Very friendly, pleasant and attentive staff. Good range of food and drinks. Food hot and tasty and very quick service. Take away and eat in (extra seating downstairs). I will certainly be heading back there soon.

Voy mucho a Londres por la fotografía callejera. A menudo comienzo mi día aquí.

Paid this 1950s American movie-themed cafe a visit before an exam. Very friendly, attentive staff, fast service and the food was great. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area!

It’s been several times since I come in this place. I find quite interesting all the paintings and pictures along the walls, it gives a sober retró athmosphere. The staff is very friendly and nice, once you make your order they will serve it to you directly to table. Prices look very competitive. A classic breakfast, which I definitely suggest for starters, is only 6£. Not bad considering we are just a bit away from tower hill. Also recommended the ‘full English breakfast’ (attached in the picture below).

Het eetcafé is op zijn Amerikaans ingericht. Het personeel is er zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Je kan er lekker eten voor weinig geld. Het ligt net naast het Jack The Ripper museum.

Very good traditional cafe. Very friendly staff. Great food, particularly lunchtime specials. Interesting decor. Now there are lots of hotels and hostels opening in this area and this would be a great place to experience a real traditional English breakfast. Sausages really good. Popular with builders from the many sites in the area and office workers = a real endorsement.

I ate the kebab which was yummy and affordable! It was after 24 hours of flying and transfers. This place is very close to Wombat’s hostel and a tiny/cheap deli so the convenience is really good!

Not good Was enjoying my omelette then when I eating I noticed a black hair. Made me sick. Complained and did not have to pay for my breakfast but left a bad taste in the mouth and still feeling sick. Since then I was sick twice, will not be going there again.

I don't know how they are for breakfast, but they never let me down on quality or quantity for lunch. Salads and sandwiches always good value for money, and while there isn't anything especially "inspired", they are reliable and satisfying. My office mates and I come here often (at least once a week) and they are always warm and friendly no matter how busy.

If you are staying on Dock Street, or close then this is a very good place to eat. This is a very nice little place for breakfast. Great range on their menu. I had the veg breakfast and it was very good. Not very expensive.

I tried here a couple of years ago and it was not good. As I work nearby I tried again. I wanted a full English breakfast. It's all there, minus the black pudding, but it's not well cooked. The bacon was greasy and the toast was not hot. Best avoided.

I’ve lit things on fire here. Paper scraps. A spell or two that my flatmates and I cast together. No one said a word. We’ve laughed here like we invented it. Cried into Yorkshire puddings. Written down names and hexes and dumb little hopes and tucked them into the little library. Recently, I spilled about a breakup. Red flags. Bad behavior. (Both mine ofc). And ghosts wearing Rick Owens leather jackets. The cute pub cat didn’t seem to mind. The roast is divine. The staff looks like they’re all waiting to fall in love until after last call. Loosely. But it holds you. Some places try and fix you. This one just hands you a pint and asks follow-up questions.

Thoughtful, well-paced, the kind of curation that gives you space to breathe and still hits you in the gut. Go for the art, yes. But let’s not pretend: I’m here for the bookshop. The Whitechapel Gallery bookshop is dangerous. It’s small but brutal. Everything is too good. Every shelf has at least three things you didn’t know you needed. You walk in thinking, just a browse, and leave wondering if books can replace intimacy (they can’t, but they’ll hold you through the comedown). If you’ve ever wanted to ruin your budget in the most beautiful way possible, this is the place. Whitechapel Gallery: come for the exhibitions, stay because you blacked out in the bookshop and woke up with five new Documents from Contemporary Art category books and a tertiary TBR pile. And huge update to this! The bookshop is now carrying Apparitions from tent.press featuring some of my writing along with art and words from other South London visual scholars. Pick one up 🤍

¡Volveremos!

Food was really good reasonably priced . The only let down was waiting 25 minutes for a breakfast when it wasn't that busy
