We were pleasantly surprised, this was so good and such a great dessert. We had the ice cream in the soft sweet bun roll, the ice cream was creamy and cold and the bun roll was slightly warm and sweet. Great combination of flavors and textures. Would definitely go here again. Just misses 5 stars because it's a bit overpriced for what it is, but I suppose that's London for you.

I stopped by Mamason's for an afternoon pick-me-up. There were many enticing options on the menu, but I decided to get the one that I see most often splashed across social media, the ube bilog. This is an ice cream sandwich featuring bright purple ube ice cream stuffed inside a soft and sweet milk bun and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. Honestly, it was so much better than I expected! The ice cream itself was fantastic, not too sweet and utterly creamy. The milk bun was soft inside yet firm enough to keep its structure. The browned exterior of the bun gave it a nice sweetness as well. Although I'd be happy to sample other menu items, I'm not sure I could sway myself from getting another ube bilog on a future visit. It checked all the boxes for me! SO GOOD!

On a recent visit to London, we asked a London centric friend to suggest Asian dessert places, he listed places we had been to in the past (Candy Café for example), but one name was new to us - Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream. Filipino desserts. Now, we've had Filipino snack/dessert places in Newcastle before, but they've never lasted long, and were frankly disgusting, but having seen on social media the attraction Mamasons gets, we knew we had to visit. We walked by the one near (in?) Chinatown one evening, but the queue was substantial, so we left it and came back another day, the queue was still long(ish) but we decided to wait it out. There is some seating inside, but the chances of you getting a seat is slim. That said, because I walk with a stick these days, a couple, who were nearly finished anyway, hurried their meal, and let us sit. They wouldn't take "no" for an answer. Anyway, sat down, it hit me that the place isn't exactly clean, but that's probably due to the sheer volume of customers each and every day. We have McDonald's here which are absolutely filthy thanks solely to customers. Staff can't be constantly cleaning I guess. We decided on the classic Halo Halo dessert, and when staff were finished preparing it, we had ourselves a plastic cup, that was heavy with all manner of goodies inside. Some it it I can't even begin to describe without the aid of Google. Essentially a Halo Halo is a traditional Filipino dessert fully layered with stuff like strings of coconut, red bean, green jellies (of dubious origin or flavour), evaporated milk, shaved ice (lots of it), leche flan, a wafer straw thingy, a dollop of ube ice cream along with some Oreo biscuit crumbs. and cornflakes. And yes I did copy from the website and changed things juuust slightly so examiners won't penalise me. This concoction was frankly amazing. It was delicious, each layer adding a different set of flavours and textures, and you are left sated (with brain freeze if you are not careful). Now, we enjoyed it so much, that we visited their Westfield location, which, thankfully, was far cleaner, with friendly staff offering suggestions. Here we had a bilog (ube ice cream sandwich) which was absolutely delicious, along with a drink, which I can't remember what it was, but it was equally tasty. These are top tier desserts. Get to it.

OVERRATED!!! Not worth your money or the hype!!! £7,50 for a cold, soggy, tasteless bun filled with average ice cream. Toasted? Forget about it!!! Ordering and waiting time? Less than a minute so can’t blame timing… not recommended!!!

The ube milkshake is delicious but I was disappointed that after a few sips, the remaining was cream which is a shame for the price. Great place for desserts/drinks but would benefit from reviewing the milkshake/whipped cream ratio (more than 50%of the drink).

