Mama Doreen's Emporium in Harrogate

Went with a friend for lunch and drinks. Lovely food and the place is decorated gorgeous. Our waitress Isobel made the experience even nicer as she was a delight.

The greeter seemed put out that we wanted only tea. On paying, the same individual quite unnecessarily made a point of this again. I don’t think we’ll bother going back!

I've been visiting Mama Doreen's for a few years and always have a lovely lunch or afternoon tea. I decided to have my 60th birthday celebration there recently with 34 friends and family. I had paid for the party celebration traditional Aft Tea package which included a Prosecco or Nosecco on arrival, balloons, a sweetie bag and traditional Aft Tea with a plentiful selection of delicious sandwiches, quiche and cakes. The area of the cafe where we sat looked fabulous. Ian and the staff looked after us very well and everyone including myself had the best time. If you are looking to book Mama Doreen's for a celebration, you should have no hesitation in booking there.

Had afternoon tea bought as a gift , we were disappointed to be honest … we got it plonked on the table while other guests got a run down of what everything was they brought our pot of tea out 10 mins before the food so was cold by the time we came to drink it also they didn’t do any top ups of more tea .. we had to ask for hot water whilst ladies at the side of us was asked if they needed more tea style over substance

This is a very popular tea shop and cafe in the centre of Harrogate. Prebooking online or by phone is very important. Decor is lovely and the tea and cakes are delicious. Dietary requirements can be catered for when you prebook. This is a rare treat for someone with a milk allergy. Alcoholic drinks are also available. Service is normally very good, but was slow an inattentive during our latest visit which was a little disappointing.

Mama Doreen's in Harrogate. Coffee and plain scones were amazing. What was even better was the customer service and enthusiasm shown towards children. Would visit again due to the fantastic customer service. Didn't get the gentleman's name but the male members of staff are going above and beyond for the business!

I have been going to Mama Doreen’s for a while with my little boy. We love going and always feel so welcome. The food is delicious and my little boy loves all the attention he gets from Julie!

we had afternoon tea in Harrogate for my Aunty's 70th birthday here, and one word.. wow! beautiful arrangement and lots of choice! the staff were amazing, so friendly and bubbly and knowledgeable. the food was great! especially the cake selection. my aunty was treated to a cupcake with a candle and the staff sang happy birthday and it made her day. we can't wait for our next visit. We came to mama Doreen’s in Harrogate today from York for afternoon tea. We had a lovely time! We had been served by a lovely server called Grace who could not have been more helpful, she was so nice and very smiley and so patient with me and my mum who are very fussy eaters! Just had an amazing take away afternoon from Mama Doreens. I have been to the shop a couple of times for afternoon tea and it is fabulous. The decor and afternoon teas are amazing. My daughter and I decided we would try their take away as due to covid restrictions we could not eat in and it was not disappointing. It was so fresh and delicious. You even get the Yorkshire teabags too. Even though it was a takeaway there was no skimping on the fillings or the presentation. I have been to many places for afternoon tea and I honestly don’t think there is anywhere better than Mama Doreens.

A beautiful and very tasty afternoon tea. We have sampled afternoon tea at a number of other local establishments and this one one is the best! In addition to our afternoon tea, we had ordered takeaway afternoon tea for my daughter and her friends to have via a zoom party. It was really lovely and a perfect antidote to life in lockdown.

We received a home delivery of "Afternoon Tea" for 2 today 23/12/2020 which was sent by friends because we can't meet at Christmas. The food was very nicely presented and very good - and very filling. Really enjoyable.Would recommend it to anyone - can't wait until we can actually go to the emporium ourselves.

