Despite any negative reviews our stay was superb! Personally I've never felt so genuinely welcome and as a family, staff made us feel extremely welcome; nothing was too much and service was always considerate and personal. The rooms were mega comfortable, breakfast had ample choice, the bar had some fantastic choices, dinner was superb, there's ample parking and the area where your rooms are were quiet and private! Without a doubt if we were in the area again, this is where we would stay and we would happily recommend 🙂 Thank you 🙏🏽

Really good food, some places you get a huge portion, some places you get quality, I felt this was one of the rare times you get both. Lovely ambience, soon got busy as the evening went on. Staff friendly and pleasant. I had the rack of ribs and it was delicious, taste good but not sickly like some places do. Only downside to the whole place was no designated disabled parking, or if there was not clearly marked enough to find. Will definitely go again. Very enjoyable.

Visiting our Son in Yeovil and decided to stay here instead of the premier inn. The rooms were basic but had everything you need for a night's stay. There was a bit of noise from neighbours closing doors but overall, for 80 quid it was a brilliant choice for us and only 5 mins from our lad. The place moved up a level when we popped back for the Sunday roast. It was packed but the friendly staff cleared a finished table quickly for us and we ordered the roast beef and the roast pork. It was a superb roast and the quality and quantity of food was staggering. My Son couldn't finish his roast as it was huge. Highly recommended and we will be booking again for our next visit.

Reviewed before and the standards are just as high. They don’t open until midday though. We got there at 10 past 12 and within half an hour the place was packed Staff are very friendly and there is adequate staff levels. Despite being so busy our meals were produced quickly. The place is very clean and tidy and a great atmosphere. Chicken Ham and Leek pie with dauphinois potatoes and vegetables. Great size and very tasty. The menu is the largest I have ever seen, so there is something for everyone. Toilet very clean air blower and paper hand towels. All the signs of going that ‘bit further’ with everything. Good car park. Nice location in village. All adds up to less stress.

Good local Inn with plenty of rooms. Friendly staff. Breakfast is well taken care of with freshly baked croissants and toasts. Dinner knows an extensive menu with plenty of choice and is good. I never felt or heard any complaint from me or any collegue I was there with and we visit regularly. No table service. The rooms have reasonable WiFi, especially for UK standards. The beds are fine, never had a bad sleep. Showerwise the rooms could be better, the water pressure in some cabins is rather low, avoid the higher numbers if possible.

Lovely meal and friendly staff. However, it was very strange to be asked as the waitress gave us our meal if we would wanted to order desserts. How would you know if you have room to fit a dessert in when you hadn't started eating your main? But other than that food was delicious and filling so no room for dessert.

We visit here quite often and popped in today for Sunday lunch. I ordered the small at £9.99 and hubby had the medium at £12.99. We each paid an extra 75p for a Yorkshire pudding. Mine came with a small slice of turkey, 2 roasties, a teaspoonful of cabbage, a few carrot sticks and a tablespoon of cauliflower cheese. Hubby’s was the same but twice as much. Extras could be ordered: roast potatoes £3.99, cauliflower cheese £3.99, stuffing 75p. When the waitress came to check if all was ok, we asked her if my small amount of turkey was normal; she said yes. We won’t be returning for Sunday lunch.

I have been visiting this pub for many years and the food was always amazing and reasonably priced. However since the new landlord has taken over the quality and quantity of food has lowered. The portion sizes have been reduced, no dipping bowl provided as I was having spare ribs. My Mum's vegetables were cold and the cottage pie was mainly potato. A great shame.

Food always great, home cooked with care and love even just the sandwiches/baguettes and lighter bites are brilliant portions and we'll work the value for money. This is a firm favourite from lunch to dinner and have been countless times and always an easy decision if wanting good quality food and a old pub atmosphere as opposed to a restaurant. Suitable for couples, friends and families, larger tables are available also for larger groups.

I had the Brie to start tasteless and obviously from freezer to fryer but I can relate to that. We both had steak one sirloin one rump. Sirloin was ok. The rump I sent back as I asked for well done, put my knife in and blood spurted out. Came back steak had been heated while rest of plate was kept under hot lights. Within a minute I was asked if it was better I replied I've only just got it back. The steak was still too bloody for my taste but I ate as much as I could. I informed the waitress of this her reply was oh sorry. Finishing our very flat pints and talking the waitress returned to clean the table next to us and sprayed me with cleaning fluid! I looked at her she said I tried not to get you. Will not be returning attitude of staff leaves at lot to be desired, no apology no intention of trying to make anything good. They take your money up front or you can leave your card behind the bar. Terrible experience

