Stubbled across Mama Jinny's in a side street. Pleasantly simple décor and great food reasonably priced Pleasant staff I would recommend to anyone visiting Margate

If you're lucky... You'll have a nice meal, tasty and as good as expected... But on a bad day, you'll regret you came here. Some of our food (beef) was uneatable, we made complaint as they we couldn't eat it but although the waitress was very nice and understanding, the management didn't react, or come to the table to discuss.. Every dish was charged full price, very disappointing dinner 😔 Hence would not recommend due to lack of consistency in quality ingredients.

Lovely authentic Thai food fairly priced, friendly staff, best to book in advance as it can get busy. They also do take out.

My friend and I ate at Mama Jinny for a late dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very tasty, hot and plentiful (I had a duck dish, lots of meat and delicious), the staff were polite and provided quick service. I would recommend!

What can I say about mamas , fantastic service ,wonderful atmosphere and well, the food ? just try ,, an absolutely banging array of dishes that are cooked to perfection and certainly not tasted before this experience 👌I certainly will not be going anywhere else again,,,, 20 out of 10 mama 👊

This is the best Food, let alone Thai Food. Been a customer for over 4 years and it is a taste, smell, atmosphere of Thailand. Staff are friendly and helpful always smiling 😃 love it!!!!

Enjoyed the meal immensely. It's a bijou restaurant so it can be a little restricted in space. The staff were very pleasant. Prices, with some drinks, are about £35-£40 per person.

Delicious food and great service! We had the pad Thai, Thai green curry and satay chicken. It was all freshly cooked and tasted great.

Enjoyed the Thai dinner at Mama Jinny's! Friendly and welcoming staff, dishes freshly prepared. Love (kway teow) special rice noodle soup with king prawns, bean sprouts, garnished with roast garlic, coriander and peppers. My husband enjoyed the GANG KIEW WAN (Thai green curry) with chicken cooked in coconut milk, green curry paste with bamboo shoots, aubergine and fresh Thai herbs. And the best dessert ever is the MANGO & STICKY RICE! Thank you Mama Jinny for such a lovely and unforgettable Thai dinner!

I’ve been to Thailand many times and have eaten a lot of the traditional food, I have also tried many Thai places in the uk and have always been disappointed, Mama Jinny was recommended to me by a friend and I was not disappointed, if you’re looking for amazing traditional Thai food this is the place!

My family is addicted to Mama Jinnys. I've had Thai food in many places around the world and her pad thai is out of this world. There is just something so silky and magic with the noodles. And the seafood is spectacular. The deep fried crispy seabass and sticky rice combo is like Muhammad Ali in his prime: it will knock you out. So good. I will miss this lovely restaurant when visit to Margate ends. Till then I will spend as much time at MJ's.

We had a great meal here at short notice, a group of six. The staff were brilliant, efficient, friendly and helpful. The food was well cooked and very tasty, several people in our group said that this would henceforth be their go to Thai restaurant. I agree with the above and would add my recommendation.

This restaurant is fantastic! The food is delicious and the service was excellent. We came in with a very large group and didn’t have a booking but they managed to seat us all and served us very fast and the food came out quickly too! I can highly recommend this place.

Had a wonderful evening here with my husband for our wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed by a very polite, respectful young man. The food was absolutely stunning, and cooked fresh. Looking forward to returning.

We found these guys In lock down via just eat. Now living in Margate we frequent here often, food always consistently good, always lovely service. We will certainly be coming here again and again! Really disappointed with the amount of solid food in the curries. Mostly sauce with a miniscule portion of meat. The rice is barely enough for 2 portions. The mixed starter for 2 is rip off.

Food poisoning from prawn Thai green curry

Ordered from here the Thai green which was very watery, a few hours later went to bed feeling slightly sick which grew worse over time and had a horrible night's sleep, presumably something was off in the food served. Wasn't a pleasant experience which is a shame as judging on the reviews the place is usually good.

Surprised by how friendly Margate was, this place did not disappoint. Greeted by a friendly young man, we decided to take some random items of the menu, and all of them were surprisingly good! From shrimp dim sum to traditional Pad Thai, all of them were amazing! This mama knows her roots and her cooking is really heart warming. Only thing is; the music is kind of hysterical, but it sure adds to the ambiance!

