Mangrove Indian Restaurant in Bolton

Our regular go to for superb Indian food. Was here at the weekend and in September for a birthday meal with friends. It is friendly, homely and we are always greeted and welcomed like good friends. My little treat to the wonderful staff, a small piece of my birthday cake, so very warmly and gratefully received. The food here is outstanding. The staff are so friendly and always have time to spare to have a genuine chat. We love being able to take our own wine which helps keep costs down for us. Nothing is too much trouble for this family and team of staff. We have been going since day one and it keeps on getting better. If a dish needs tweaking to your preferred taste, just let the staff know. Nothing is too much trouble. Keep it up mangrove family.

Always the best food. Slightly late but still as good as ever.

Placed my order and was given an initial delivery time of 6.00pm. Order didn’t arrive so asked for a text update, new time given was 6.15pm. At 6.30pm rang the restaurant who said the driver was a ‘few’ minutes away, the order was eventually arrived at 6.40pm. The food was in transit for over 30minutes and was cold, the order was missing the rice and we shall not be ordering from here again

food was not only around 45 minutes late it was cold won't be ordering again from here, chips tasted like they had been there all night

Mangrove is hands down the best Indian restaurant in West Bolton. Every dish on the menu is a hit, and we've never been disappointed. Whether it's a spicy curry or a flavourful biryani, everything is made to perfection. It's become our go-to spot for carryout, and the quality and consistency keep us coming back. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Indian food, Mangrove is a must-try! Highly recommend for both takeout and dine-in.

all the food was cold when I got it and that's after having to walk to meet the delivery driver 5mins away because he had no idea where my house was. Love mangrove usually but was disappointed this time.

If I could give zero I would. Food was shocking, inedible and bland. Curry was sugary and not representative of Indian food at all. The worst of all was the atrociously bad attitude of the worker there- female. I just asked for a little extra chilli in my food and she snapped and me stating that the food was already done. Then she had the audacity to carry on with that bad attitude . I’m amazed that they are still in business with this disgusting behaviour towards their customers. I’ve read reviews and clearly I’m not the first- no wonder they are so defensive when questioned!! They were unapologetic when challenged regarding their abismal tone. Indeed they were arrogant and aggressive. What an absolute disgrace- community of Westhoughton, do yourselves a favour and spend your money elsewhere. I recommend Taste of Raj.

Really friendly staff. Food is delicious. Payment is cash or bank transfer. Also, add your number plate into the ipad as you go in for free parking.

Being a local restaurant, its good value. We ordered 3 mains accompanied by sides for 3 people. The garlic naan was one of the better ones we have tried. The mains are a good size, plenty of curry sauce. In terms of overall taste, its good, the chefs here seem to prefer a liberal use of sugar if thats to your taste! We did notice though, the meat content was a little bit on the light side, so be aware of that. They do have a little car park to the side, which is a bonus. All in a all, a reasonable place for a curry.

wow never order from here again.. delivery time was 1hour 15 mins.. it actually arrived 2 hours after ordering.. rang restaurant 1st person that answered shouldn't be dealing with customers.... I was told that they were short staffed but hiw is that my problem, if you haven't got the staff then don't take the order.

Brilliant food. However I placed an order online but it didn’t have the option for what I wanted so I immediately called the restaurant to rectify my order where I was greeted by a woman who didn’t really understand what I was saying. I wanted chicken and donner instead of chicken and lamb. Her response was we will sort something when I can find your order. So didn’t want to take the risk as I wasn’t filled with much confidence. A real shame aswell.

We had a lovely meal at mangrove. The Food was delicious and the service fantastic. The restaurant isn't licensed so we took a bottle of wine with us and they charged us a small fee of £1 per person for corkage. We loved it so much we had friends round a week later and decided to get a takeaway. We used the bolton eats app which the restaurant manager recommended to us which had a discount of 40% so of course we took full advantage of this and used this to order extra starters. My friends are itching to go back and order from the full menu which we will do in the near future.

Good good, very hot and tasty.