Myself and my friend have been regular visitors over the years to Mama Doreens in the old premises. We were looking forward to this excursion to the new location travelling from York to do so.We were going to have the afternoon tea at about £16 but noticed a more festive one on other tables. So we ordered this. Delightful savouries and plenty of sweet treats. When we went to pay our bill we nearly fell through the floor as it was £30 each. We expected £5 more each or £10 each which was pushing it but twice the price nearly of their other afternoon tea. Completely overpriced with no prosecco which you would expect for that price. Chocolate baubles off a xmas tree part of the sweets and not value fir money. So the whole 2 tier cake stand was £60. Sorry but complete exploitation. We all want cheering up in these times but not exploited for it. We will be back as what you offer is good quality and lovely staff and surroundings, but we will be sticking to the usual afternoon tea!

Popped in for a hot drink and a cake. The carrot cake was very nice and so were the hot chocolates. Although they were busy we were served swiftly and the staff were helpful.

The lady I spoke to was absolutely fantastic nothing was too much trouble and she was so sympathetic to my situation as myself and husband live abroad and are unable to celebrate with her due to these troubled times. We called in for a short rest stop whilst shopping as the shop looked so attractive from outside. They were very busy, but said they could take a table for 20 mins which was fine with us.The staff went above and beyond to rearrange table sittings so we could stay longer.I have never been anywhere with such friendly helpful staff, really made my day.Oh and yummy cup cakes too!!

Me and my wife booked for afternoon tea. We were welcomed by Lily who took our reservation and Christina was our waitress. The service was friendly, welcoming and professional. Fantastic morning spent kick starting our Halloween with a wonderful brunch, food was beautiful with fast service and all staff couldn’t do enough for us. The entertainment was amazing, the kids loved singing along and each character spent time interacting with each table making the whole experience very special.

Picked up a takeaway Halloween afternoon tea today as my youngest child is isolating.It was just what we needed to cheer us all up, beautifully presented even in the boxes and bags, not even Bozza’s announcement tonight could ruin the feeling of having full tummies from such delicious food! The kids loved having their “tea” in their little boxes with their bag of sweeties afterwards. Thank you so much, I can’t wait to sit in your lovely cafe again with someone who I don’t live with (no offence to my partner!). Oh and even my takeaway cappuccino that I got for the drive back home to Leeds was delicious!

We were excited to visit here after seeing their photos online. We ordered drinks to start, which seemed difficult for the staff to comprehend. Our food order, which was a simple panini and sandwich, took over 1 hour to arrive.The staff came across as rude and ignorant, and as the wait for our meal extended, we were ignored by the staff.Plenty of other places to explore in the local area, I would recommend supporting a smaller local business with staff that care about their customers.

We booked for coffee and cake. Felt very safe as temperatures taken, plenty of sanitiser and well spaced tables. Very clean loos. We had some great sandwiches, very well filled and fresh. Gorgeous vegan cupcakes and good coffee. Every member of staff was charming and helpful. We will be back!

My friend and I have been coming for the Christmas afternoon tea for the last few years now and when we saw the Halloween themed one could not resist! We were a little early for our booking but the staff made sure we had a safe space to wait and a menu to look over. As soon as our table was ready we were shown where to go and the lady apologised for the wait despite it being our fault! The food came quickly and the staff checked on us throughout to check everything was okay and if we needed anything else. The food was, as always, absolutely amazing! We’ve been coming here for the Christmas wonderland afternoon tea for the last 4 years and have never tried the Halloween one due to always being on holiday. Since we couldn’t go on holiday we thought we would try it out as we LOVE the Christmas one! It lived up to the high standards that Mama Doreen’s has! The staff were really friendly, attentive and catered to our every need. The waitress accidentally dropped a sandwich while carrying to our table but apologised and had already made the kitchen aware of this and arrived within minutes with new ones. I can not fault Mama Doreen’s or any of the staff. I really recommend a visit to this wonderful place! Looking forward to our 5th year for their Christmas wonderland afternoon tea in November! It is the first time I have visited since the place has moved to the new location. I have been several times to the original cafe and I have to say I preferred it there. The food was great as always but I found the new cafe to be less personal and more run like a chain. I felt we were being rushed out. We had only just started the desert section and the waitress came over asked us if we wanted a box to take out the rest. Also, we had just finished the savoury plate when the cake stand was promptly removed and the desert plate plonked on the table. I know these are strange times and things are done a little differently but I was put off going again. Disappointing as it was a birthday treat for a friend and it's always been a lovely experience previously.

