Mammalena in Portsmouth

The pizza is the best beats Domino's and Pizza Hut by far and the coffee beats Costa and Starbucks too just a shame there is no where to park outside!!!!!!!!!

Estaba tan emocionado oír sobre la primera italiana en Portsmouth, y aún así fue una decepción. Pedí el Green espinacas Tortellacci con salsa carbonara, que estaba tan salada que me impactó. Apenas podía probar algo más aparte de la sal, y la porción no era bastante razonable para el dinero que gastamos en la comida. No volveré pronto.

Mi amigo y yo comimos en este restaurante anoche. Ambos nos pedimos pizza, que tenía un precio razonable pero bastante pequeña. El servicio fue bastante lento y el personal distraído. No recibimos una vuelta de fecha o las ofertas de otras bebidas y tuve que ir hasta la que pagar ya que de lo contrario habría tenido que esperar aún más. Básico pero limpio interior.

Mammalena ha convertido en mi lugar favorito para comer en Portsmouth! Simplemente la mejor comida para su dinero. He estado yendo aquí por lo menos una vez por semana durante los últimos seis meses y que nunca decepciona. La familia italiana propietaria del restaurante, son encantadores, cálido y acogedor. La comida, sencilla pero deliciosa. Bien merece la actual clasificación que tiene en TripAdvisor.

Love the food here, the hot chocolate here is the best around Portsmouth. The place decoration is excellent and homely, and the staff is really lovely. Most of all, the price is so great!

He estado luchando tanto tiempo en encontrar un restaurante donde comer comida italiana pero y finalmente me pareció!

Had the best take away pizza...palma ham, rocket and chilli...the best pizza I've tasted in a long time. The bolognese pasta with a lovely cheese topping was to die for, this take out tasted better than most itilian restaurants I've been too. Delicimo!

I've heard lots of good things about this place so thought I'd give it a try as I love italian pizza it's was amazing a really thin crust as I like it the tomato base was the best I've ever tasted and the pasta was great too a little bit small portion but really tasty can wait to go back the only down fall is u have to park quite far away

It's so hard to find Italian food abroad that is both good quality and good price! Then I found this amazing place where the variety of dishes is huge and you experience the quick service of a fast food but just with healthy and delicious Italian food. Definetly gonna come back again to try some other meals from the nice and warm Italian family that owns it. Give it a try!

I was in Portsmouth for work and I had heard about this place thanks to the internet and facebook , being a lover of Italian food I've found everything I ate delicious , especially the Piadizza which may be accompanied with a nice plate of pasta ! I had lunch there for the entire period of stay in pompey and was satisfied .I recommend it to all those people who want to eat so good and genuine food served by a friendly and welcoming Italian family in a friendly and relaxing place...compliments to the chef that I have had the pleasure to know !I hope to return soon!

Es difícil para un italiano para encontrar un restaurante decente en el extranjero. En general, la mayoría de los así llamados "restaurantes italianos" que he estado, resultó ser una auténtica decepción para mí. Como una regla si me carbonara de orden y me sirven pasta con crema pancetta y sé que hay algo malo. Eso no sucedió en Mammalena que es sin duda, el único restaurante italiano en Portsmouth. Aunque puede haber una "comida rápida" orientado, esto sólo refleja en el precio y no la calidad de la comida, que es de nivel muy alto. Definitivamente recomendado.

Friendly service and very informative, cuisine from the North of italy had some good recommendations from the waitress, the food was excellent and freshly made. the pizzas were of a very high standard with a nice thin base. there was a large group of italians dining there which is a good indicator of the quality of the food, would definitely return.

I had heard so many good things about this place both on trip advisor and Facebook and as a lover of Italian food I was dying to try it. We ordered two different pasta dishes and two different cassone for delivery and all dishes arrived warm within 45mins even tho they did have some trouble locating us. Upon tasting the dishes both me and my partner found them all to be bland and pretty tasteless is wasn't horrible but very much on the average side. I love carbonara but there version tasted nothing like my favourite Italian dish and my partners sausage and potato cassone had not a piece of sausage in sight but more a minced sausage paste?! I will be sticking to sapranos in future! We ended up leaving most of it, defiantly not worth the £25 and I was so looking forward to some good Italian food :(

We came here for dinner and I can say that we were not disappointed. You can't really get more Italian than this. The decor is great and the atmostphere relaxed. The food was excellent. I had the Tirolo Cassoni with smoked ham from the mountains of Italy. As they opereate a boutique from in here too, selling Italian cheeses, cold cuts and fresh piadas, the freshness of ingredients are guaranteed. Overall this was a great dining experience and we will definitely be returning. Next time I am sure we will leaving with something from the boutique too.

