions are generous and reasonable priced. I really love the pasta with crab.

We love it here!! The food is always to a brilliant standard. Well cooked and plenty of it. Service with a smile too! Had a lovely anniversary evening here and the table was decorated for us which was a nice touch. Be back very soon!!

Although a very busy Saturday night, we were fitted in. The service was great and the food was awesome. First visit even though it's walking distance. Well done Marcos!

Stopped for lunch, left two hours later... this restaurant is not ideal if you're in a hurry as Italians tend not to want to rush their food and the quality of food served means you should take your time and enjoy every bite... Not cheap but well worth the money. Thoroughly enjoyable time and we'll be back.

Visited Marco’s with Family on a Sunday night. This was our first visit and will definitely be visiting again. We were all extremely impressed with the warm friendly welcome as well as the outstanding menu on offer. Portions were extremely generous and cooked beautifully! Decor is lovely with a warm Italian theme. Superb!

Enjoyed our meal very much ..... in a beautifully decorated Italian themed Christmas. 4 of us, two vegetarians, and one gf and df does not always give a great menu choice .... but the two wonderful front of house staff did not have a problem with this. Choices from pizzas and pasta up to monkfish and steak cater for all tastes and budgets, and they would modify a dish if required. I could join in a pizza as gf and df was not a problem and was so tasty and full of the fillings. Interesting starters include swordfish carpaccio ... wow, beautiful and so tasty and light to eat.

We are regular visitors to Marcos and are never disappointed by the friendliness of everyone working in the Restaurant . A lovely place to eat with wonderful food and a really good choice of drinks.

For an impromptu visit on a Monday night, this restaurant impressed greatly.

Great night out with friends. It was a monday night and very quiet. Food was good but good have been warmer, plates cold. However, the food was stil good.

Have been twice to Marcos now and both times the food is tip top , always perfect , however the Italian waiter has such a attitude about him , he’s unwelcoming and arrogant , the only reason I wouldn’t return would be because of him and the way he treats customers and other staff members , I’ve witnessed him being very rude to another member of staff while we were there , not a nice way to treat people .

What a wonderful evening we had at Marco's. It was a family and friends get together for our golden wedding. The restaurant had been decorated for the occasion and the atmosphere was brilluant. There were 18 of us all having different starters and main courses and everyone without exception praised the excellence of the food. We did not have to ask for anything as everything we needed was organized by the staff who were so attentive.. Thank you all at Marco's for making our evening memorable.

Miserable service. Took three requests to get water!! Bland tasteless pasta. Overpriced. Certainly not worth the money and no lunchtime specials. No return visit planned!!

We got a very icy non-greeting from the female staff who didn't look up or acknowledge our existence until we said something to her. Even then she didn't look up, just said "when we're open, I can take your order." The front door was propped open, and when we checked our watches as we just saw the door open and on a whim decided to pop in...seconds early! Please don't shame humans if you have the freaking door propped open, but you don't want customers to come in!! We got a pizza for take away, but waited quite a while even though we were the only ones there. We ended up walking around the town a bit because the staff made it so awkward and uncomfortable. Then waited some more when we went back. The atmosphere is okay, not charming, not cosy, sorta cheapish and ordinary. The pizza was pretty good, seemed to be fresh ingredients, okay crust, good sauce...it was alright.

Just had a nice evening meal with our 2 children (aged 9 & 6) who were made to feel welcome. Nice atmosphere, nice decor and good food. Found the service to be good, not overly attentive but if we asked a question they were happy to help. My husband had the pate and said it’s the best he has ever had (it’s his usual starter). Kids and myself shared the antipasti which I was a little disappointed with as I thought it could have been better, but the mains were very good and deserts also very good. I think Budleigh has needed a family friendly place for some time and we were very happy with the evening. We will return and would recommend for a family meal. Only thing we missed is the usual breadsticks that we used to get at the Italian restaurants!! Thanks to Marco and the team.

We have eaten well here previously and so booked a party of 10 as part of a weekend celebration. The food is not fine dining but great for a family Friday night out Italian style! The service was good, and we have always found Marco and his team a pleasure to do business with! This is an italian run by Italians so you don't get fast food service - but we have not experienced the undue delays or neglect report by others.

