About 10 years ago when The Manor was under different management my family and I ate here, the food and service was so appalling we vowed never to eat here again. This week we had another family gathering and were told that The Manor had a different owner and that the food and service was much better. We decided to go on the 14th. Oh my goodness we couldn’t believe the warm welcome and the excellent food, they must have a five star chef. The food was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed our meal so much we returned the following evening.

Horrible room…no other word for it. Room 3, so small I couldn’t open my suitcase without putting it on the bed. It was ridiculously noisy and so worn out. The bathroom was just hideous with a cut out vile flooring that was cut out in the wrong place. Shower was something from the 70’s. The toilet pipes were full of dust and grime. Lady who checked us in was less than helpful - don’t think she knew what customer relations were or even how to smile. Asked to move rooms but she was having non of it. The breakfast lady and the breakfast itself were lovely and I cannot fault them. Would I recommend or return? Absolutely not.!

We arrived as a party of 5 with no booking on a busy bank holiday Sunday evening. Staff rallied round to accommodate us, opening a side door to assist my elderly father who has poor mobility. We enjoyed a fabulous meal with great hospitality and service. Highly recommended. I would not hesitate to return for another delicious meal when I next visit the area.

The Manor serves excellent meals and the chef is very friendly and amendable. The pub is where we stayed and we were not disappointed with our room, plenty of hot water and a very good shower. There is plenty of hanging space and drawers. We ate there every night of our stay and the food is not the cheapest but is excellent quality. St. Bees is a good base for walking and only a few miles from Whitehaven with its usual big shops and eateries. We would return in the future and recommend this to anyone. We'll worth a visit.

Was staying in Cleator for a few days but as it was my birthday my partner booked a table in the Manor thinking it would be nicer than the hotel. Big mistake. Place was heaving with noisy workmen downing pints after work and loud locals so realised this wasn't the upmarket place the name suggested. We had a dog with us and were shown to a room on our own, which was OK, but think they forgot we were there as it took ages for a woman to come and take our order. We asked for a sausage for our dog and were told we would have to buy a child's meal if we wanted one sausage - so much for being dog friendly, and not wanting to pay £9 for a sausage our dog went without. Food was disappointing- not much choice and ended up with a few tiny scampi and under cooked chips which were £16 - way too dear for what I got. Didn't bother staying for an over priced dessert which we expected to be the same poor quality and bought an ice cream from a petrol station on the way back to our hotel. Woman who took our money couldn't be bothered to crack a smile and say thanks for our custom, and we couldn't wait to get out. For anyone visiting the area, avoid The Manor as it only welcomes locals.

In summary: a poor quality experience and I wouldn’t return. Booked two nights stay here (on separate bookings) for a business trip. Called a few days before to explain the two bookings and asked for the same room. Told not possible as it was full but they would try (no problem). Got there at 9pm, asked the same question, told again full, fine bit of a shame but I accepted it. Next morning, packed up my belongings checked out first thing. When I got back to check in again, told that I’m in the same room! Ugh…..!! The room was clean. But above the bed (room 9) is an emergency exit light which illuminated the entire room all night. Not great. The shower head was broken, so it functioned like a tap. The window rattled all night until at 3am I jammed some paper in it. Evening meal was poor. Only me and another couple in the restaurant, which I guess is testament to the quality.

I want to give this a balanced review as we visited The Manor for drinks and we throughly enjoyed it. We preordered over the phone as we were a larger table and there was a clear miscommunication. We ordered ‘Piri Piri chicken with flatbread” but we had 3 salads appear. When they arrived we mentioned that we were expecting something else but the gentleman said “I’ve only got 2 hands the rest is coming”. The food was nice but we were disappointed by the lack of willingness to even bring us a flatbread to create the meal we were expecting. The customer service lets this place down, as it was otherwise a nice meal.

We arrived for our meal at the very most 6 mins early, the bar staff were really friendly but when we were advised to go into the restaurant we told the male waiter (bald headed gentleman) that we had a table for 2 booked for 8pm . He replied to us saying “well is it 8pm?” Loud enough for the whole of cumbria to hear, got sat on a table big enough for a toddler eating on their own at the very most. As a paying customer at the very least you should be spoken to with decency and respect. We left and placed a complaint which I doubt will make a difference. The one in particular gentleman in question needs a course on customer service. Absolute ****hole. We managed to get booked into the vagabond in Whitehaven last minute, staff were amazing and food top notch. If you have any respect for yourself, do not go here as he will try his best to dampen that.

