Malee Thai Restaurant in South Somerset

We had a really lovely meal here. The pad Thai and Green Curry were sensational. Would highly recommend.

We have been going to Malee Thai since they opened years ago and whilst their new restaurant is smaller it’s all about the food. Having spent lots of time in Thailand we know good Thai food and the Thai staff cook exceptionally tasty food. If you’re after a delicious night out it’s well recommended.

The food is authentic Thai food and sumptuous. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The new premises are smaller and less ambient than their previous restaurant and that is the only let down for me - but I still go regularly and also have take always because the food is excellent.

Great service very welcoming people. Been going here for years. Always a pleasure to have the Pad Thai.

While looking at the menu I spotted a mixed seafood dish that was available either "hot" or "medium". I asked how hot "hot" is and got the reply "medium hot". That sounded about right so I ordered it. It was the perfect temperature for me and absolutely delicious. If I visit Yeovil ahgain I will certainly go back to the Malee Thai Restaurant.

Solo visit whilst in the area on business, looks a bit like a cafe with the tablecloths (reminiscent of restaurants visited in Thailand) but the food and service were excellent. Will be back when next in the area.

Malee Thai has reopened on Middle Street (in take away alley) and is now what could be classed as a hidden gem.

One of the best evenings ever had. Great service matched with excellent food. Keep on with what you are doing. I see you are moving to the corner. Maybe because you need more space. I will be coming back as soon as you reopen.

Enjoyed a great family meal here with 4 adults and 4 children (9-14yrs) Excellent service and deliciously tasty dishes. Highly recommended. Next to bowling alley and cinema so good location too. Will definitely return when in Yeovil.

Have been here a number of times with friends but most recently with my partner. We didn't make a reservation but they were still very accommodating. We both had the pad Thai which was delicious. Service is usually very quick.

Visited here Friday evening, hadnt booked but we got a table the service was very quick and the staff very friendly. Food was delicious and would definately return, the only negative comment is that I had to help myself to napkins from another table.

La comida aquí es realmente muy bueno y auténtico. El servicio era perfecto - hemos comido tantos lugares donde estaban constantemente tener que pare a camareros extra para bebidas o comida, y afortunadamente el servicio era impecable y siempre tenía los vasos llenos.

El servicio era amable y eficiente. La variedad de comida en el menú era genial - como vegetariano, había mucha variedad. Los precios eran un poco más de lo habitual, pero tenía relación calidad-precio y el ambiente en el restaurante era relajado y agradable. Given the quite sporty pricing at this establishment, I came away having expected more. The service, food and facilities were okay rather than special I felt. Portion sizes were noticeably controlled. Deserts were bought-in freezer items. Our starters were delivered and left without cutlery in place (and no, they weren't hand-eaten items). Overall then, just an underwhelming experience for me.

Visiting Yeovil for the day, I went to the restaurant for Sunday lunch with my daughter, having found details on the Internet the previous evening. The serving staff were extremely polite, the front of house restaurant & toilets very clean, the food good. We had the set, three course lunch, which was tasty & good value for money.

This was one of many visits. We always find welcoming staff, a lovely quiet atmosphere and great food which reminds us of our Thailand visit. We use this for special occasions and they also do a lovely good value lunch menu.

I love Thai food and so stopped by while working in the area on business. The staff were friendly although not overly smiley. The food was promptly served and was very good. I have had better Thai food but I've also had much worse.All in all a solid 4 stars

I came here on a Saturday Night, for Date Night with my other half which was also a Birthday Celebration. On arrival they looked confused on why we were there although we had booked a table, when we were shown our table there was hair all over the table cloth, the Table wobbled and the Chairs had holes in the cushion exposing the Foam. When our drinks order arrived the Cola was flat and the glass was filled with Ice more then anything. Our starter arrived Hot and tasted as though it had been through the Microwave, Once the main arrived it was cold, we were in and out of this restaurant in the space of an hour, never have I been to a Thai or Chinese Restaurant where I am only in the Restaurant for an hour.I will not be returning to this establishment, it was the worse Meal I have had with tasteless food.I would not recommend this place to anyone and would tell everyone to stay away and avoid. Such a Disappointment.

I've been here a few times after a schlep to the cinema, and it's been delightful on both occasions. The service is understated and polite, and the food is great. Would highly recommend.

Popped in for some supper after the cinema. Although busy they fitted us in. There is a nice ambiance here and the food is excellent and reasonable and came very quickly. Nice wine list and our server this time was pleasant. Having visited before, some of the staff there really do need to learn to smile a little - can be off putting.

Ordered takeaway from here a number of times and have not been disappointed. Highly recommended. Quick order turnaround time. I recommend the pad Thai noodles....yummy! (Not quite the same as from a street vendor in khao San road though)

Very quick lunch and if you choose the set menu it is unbelievable value for money. Delicious and simple food. Nothing over the top. Great! The excellent rating I am giving for Value and Food is based on the set menu for lunch.

