Mak's in York

Delivery was very quick, friendly driver. However food was awful, sweet and sour was not sweet, not sure what it was, chicken chow mien was not good at all, dry bland and chicken was fatty. We ordered crispy fried noodles these were not, they were chicken chow mien without the chicken. Won't be ordering again.

Ordered £55 worth of food. Chicken chow mien had hardly any chicken and was tiny bits of chicken mainly fat to. Another side fish of noodles and hardly any veg in and clumps of onion. Sweet and sour was rank no taste. Waste of money won't be using again.

Went for a takeaway after last using it 8 years ago. It was always lovely but not sure what has happened but I have never had a worse special curry and rice. Special it certainly wasn't. The owners need to get a grip. Won't be back.

This is second time i ordered takeaway , the chips were REALLY SALTY but when i say salty is like 2 spoons of salt dropped on chips , the combo box with ribs/ wings/ chicken chips and curry sauce was disgusting , full of salt and only 2 ribs , 2 wings and lost of chips full of salt again , ordered chow mean king prawn with just onion and noodles? Really ? Where are the vegetables you’re advertising on the dish name ? Feel sorry for me spending £55 for nothing , do not order again guys if you want to drink 2 l water afterwards and bad stomach !

Just had a delivery. Delicious. On-time....early in fact! Piping hot, fresh and everything you'd want from a takeaway. Thankyou! We have been trying to get a Chinese delivery for months of this quality so are delighted!

Difficult to know what to say really. Once bitten twice shy? Mak's is fairly well known as not the best food, but it delivered during lockdown so I started using it. The number of times the people on the phone were downright rude makes me question my own sanity for ever using them again. I've started using other takeaways these days instead of Mak's. I've had slightly better quality at a slightly better price. And no one's been rude on the phone to me yet! 😂

Ordered our food over the phone, for collection, the lady told me the price, but never told me it was cash only. I collected my order and asked if I could have prawn crackers, she said how much it was, and said cash only. She dumped my order on the counter and answered the phone, she hadn't even taken the money off me. No manners use, very rude. Food was good but won't be going back.

Ordered a takeawy 26 feb 2023 delivered short , food horrendous rang to complain and was hung up on ! Tried ringing again they wouldn’t answer , will not be using again 👎

Our usual Chinese was closed so we ordered from here. Delivery time was exactly when stated. The sweet and sour sauce was gloop 🤮 clearly pre made and stored for days/weeks. The chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice all tasted exactly the same. And the prawn crackers were rubbery. AVOID

Ordered from here a few times before and food was always okay, however usually late. Ordered today and the order didn’t turn up, rang the place and they said I was lying and the delivery driver delivered the food to this address, hung up the phone. Appalling customer service, would avoid at all costs.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Both our takeaway meals were covered in a tasteless brown gloop ?? There was plenty of meat; the chicken and fillet steak but both tasted the same. The fried rice was ok though. The only positive was that the food arrived hot and on time.

We really wanted a Thai takeaway on New Year's Day, but all the well rated Thai (and Chinese) takeaways all seemed to be closed to deliveries. So we took a chance on Mak's despite some of the reviews being quite negative. Well, the spring rolls were very nice and the hot and sour soup and main main dishes (a duck dish, a prawn dish, a noodle dish and some rice) were quite nice although not outstanding. And they delivered within the time frame promised and it was still hot, and reasonably priced. So we were not disappointed.

We used to really enjoy this please 6-12 months ago… had a bad experience but have tried the occasional time over the last 3 months hoping it would revert back. It hasn’t. Really disappointing. Food poor and order never quite what we asked for. Real shame

So disappointed! Reviews looked great .. don't be fooled! .. ordered 2 mild chicken currys as children wanted It, was £19.80 , so 20p off for getting the free prawn crackers , I asked the lady do we get them or shall I order them, no , we will send them.. Great. Food came , luke warm, can only be described as what looked like dog food, the sauce was thick , like gloop. Was a strange colour 🤔, and no prawn crackers ,now I know this isn't the end of the world , but when I rang lady just said , ohh yeah kitchen forgot to do them! .. Next time will send , nope won't be a next for us , never gonna be a next time, save your money, go elsewhere , we only went as our local was too busy , crap food , crap customer service 😀

Ordered food for delivery ,food arrived cold,and prawn toast was hard,ive seen many times when ive ordered in shop drivers taking 2 to 4 orders at once

I can only comment on the takeaway service which was poor.On the positive side delivery was swift but we did order at 5pm as they opened & Covid 19 guidelines followed. The food was awful, we ordered the set meal for 2, the food was tepid when it arrived & I would say it was not freshly cooked but warmed up.Prawn crackers were ok & the sweet & sour passably. However everything else was dreadful, the prawn toast had to be old, I cannot describe how bad the special fried rice was & the beef in black bean sauce was a coagulated flavourless dish.I will not be using this restaurant again

Esta es nuestra primera lección de aquí. Hemos estado buscando un buen chino que cumpla durante mucho tiempo. La entrega fue mucho más rápida de lo esperado y la comida aún estaba caliente. Pedimos 3 comidas y extras que estaban muy bien. Sin duda volveremos a pedir desde aquí y esperamos probar nuevos platos. Muy impresionado, gracias.