Food is really nice. Portions are massive though, always end up taking home. Staff are superb. Bring your own drinks. Would highly recommend. But owners seriously, you guys need to decide if this is a takeaway or a restaurant, waiting two hours for a meal while watching takeaways go out is frustrating. Just staff up then everyone's a winner.

Wow! Amazing curry! Only had a basic chicken korma but its the best I'd had in 6 year's! Lovely,melt in your mouth chicken pieces in a sweet sauce,heaven! Greeted by very friendly staff who chatted like I was an old mate. Fantastic service. I WILL go back and recommend it to all

The food was fantastic. Very flavourful,portion size was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn’t fault a thing about our food and service. Please try this little gem. If you want alcohol bring your own. They have glasses available and ready on the table.

Not up to usual standard wrong dips (second time) source bitt dry not enough chicken

I have been living abroad for 3.5 years. I used to go to mangrove almost every week. I have spent a lot of time travelling through India and love Indian food. Mangrove used to be some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten. Something has changed (possibly the owner). The food isn't remotely as good. Not even a patch. I have spent 3.5 years looking forward to eating a mangrove curry, tonight I was bitterly disappointed. 8.30pm Saturday night, the place was previously booming. Every table was full. Tonight we were the only family in there. A clear sign in the decline in quality. The presentation of the food is completely different. My curry was a different colour to what it used to be.

Quality food professional service

We are regular customers of the Mangrove and it’s our go-to curry house. It’s now run entirely by Abdul and Hasina with their family and they really try to give the best service and attention. Portions are generous and tasty. Customers can bring their own alcoholic drinks and just pay a small corkage charge. To keep overheads down they don’t take credit card payments, only cash or bank transfers. Obviously, when it gets really busy, service is a bit slower, but that’s only to be expected. We have eaten dozens of meals here including at the busiest times and it’s always been good.

FROZEN FOOD. Just had the weirdest experience at a restaurant ever. Been here before and it's been great, but something has changed. My friend's starter came frozen, with ice visible. We politely challenged this and were told that "it hadn't fully defrosted." Erm...OK. When trying to pay the bill we were told that the owners don't trust card machines and had to pay by bank transfer. They handed us a small slip of paper with their bank details. Dodgy much?! I decided to question why the restaurant charges the prices that it does for food that is advertised as fresh on the menu? The co-owner lady was aggressive and decided to invite her two 16 year old daughters over to join in the discussion, for reasons unknown. Then loudly stated "I'm not having you speak to two 16 year old like that" when I was only asking A: Why frozen? and B: Why no card machine, like every other restaurant in the western world has? Avoid like the plague. My friend had diarrhoea for days after coming here last time, I didn't, and assumed that it was a coincidence. Not so sure now! Dodgy! Food was average and overpriced, but obviously might have been better if fully defrosted! 😂 Note to the chef: give it an extra 2 mins in the microwave mate!

After so many amazing experiences with Mangrove this fell way short on taste, flavour and quality. Very disappointed. For the price you pay I expect much better. Didn't even get a free poppadum!!!!

Returned for a takeaway after a long absence because of poor food and deteriorated standards in the restaurant, we have been going to tamerine but decided to give mangrove another go, what a disappointment, chutney watered down, mint watered down very small pots of onions, naan bread under cooked and soggy onion bhaji was poor also no mint sauce they also forgot the pilau rice with my rogan josh. Very very poor. Also did not like to see children behind the bar, very unprofessional. It's back to the tamarind table from now on.

Absolutely terrible used to always order from here collect stamps numerous occasions and it's just gone extremely bad if they are new owners which clearly I'm guessing by the food firstly 30 minutes late fare enough but then watching out my window to see the driver clearly trying to deliver my food to 2 separate addresses on the other end of my close then driving off and turning back yet another 10 minutes later with food missing cold and just disgusting they offered to bring the missing food which I gave away as if !!! I would ever eat it then lost good customer terrible service and food now shame...

The wait time from when I ordered gave the restaurant an hour 20 mins to make and deliver. After that was up I messaged and was told another 20 mins. After that was up I rang the restaurant and told it still hadn't left and would be another 15 mins but in fact it was another 45, so from.when I ordered initially it has taken over 2 and a half hours!