Nice warm friendly atmosphere and dishes to suit your pocket. Service is a little slow at times but the food is very tasty.

Very poor service. We booked a table for two on Monday. We welcomed by the waitress at 7pm and were offered a table in the middle of restaurant with people walking both sides. We asked if we could a more secluded table but was no (no reserved sign). We accepted the first offer and was left for 10 mins.When placed order the Palma ham and melon took half hour and main coarse took another 20min.

We had booked a meal for 2 on a Wednesday for 7.00pm, we arrived at 6:30 and asked if it was ok to be early. This seemed to be 0k and were shown a table near the food in a draft. We asked for a different table, there were several for 2 free But the waiter was reluctant so we moved the table away from the door. We asked for a bottle of wine and olives, the wine was slow to arrive, the olives even later. Eventually the. Meal order was taken and again slow coming. We asked for a sweet menu twice and ordered again slow arriving. When it arrived we asked for the Bill and nothing. We asked again nothing. In the end having stood up and gone to the till we eventually paid. 3 hrs for a meal. There were only about 20 covers and the restaurant was about half full. We got the impression holiday makers and they wont come back. A family on the nex table played cards to pass the time. This was a shame, the food was good the service poor. There were 2 people waiting on and one washing up. We were unsure if they were understaffed but although time was not an issue for us. Trying to catch waiters attention and being ignored , requesting Mendes and bills and being ignored reminded us of Faluty Towers. A shame really.

We visited twice during our brief visit to Budleigh. My husband was the accordion player mentioned in the previous review and it was a delight for him to be able to play for the 89 year old birthday boy who was a lovely man and an accordionist himself!

Went as a family of 8 to celebrate my fathers 89th birthday! Setting is relaxed and nicely done; food was good - mixture of starters and mains - I can recommend the melon/Parma ham starter and the lasagne was very nice. Service was attentive and everyone enjoyed their meal. We’d had a lovely evening and everyone would’ve said it was a nice celebration for my dad! Then my dad starts chatting to the boss about how he used to play the piano accordion and had an Italian one... we’d settled up and were about to leave when we were asked to delay just a few minutes....

This is absolutely what budleigh needed! It has great atmosphere and very nicely decorated!! I went with my family and they very much enjoyed the dishes they ordered. The taste of the food was great and it had so much flavour! The only bad thing I would say is that the pizza was a little thin and had lots of air pockets which made it not as thick, but other than that it was amazing!

Beide Pizzen waren sehr wenig gewürzt. Die Pizza Napoli war sehr käselastig und die Diavolo kein bisschen scharf. Der Espresso war sehr gut, allerdings gab es zum Süßen braunen Würfelzucker?!? Der weiße Hauswein hat uns gut geschmeckt. Italienische Pizza kenne ich komplett anders. Vielleicht mag man sie in GB gerne so.

Our first visit to Marco's found us suitably impressed. Great food, Moules were served in a gorgeous sauce, really reccommended.

Starters: Melon & Parma ham - Rock hard totally un-ripe melon and thick sliced parma - when the waiters were informed - just a 'Sorry' was forthcoming - No 'would you like another etc.' The Mussels were ok - the Calamari average. Mains: Pizza - pretty good . Crab Tagliatelli very average no sign of Crab meat (that was 2 out of 2 plates) All in All this place does not deserve the high food ratings given here - this was pretty early evening - definately not busy. Beer was cold, the Frascati was dull (even for frascati)

First thing to say is that the food was excellent. However, the service wasn't what I'd hoped for. I don't like being addressed as "guys" all the time - it's very irritating. Also, we had to ask twice for water, our second drinks order sat on the bar for 15 minutes before anyone brought it to us, they needed prompting to bring spoons for pasta half way through our main courses, a half portion of pasta was served as a full portion, and our desserts were not all brought at the same time. That said, the staff were friendly, if not well trained, and the food was excellent. The bill wasn't accurate, but we worked out it was approximately what was due, so we didn't query it. A good meal, but the service let's this place down - some more training for their serving staff would make it a great restaurant.

I have never written a review and headed it in respect of the staff. Although the manager is always very busy due to the popularity of this restaurant and a shortage of staff the welcome he gives is honest and sincere. This is not often the case in this country in today’s world.On this occasion we did not have a starter. My guest had the Tagliatelle Funghi e creamer and I had the Risotto Di Mare. Both were excellent. To follow I had the mango cheesecake which I’ve never had before it was very good.We had the house white which we enjoyed.

