Just dropped in to have a drink - 2 x cokes, milkshake and a thimble full of ice cream came in at over £17. Probably par for the course these days but felt overpriced to be honest. Cokes were just run of the mill mixer stuff (a bit flat), milkshake and ice cream Ok.

Firstly, just shy of £30 for 1 coke, 1 small slushie, fish and chips and a panini. Terrible value for money. Now let’s get onto the main point, two days of extreme vomiting and diarrhoea. Terrible stomach cramps to the point my husband nearly called an ambulance. The worse food poisoning I have ever ever experienced!!! Should have guessed it was bad because it was the only place with no queue to get into. Will never visit again and would urge others to avoid…especially the fish which was obviously not fresh or stored appropriately.

Love going to Makcaris especially Breakfast. Today it was very disappointing, the order was not as requested and the price seemed disproportionate to similar options. To be fair I contacted the Owner, Nejmi Hassan who was very apologetic. The pricing of food needs to be addressed and made clear.

Prices are too end. Place is poorly managed with dirty tables and floors at every time of day you visit. £15 for a bit of cod? No way. Food came out in sporadic fashion. Last dish 20 minutes after the first! Worst bit, my wife’s panini was completely mouldy on one side. Already mostly eaten when noticed. Staffs reaction to being told of this ….. ‘ohhhh’. No sorry. No one coming to rectify with us. They could not care less. They had our money. Why would they care? Please please don’t put money in these crooks pockets. Go elsewhere where the prices are reasonsbsle and basic food hygiene rules are adhered to. Shame on you

The owners of this Cafe, and the one at the bandstand, have lost the plot when it comes to pricing. My wife has been coming here for the past 60:years and Makvaris has always been a place we visit two or three times each year …. but I would question whether we will continue to do so …. perhaps for a coffee and maybe an ice cream …. but how can you charge those crazy prices when alternatives are only yards away and far more reasonable. Their only saving grace was a 2-4-1 breakfast offer £10 for a pancake or a waffle!! Fish and Chips require a mortgage!!! ….you have got it-all wrong guys and, unfortunately, deserve to fail …… what a shame!!!

Stopped for a drink once arrived at Herne Bay. The huge menu distracted from this, so I ended up having a milkshake & a slice of cherry & almond cake from the counter. Both were really good. Cost around £10 so not the cheapest options, although on a day out I’m not worried about this. The young lady serving was lovely and attentive. And another came to check our shakes were okay. The only thing that bothered me was there was no uniform policy. People were just in their own clothes apparently working there.

We always visit when we’re in Herne Bay. Very nice coffee and if your timing is right, delicious still warm bread pudding. Family friendly, biker friendly (turn up in your leathers for a free coffee) and dog friendly. HOWEVER, on our visit this week the toilet was not so good. The toilet seat completely broken off, the floor was sticky and the door was very grubby. It let the place down. I hope that the owners read these reviews and get it sorted out ASAP. it’s always our go to place but there is much competition along the high street.

Called in for a BLT, coffe and and ice cream on our first trip to Herne Bay - not cheap at £21.45 but the food was nice. Ended up with only one coffee between us as they got the order wrong but most disappointing thing for us was that it was all over their reviews about being dog friendly but we were told that we definitely couldn’t enter with our dog so we ended up eating out in the cold on the not very appealing outside tables. Not for doggy people I am afraid which is a real shame - hence only 3 stars for us

I popped in for a takeaway hot chocolate, which I couldn’t see on the menu anywhere but guessed it was a pretty standard thing that a cafe would have, which they did. The server asked what size and I opted for a small. She made this using an instant machine simply pressing a button, and gave me some whipped cream and marshmallows. This cost £4.75!!?! A takeaway small hot chocolate??! I was a bit shocked and stupidly just paid it as I hadn’t known the price in advance… but now I wonder if I was charged twice by mistake?! I walked past another cafe with a menu outside 5 mins walk away and theirs were £3, more what I would expect. It was very nice don’t get me wrong, but very overpriced. Won’t be returning as I think that’s a liberty. If it was a mistake I’ll happily change my review.