I've eaten here on many occasions and I've never been disappointed, great service and great food, the restaurant is very cosy, highly recommended Thai food.

Located in town centre and opposite Premier Inn the Malee Thai Restaurant is a small but welcoming establishment.We called in to book a table for the following night and the place was full. The next night it was equally full so we were very glad we were able to get a table. The staff are very friendly and most helpful. The food needs just one word - excellent. My wife and I had a starter followed by a main which we couldn't fault. The price was reasonable.No wonder it is so popular

Had a fantastic meal here. Had the mixed starter, consisting of prawn toast, satay chicken, spring rolls and battered king prawns. All beautifully crispy and warm. For main, the beef and mushrooms in oyster sauce was great, accompanied by egg fried noodles. My colleague had the red duck curry, which also comes highly recommended!

My wife, son and I visited last night.There is plenty of parking nearby.The resteraunt itself is by a fairly busy road but set up on a terrace amongst a few others.We went for the set menu meal as we frankly didn't know what to order.A brilliant idea. Five courses for 25 quid.The staff were lovely, attentive but not too much in your face.The decor was pleasant and had a nice relaxing vibe.The food itself is superb. The mixed starter selection was a delicious treat, with two each of five items.Followed by a selection of mains, rice and noodles. All of it superb.The sweet course was a nice surprise with lots of choice and the Jasmin tea refreshing.I will certainly be going again.

Took the wife here tonight to apologise for being impetuous....long story....We arrived and were seated.... Chose the set meal for two with Tom yam gai...her ladyships favourite.... SuperbAll aspects of the meal were superbWe would highly recommend the establishment

For those that know Yeovil, it is not a town you associate with charm (or anything nice to be honest). This place bucks the trend. Clearly, the chef knows what they are doing and how to combine flavours. We really enjoyed the meal. Service was also good.

Down in Yeovil visiting family and wanted Thai food, found this lovely little restaurant. Well worth a visit. Excellent service, beautiful layout and wonderful food

Have visited Thailand several times and this is the most authentic Thai I've tasted in the South West, if not all of England. Gorgeous Pad Thai, perfect soups that have just the right level of spice. Steamed banana in coconut milk for dessert is ultimate comfort food.

Wasn't impressed having been to Cyprus recently trying Asian food.Starter 1* and main 2/3*Partners was a 2 and 3* star at best.Shame.

All the food was fantastic and very tasty, large portions too! The service was good and they were very attentive. It's not always easy to cater for 9 people but they were not phase. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

South Western Terrace is a small street which is basically a line of 3-4 restaurants located close to the cinema complex.It was a week day evening and most tables were taken which is a good sign. The service was attentive, the food was good and cost 60 quid for two. We would go again.

Visited early evg .shown to their back room that is pretty grubby. Food was of a very poor quality. Best thing was the rice. I have visited Thailand at least 30 times and this food served here is not a true reflection of the Thai food. Big expensive disappointment.

Went before a visit to the cinema and really enjoyed our visit. Service was prompt and polite. The choice on the menu was extensive, and the food came quickly, which was useful as we were a bit pushed for time. Recommended.

We went to Malee Thai today for our first ever Thai meal after positive reviews on tripadvisor but were left unimpressed by the experience and will not be returning. The food on the three course menu was average at best and most dissapointing was the attitude and manner of the staff who didn't answer our queries about the menu clearly (my wife is vegetarian) then at the end of the meal came and slammed the bill on the table and announced that they were now shut and we had to leave straight away. Would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you like a warm welcome and flavoursome food.

In Yeovil for weekend and had booked Malee having read the reviews on here. We were not disappointed - excellent, friendly service, fresh, tasty food and very good value. Loved the steamed banana in coconut milk!

Currently on Yeovil on business I have visited three times now and on every occasion have received a warm welcome and excellent food. Probably not the cheapest restaurant in town for dinner but worth it. Also good reasonable lunch menu (c£10). It's my favourite restaurant in Yeovil

This is a good meal, in a nice setting, with unobtrusive service - it's average, and sometimes average will do nicely. The prices are what you would expect for this standard and I'm not sure what else Yeovil has to offer to better it...

Had another good meal here. Service prompt and unobtrusive. Food as good you can get for Thai food within 40 miles of here. We have tried to find better ans failed. Prices are reasonable

We have been twice now for lunch. Really nice and cosy, nice relaxed atmosphere . Not crowded , which was nice. Very clean. Lunch offer was 3 course for £10.45. Service was friendly and reasonably quick.Food was good. Nothing to dislike.

We pre-ordered the set menu at £25.70. The basket of starters, choice of soup and mains were delicious...but the dessert (ginger pudding) was AMAZING! Even those in my party that didn't like ginger loved their taster of my dessert.This is small, traditional restaurant with understated, courteous service. This was my first time here and I most certainly recommend it.

