Chotto Matte in City of London, Westminster

We've had a lovely experience last week at Chotto mate The Ebi tempura and the yellow tail sashimi were the stand out as well as Laurent's service, friendly yet professional.

Always have a great time here. the drinks were perfect the food was tasty and our waiter Franz was fantastic, he had us laughing all night.

A very lush dining experience from the moment I stepped into the restaurant. The vibes were very cool and welcoming, and our waiter was incredibly helpful, taking his time to explain the dishes and the restaurant’s sharing concept, which made the meal feel more interactive and enjoyable. The food was beautifully presented and the service was excellent throughout. I’ll definitely be back!

We went with a group of friends and everyone had the brunch menu. I chose the vegetarian brunch menu and was told they would swap the non-vegan items to make it fully vegan (was later charged £6 extra for this without being informed, which was annoying because the desserts were changed to just plain sorbet, which definitely takes less effort than the original desserts that were on the menu, plus the menu including meat being cheaper than a vegan menu rubs me the wrong way) Anyway, the starters were definitely the stand out dishes - the lychee ceviche made me rate this higher than I would have otherwise, it was fantastic. The mains and desserts were ok, nothing memorable. For £80/p it was not worth it, but the lychee ceviche is something I would go back for on it’s own. Please make a better vegan dessert option. Edit: I emailed them as they told me to in the response to this review and I never received a reply.

Food was cold and we had to beg for the waiters attention. One lady with black curly hair told us that she can’t take our order as that’s not her section. Reception Manager downstairs was super lovely! The only one thing that was pleasurable to see. Very very poor service.

I been many times in Toronto branch and enjoyed so so much. Gave a try to London branch…. Service was very poor. Edamame came overcooked and took it longer than the food to arrive. All night and the day after I was feeling sick and having tummy ache.

This is the second time I’ve visited and found changes to the setup. I’ve been here around ten times before, and the set menu, which I used to consider the best, has been completely altered. The seating arrangement isn’t ideal—I was bumped into three times while just sitting. Genuinely used to be my favorite restaurant, but now it feels rather ordinary. I’d suggest reverting to the original setup and menu. Genuinely

Always a fantastic meal here. Always recommend the Padron Peppers and Yuzu martini! It’s not cheap but for a special meal, absolute fantastic!

Food and service were brilliant. We went in for dinner with a 1 year old and the staff went out of their way to help and make sure we had what we needed. The atmosphere is great, good decor and music adds to the upmarket feel. We had the taser menu for 4 adults and we're all fit to burst at the end. Great presentation, flavours and variety.

That mushroom truffle rice is insane. Great food all round and with one of my friends being vegetarian, they were really pleased with the options available. Great evening thank you.

I had a very nice date here with my girlfriend over the weekend. I didn't know what to expect because i’m a bit fussy when it comes to food but i have to say i was blown away by everything. From the second we opened the door we were very well looked after. The service was excellent, id like to thank our waitress Anujin and waiter Sam personally because they were just on the ball that evening. All our wants and needs were met and the food… i have no words for how good it was.. i had the ribs and they were so tender and full of flavor. I highly recommend Chotto Matte to anyone looking for excellent food in an aesthetically beautiful restaurant. We will definitely come back again. Thank you again Sam and Anujin.

My partner and I had an Absolutely incredible experience at chotto matte here in soho, the atmosphere and mood was amazing , perfect for a date if anyone needs a good recommendation, the food was tasty & definitely top tier !! Everyone , including the waiter sam & both Waitress kristina and anujin were very accommodating and made sure everything was alright & perfect for us. Everyone was very professional and polite, would definitely come back for more. ❤️

I was quite disappointed with the service. Lots of being told what was possible “you’ll get the dishes not all together, this is sharing”, very little question or attention to what our group wanted. Also quite pushy waiter on suggesting that more dishes should be ordered, which of course then went uneaten as we had too much.

We had fabulous time on Monday for my birthday! everything was well executed, from food to ambiance to the staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant, I hope when you go MICHAEL and RUBI are working!!! Michael was just what a top restaurant needs as its front house staff, he was very attentive and made me feel welcome before I even removed my coat. As for Rubi, if you're lost to what to eat her recommendation were spot on! She was calm and spoke well, with great detailed to what was on the menu- this is not your usual waitress but truly one that is passionate, friendly and delivered a top-quality service. Drinks were refreshing and dessert (WOW)... Overall, Chotto Matte SOHO is a place to be: simply a memorable experience!!!