An excellent experience. Good food. Nothing to complain about. I really enjoyed my Chicken Pad Thai; loads of flavour, spice and good portion. The service was very good and was even asked about allergies rather than to rely solely on the menu, which is good attention from our server. I would recommend it here. Good food, good service, clean and great atmosphere. No complaints at all. Also...pricing was reasonable (similar to what you would expect at a casual dining place like Nandos, or Wagamammas)....plus loads of vegans options (which is why we chose it)

Ordered via just eat 1 hour 30 mins ago, I called due to the app saying "enjoy your food" rung and explained it hadn't arrived...owner explained she'll ring the driver. He pulled up minuets later. Then unfortunately dropped a luke warm to basically cold dinner off. Really upsetting as I was so looking forward to my treat and now equally hungry as its so late. The owner was very sweet and apologised when she rung back but equally you dont expect to spend £17 for cold food and a 1.5 hour wait for a singular dish of chicken and stir fry veg when I am in the same town.

2nd visit whilst working locally. Food and service excellent as before. Proper home made Thai food. A couple of beers as well, very pleasant

Food was nice, missing a little on flavour. Good menu selection. Service was not great, when taking our order waitress left to talk to someone half way through my sentace and another had her big fluffy coat on. It was 15 degrees outside, very warm in the restaurant. Shame I had high hopes.

Tod man khao pod (sweetcorn fritters) were delicious and had a lovely kick to it. The chicken satay was succulent and very easy to eat with the peanut sauce! The vegan massasman curry with tofu was comforting! I would have loved more tofu in it but really enjoyed the creamy coconut, tender potatoes and crunchy cashew nuts The staff are so friendly here too

Had lunch here on a very hot September day - delicious Som Tom Papaya salad and Glass Noodle salad with prawns followed by gorgeous Banana Fritter served with honey and ice-cream. Staff were lovely and restaurant was cool and inviting.

It’s one of the most cleanest restaurant we’ve been in! Tables, floors, toilet were all sparkling clean!🤩 foods were very delicious. We were in Phuket last month, but Mama Jinny’s “sticky rice magnolia” was the best. We didn’t like the ones we ate in Phuket. That’s hilarious but also normal because staffs were Thai. i forgot to take photos of the foods we ate as we directly swallowed them :) As we were not hungry then i could think to take a pic of magnolia desert. I can’t recommend enough, we will definitely go again. 💗💗💗

Second visit, this time with friends. Service was super friendly again and the food is soooo tasty. We ordered mixed starters to share which were delicious and then a few curries to share too. All so flavourful and reasonable priced. We will be back next time we are in Margs!

We ordered from their website tonight and it took over 1.5 hours to arrive, 40 minutes later than they had said it would arrive despite being 1 mile away. When it arrived there was no cashew nuts in the chicken & cashew nuts (they admitted was their mistake), the beef in the gaeng massaman was inedible and it didn't taste like it normally does (we've lived in Thailand for over 40 years). The Tom kha was tasty but that was the only saving grace. When we kept trying to call to ask where the delivery was they all of a sudden couldn't hear us and when I asked for a refund for the incorrect dish they hung up on me. I wouldn't normally write a review but want others to be aware as was a real disappointment especially since we only have takeaway for special occasions.

Another really disappointing take away 😩 cold starters and hardly any chicken on chicken satay skewers, sticky rice ridiculous and like cement and main dishes watery and oily! So sad as wasted nearly £50 on a birthday meal for my husband - ruined our night 🥲

Massaman curry was weak and thin, felt like it was deliberately watered down. Still tasty, but not what you would expect. Sides were okay.

Great Thai food freshly cooked to order, we had a really great selection of food. We are both vegetarian and my wife is allergic to onion and garlic, they could not be more helpful saying we could select most items and they could adapt it as it was cooked fresh. Even though it was busy the food came out quickly and it packed with flavour. Would go here regularly if we lived closer!

Visited this place with no expectations on my visit to Margate. I walked out with a pleasant experience of good food and nice hospitality. In all yummy food and speedy service.

I was so looking forward to eating at this restaurant. As I visit Margate regularly. I arrived on my own and was greeted by a very friendly waitress. Sadly the food or service did not meet my expectations. I ordered a Phanaeng chicken curry, the sauce was thin and flavourless, and the chicken was poorly seasoned. I had mixed vegetables which was swimming in soy sauce and partly cooked depending on the variety of vegetable. I was the only person in the restaurant and none of the Staff thought to ask if I was enjoying my food. So I called a member of staff over to ask for the bill and politely paid. Very disappointed.

Visited yesterday with a large group of work friends, spur of the moment. We needed separate bills which they were happy to do. Staff very friendly and pleasant. Food was really nice and pretty authentic. Atmosphere was pleasant. Unconnected to the restaurant, the street is very narrow with no parking but just round the corner there is plenty of on street parking

We were a party of 10 and all really enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. There was a wide range of dishes that pleased everyone from vegan to carnivore. Service was just lovely. Excellent, very fresh food. Overall highly recommend.