Visiting family in North End, we went to Mamma Lena for a spot of lunch and were all suitably impressed by the cuisine on offer. 3 of us dined and had different meals, all of which were top notch. The fact we had a ten week baby in a pram with us was not a problem in the slightest , would have to say that ordering a sweet was a mistake, as we had already eaten enough ! The sweets were all fine btw. ;) Heartily recommend this place to lovers of Italian food.

As locals we don't eat out very often but this is one place I'm glad we tried. It is run by Italians who intend to only use their home areas cooking, not some Anglicised version: and it works. Both my wife and I were very pleased with the food presented to us for a reasonable price. Great interior design. Very warm welcome and assistance in choosing an authentic Italian meal. Service was a bit slow but having just opened we put this down to getting into the swing of things. Enjoyed our meal.

Had lunch here the other day after our son recommended it. The proprietors are a real Italian family, very welcoming and friendly. The piazza is really great. Very, very thin crispy crust with generous and very tasty toppings and very reasonable prices. Also any combination of pastas and toppings. Will be back. Also do takeaway.

Very enjoyable meal. Food was perfect and staff very friendly and helpful. Especially loved the piadizza and garlic bread.

Service is slow and unorganised the menu print is so small you will need a magnifying glass when I mentioned this I was told a lot of people have mentioned this.We ordered pizza chips and saladPizza arrived then chips five minutes later and then salad arrived as desert

This is a great Italian restaurant! The food was amazing in an intimate setting.The menu selection was very good. Piadizza with stracchino cheese, parma ham and rocket is a wonderful experience: nice crust & fresh cheese and toppings.Perfect location for lunch or dinner.Definitely I will return!!!

What a find! I'm not sure if I want to call it a Fast Food place, more of a lovely little Cafe that happens to make Fresh food at a very nice tempo.Bright and clean with modern decor, if you love Italian food, you will go mad for Mammalena. A real family operation and they are so friendly and happy to help you navigate the authentic menu.I can definitely recommend a visit, and I am definitely going to be a regular here.

This place is just fantastic, food is genuine and tasty and the owners are very friendly! Finally a place where you can actually eat italian food the same way you wuold eat it in Italy. Delivery is available and if you want to go and eat in the restaurant you'll find that this is nice and clean. Staff will make you feel welcome. I highly recommend Mammalena! Go and you will not be disappointed!

The food at Mammalena is excellent value for money. We have eaten in at the restaurant and had a delivery and both times the food has been lovely. Friendly people and nice décor in the place too, highly recommended!

Italian fast food at it's best! Food is delicios and owners are always smiling and make you feel welcome !The only downside is the location and also they're a bit slow in the kitchen but food is def. worth waiting for .Heard a dessert menu is coming up so will be paying another visit very soon!

My first impression of Mammalena upon walking inside looking for a quick bite is that it seems like just another fast food outlet, but I could not have been more wrong! Upon inspecting the menu I was intruiged to see many new types of Italian foods which I had never heard of before... Cassoni, Piadina, La Piada etc... thankfully the friendly Italian guy explained to me what each were and helped me to decide.I ordered a Cappuccino and a Mozzarella and tomato Piadizza which is like a pizza with tasty crepe-like bread. For the price it was large and delicious and for only three quid. I was also hugely impressed by the coffee, one of the best cups I have had in England.It turns out that all the ingredients (besides the fresh vegetables) are imported from Southern Italy. The authenticity of the food coupled with the genuine pride shown by the Italian owners in making and letting people enjoy the cuisine of their home country truly puts Mammalena head and shoulders above any fast food eatery I have ever tried. Infact, I think calling it 'fast food' is a major disservice. So if you are looking for some top quality but good value Italian food, I don't think you can do better then Mammalna's. Highly recommended... and I have not even mentioned their cakes ;)

If you are around North End and want to treat yourself with real Italian food and coffee, cooked by Italians, pay a visit at Mamma Lena. We tried their "ravioli with ricotta and spinach" with real ragu' ( in English "bolognese") on the top. Wonderful! And the coffee! Useless to say that these ravioli were so nice that they didn't make home: we just had them in the car! The place is refurbished with the unmatchable Italian taste: they put some "scolapasta" and "graters" as ceiling lamps!