The food from here is amazing, the food was hot and arrived much earlier than expected. The portion sizes are big so great value for money. Would recommend the crispy chicken in sweet chilli sauce, it’s amazing!

Delivery promp , hot and tasty food . Will defo order again 👍. All in all a good experience and value for money

I collected our order. The place looked derelict and didn’t look clean, there was cardboard covering the door. I was the only customer there plus two delivery drivers. They were all flapping because the online orders were in a mess. When I was given my order the man couldn’t read what was listed receipt. He was quite intimidating so I checked the list which he then removed, I paid and left. Some of the order I had paid for was missing so I rang them, eventually one of the drivers answered! He suggested that next time I would be given a ‘free’ dish to compensate but didn’t ask for my name. It is cash only and you don’t get any proof of purchase.

Me dijeron que los estaban enviando de regreso y después de 20 minutos todavía no había señal.Los devolvió y les dijeron que estaban esperando más pedidos antes de enviarlo.Luego me dijeron que un conductor vendría a recoger la comida y luego la prepararía nuevamente ya que hacía frío.El conductor apareció sin comida y se negó a tomar la comida original.Llamé de nuevo y me dijeron que había otro conductor en camino con comida fresca.Llamé de nuevo y, en lugar de reemplazar la comida, me dijeron que obtendría un reembolso Y las salsas antes de que me colgaran groseramente.El conductor apareció con un reembolso de 3. 60 para las salsas originales y ni siquiera trajo salsa.Así que, en general, terminé teniendo que comer un chino frío sin salsa.Pero al menos obtuve mi 3. 60 de vuelta. .

Un pedido grande se colocó a través de Just Eat para llevar el viernes por la noche, alrededor de las 6. 45 hs. Esperamos más de una hora y media antes de perseguir nuestro pedido. El hombre en el teléfono dijo que nos había llamado para decir que se había entregado comida, pero nos negó contestar el teléfono. Verificamos nuestros detalles y el número de teléfono fue correcto con Just Eat y el teléfono en cuestión estuvo con nosotros todo el tiempo mientras esperábamos la entrega. ¡Ellos no ofrecieron ninguna solución y abruptamente nos colgaron! ! Servicio asqueroso y totalmente poco fiable. Muy decepcionado.

All food was cold and soggy. The chiken tasted days old and was so chewy my daughter nearly choked. Sweet and sour chicken was more soup than sauce and tasteless. Absolutely away. I would avoid at any cost

This takeaway delivers consistently tasty food. It is a welcome change from the generic takeaways found elsewhere in York.

The lovely little takeaway has been here for years nice friendly staff. Food comfy. Been using the place for years it's always a port of call when I need something simple to eat.

The food is of good quality everytime in comparison to other chinese restaraunts ive had in york. The lady behind reception is professional and the previous review is rubbish. I've had rude service at other restaraunts not this one.

Absolutely terrible forgot my egg fried woman is really rude on phone the chicken was raw DO NOT USE

Was after an old school English Chinese takeaway and this looked the part! To be fair all I had was a chicken egg fried rice but it was tasty with plenty good quality meat

This is by far the worst chinese takeaway In York I've ever had. Had to wait 1 1/2 hours for delivery (20 mins late) The food was cold when it arrived. The crispy chicken in plum sauce was actually in lemon sauce. On top of this we were overcharged. We will not be ordering from here again, very dissapointing indeed.

We usually frequent this Chinese most Saturday nights and it’s amazing, not too expensive and good quality food every single time, no matter what dish we have :)

Highly recommend. Fabulous food. Massive portions. Plenty of meat. Massive menu. Option to order online and pay by card.

This restaurant serves delicious takeaway chinese food for a very good price. Ate three times here in fifteen days!

Whilst staying in York we decided to order in as we were worn out with sightseeing. We ordered a variety of dishes.....oyster sauce special, sweet & sour Cantonese style chicken, crispy chicken with lemon sauce....the food arrived earlier than promised, the portions of chips and fried rice, extra sauces etc., were plentiful, plus a free bag of prawn crackers. The food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed.