Reading the menu online it looked like a traditional pub grub. Not too fancy, but I imagined cooked very well. How wrong was I. We started with deep fried Somerset Brie and loaded potato skins. Now they mention it’s Somerset Brie, but don’t mention where it comes from in Somerset. I suspect the reason for this is that the plastic wrapping didn’t say, when opening the freezer and reaching for this tasteless lump os cheese. The bacon and mushroom loaded skins were just as bad. Frozen, of course. But these weren’t the crisp thin potato skins I expected.. these were like a large skin on chip with greasy undercook bacon and a couple of fried in oil sliced mushrooms. The bread role was also completely tasteless and I suspect again is either frozen or part baked. I had the steak and mushroom pie. The filling to be fair had some large bits of meat and no fat or grizzle. However the constancy was that of a fray bentos pie, strangle gelatinous. The puff pastry topping, also individually frozen and cooked to order. Was tasteless and anaemic in colour. The potato Dauphinoise was overcooked, dry and covered in cheese. The sliced potatoes had turned to mush. The veg looked very sorry for its self and looked like and tasted like it had been reheated or cooked a while back. Which was a shame as they look fresh not frozen. The saffron sauce, with prawns and salmon wasn’t much better. It had a very strong bright yellow colour and had maybe six frozen shrimps thrown in and just put over the fish and I sort of stuck there. It had a manufactured taste and no saffron to be found. This had to be scraped off and pile to the side as it’s taste overpowered the salmon. It wasn’t a nice meal, poor ingredients and too many frozen elements. I wouldn’t recommend.

Would certainly recommend for the Sunday roast dinner . Although it is not a carvery the size of the portions were amazingly generous and almost too much to manage to eat all of it !!! Choice of 3 meats but 1 of each if you wish . The vegetable portions were generous too and tasted freshly cooked and not dry like you would get when sat under heat lamps at a carvery - which is what made this sunday dinner more tasty . Again would certainly recommend and great value with plentiful portions and fresh tasting vegetables.

I dont often write on tripadvisor but i would like to express my opinion as it is a free country. im a middle aged lady and my husband is around the same age we do love travelling around somerset and eating out.we have visited some good and bad hospitality establishments over the years. But me and my partner were quite taken back by the half moon in mudford. we felt unwelcome at times and me and my partner are very chatty people but we felt staff and management were unpleasent. also reading a lot of other reviews going back to 2019 it doesn't seem we are the only ones with concerns about rude staff and management. anyway when we arrived we said hello to the people behind the bar and got completely ignored . we said hello a second time and a faint hi was replied in a sarcastic manner. we ordered drinks and sat in a very squashed enviroment with an older gentleman (owner) looking me up and down in quite an unpleasent eye rolling way. we eventually ordered food my husband had meat and asked it to be well done but when it arrived at the table it was like it was still alive. gosh my hubby and me have severe intolerances and need our food cooked well as we requested to the lady who took our food order. but this was overlooked and ignored by rude staff. we requested the meat to be cooked well and this was not what we asked for we were grunted at and told if we were not satisfied to go elsewhere. not really a friendly professional buisness at all. after our main meals being totally messed up we decided to have simple desserts we didnt think anything could go wrong we informed the lady again we had severe nut allergies. and we were served nuts minutes afterwards by the same person we informed. gosh my partner said lets just pay and go but the lady tried charging us for 4 meals even though it was just 2 of us . not a reccomended establishment at all. very rude staff and manager me and my partner were shocked beyond belief. there was a family sat next to us with a very young child around 4 or5 and the staff were calling the child a noisy little brat anybody with children they dislike kids intensely.

It's a shame really. The food here is great and good value. I've eaten here on 3 seperate occasions recently and never left hungry or unhappy with the food. Unfortunately, the staff just seem miserable. Not once have we been made to feel welcome, they rarely seem to smile or strike conversation. Perhaps the business takes for granted it's good reputation on food in the knowledge that people will come back. For us however, the service is as important as the food and value for money, and since we have received this level service on 3 occasions we are reluctant to return. Such a shame.

We dropped in here for an evening meal and overnight stay on our way to Exeter. We were blown away with how popular it was, the great menu choice, the prices which are about 25% less than where we live in Sussex/Kent. Main meals were large, tasty and perfectly cooked. We shared a dessert as we were so full - again this - the Eton Mess was excellent. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We both slept so well that we in fact over slept! Both of us need soft beds or we wake up in pain - so these must have been soft as had no aches the next day. We had not pre-booked the continental breakfast - but it looked rather good with yoghurts, cereals and prunes, peaches, etc in juice.

So sad to write this after eating here many times before but Sunday Lunch was the worst I have ever had. Bland tasteless meat, tasteless glutinous gravy, frozen Yorkshire puddings and veg reheated which tasted .like they were cooked yesterday. It is cheap but I’d rather pay more and have an enjoyable meal. We were all agreed. It didn’t help that we had to queue outside in the rain till the pub opened at 12.00.

We had a really lovely meal here. The pad Thai and Green Curry were sensational. Would highly recommend.