Booked for a weekend break. Arrived mid afternoon Friday bar and gardens absolutely rammed with a large group of what seemed like locals who had come back for a party. They dominated the whole bar and made it an unpleasant place to sit and relax. Checked in and shown to room. We were a bit concerned that the noise would carry up to the room but it didn’t seem to - in the afternoon we had a nice walk down the beach and ate in the restaurant of the hotel. Food was ok basic pub food. I’m coeliac and they were able to cater for that ok. Unfortunately not long after we ate our meal we got a call that my son had been in a car accident and we had to leave. I explained the manager (I think he was). Who said he understood and would sort out the fact that we’d paid but not stayed. Unfortunately this never happened.

Surprisingly high quality food with added bonus of being dog friendly! A real find. The flavour and burn of both the red and green Thai curries, plus a deep and rich steak and ale pie supported by stable of traditional pub grub for daughter with scampi & fries and Teriyaki chicken bought a great holiday to a fitting and memorable end. Staff really helpful and service with a smile even when explaining the sad story of “”sausage Dave “ thanks

This is not the first time I have had a poor experience here so this is not from one visit but my findings from this visit echo what happened on the other occasions. We tried to book a table for what I would consider a normal time of 7/7.30pm. In both occasions we were told we would have to come earlier. I have found it’s not because they are busy it’s just they can’t be bothered to serve food so late. So we booked a table for 6.30pm. Upon arrival the welcome is always cold and “have you booked” mentality. As soon as we were seated they wanted to take our order when we hadn’t even finished getting comfortable. We ordered. The food arrived quickly and it was decent pub food. However the serve is not good. We were looking at the dessert menu and it was taken away from us. Then at 8pm they clearly wanted us to move so when we said we wanted a dessert the waitress rolled her eyes and just said “what do you want then” with a pretty much can’t be bothered attitude. A couple of friends met us for drinks following our meal and they said when they entered they got the impression that they were putting the staff out by even ordering a drink. In summary the food is fine but the service is always terrible and I will choose other pubs in the village/surrounding area before returning here where I will hopefully seem to be less of an inconvenience.

We came for a starter and a dessert for lunch. Waited 30 minutes for a soup and hummus and marinated olives with warm baked ciabatta and balsamic vinegar with olive oil. Disappointed with the second starter as the bread was cold and the balsamic vinegar didn’t come. I asked for the balsamic vinegar twice, was first given the different packets of mayonnaise and vinegar etc. asked again and was told it was at the bottom of the olive oil, it wasn’t. Didn’t ask again as I wasn’t sure if they actually knew what that was! Didn’t bother staying to have the desserts.

This was our first time back at The Manor, since before covid and we were looking forward to a nice lunch since we were in St Bees for the day. Our food was amazing. We had the chicken kebabs and our son had a burger. The bar was very lively with lots of people coming and going and it felt like a bit of a party atmosphere, which we liked. The staff were very professional and our food did not take long to arrive. Our lunch turned out to be even better than the last time. We did chance our luck coming back in the evening for dinner, but it was completely booked out, which wasn't a surprise, never mind! Looking forward to our next trip already.

Just had a wonderful Sunday lunch with the family. Personally I took the option of Lasagna , which was bang on for me with a good meat filling. Everyone was happy with them set meal Lunches. Only problem was the coke was a little flat on this occasion.

We went for Sunday lunch on 26 January and was looking forward to it as I had heard lots of positive things about the place. Unfortunately the positive things I had heard didn’t ring true. They ran out of beef, the children’s meal was served late (halfway through our main), mashed potatoes were lumpy and had no taste, roast potatoes were dry as were the stuffing balls and they ran out of 2 out of 3 of the deserts. After we had sat down got our own drinks from the bar we were told there was no beef and only a couple of slices of cheesecake left but there was sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. When it came to ordering desert we were told there was only apple pie left! There’s really no excuse to why their mashed potatoes were so poor. I seen a previous review from 2019 which said the same thing. How hard is it to properly mash a potato and add butter/milk/cream and a pinch of salt!To conclude, the whole experience wasn’t really good. Go Wetherspoons instead; you’ll get better quality food and a better service.