Whilst the service and friendliness of the staff was top notch, one of the let downs was how long the food took to arrive and each dish separately. We ended up eating in stages which was very odd. The biggest let down was the that everything but one of our 6 dishes arrived luke warm which has resulted in me having a food poisoning not long afterward. Full regrets in not saying something at the time and sending the dishes back but with how long it took for the food to arrive we were concerned it would take much longer or they would just warm it up again making it more potentially dangerous to eat. The ultimate saving grace for the venue are the cocktails, they are excellent.

this place is a solid 10/10 from start to finish! The ambiance was vibrant and modern, setting the perfect tone for an enjoyable meal. The food was exceptional – every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavors was spot-on. Our waitress, Ruby, was fantastic! She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we felt looked after throughout the meal. The manager also stopped by to check in on us, which was a lovely touch. They were both so accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience possible. I highly recommend trying their signature cocktails

I took my best friend out for a lunch on 8 November 2024. I have been to Chotto Matte in Soho before, but it was my best friend's first time and he was very impressed by food, service and atmosphere. We were served and really well looked after by waitress Lily who was just amazing, friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. The slow cooked beef she recommended was out of this world and we ordered another portion right after we finished the first one. It's a must try! If you are in Soho, you should definately try Chotto Matte.

Recommended by our daughter, who lives in London, this was an excellent birthday treat. The surrounding area is very pleasant, the welcome was friendly and efficient. The service was super and the food was very good and interesting. My only quibble would be the high prices of drinks compared to the food. e.g. £7 for a bottle of Asahi or £14 for a small glass of wine. Otherwise, we really enjoyed it

We loved this restaurant!! The food, drinks, vibes, service were all excellent. When you dine here you automatically get a complimentary Pisco Sour which is so fun. I switched to Lychee martinis next which were so good. For dinner, we had the Yellowtail sashimi which is a MUST ORDER (I would have eaten 10 plates), otoro sashimi, gyoza, asado de tira (so tender!!), wood fired brussel sprouts, mochi and passion fruit crème brûlée (incredible!!). Everything was so delicious, we will be back!!

Amazing place in Soho discovered via friends, the internal design is detailed and very niche. We have been welcomed by Franz who was super kind, he was very fast and gave us a table outside with a warming lamp. Amazing cocktails with a really edgy signature. Very recommend

Pretty disappointing day at Chotto matte soho - got a voucher for the chef experience (£330) so expected/ hoped it to be fantastic but sadly was pretty underwhelming. Our seating was in the main window to make the place look busier than it was between two work groups. Our chef came to us before we ordered and drinks so had our first course before a drink. We had 6 courses (not 8 advertised) which were tasty but tiny apart from the sushi platter. We each had 2 drinks each (2 house wine, 1 beer & 1 cocktail) which cost £65. Oh and 2 x waters for £12! When the bill came I noticed they had added 15% service which was £70! For 2 people on a quiet afternoon was just insane. We won’t be back & we won’t be recommending here to anyone. Shame as it was such a lovely thoughtful present from my friends.

I have been to this restaurant a few times in the last couple of weeks, the staff and management couldn't be more accommodating. Luis the young Sommelier is terrific and Zac one of the senior servers is also fantastic. The food is as good as any Japanese style restaurant and the Peruvian twist makes it special. Thanks Luis and Zac, keep up the good work. Also, great DJ. Having just eaten here again last night, Anujin was an Excellent Hostess and server. Thank you!

I ordered the lunch tasting menu, staff were so accommodating as it was my birthday and were extremely attentive throughout my time there. Food was amazing, the quality of the fish was excellent compared to other london restaurants. The tasting menu was extremely filling yet exciting as there were so many courses defo recommend!

Chotto Matte never fails to deliver. The food is incredible and so are the drinks. We were served by Franz on this occasion, who gave us the best service. This is one of the restaurants in London I always keep coming back to.