Walking into the beautiful Mama Doreens we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. We ordered the Halloween themed afternoon tea which was amazing both to look at and to eat. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Mama Doreens gets it spot on & is a delight to visit.

Worst lunch ever ! Ordered two panini’s (cheddar and caramelised onion and Brie and cranberry) which took ages to arrive despite numerous requests to hurry up and when they arrived they both had bacon in them although no mention of this on menu. As neither of us eat meat we asked the waitress why they had bacon in them . She replied “they always come like that “ , despite this not being on the menu. We asked for replacements without bacon and waited another half hour before we were presented with a plate of soggy cheese sandwiches and one panini! The manageress eventually came over to say the kitchen had misunderstood the order and she had rushed this through ( so why did it take half an hour?). We eventually shared the panini which was ok but left the sandwiches which we hadn’t asked for. Although we didn’t have to pay we wasted over an hour and a half of our afternoon and had a stressful experience which we will not repeat at this restaurant again!

First visit here and most certainly won't be the last. We had a delightful afternoon tea and there was definitely alot more to eat than we originally thought, wow we were full. We pre booked for the gluten free option and this was delicious you couldn't tell the difference, I know how difficult it is to bake gluten free and the cakes and scones were just perfect. We also treated ourselves to a cocktail which were perfectly made, one of us asked for a cocktail that wasn't on the menu and the barman was happy to oblige, the whole visit was perfect every team member was friendly and professional, well done guys brilliant thank you

Just had to say that your takeaway tea made my elderly Mother’s Day. She’s been off her food and not interested in eating, but this certainly whetted her appetite. Whilst out at the vet with her cat she ate through the box of sandwiches and scone. It all looked wonderful and I’m so pleased that was well received and actually made her want to eat too. Had a super experience this morning at Mama Doreen's Emporium. 4 of us enjoyed a relaxing brunch along with lovely coffee/tea. We all had something different, one had warm cheese scone with bacon, one had toasted bagel with scrambled egg and ham, one had warm cheese scone with cream cheese and I had toasted bagel with scrambled egg and bacon all served with super small leaf salad, the portions were amazing there was so much scrambled egg and on mine loads of crispy bacon just DELICIOUS!Friendly staff, lovely and clean and social distanced tables.

I was judging a dog show & the society gave the judges a packed lunch from Mama Doreens. I’m gluten free & my lunch was delicious, there was a selection of sandwiches, some quiche, scone & clotted cream plus a selection on cakes. I can only imagine how good it must be to eat in house.

A lovely afternoon treat. Sandwiches that we ordered were well presented with a really nice salad garnish. Beautiful cupcakes, so many to choose from. I’d recommend the vanilla with a strawberry on top. We sat by the window, I did feel that staff members were making quite a fuss of everyone sat further back into the building. This meant that staff were not as readily available. Someone at my table joked that we were in the cheap seats and it did feel a little like that.

wanted to treat my mum to afternoon tea whilst staying in Harrogate and really glad a certain famous tearoom was fully booked because the afternoon tea here was utterly fabulous and mum said it was better than you know where !!

We came from afternoon tea and it was brilliant. The food was all really lovely and a good variety - the white chocolate meringue was a favourite. The setting is lovely. Excellent COVID compliance. We'll definitely come back!

I came here with my daughter as she was given a free afternoon tea voucher. I’m vegetarian and had a Selection of sandwiches,a Savoury scone and quiche . The cakes were amazing 4 cakes and a cream scone each. Absolutely delicious. Presentation lovely. We had wanted to Come here for ages as heard great things about mama doreen’s. We will be back. Thank you for great service and we felt very safe with the covid precautions which were in place. We had to buy some of the amazing looking cupcakes too and they were amazing .