This is a cosy restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was really nice, children had Pizza which they could only manage half of, but could take the rest away. I had crab with tagliatelle and it was delicious, husband had lamb shank and also said it was good.

If you are in or around Budleigh Salterton then, Marco's Italian Resturaunt is a must. The service is fantastic and the food is out of this world. The owner, Marco, is one of the chefs and the dishes are all made fresh on order. If you're looking for fast takeaway type food then this is not the place for you but, if you want to enjoy a superb evening and really soak up the Italian atmosphere then, you will really really be impressed. Thank you all for making our holiday with the lovely meals and excellent service.

A relatively new arrival in Budleigh, and so far extremely popular. But the menu doesn't change much so we may get tired of it. Typical up beat and cheerful staff, but service could be quicker.

Marco’s is an extremely good Italian restaurant. The service is excellent as is the food and the choice of wines. The House Red was particularly good. Overall, a great place to eat and very good value for money.

Welcoming staff, very nice atmosphere, very impressed with refurb, but food let it down. Dry chicken breast with a tasteless red wine sauce.

A very warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door; this is a restaurant with a truly Italian feel. Service throughout was superb and so were our meals (sea bass fillet, and tagliatelle with mushrooms and a cream sauce). Pleasing also that wine was really quite reasonably priced. And the Italian cheeseboard was very, very good.

Cosy, often full and bustling, good food. A nice mix of authentically surly Italians and friendly locals serving. I had spaghetti with clams, others had pizza. Nice Pinto Grigio. Seems to hit the sweet spot with the Budleigh set and has been full both times I've been. Will go back!

I reviewed Marco's in Budleigh Salterton very soon after it opened in 2018. This was the first time we have had the chance to eat here again and it was an absolute delight. Service from both the maestro di and the new waitress was professional, smiling and efficient. The food as before was faultless - the two of us each had a three course supper, having different dishes, all perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Frascati was probably the best we have had in a restaurant in the UK. Well done Marco's - glad to see you doing so well.

Where to start? From the appropriately warm welcome, to my father not wanting to look at the menu (he had forgotten spectacles) vegetarian and having a quiet word with the charming cuoco Marco who delivered surprise plate after plate of delicious vegetarian dishes. Fish, my word. My parents used to have the Italian just up the road and I can say I have never had fish as fresh. The mussels were unctuous and perfectly piccante, the calamari - I have only had better in Cape Town - and the bass, prawns and saffron - wow! We were expecting an eye watering bill given the quality of the food but no. Extremely reasonably priced wine list. Do you have room for us tomorrow?

My wife and I visited this evening - a Thursday- 30 May. A busy evening so obviously popular. The food was excellent, the service fine and just the right amount of attentiveness. Highly recommended

A superb meal with excellent customer service with an excellent bottle of wine. We'll be back tomorrow night.

Visited Marcos last Saturday evening having had conversations beforehand with Naomi re special requests for our family birthday celebrations. On arrival we received a warm welcome and the table had been decorated along with birthday cards for my husband and daughter. We all found the food to be delicious and plentiful. My monkfish dish was perfectly cooked and those who chose pizzas and calzone said they were very good, as were the lasagne and seafood risotto. Marco made us a great birthday cake/dessert with lemon filling and fresh fruit, all covered with fresh cream. The Prosecco was good and Limoncello one of the best, resulting in many refills! It was busy in the restaurant but felt that the service we received was pretty good. The wait between courses was not excessive. We asked for some changes/additions to items on the menu and although the waiter seemed a little reluctant, these were delivered as requested. This was our first visit to Marcos and will return on our next trip to Budleigh. Be aware that gratuities cannot be put on card as part of main bill, which may mean the staff miss out if you don’t have enough cash. Thanks to the team there for a great evening.

Visited the recently opened Marcos many friends have told us how good it was so had to try it ourselves, we were not disappointed, friendly staff and our food was excellent restaurant was full but service was not to slow, not the cheapest but everything is high quality and freshly prepared, booking advised as always seems full.

A lovely evening spent with friends. The food was wonderfully presented and service from all staff was polite and friendly.