My friend and I had the high tea which is great value, plenty to eat, choice of fillings and cake……however, not particularly set out very nicely, all on a large plate, tea came first so by the time we had our food it was cold, would be nice to have it at same time, so it is hot. My biggest issue was the sparrows and pigeons that came into the place, I have a fear of birds so it was really bad news for me, but I also don’t think it’s very hygienic, a pigeon was perched above a table where people were eating………there must be a way to stop them from coming in, at home I have bead curtains that deter them but still let’s the air in……must be something professional to put up at the doorways…….

I couldn’t see the price for them on the outside board, but were asked if we wanted small, medium or large, we opted for medium. Bearing in mind the most we’ve ever paid for a generous ice cream of this nature is £2.20 each, we were shocked to be asked for £9!! The ice cream was enjoyable, but for that price it would have to be. By contrast, we visited Whitstable a few days later and paid £2.80 for two ice creams that, whilst slightly smaller, were just as good.

Popped in to this cafe. I’ve put cafe not restaurant as that’s what the decor is. You order and pay before sitting down which is very Cafe like. However you pay restaurant prices to get Cafe food. The food, my Scampi was over cooked and my wife’s cod was over cooked and dry, chips were not nice. Mushy peas were very watery. Another point was lost by having stupid metal trays to eat off of. They spin about all the time which is very annoying. Staff stand about not advising any covid info re NHS logging in or ordering at counter first. On our first night in Herne Bay we had promised the children fish and chips for dinner. After walking about we finally came across this place. We went inside and ordered. For 2 adults and 2 children to have a chippy meal it came to over £40! It is nothing fancy and the food is standard. What wasn’t mentioned is that there is a chip shop attached and there are items on the menu in there that are not on the board in the actual restaurant (for example Battered Sausage). I think it is rather touristy and due to its location will attract passing trade.

It’s not the cheapest place to eat but I’ve had burgers from other cheaper restaurants in the town and the experiences were not great. We called in for a coffee on a cold, wet, miserable morning so this review is based solely on that because we did not try the food. The staff were friendly enough and the service was quick and efficient but there was nothing extra special about the coffee. It was just coffee. As I have said, we did not try the food but, looking at the menu, there seemed to be a good choice (and diets were catered for) and it seemed to be good value for money. Some people on a table near us were having food and the portion size seemed more than ample. One big bonus is that it is dog friendly.

Cheap watery beans & undercooked bacon. Thank god I didn’t have an egg it was swimming in grease (my partner did). Awful & normally I’d complain but the service is worse. As I’m writing this sat in here the lady next to me looks like she’s having beans on toast. She just found something in her breakfast think it was some nachos. They didn’t apologise or offer to replace it. I went into this place as I needed to bring in a pushchair and it looked like it was more spacious than other places on the sea front. I ordered our food which was 2 jacket potatoes and 1 diet coke which came to just under £15 which is a bit pricey. As we went to do find a seat there were only tables up the ramp by the windows available. The seats had food over them and were very old and tatty, and the tables were dirty and sticky. we were given a numbered wooden spoon, which when your food comes out the waiter shouts your spoon number. The food wasn't great, I had small stone in my salad which nearly broke my tooth. Toilets are unisex and the seat was broken. Overall I found this place overpriced and shoddy and wish I hadn't parted with £15 for a rubbish experience. you're better off buying a portion of chips and sitting on a bench than go in here.

Visited Herne Bay for the first time today and had a stroll along the seafront with the family. Upon seeing the restaurant there we decided to give it a try as there were lots of people in there and this normally means that it is an ok place. It is not an ok place. I ordered the waffles with toffee sauce and strawberries as well as a small bottle of coke. Over £10 later I received a flavourless pile of stodge with bruised strawberries. The ice cream was flavourless and had chunks of ice in it, the toffee sauce may as well have not been there for all the flavour it imparted on the dish and the waffle was soft and squishy. I couldn't even eat it all because it was so awful. My wife was equally unimpressed with what she had and I paid even more for hers. Complete rip off of a place. The only reason this place still survives is because of its prominent position on the seafront and the promise of palatable food which it fails at dismally. Please do not waste your money. We then found the high street and every other place we saw looked millions of times better. Shame we didn't see them first as we will never go back to Makcari's.

Rude staff. People jumping the queue, staff noticing but saying nothing. Maybe time to invest in table numbers instead of wooden spoons with numbers written on. Bad service. Overall a bad experience...