WOW. This afternoon tea had me hooked from the 1st bite of my savory scone. It just got better from then, the different types of sandwich (bread, bagel, brioche and mini Yorkshire pudding) were so tasty. Then came the fruit scone light and delicious And finally the sweet treats mini chocolate cup cakes, raspberry and white chocolate pavlova, a delicious carrot cake. All the staff were helpful and attentive but not pushy. The atmosphere was very good and we didn't feel under pressure to leave even though it was after 5.Worth every penny and cheaper than a well know local rival. I don't eat strawberries but was still well catered for.

What a fantastic place, myself I have been before for lunch but my friends had never had the Mamma Ds experience before. It is hands down the best place for afternoon tea in this area. (Some other well known afternoon tea establishments could take note) From there excellent polite, professional service to there amazing value for money ( Afternoon tea with Prosecco £20.95) is steal to say how much you would pay in other places in the town. Amazing selection of GF and Vegan products beautifully presented, very clean and felt very safe. Well done Mammas Doreens keep up the good work we will be back soon!!

We visited recently for the afternoon tea-style brunch. We arrived and our temperature was taken at the door and we were seated. When ordering I asked if I could substitute my coffee/tea for a juice as I don’t drink hot drinks (strange, I know ‍♀️) and was disappointed there was a surcharge to swap even though the price of the juice was either the same or less than the hot drinks on offer. Anyway, food arrived and it was delicious. Only criticism was the eggs were a little on the soft side for me. If we go again I would ask for them to be well done. Apart from that, all was good and it was very filling. Make sure you go with an employ stomach!

Amazing Prosecco Afternoon Tea!I took my mum here for Mother’s Day slightly delayed due to COVID19 but none the less we loved it! We have the best experience and the food was delicious!On the afternoon tea you got a warm selection of bites, cold sandwiches and numerous different types of cakes and of course scones! It was unlimited tea/coffee and we also ordered cocktails to try which were also lovely. My mum really enjoyed it and I know it will be a memorable experience for her as she keeps telling everyone where we have been!Thanks again the service was incredible, it was also lovely to meet the owner too. A really warm welcome from all of the staff and very attentive service. Had the breakfast served afternoon tea style and everything was so delicious - the whole experience was a real treat and our children loved it. The decoration of the place is fun and different.

We were booking into our hotel when we were saying we would like to have an afternoon tea while we were in Harrogate and receptionist suggested here as cakes etc is amazing,really handy that we could book a time as well and didn’t need to queue up,we did have a bit of a wait after ordering but when it came everything was really fresh and as you can see fresh m the photo there was plenty of choice,in fact we ended up getting some boxed up and ate it later. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough and staff were great.

Had afternoon tea with mum and sister and what an amazing treat. The food was beautiful and we savoured every mouthful. The cakes were to die for. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and were able to adapt to our requests.

We called in this tea room for a cuppa and a cake as it was not as busy as a certain other one in Harrogate, and we didn't fancy waiting in a queue for an hour. What a brilliant idea it was too.The tea was proper Yorkshire and the Danish pastries with fruit we had were delicious and with no queuing required.Having said that we were lucky to get in and they do recommend you book a table.

Had afternoon tea here with my Mrs and boy what an enjoyable afternoon the food and cakes were amazing staff couldn’t do enough even gave us a doggy bag to take our left overs away. Mama Doreens has always been perfection and after my most recent visit for my birthday last weekend I can confirm they still are. The food was delicious as always, the team are still so friendly and welcoming and their safety measures were incredibly reassuring. The team wore visors so their smiles were still visible and kept their distance and the tables were very well spaced out. I felt totally safe whilst still having a wonderful experience.