🔻 Tugging on my nostalgic heartstrings is Mamason's "dirty ice cream", a chic dessert parlour in multiple London locations. "Dirty ice cream" referring to ice cream sold in the streets in the Philippines with various, simple flavours at affordable prices. 🔻 Price - ££ For a dessert place it is on the mid range side of things, wont break the bank. 🔻 I had: Bilog (Ube) - Ice cream scooped enclosed in Pandesal, typical Filipino sweet bread, topped with powdered sugar. 🔻 Food: Anything Ube nowadays is delicious, but Mamasons is one of the first places in London to popularise this flavour. They offer a variety of other desserts such as halo-halo, Brownies and Donuts. 🔻 Ambience/Service - Solely basing off the leicester square branch, They're BUSY in there all the time with queues stretched to outside, so its understandable that the staff seem hyper focused on delivery/service rather than ambience. Chic Decor. 🔻 Summary: 4/5 Great for the nostalgic hit, unfortunately their busiest branch has very limited seating but the Bilog and Halo-Halo are fantastic! 🔻 Social: ► Instagram: Selwoodeats ► TikTok: Selwoodeats

Despite the long queues, the service is efficient. I highly recommend the guanabana and calamansi ice cream, with just the right amount of sweetness and tangy bitterness. Guanabana flavour is a rare find here and truly brings back some nostalgic memories of the soursop slushie that I used to have throughout my childhood from a bakery in Malaysia. It is interesting to finally see calamansi more widely used across London in the recent years, in a variety of cocktails and desserts - it’s zesty and refreshing!

Same with many people who visits there, my wife loves the halo halo. We ordered her favourite and I ordered the bun with ube ice cream. We often go to this place to get ube ice cream and try other desserts. It's a bit pricey but sometimes the craving wins. Most of the time we visit, it's packed. The place is small. There are a few small chair where people can sit and have their dessert. I noticed they added milkshake to their menu and few hot drinks which is good. Might have to try those sometime. The halo halo is always great especially when the whether is hot. It's topped with ube ice cream and bit of leche flan which are favourite desserts in the Philippines.

I'm so happy that a café is offering halo halo! The ratios of the ingredients could be improved, though. My piece of leche flan was so tiny that it disappeared. Instead I got a too big amount of cornflakes, which kinda disturbed the overall taste. Also too little of the coconut strings and jellies. But still delicious!

Myself, Husevic and Xavier were looking for a palate cleanser after a diabolical devouring of Dim Sum and cocktails at the Opium bar in Chinatown. We were dilly-dallying at some two bob waffle hut, queuing for guaranteed disappointment and a waste of an insulin surge, when Xavier and I took notice of something Husevic was muttering. “Mama….Mamas…Mamaso…..MAMASONS! We HAVE to go to MAMASONS!” Xavier and I didn’t have a scooby about what the man was talking about but Husevics conviction alone was enough to persuade us. We bailed on the waffle bin and set sail for this Mamasons. The feeling I had when I walked into this place captures what I love about London. The ease with which you can stumble into an establishment dripping with excellence. A joint just sitting there basking in it’s own power, with the casual arrogance of a sultan being fed baklava and grapes. The setting is an intimate, packed cuboid with a full spectrum of bright, glowing colours. It’s so visually striking and somewhat unreal, somewhat virtual. Lucy in the Sky with …Desert. The scran? It’s Filipino ice cream & sorbet, served alongside baked goods, shakes & coffee. We all opted for the bilog, a toasted Filipino milk bun filled with ice cream and covered in icing sugar. Dribble.. It was delicious. It was scrumptious. I will be coming again. I will tell all my nearest and dearest. Yet more importantly it was the experience. The buzz of the crowd meeting their saccharine needs. The unique flavours. A little capsule of creativity my trio and I had tripped into. It’s good to be alive. Peace and love

A little tucked away but once found, you are greeted with a sleek, modern Korean restaurant with polite staff. There is somewhat a feeling of elegance, thoughtful and maturity with the decor and utensils with hand wipes and accents of branding. Very attention staff where they are readily available to help flip you with your kbbq experience, be this grilling, flipping or changing the plates. Built in table grills with individual extractors, you know this place is set up for Korean bbq. BBQ sets allow you have a platter of things that are not individually available with the marinades simply tasty to compliment the dipping sauces. Everywhere seems to charge a bit of an arm for lettuce which is a must have for kbbq so we obliged. Although the fried rice portion is small, it packs such a garlicky taste that I wish it was bigger.