I have been coming here for 12 years and have always rated this place . However today I was very, very disappointed. The staff ranged from rude to clueless, (noticibly all new staff, none of the old helpful lads, and all my friends had finished their food when, having asked three times and repeating my order,my lunch finally arrived. There was no parmisan for the bolognese, no cutlery was offered and I appeared to be a nuisance by asking. All the staff were moaning how busy it was with empty tables.God help them when the airshow is on.It will be a long while before we return, very sad

I have always visited this place from when I was a child.I have now taken my own family there and always have a strawberry milkshake. It is like a pilgrimage. But just visited this weekend and while the milkshake was very good the ambience was not.We sat outside to enjoy the sun and were constantly bombarded with tacky ice cream van music from the ice cream serving area.It was far too loud so we did not stay long or order anything else. This was the Friday we returned to Herne Bay for fish and chips on Saturday but did not get them here as the music was still going strong. My advice is to order a take away and enjoy the relaxing and quiet beach.

The staff were polite and the food was cooked fresh. For a family of four (all older diners) with drinks came to under £20 which is about right for a seaside restaurant. Restaurant clean and tidy

We called in out of the rain for a cuppa and a bun. Whilst we were there the only food we saw served was drinks cakes and ice cream. They do advertise a full cooked menu. They do have a quite inviting ice cream section. There is an inside and outside seating area. We will return another time for a full meal.

A visit to Herne Bay is never complete without a visit to Makcaris for ice cream. But which flavour? Too many delicious choices!!! And Cone or Sundae? Or how about a hot chocolate with marsh mellows and lashings of cream?Treat yourself to both, like we did! Or have a meal from the extensive menu, plenty to chose from including veggie options and gluten free fish and chips; whatever you chose, you will not regret it. Great place, really helpful and friendly staff, long may it thrive.

I had a breakfast here this week with a large tea - i really enjoyed it. Very pleased that they now serve the milk in a little jug rather than pour it in the mug with the hot water and teabag which always resulted in a very weak tea. They allow dogs in and you can sit and watch the sea front.

We came here after looking around the market. It had a comfy atmosphere and good layout. There was a wide choice of dishes, from roasts to paninis, and were well worth the price. The service was efficient and the waiters were friendly. The hot chocolate was awesome! My family would gladly return if we came to Herne Bay/Beltinge again.

Visited at midday, totally packed with customer s queuing inside . Very helpful waitress trying to seat everyone. Rather noisy with waiting staff trying to find owners of orders, Wooden spoons labelled with order nos. not always visible. Food OK , I had a massive lasagne, and did not eat anything else the rest of the day! Extensive menu , will certainly recommend for a visit, not too posh

Me and my husband went in for fish and chips I had rock he had cod we both had mushy peas I had dietcoke he had a coffee that was £24 It was very nice . As it was a day out we decided to have a sweet and both had binoffee crepe each Well they was almost £15 for the 2 . When they arrived it was the size of a dinner plate much tooo much everyone looked but after fish and chips or any meal I'm sure nobody could possibly eat all that . I'm. A big women and just sat and looked at it it was ok there was not one bit of banana thou which on the menu it had sliced banana and looked smaller and it's mainly made up of squirty cream which I hate and about 5 wafers x I only eat a little bit so did my husband a total waste . But would suggest getting. One between two. Worth a visit but think about what you order or ask what the size is first

Nice warm restaurant. Simple fish and chips. Great chips. I mean really good chips. Tea was ok. Fish ok. The only issue was it was a cold day and some daft customers have yet to get the hang of closing doors behind them. I will happily eat here again.

Nice and simple hotel in a prime location. Pub is busy but the staff are still accommodating, and they drew me this excellent T Rex picture. Very impressive!

We had a voucher for carvery at £6. We had never been before. When we arrived we felt a little lost as did not know the procedure. However once we found someone to help we relaxed and went to the bar to order the carvery. We could have ordered at the table, by using a barcode, but as we are in our seventies, and not too computer savvy we went to the bar. The carvery was lovely. Beef was cooked as i like it, although as it was a new joint they brought out, it was a little fatty. The turkey was delicious. We were very happy as there were brussel sprouts and swede mix which we love. We really enjoyed the meal. The only thing we left on our plates was the beef fat. Otherwise we ate everything else on our plate.

Great location in a quiet village with garden, traditional pub food of high quality and reasonable price in an atmospheric old inn. Friendly staff. We've been a number of times over the years and it is our favourite. Only one bad experience when it was leased over a year or so ago.