Good food and staff can't do enough for you. Take your own booze. Glasses and ice provided.

Second order placed at mangrove and second order delivered late had I not phoned up at expected time of delivery I doubt I would have even got our food , given previous reviews about late or not received orders I really don’t think I would order from Mangrove again , either they are super busy and can’t cope or no one is responsible for online orders . 7 of us visited on Saturday the 9th March. We haven't been since last year for some reason. The welcome we received was second to none. Everyone was so lovely. Atique and Hosina (hope my spellings are correct) were absolutely delightful as were all of the family and the food was delicious. We won't be leaving it so long next time. We’re regular customers at Mangrove, we get takeaway and we eat in too. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you receive the best food and service, every time. Great customer service! We had to call the restaurant to make a few changes to our order, and they did this with no problems at all, the food came on time delivered by H who is a legend, and the food was lovely, overall very happy with our meal and will definitely be going back

our delivery time was 6.10pm and it arrived at 7pm. we had to ring the restaurant to see where it was, as justeat app said that it had been delivered. when it arrived it was cold and we had to heat it in the oven which resulted in the food drying out. I also ordered a mixed grill starter for but they only delivered a starter for two, which was roughly £5 cheaper. Not very happy at all as this was a family birthday meal.

Very poor meal. Tasteless, watery chicken korma. Visible oil layer in the carton. Naan bread dry and tasteless too. Would not order again. Unhappy with this, delivery also took longer than specified.

Mangrove continues to be an excellent Indian restaurant and takeaway. I’ve been visiting for several years and it seems to be getting even better. Thoroughly recommend the peshwari naan. They use honey to sweeten it rather than sugar. I’ll be back again soon.

Food ordered just after 7pm. The order was supposed to be delivered within an hour, at 8.10pm. The delivery time moved on but the order status didn’t. We tried to call, no answer. Husband drove there at 8.30pm and they said the driver had set off, husband arrived home at 8.36pm, food arrived at 8.59. Cold.

Usually use this Indian takeaway and always pleased. This evening slightly disappointed. Chips stone cold and garlic naan missing. Tried to contact - no answer. Was 30 mins later than expected also.

Food really nice but the problem is the portion size the curry only a half filled small container chips not a proper portion the food is really nice but you need to sort out proper portion sizes I will try once more but if it’s small portion sizes I won’t order again.

Extremely disappointed with my order this evening! Food took over an hour and a half to come even though it was literally just a kebab and chips and when it for arrive it was stone cold! Chips and nan bread were nothing very soggy and everything had to be re-warmed in the microwave!! I'd heard good things about these kebabs but it really was not good at all!!

Food arrived 2 hours after placing the order, restaurant did not answer my calls I phoned 11 times to find out whether I needed to sort an alternative meal out, food was Luke warm when it arrived so I had to microwave it to heat it back up. Very poor, won’t order from there again unfortunately.

My family and I had a wonderful time for my birthday, the restaurant was really busy due to it being close to Christmas. However we were very well looked after and the food was fabulous as always, we really enjoyed the curry’s that were suggested. Also a massive thank you for the “Happy Birthday sing-a-long” that the whole restaurant joined in, when my cake arrived at the table. It was great value and great atmosphere.

Got a message to say food was on its way, however after 30mins I used the help function on the app, eventually got the order over 45 mins late, hence the food was cold when we opened it, very poor service

