The Main Street Cafe in Mexborough deserves to be better known! There is a good basic selection of dishes on the menu, but every day different home made specials are offered. I tried the Meat and Potato Pie and it was the best I've ever tasted! This was served with a choice of potato and four vegetables. Everything is cooked to order and served by Kath, the owner who always offers a warm welcome. The total bill for five of us (3 adults and 2 children) came to just under £20! Excellent value for money and a lot better than other local eateries I've tried. Definitely well worth a try if you're in the area.

We took my Mother-in-law in to this cafe for lunch again this holiday. We didn't expect a full menu to be available between Christmas and New Year - but it was! Fab home-cooked food again, and huge platefuls too! The waitress, Kath, explained that they serve a different 'special' each day; so I couldn't have their wonderful steak pie; but the ham salad and chips I chose was delicious. The attention to detail with the salad made it really special. New carpet in the entrance since I commented on our last visit! There are several eateries in Mexborough - Main St Cafe is still my favourite!

We wouldn't usually choose a cafe in an area like this - you don't know what you'll get as a result! We visit relatives in Mexborough regularly, and have tried local eateries without much success. This 'caff' looks average at the best, often steamy inside, with flooring your feet stick to and damp salt cellars! A good cafe menu, though, at exceptionally reasonable prices. I chose steak pie and received a large plate of pie and veg; beautifully cooked, with the pie full of tender meat. Our children enjoyed smaller portions or kids menu. If you're looking for good grub at low prices, Main Street Cafe will serve you well.

I think they are in my top five of good fish and chips, and are good value for money. The fish tastes really fresh, and the chips are nice and crispI did notice one thing that I didn't like on my last visit- when the tables were cleared, the jugs of left over milk were topped up and given to new customersThis isn't very hygienic, ' the tables are small, and the milk has been coughed and sneezed over, plus droplets of saliva may have gone in it while speaking over it.Also people may have not washed their hands after using the toilet, and have been handling the jugI think all the jugs should be emptied and washed up properly after each useI realise they are trying to save money by using less milk, but this practice is not acceptable. If there is a lot of milk left in each jug, then they are putting too much in in the first place, and should put less in.The customer can always ask for a top up.I tried to find an email address, but couldn't, so perhaps they will read this, and do something about it, as it rally puts me off now that I have seen this happening. The only other point I would make is that the chairs aren't moveable , so if you're a bit bigger than average, it could be a bit of a squeeze.

2020 Covid review Opening hours seem stale now. There's hand sanitise on the way in. No wifi. You can message them by Facebook to reserve a table. They have only 4 taps of real ales but no bottle any more. Expensive for Donny, 1.80 a half or 3.60 a pint. Old review Lovely place with 10 taps and loads of bottles. Prices are expensive for Doncaster but there is plenty of choice

Another fantastic meal here. Need to come more than we do. Portion sizes are huge and the quality of food is unbelievable. Fantastic hosts and a warm family atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place for everyone to try. I had crispy sweet chili beef starter and pork chops for main. Delicious