I had an evening meal here in Jan 2023. I had vegetable tempura which was ok - quite crisp and hot but not as good as I have had. Portion size was good. Then I had red curry with sticky rice. The curry was ok, nothing special, but the sticky rice was disgusting - dry and clumped together and didn’t even loosen when soaked in the curry sauce. It was quite inedible. When I complained another portion was brought which was almost as bad, but by that time I had finished the curry. I won’t be returning.

Brilliant restaurant. I was a bit hesitant before going because I'm not really a fan of Thai food, but this place has converted me!! The food was soooo good. My partner said hers was the best Pad Thai she's ever had. The staff were very friendly and food came very quickly. Felt homely in there. Would 100% recommend!

“Trust” and “care” are everything when ordering a take away. When you "trust" and they don’t take "care", you are left at home £30plus worse off, for a very disappointing evening, ruined by what you don’t want but paid for regardless (meant to be chili chicken but, no chili, the other was chicken with rice bur my wife got noodles but, eat it in despair. Mine? more like dry, bland chicken flakes). This is the second time for us. So, on this event, I re-boxed it and returned one when they next re-opened for business. My polite complaint in the completely empty restaurant, was met with two confrontational staff supporting each other from the kitchen, neither of them with a hint of apology, just repeating "Well what do you want me to do". I suggested a refund or replacement, perhaps another evening. With their reaction you would think I had used bad language. I explained that the soup was lovely, so I am not including that. Nevertheless, I got a knit-picking argument over only "one meal" not two, as if I was at a Marrakech market stall, arguing with a penny-pinching trader. They just couldn't understand or accept that the two family meals were wrong and the evening, was entirely spoilt. Eventually, they conceded, but just £9 for one of the meals and two five pound notes were unceremoniously and very begrudgingly handed over. However, they couldn’t do that without sniping at me as the customer and victim of the their trust failure, by a childish accusation that my returning the meal must be because I had had a drink. No understanding of their responsibility or that occasionally it is right to return a meal not ordered. Disgraceful behaviour towards a customer and not a word of apology. Only accusation, as if I had done something wrong, from these two rude, argumentative and petty-minded staff. This restaurant demonstrated to me that they couldn’t care less, what they give you for over £30, once the take-away goes out of their door. And good luck if you thing you should return it and explain. They can’t cope when it is rightly is returned as not what was ordered. I say; customers should take the trouble to return take away meals more often. perhaps then, proprietors will take better care and learn something. The shame is, when you are sitting in for the meal, they have to deal with the complaint which is obvious and in front of them. They simply don't care, about things like “trust” and a returned complaint over their take-away mistakes. Argument and rude rebuttal as a begrudging excuse for having to hand back any part of your £30 for what they got wrong, is not an excuse. Three past meals wrong in our case , we complained this last time only and it was treated like this. The answer then, is simple; don’t “trust”. There are plenty of other wonderful options in Margate (such as "Pans") far more caring and deserving of our custom. You can order with confidence from polite owners who, it goes wrong after trusting them with your evening meals (not happened yet in 8 years), would move heaven and earth to correct it. Argument and rudeness, to try and hold some of your money back after the event, is unacceptable even on a market stall. We were supporting local residents always offering high praise here, but loyalty has its limits when faced with this treatment. Never again for us at this place. There is no excuse for being this selfish, uncaring rude and, foolishly short sighted. A great shame but, well worth walking a few hundread yards elsewhere to avoid that experience a fouth time.

It is small but cosy, wheelchair access is possible and there is toilet for disabled. I found this by chance whilst walking around the old town, I'll definitely be back.

Mama Jinny Thai Kitchen is Thai comfort food at its finest. Eating here was definitely one of the best decisions we made while we were in Margate. The place was clean and well-lit. The decor transported us to Thailand. :) It's about five minutes walk from Margate Main Sands. The staff were friendly and attentive. They also reminded me of family-owned restaurants back at home where you can just feel so comfortable. The food was just absolutely wonderful. They did not skimp on the ingredients. Our Tom Yum seafood soup was full of yummy seafood and mushrooms. The Pork Pad Khing was also very tasty and the vegetables were cooked perfectly and not soggy at all. We also had mango with sticky rice for dessert. Now this dessert is a definite must-try in any Thai restaurant, especially at Mama Jinny. It was just so delectable. It was not overly sweet. Just the perfect way to end the meal. The only thing I was disappointed about was that I got too full too soon... I wanted to eat more and to try their other dishes. The price is reasonable for the quality of the food. This is now in our "Must Eat Here list" when in Margate

The Gang Dang and Gang Panang dishes are very creamy with coconut and you can request them to be extra spicy which is nice. The staff are friendly and they don't close mid afternoon. The portion sizes filling and larger especially compared to other local restaurants. The interior decor is nice too. I would recommend it.