Myself and a friend had booked for an afternoon tea, we were greeted with a smile n seated promptly, we ordered the afternoon tea each, it arrived and Wow what a spectacle, we had a 2 hour slot and we certainly needed it to eat every beautiful scrap of food that was put before us, it was absolutely delicious and worth every penny, the atmosphere was great too, staff very attentive.

As professional ladies who lunch we were excited to finally meet up after the last few months lockdown.This place did not disappoint. It is the perfect place for a cream tea. The cream tea that arrived to our table quite literally blew us away. It had everything that you could imagine and more. The food was beautiful and every mouthful was enjoyed.I really liked the ambient atmosphere, the background music, the mismatched teapot and teacups (I really liked how quirky this was) and the overall experience.The only negative, although this will not stop me visiting again, was that the toilets blower was the only way to dry your hands. During this horrible covid time I would have hoped that disposable hand towels were provided and an abundance of hand soap but to be fair I just chose to shake my hands instead.This place is a must for any cream tea fanatic. Its great value for money and definitely worth a second or maybe third visit.

I visited recently with my parents for afternoon tea to celebrate a special occasion.When making the booking i requested 1 vegan afternoon tea and 2 pescatarian afternoon teas.The two meat free options for my parents were fantastic, they enjoyed it very much. They had plenty of food, sandwiches, quiches, scones and cakes and the presentation was beautiful. However i was really surprised and disappointed with the vegan afternoon tea option. For a place that specializes in afternoon tea i expected more effort to have been. The vegan option consisted of sandwiches containing rocket and tomato, rocket and cucumber, rocket and red pepper. There was one vegan cupcake (which they sell anyways and I've had before, they are very tasty!), and one cup of mixed berries.The vegan option literally contained half the amount of the regular option. With the range of vegan options available now, and the fact that they make lovely vegan cupcakes i can't believe how poor the afternoon tea was. To top it all off there was an additional cost for choosing the vegan afternoon tea which is disgraceful. As it consisted of the plainest sandwiches, a cup of fruit and a cupcake, to charge more than the regular teas which are loaded with food is shameful. I could understand if more ingredients had to sourced to pay for vegan scones/quiches etc but not for salad and fruit.I basically had to pay more for literally half the amount. We had been looking forward to visiting the new premises for a long time but this really put a dampner on the whole experience.I would not order afternoon tea there again until more effort can be made for for the vegan option or the price to be discounted not increased!I hope this issue can be addressed in the future as its such a shame, i expected a place like this to really go all out and make an effort with the options they have available.Disappointing.

Came for afternoon tea to celebrate my 22nd birthday with my mum and had the most amazing time. The decor is beautiful, the staff were really attentive and friendly, and the food was fabulous. They even gave me a lovely cupcake for my birthday, which was a really nice touch! Easily the best afternoon tea in Harrogate and can’t wait to return!

Visited whilst on a break in Harrogate. Fabulous ambience, coffee lovely and hot, cakes scrummy, but most importantly their Covid protocols are spot on. You can feel confident that all staff have been trained. We watched while they thoroughly sanitised every table and chair that had been vacated. They all wore visors, and we're fully compliant with the new rules. Thank you for a stress free visit.

First time back to Mama Doreen’s since the pandemic and the move of location! What a beautiful space and lots of room for social distancing. Staff and service excellent as always and so friendly! We had afternoon tea which again, incredible as always Still my favourite afternoon tea location ever!Thank you to all the staff!

We ordered a weekend afternoon tea for home delivery and were delighted with it.Lots of variety and a nice mix of sweet & savoury treats. Everything was well presented and packed.Overall it was good value for the quality and quantity and our order was efficiently handled and delivered. We’d be very happy to order another one!

O Típico Chá da Tarde Inglês! O lugar perfeito para tomar o típico chá da tarde Inglês! O lugar é belíssimo, super bem decorado e organizado. O serviço é excelente e a comida deliciosa, definitivamente o melhor chá da tarde que eu já tomei em todo Reino Unido. Recomendo!