Having been a regular customer of Mangroves since it opened, and enjoyed many meals there I'm afraid to say I will not be going ever again!! As everyone knows who goes to mangrove, you can take your own alcohol. I decided to take a bottle of prosecco for me to drink, and just in case took a prosecco glass with me as didn't want to drink it out of a wine glass. My husband handed me the bottle and glass out of the bag and put it on our table. A waitress came over to our table to take our drinks order, of which my daughter was ordering a soft drink. The waitress spotted the glass I had brought and very abruptly told me in no uncertain terms that I was not allowed to use a glass of my own, and said there was a notice ( which I have never seen in all the years i've been going stating this) A genuine mistake not knowing this. How I was spoken too and made to feel was so unnecessary. If she had explained in a non aggressive way I would of been OK with that. Having afew minutes to digest how I had just been spoken to, the manager I think it was came over to take our order, I told him how I had just been spoken to and he too showed very little interest, and again said about the notice. Myself, husband and daughter were in disbelief of what a drama had been made out of me taking a glass, so much so we got up and decided to leave the restaurant. Not in any way was this acceptable when we are a paying customer. On our way our 4 or 5 members of staff were hanging around near the exit of the restaurant having no other customers in but us, we told the manager how upset we were of how I was spoken to and made to feel. Not an apology or anything to make us feel better. He simply shrugged his shoulders and let us leave the restaurant whilst the staff were all were there. I have never in any establishment been treated in such a manner. Shocking is an understatement. We will never give our customer again to this rude and unprofessional bunch of amateurs. If they knew about hospitality they would know how to treat and speak to their customers. Never again will I set foot in this restaurant!! JUST UPDATED THIS REVIEW TO ADD A COMMENT. 2nd time ordering from here the food arrived hot and on time. The curry is the best we’ve had from any Indian tasty and full of flavour. The kebab was huge full of meat and flavours, highly recommend

Missing curry in order, food arrived extremely late and cold. Chips and nan were dry and awful cold. Poppadoms burnt with burnt holes in. Manager offered full refund if we went through justeat but justeat only refunded less than half of the total bill. Won't use again.

Ordered a balti but ended up with a korma

We attended this evening for a double birthday celebration meal with our a family (13 of us) From the second we arrived, to the second we left, we received first class family orientated service, great attentiveness, great food quality, and they even accommodated food requests for a couple of starters that were not on the menu. Hasina (I think I’ve remembered her name correctly, apologies if I haven’t) and her husband looked after us so well, and made us all feel so welcome The food was superb, and all came out together, and they were totally on the ball with everything. Alcohol is not sold here so we took our own drinks, which for us was financially beneficial. Because of all of these points, we will definitely be going back to try some home style Bangladeshi food as promised. 5 Stars all the way. Thanks again for your service this evening.

I am a regular at Mangrove. never had a problem with the food or service..went with my son and was shocked at a customer shouting and verbally abusing the waitress. Disgusting behaviour. They didn't even give a chance for the owner to speak. All to do with the customer who bought her own glass to drink out of..Why would anyone do that? You can take your own alcohol in but glasses are provided by the restaurant..Whats it going to be next?? your own cutlery and dinner plates lol..why not cook your own curry at home and bring it in to avoid paying lol..There was no need for that kind of behaviour..Disgusting..

What a fabulous place! The food here is 100% - the flavours are out of this world the chefs know EXACTLY what they are doing! As for staff, you couldn't fault them!! They were so attentive & helpful in suggestions of what to eat..... an absolute wonderful place! Can't wait to go again.....

Don't know what the food is like as the order was never delivered. Initially given a delivery time of 1.5 hours, rang the restaurant after that time, said they were short staffed and it would be another half hour. An hour later, still nothing. Tried to phone the restaurant multiple times, but they wouldn't pick up. Disgusting service. Just tell us if you're not going to be able to fulfil the order, don't just ignore your customers!

They said they will give us a full refund because of waiting so long for our food

Absolutely rubbish. Phoned 4 times and still no curry. 2 and a half hours later we are still waiting despite many promises it was on the way. They have lost 5 customers in this process.You have ruined everybody's evening. Once finally arrived, there was some parts missing even though they made sure it was coming. There was even a burnt naan and wrong parts if the order. Useless.

I have had afew days to consider my review after a very upsetting experience at Mangrove restaurant. I have been a customer of mangrove since it opened and seen staff come and go. Unfortunately I had a very unpleasant experience on Saturday with a female waitress who was rude, aggressive and not in any way regretful for the way she spoke to me. I was so upset and angry that we left the restaurant and vowed never to go again. I have left a review on trip advisor with all the details of the incident. Too long and upsetting to be honest to write again. To the owner of Mangrove you need to train your staff in how to speak to your paying customers, a serious lack of basic hospitality. I'm afraid you have lost a loyal and regular customer !!