As I walked past, the restaurant was busy which is usually a good sign, so I took my wife in for a meal. The restaurant itself is tired and cramped. The food was extremely disappointing we had starters and mains. Some of the starters seemed to have been cooked to within an inch of their existence and the mains tasted as if the paste could have been taken straight from a jar. We had the Pad Thai which is a favourite of ours but even this just tasted as if they had shoved a schezuen sauce on it and was the most disappointing part of the whole meal. We have eaten in some lovely Thai restaurants which are packed full of flavour and at half the price. With dishes at this restaurant averaging between £10-£15 they are not producing the flavoursome dishes that you would expect. It may be possible that its popularity is solely down to the lack of competition in the area, but I felt like I was missing the point when I was there and everyone else knew something I didn’t.

Not bad Thai food. I would prefer spicier Tom Yum soup, but YMMV!

Last evening thank you to my sister and partner ~ Malee Thai in Yeovil was recommended by another relative. very glad it was! We selected the set menu for £27.50 per head plus a bottle of their Australian house red. The food was well presented, piping hot and variations offered to avoid my tomato allergy; The two young ladies front of house could not have been more charming and we enjoyed a relaxed meal during which they were attentive but not intrusive. Extremely good value for money and a must return again to note in the diary. No tip expected or service charge added and they were delighted when I asked them to reset the card machine to include a small gratuity!

Popped in earlier today for lunch. It was very busy but I was greeted and shown to a table then given the lunchtime menu. Malee offers a three course set lunch for £10.45. I decided to go with this and was not disappointed. A great selection of traditional starters and mains with a choice of banana fritter or ice cream for desert.The service was fast efficient but not over fussy like I often find in similar restaurants. The food was very well presented and a good portion.I cannot find fault at all with this delightful little restaurant and would happily recommend it.

They have an amazing lunchtime deal me and my partner come here often it's our favourite place to eat in Yeovil, the staff are lovely and the food is not like anything I have ever tasted!

The food is lovely, been many times and never had a bad meal. Service is very friendly, and the atmosphere is good. We go as a treat as it is quite pricey compared to another Thai we've been to in the South West. The lunch deal is good value though, good portions and choice.The fishcakes are especially good and very close to what I've had previously in Thailand.

We haven't been here for a while and we're looking forward to our meal. We enjoyed it, but not as good as previous ones. The squid was a little overdone so on the chewy side. The starters were OK as was the valcano chicken. The restaurant was quiet so dissapionted the quality wasn't as good as it has been. Having said that I'm sure we will return in the future.

Thai is one of our favourite foods but this restaurant did not excite. It proved an expensive meal comparing with a similar meal taken in London where the standard of the food was so much better. A very real disappointment!

We managed to get a table for 2 on a Saturday evening. This place is really nice. The staff are really welcoming and make you feel at home. We had a starter & main, all very freshly cooked and extremely tasty. We didn't get interrupted while eating either which was a refreshing change. I don't like being asked if everything's OK while I've got a mouthful of food like you you do in most restaurants. You might want to book a table if you go to avoid disappointment. Highly recommended.

Restaurant was quaint and friendly, 80% of starters were deep fried which removes the authenticity of Thai food. Mains were ok, had duck in red curry, meat seemed a bit chewy. All in all just average Thai....

This is the second time we have tried the Malee Thai, and unfortunately on both occasions the food simply wasn't good enough. The Tom Yam Goong was particularly disappointing and the stir fried chicken with fresh basil had very little basil in it. Out of the dishes we had only the Pad Thai was up to standard. If you are after an anglicised Thai meal then the Malee Thai will tick the box for you. If you are after something more authentic then I'd suggest you give it a miss.

If you like a small well run friendly Thai restaurant this is the place. The food was wonderful as was the service. Nice an small and cosy. All around one of the nicer experiences in Yeovil night time food restaurants.

Staying in Yeovil has obviously some upsides - one is the Viceroy and the other is the Malee Thai, just around the corner. For the group diner, we went to the Malee Thai and were at the entrance welcomed by a very friendly waiter who brought us to our table - less noble as in the Viceroy but still nicely laid however without somebody taking care of our coats. The drinks quickly arrived and, once we made up our minds, the food was at the table soon after. The menu selection is however a little on the standard side but still very good. Additionally the food is flawlessly prepared - too smooth almost, including some glitches in the menu. The menu implies that the red curry is hotter than the green curry. Having been to Thailand on various occasions and never experiencing red curry hotter than green I warned my colleague - and was correct. Generally, and as I said, the food is nice / almost very good but it misses a little to be really good. I'd say the Nitaya's in Munich would have been in that category but it is no more. Anyways, this is still a pretty good Thai restaurant and worth a visit. The service is flawless and very attentive (at least it was when we were there)

We go to this restaurant after a film and have always been happy with the meal we had. The staff welcome you and the restaurant feels warm and cosy in winter! The tom yang hung is amazing and all the dishes are prepared in good time but taste fresh and are very good. The wine is a nice quality for house white and the atmosphere is very Thai! We would recommend a visit to this restaurant which we have never found fault with yet. Well done and we look forward to visiting again soon.