Cannot say a lot . I phoned on the 5th November asked if they were serving meal's on new year's Day . Told yes by a gentleman. So booked for 1230 on new year's Day . Arrived to be told there were no meal's that day. I even checked my phone to make sure I phoned the right place

The manor is a nice local pub/restaurant used by the local population. Varied menu of typical english food. Very close to the train station and several Bed and Breakfasts. Nice selection of domestic english beers

Been there Saturday night out with friends. Very rude black hair girl was behind the bar. Her level of ignorance and bad customer service is appealing. How people like her are even working behind the bar ?

We called here for lunch and were very impressed. We were able to take the dogs in. The place was very welcoming with friendly staff. There was a special lunch menu at a very good price. All three meals were delicious. Highly recommended.

We have eaten at the Manor several times whilst traveling through St. Bees and have never been disappointed. All the meals are cooked on premise and served fresh by an attentive wait staff, We highly recommend stoping by and enjoying the village pub atmosphere where the food and service is excellent.

A lovely meal in nice surroundings, a birthday treat for my brother in law, he enjoyed his steak and trimmings, we can recommend the steak pie and the seafood risotto also finished off with a good coffee

Visited here at the start of August for my son & his friend to start the coast to coast walk, we arrived late Sunday evening and the staff were so accommodating, fitting us in for some excellent food & provide a home in their fridge for my many sandwiches for the walk the following day. The rooms are clean very well equipped & comfy beds. Again the following morning the staff couldn’t do more to help providing an early breakfast for the boys starting the coast to coast with expert advice from the owner on routes plus bottles filled with cold water & the sandwiches ready to keep the boys fuelled. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Inn, wonderful helpful staff in a fab setting.

Stayed at the Manor for one night before our Coast to Coast trip. Very friendly staff but rooms are tired and need an upgrade. Would probably try somewhere else if we went to St Bees again.

Called in for a quick meal prior to catching a train, thus in something of a hurry. Andrew and Sam could not have been more helpful or obliging. What wonderful service and professionalism they gave us in serving excellent food. Well done The Manor.

I have stayed here a couple of times and the staff are lovely nice atmosphere and a comfortable stay. However when myself or friends have went to leave the car park the owner drives in your way and glared at you like you shouldn’t park there. It’s so rude and uncalled for it isn’t that when he is taking mine and my friends money. I don’t think I would stay again through this nor when I visit go to the pub for food or drink - this is no reflection of the staff just him.

I’ve been here a number of times and I have enjoyed it every time. The pub is set in beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere is happy and relaxed as it’s full of likeminded outdoorsy types. The food is tasty and has good portion sizes.

Shockingly dirty for a place serving food. Chairs an absolute disgrace. Dirty, stained, marked. I'm amazed environmental health hasn't been in and told them to get them cleaned. If it was only one I could have attempted to make some sort of excuse. But it wasn't. A group of us had gone for lunch but we all decided to find somewhere else. I'm honest baffled how Dixons are getting away with it? The Terrace cafe in Workington put this place to shame. I'm amazed people were eating there. We wouldn't go back. Pictures enclosed. Zoom in guys. Truly mehhhh 🙈🤮

This place is unreal! Honestly you could not write how bad it is, it’s that bad you just have to laugh. There is absolutely no organisation at all. There were 3 waiting on members of staff, none of which had a clue. They wandered around aimlessly with food & drinks with absolutely no idea what table they were for. They were in & out of the kitchen with the same plates of food, it was just bizarre. One table, while we were there, were given their mains at the same time as their starters! We had to ask for our table to be cleared, if you asked for anything it took them at least 20 minutes. I have never seen such poor service. Food was ok, nothing special. The only reason to return would be the comedy value, you cannot believe your eyes!

Honestly I've been to some decent places, between the absolute wordlie I was with and then Rebecca who we were lucky enough to serve us, food was absolutely unreal can't knock that in the slightest but Rebecca's genuine service from the off / personality is the reason I'll not think of anywhere else next time I'm back. Food amazing but I never leave reviews usually she deserves every second of praise. See you soon wor Becca x
